EXTREMA are a well-known Italian trash metal band from Milan. They released five studio albums, one live recording and a “best of” so far, and this, “The Seed Of Foolishness” marks their sixth “studio milestone”.
The first track “Between The Lines” is a real bomb! A sort of explosion in front of your wide-open eyes. The power of Tommy Massara’s guitar leads this song. “The Politics” is another powerful, rude track, containing some “Bay Area” influences and good lyrics. The third entry, “Pyre Of Fire”, is one of the most interesting tracks on this platter, a great rhythm section and catchy choruses that will conquer you.
The following track, “The Distance”, continues the musical storm that characterized EXTREMA’S trademark sound and leads to the great “Ending Prophecies”. Fantastic guitar solos, powerful riffs and an haunting acoustic finale render this fifth track a blast! “Bones”, with its stoner-mood, is an unexpected and nice surprise. Their nu-metal influences are still present and Massara’s songwriting is always at top level.
One of the highlights of “The Seed Of Foolishness” is “Again And Again”, a good and intense metal track, this leads us to “Deep Infection”. “Deep Infection” is characterized by a fantastic, heavy drumming (double-pedal at its best) and creamed-in-your-face-lyrics. Another guitar solo that will make you fly away! It is quite shocking how many breathtaking guitar solos and riffs are present on this album. Tommy Massara confirmed himself as an inspired guitar player and a dedicated songwriter.
“Sick And Tired”, with its groovy rhythm and a catchy chorus, accompanies us to the end of this release: “A Moment Of Truth”, the tenth and final track is one of the best gifts the band could make to the listeners: a southern-flavoured ballad. Delicate melodies, soft landscapes and inspired singing by Gl Perotti present this song as a little jewel (not to mention the “ghost track”, quoting a famous movie that will make the Italian fans smile). The great conclusion for a great album.
In conclusion: if you love Extrema and trash/groove metal you will love the “The Seed of Foolishness”!
