ROCK STREET JOURNAL (RSJ), IN ASSOCIATION WITH RIKSKONSERTENE – CONCERTS NORWAY, PRESENTS THE THIRD EDITION OF ’SEAGRAM’S 100 PIPERS INDIA MUSIC WEEK’ FROM 4TH TO 8TH DECEMBER, 2013.
India Music Week is the brainchild of the late Amit Saigal, founder of Rock Street Journal (RSJ), and was a response to the need to consolidate the nascent Indian Independent Music Industry through a sustainable platform that provides an interaction with the global marketplace. Festival gigs showcase emerging and established talent, while a simultaneously held annual conference creates a forum through which music professionals and industry insiders can address present issues and look at collective empowerment.
IMW SHOWCASE GIGS:
This year’s edition of 100 Pipers India Music Week (IMW) will be hosted in Mumbai in the first week of December. The showcase festival gigs are in association with The Blue Frog, Mumbai, and will host some exciting national and international acts, including big names such as Jaga Jazzist (Norway), Success (France), Supersonics (Kolkata), and Soulmate (Shillong), and many others.
The idea behind the programming is in concurrence with the core RSJ philosophy of “Discover. Publish. Showcase.” – wherein audiences will be able to experience some of the best independent music from across multiple genres.
Festival Director, Anirban Chakraborty, states: “We’re very excited about the artists coming in this year – and especially honoured by the interest many of them have shown in performing at IMW. There is no doubt that this annual festival and conference is beginning to achieve what it set out to – promoting and supporting the independent music scene in India.”
Says Simran Mulchandani, Blue Frog: “It gives us immense pleasure to serve as the platform for a great line up of independent artists from India and abroad. This association is entirely in keeping with blueFROG’s core philosophy of exposing audiences to phenomenal international and Indian talent that they may not normally have access to. This year we have been able to make each night of the festival truly special. ”
There will also be a night of showcase gigs at Café Zoe on Wednesday, Dec 4th
IMW CONFERENCE:
Rock Street Journal (RSJ), in collaboration with Rikskonsertene/Concerts Norway and in association with The True School of Music, presents the third edition of the India Music Week Conference.
This year, the two-day IMW conference focuses around the two main themes of Music & New Technology and Music & Education, with panel discussions and interactions.
There will also be small group discussions around themes like today’s live bands in India, sponsorship and touring in India and abroad, to facilitate international exchanges between music professionals from India and abroad.
Explaining the vision behind the conference, Solveig Korum, Concerts Norway, says: “In the past years, the field of music in India and in the world has changed immensely. It seems to be more important than ever to create meeting places where musicians, branch people and audiences get exposed to each other’s experiences, ideas and expressions. The IMW conference aims at preparing the ground for a new kind of music business and creating nearness and understanding among people.”
Says Ashutosh Phatak, Co-Founder, True School of Music: “I’m excited about the fact that this conference is focusing on exposing the possibilities of technology and education in music directly to the next generation of Indian musicians. Unlike most other conferences, we want to influence, help and affect change on an individual level as well as corporate. ”
The Conference, which has free entry, is open to all, and will be held on December 4 and 5 at the True School of Music, Sun Mill Compound, Lower Parel, Mumbai.
