Hey, it’s Steve Colca here from Destroyer of Light, just checking in from the road. We are on Day 24 of the Howlin’ Across America tour. As of right now, I am sitting at The Acoustic Coffeehouse here in Johnson City, TN before we head to The Hideaway to shred another night away. So far, this has been a hell of a trip and met some fantastic people along the away.
Southwest Terror Fest was great, as we got to see some of our favorite bands play like Goatsnake, Neurosis, Sunn O))), Author & Punisher, and more! On our night, we got to share the stage with Spiritual Shepard, Take Over & Destroy, and The Atlas Moth. The camaraderie from the whole fest to the bands to the staff to the fans was fantastic. Super killer night.
The running joke of our van that survived the wrath of St. Louis is a great feeling! Going back to my old stomping grounds of Chicago and Kalamazoo were killer times! Seeing old friends and families, and playing every night has kept us on top of our game. Playing with our buddies in Marching Teeth at The Grand Victory in Brooklyn was a highlight as well. If you have not heard them check it out, they are rad. Again, we ran into old friends and got to do a lot of hang time.
On this tour, we also got to share three dates with Serial Hawk from Seattle who are fantastic, and we all became instant homies. We had a great few days hanging and destroying the stage with them. Again, if you have not heard them, check them out! Another show and shout out that I would love to give is to the Halloween show in Shepardstown, WV. This town knows how to party and celebrate Halloween in style. Not only did we feel like we were part of a horror movie, but the coffee shop was blaring Sleep, Sunn O))), and Weedeater to make us feel at home. We met some rad dudes and killer bands such as Rhin.
As I couldn’t mention every city and every detail, this tour has been kicking ass. Everyone that has made this possible (promotors, bands, bars, fans, etc.), your generosity and hospitality doesn’t go unnoticed. And we will be coming back to your city again the next time. With that, the show must go on and we have about two more weeks to bring the ruckus. Tell your friends to come on out, have a beer with us, and rock out! Cheers and thanks again, y’all rule!

Like zombies moaning for brains, the critics can’t get enough of Bizarre Tales Vol. 2. Heavy Planet.net describes the band’s sound as “Blending Candlemass wail with well placed death growls, Destroyer of Light bridge the gap between traditional metal and the more extreme sub genres.” Referring to the song “Forbidden Zombi Ritual,” Doomantia.com ghoulishly exclaims, “I was seriously expecting to look off my balcony and see the dead rising from the ground ready to chew on flesh!” “This is the perfect Sludge/Stoner/Doom Metal album for Halloween,” positively states The Sludgelord.
