Formed in 1979, PERSIAN RISK was the brainchild of ex- ‘Stoned Soul Party’ guitarist Phil Campbell, who recruited vocalist Jon Deverill, second guitarist Dave Bell, bass player Nick Hughes, and drummer Razz Lemon. The next 7 years would see the band achieve relative success with a number of highly acclaimed singles to their name.
PERSIAN RISK‘s current frontman, Carl Sentance, replaced John Deverill in 1980 when he left to join Tygers Of Pantang. The band grew in popularity throughout the early 1980’s despite being dealt a blow by the departure of Phil Campbell in 1983 to join “Motorhead” – PERSIAN RISK were later handed the opportunity to support Motorhead on their 1984 Tour.
Following the release of their single “Too Different” – the band performed on E.C.T, the rock show which took over from The Tube on channel 4, and also recorded for the Tommy Vance Rock Show. However, like many NWOBHM bands at that time, they continued to face mounting frustration after years of hard work and failure to get that elusive big break! Having also undergone several line-up changes, in 1986 the band members went their separate ways …
Carl Sentance joined Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath) later that year and spent the next 2 years writing and producing songs. Taking a break from the rock music scene, Carl then joined a theater group and began singing and acting in musicals – playing many lead roles such as “Judas” in “Jesus Christ SuperStar”, “The American” in “Chess”, and “Sky” in “Guys and Dolls” among others.
In 1999 he returned to live music ; joining the band “Krokus“, and was pleased to help them climb back up the ladder – recording their album ‘Round 13’, and playing shows including Basle Football stadium in Switzerland with AC/DC, in front of 30,000 people.
For the past few years Carl has been working with Don Airey – writing, recording and performing Dons last 3 solo albums. Carl also took time out to record his own solo album ”Mind Doctor” which featured Don, along with Thunders rhythm section, Harry James and Chris Childs.
PERSIAN RISK ‘s current line up includes vocalist Carl Sentance (Don Airey, Krokus, Geezer Butler), bassist Wayne Banks (Joe Lynne Turner, Blaze Bayley, Robin Gibb) Guitar Jason Banks (Messiahs Kiss, Blaze Bayley). The band have been playing festivals across the UK and Germany recently and are set to set the scene alight again throughout 2015.
The new album – “Who Am I?” features guest appearances from keyboard wizard Don Airey ( Whitesnake, Deep Purple) Phil Campbell ( Motorhead ) Danny Willson & Tim Brown ( Martin Turners Wishbone Ash).
