Underground writer/musician Ryan Bartek has returned with his unique form of extreme journalism. Following up on his acclaimed book series that began with “The Big Shiny Prison” and “Fortress Europe”, Bartek again raises the bar with “Return To Fortress Europe”.

“Return To Fortress Europe” is a four part mini-series that chronicles the authors travels through Europe’s fringe world of underground music and alternative culture in 2012 and 2013.

This latest instalment details the authors journey to the heart of Athens, Greece armed with nothing but a voice recorder and a travel pack to cover the metal scene, as well as a journey to understand and later educate the public about the social and political unrest of this country.

In this Greek chapter, Bartek conducts face-to-face interviews with Nikos P. from the thrashy classic heavy metal outfit CONVIXION as well as fellow metal journalist Mr. Sakis Fragos.

“Return To Fortress Europe” is not just simply a work of “music writing.” Bartek assumes a role similar to many American writers that flourished in times of economic crisis. Like Kerouac or Henry Miller, he shines a spotlight on unconventional lives, and saturates his writing with social and political commentary. “Return To Fortress Europe” walks the line between journalism, autobiography, and the “great American road novel” (ironically placed in Europe).

The final chapter of “Return To Fortress Europe” will be released Fall 2015 about Italy.
