“Tempora Infernalia” is the second full studio album from American classic doom rock/metal band, DEMON EYE. It’s like a piece of retro collage art, as the band used and mixed elements from 1970’s blues rock and 1980’s progressive rock with some classic heavy metal, spiced with a doomy atmosphere.
It starts with a blues rock & roll style guitar riff in the first song, ‘End Of Days’, which reminds me of Thin Lizzy. “Tempora Infernalia” is not all built by the elements from ancient rock music – the recent past and even recent heavy metal music are also a part of this second effort by DEMON EYE. Tracks such as ‘I’ll Be Creeping’ and ‘Poison Garden’ are Black Sabbathised with a dark atmosphere, accompanied by the heavy guitar and bass riffs, along with vocalist Erik Sugg whose vocals are very similar to Ozzy’s. The song ‘See The Signs’ is just like of rebirth of thrashy Metallica from the 1980’s era, an invasion of powerful guitar riffs with great solid thrash drums. But the track ‘Sons Of Man’ is a unique song in this album indeed, where the band tried to break out of the cocoon of the past and the result is heavy, strong and more up to date sounding metal music.
Although the cover art seems to be simple and a little boring but, having said that, the “Tempora Infernalia” album is like a crazy patchwork rock and metal quilt, with DEMON EYE using some elements and themes from legends such as Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Metallica, though in a professional manner, without copying them.
