Jimmy Kay from Canada’s The Metal Voice caught up with Marky Ramone from the legendary punk band THE RAMONES at Heavy Montreal Festival in Montreal, Quebec, Canada where he performed with his band Mark Ramone’s Blitzkrieg and Andrew WK
Marky talked about why he wrote his new book ‘Punk Rock Blitzkrieg: My Life as a Ramone’, meeting a drunk John Lennon and Johnny and Joey Ramone’s turbulant relationship
On my Marky Ramone decided to write a book
It took five years. It’s my story. I was in the band 15 years, 1700 shows, in the hall of fame and Grammy award winner. I was on the Simpsons. I was in other bands besides the Ramones, I was in one of the first bands in America that started heavy metal, then I started hanging out in the punk scene in New York city. Plus the making of Rock and Roll High school the movie and working with the legendary Phil Spector. Done nine studio albums with The Ramones. It’s the most comprehensive book
On his meeting with a drunken John Lennon
I wish I could have met John Lennon under different circumstances, where I could have hung out with him and talked about music, but he was pretty enibrated.
John Lennon came down the stairs of the 282 Club New York city, which is a well know club in NewYork, which was an after hours place, with a friend Bob Gruen. And he came down the stairs, tripping over the stairs and there he was and there I was and Bob Gruen goes ‘John Lennon’, Hi John,I said uhg ugh…(John Lennon mumbling) then I left
On Johnny’s and Joey turbulant relationship
They despised each other, which I always tried to get them together to be friends but in a lot of businesses, sports, family, brothers, sisters there is just somebody that is not going to like somebody
