Jimmy Kay and Alan Dixon of Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke to Y&T front man Dave Meniletti. Meniketti spoke about his wines, the details on a new Y & T documentary, his wife’s book, new album road map and touring plans
When asked about the inspiration behind the Meniketti Wines
“There was guy that was working at a winery that kept bugging me all the time, Meneketti you should come out with your own wine. And this was before I really knew too much about other bands coming out with wine. But eventually it just got to the point where I’m just gonna give it a try. Well do it small and see how it goes. It’s gotta be the stuff that I really enjoy and just went for it. “
On the details, stories and updates on the new Y & T documentary
“We have been talking about doing a documentary for a long time. I saw a few out there from a other bands and that sort of inspired us as well. But I guess it’s the new thing of the day. There is no spin on this we’ve been around for a long time, come January it’s going to be our 42 year of existence. We have a lot of stories to tell, some are a unique introduction into the music business. This is sort of my book it’s going to tell the story as much as I can do it.”
We had some fun tours, and some crazy tours. Certainly the two ACDC tours that we did in the 70’s with Bon Scott and the in the early 80’s when we did For Those About to Rock. Stories about touring with those guys and hanging out with them. And of course the parties and crazy shit that was going down with us and with Motley Crue. It is looking like the documentary will be out mid to late spring next year
On the road map and release date on a new album
We need to have time off from the road to spend two or three months straight so we can sit down and concentrate on writing for the next record. That is gonna happen next year we are going to spend a good period of time off the road and just finish this record and try to get something done by the end of 2016
On Ozzy Osbourne begging on his knees for Dave Meniketti to join his band after passing of Randy Rhodes
“We were playing with ACDC in 1982 and the last show on the UK and Ozzy was waiting for us as we got off stage and he was there with Sharon. And Ozzy got down on his knees in front of me of course the band members standing only a few feet away, did the up and down thing with the hands in the air, please join my band. It was something to be proud of, but I kindly declined I got my own fish to fry and but I appreciate the offer.”
On the writing process of the 80’s Y&T hit ‘Don’t stop running’
“Don’t stop running I wrote that when I was sleeping I remember waking up, grabbing the guitar that was close to me going into another room so I didn’t disturb my wife at 4 in the morning and trying to put some sort of recorder on to remember it and then went back to sleep.”
