“It’s been a pleasure to perform with our members from all over the world, and we’re grateful for this opportunity to take part in the Global Village Silver Jubilee celebrations,” said Fabio Zaffagnini, Founder and General Director of Rockin’1000. “It’s an experience that we’ll never forget, and Global Village will always have a special place in our hearts because we can’t wait to visit it in person as soon as possible.”
“We’re very happy we won this title, our first Guinness World RecordsTM title of the season,” said Jaki Ellenby, Executive Director of marketing and events at Global Village. “This is just the start for us as we launch a 25 week trip to beat 25 records. This year we promised surprises, and reuniting guests and partners to break down barriers is only one of the ways we’re celebrating this important season. Our historic opening concert fascinated fans from all throughout the world, and united people and cultures through music in the spirit of social inclusion. We’re excited that we could celebrate our opening with people from all over the world, and we’re thankful for the many incredible partners who have supported us in this endeavor.”
Carried out by Global Village and Rockin’1000, in collaboration with Arabian Radio Network (ARN), Emirates and Jumeirah Beach Hotel, the concert was streamed on the screens of the Global Village main stage and live streamed on YouTube to allow people of every country and continent to witness the show.
Rockin’1000 Global Gig’s catalogue saw four covers, classified as the greatest rock songs of all time, as protagonists: The punk version of “What a Wonderful World” by Joey Ramone, “Rockin ‘All Over the World” by Status Quo, “You Get What You Give” by New Radicals, and lastly “We Will Rock You” by Queen. It’s all about timeless classics, chosen for the appeal they have all throughout the world, and for their lyrics which are particularly relevant and fitting for this important occasion. Amongst the many surprises was the participation, at the end of the show, of the group Now United, who thrilled the guests with a live performance of “Come Together.”
