ROCKIN’1000 is launching a new project that pushes the rules of music production to the limit: Mission S000ngwriting, the production of the first unreleased track composed for 1,000 musicians, a co-creation project that will involve the 30,000 members of the Biggest Rock Band on Earth, coordinated by a team of artists including the Australian Nic Cester – singer-songwriter, guitarist and frontman of Jet, the Italians Giulio Nenna – producer, musician and composer – and Andrea DB Debernardi and finally the Brazilian Daniel Plentz of Selton, who have been working for several months to devise the procedures and guidelines for this never-before-attempted project.
Over the past few weeks, black-and-white flyers have been appearing around the streets of Milan, Rome, New York, Paris, and Mexico City. The participants of the Rockin’1000 Community photocopied and disseminated the flyers reading “Wanted Songwriters” and a phone number to be torn out, tracing how all the adventures that have marked Rock history were born. The voices of Nic Cester and Fabio Zaffagnini, founder of Rockin’1000, answer the phone, providing the first instructions on how to participate.
However, it is only as of today, until August 28, 2022, that the call to action is officially open to musicians who will agree to measure themselves with this new quest: to create an unreleased track designed to be performed by a thousand musicians, created with the contributions of hundreds of songwriters joining forces to explore new horizons of music production.
Anyone who is already a member of the Rockin’1000 Community can participate, but the call is also open to those who are not yet members; the important thing is to register at THIS LOCATION.
There are no limits on geographic origin, age, genre, or musical background; everyone can participate if well-disposed to be the new pioneers of a revolutionary project: the creation of the first song signed by 1,000 authors, including arrangements, musical composition, and lyric writing.
This is only the first milestone of a path structured in three steps: the composition of this unreleased track will be followed by a studio recording, which will involve hundreds of musicians, and finally, the song’s announcement with the launch of the video clip.
ROCKIN’ 1000
In 2015 Fabio Zaffagnini and a few friends came up with the ridiculous plan to make a video of 1000 musicians playing The Foo Fighters “Learn to Fly” in an attempt to convince the band to come to their hometown of Cesena and do a concert. The gamble paid off. The video went viral with more than 60 million views and The Foo Fighters added a date to their tour to fulfil the dream. And so ROCKIN’ 1000 was born. High off their success, from 2016 ROCKIN’ 1000 continued to grow in Italy. Their first concert was organised at the Stadio Cesena in front of an audience of 13,000. Their second gig at the Stadio di Firenze in Florence brought out a crowd of almost 30,000 with the presence of their rock star guest performer, Courtney Love. In 2019 the Stade de France in Paris hosted nearly 55,000 spectators for a one off concert. 2020 saw the release of the film “We are the Thousand, The Incredible True Story of ROCKIN 1000” directed by Anita Rivaroli and produced by Indyca. ROCKIN’ 1000 is the brainchild of Fabio Zaffagnini, produced with Claudia Spadoni, Martina Pieri, Mariagrazia Canu and Francesco “Cisco” Ridolfi.
