With their second single ‘Probably Sand’, noise rock outfit Walfang invite you to step into the shoes of total apathy. Based around the concept of not caring about the consequences of your actions, this song explores new, previously unexplored territory for the band as well as dark themes of nonchalance, despair and self-destruction.
The accompanying music video (made by Walfang themselves) aims to recreate chasing an seemingly endless destination while already being at your lowest point. Will the protagonist ever reach a place of rest and safety? The answer is unclear, but that doesn’t mean that giving up is an option.
‘Probably Sand’, along with previously released single ‘No Season‘, only scratch the surface of the new album and its genre-deyfing, raw sound. Be prepared for an eclectic mix of sounds on their upcoming album Trigger the Short-Fuzed, which releases 8th November 2024 on Barley Records.
We do nothing but dwell on doom, knowing that our future generations will eventually perish, a fact that fills us with dread. But what does that accomplish?
Purifying, subdued, and strangely beautiful in equal measure. The themes, ingrained in the DNA of Trigger the Short-Fuzed, allude to the complex state of modern society, the fear of premature extinction, and the hope of someday living in harmony.
Each member of the band has contributed to the vibe of the record, which can clearly be heard. From the jazz-inspired drum lines to the harmonised vocals of ‘Odiel’ and ‘Burny’, to the Pink Floyd-esque break in the middle of ‘No Season’.
Album releaseshow: 20/11/2024 – De Casino, Sint-Niklaas – w/ Ronker.
Walfang are:
Odiel Oosterlinck – guitar, vocals
Burny Roose – bass, vocals
Taco Bals – guitar
