Formed in early 2019, the Finnish Symphonic Doom Metal band INFIRMUM has approached the genre in a unique and complex way. With a sound that explores aspects of classical music combined with the traditional weight and melancholy of Doom, they released their debut album “Walls of Sorrow” in 2020, followed by the EP “The Great Unknown” in 2022. In January 2023, they released the single “Sleep of Reason,” which featured a music video. With the departure of vocalist Anna Rose in 2023, Brazilian singer Sabine Blodwin joined the band, bringing a new perspective from a different culture.
INFIRMUM have released their new single “Burn,” as a preview of their upcoming album “From The Depths I Cried,” expected by the end of the year.
“Burn is about everything that is controversial and burns inside the human soul, what we feel in secret, what people try to hide or extinguish to fit into society. In ‘Burn,’ while the male part exposes these feelings and unique visions of the world around, the female part represents the embracing of all these demons, the darkness as part of the human being, and this dark flame grows until it finally becomes one with the individual.” – Sabine
”Burn was fun to compose. Wanted to compose a bit faster song and I was in right mood so this turned out to be really good. It is always fantastic to notice how song evolves after I have sent just my guitar tracks and everyone begin to create their parts. Sometimes I delete some guitar leads so other instruments have more space. I am very happy with the results!”– Timo
”Burn was me trying to be more brutal than on other songs, very death metal lyrics” -Eliel
”When I first started to work on the drum parts for Burn, the demo had only Timo’s guitar tracks. But I could immediately hear that this song will be more aggressive and it needs to have a sense of danger. That’s what I aimed for with my drumming: danger alerting accents, tickling our primitive lizard brain with a sense of something bad looming around the corner, short machine gun like bursts of rhythm in kick drums etc. But also I wanted to keep our signature “beauty and the beast” dynamic present in the song, so I made some parts to have a more “flowy” feel for a nice contrast.”– Hanna-Leena

INFIRMUM’s music today can be described as profound and conflicted, exploring the darkest sides of human emotions, diving into the depths of madness, pain, sickness, and death, while still finding brief moments of hope, offering an atmospheric journey through the darkest corners of the human soul. Combining beauty and ferocity, their compositions are rich in textures and nuances with strong, reflective lyrics.
The current lineup includes Sabine Blodwin (formerly of Moonwitch, Draconian Opera, Pettalom) – Vocalist, Taka Eliel (Sanctuary of Hate) – Vocalist and Bassist, Erna Siikavirta (formerly in Lordi, Children of Bodom as session keyboardist, Sinergy as session keyboardist, Arthemesia and Deathlike Silence) – Keyboardist, Joonas Siikavirta (Begrim) – Guitarist, Timo Solonen (Grain of Pain) – Guitarist, Hanna-Leena “Hanska” (Mourning Wood) – Drummer, and Elya – Cellist.
Prepare to descend into the depths of sonic chaos and transcendence as Pretoria’s very own Acid Magus releases their latest single, Wytch, from their eagerly anticipated third studio album out via Mongrel Records. Known for their self-proclaimed “garage doom on shrooms” sound, the band takes listeners on an intense journey that blends the psychedelic energy of psych rock with the crushing weight of doom metal.
Wytch marks the introduction of the protagonist in what promises to be a compelling concept album. This track sets the stage for a narrative steeped in corruption, loss, and the indomitable strength of community. The rise of an empire and the birth of an unlikely people’s champion are explored through haunting melodies, frenetic rhythms, and the band’s signature doom-laden riffs.
For the first time in their discography, Acid Magus delves into the dark, abrasive world of black metal, adding a new layer of intensity to their already formidable sound. The inclusion of new drummer Jethro Vlag has brought a fresh dynamic to the band, with his prowess behind the kit elevating the music to new heights. Vlag’s contributions shine throughout Wytch, capturing a sound that oscillates between frenetic energy, simple beauty, and bone-crushing weight.
Acid Magus’ upcoming album is shaping up to be their most ambitious project yet. While details of the full album remain under wraps, Wytch offers a tantalizing glimpse into what fans can expect— an aural exploration of epic proportions that pushes the boundaries of what doom metal can be.
Maryland guitarist Wes Anderson released his new single “Goodbye” featuring TAPROOT vocalist Stephen Richards yesterday, August 30th on all digital platforms, in collaboration with THC MUSIC (Taproot, American Head Charge, Simon Says).
Says Anderson, “I’ve been a massive Taproot fan for literally decades, and pretty much grew up on them. Working with Stephen on this is a huge notch on the belt for me, and he absolutely brought his “A” game to this song. I’ve always loved his ability to seamlessly go from beautiful harmonies to guttural screams in the same phrase, and this song showcases that rare ability. Very rarely do I get a vocalist on a song that is so involved and excited about a project. I think it’s a special song, and I can’t wait for the world to hear it.”
“Goodbye” follows up Anderson’s June release of the Reggae-tinged rocker “Heads Are Gonna Roll”, featuring Skindred vocalist Benji Webbe, with founding Alien Ant Farm bassist Tye Zamora, and drummer Donald Spangler (Ballyhoo!).
View the teaser for “Heads Are Gonna Roll” here:
As former lead guitarist for Shanghai Superstars (2010 – 2012), Fiction 20 Down (2012 – 2015), Big Infinite (2015 – 2018 ), and now releasing music and performing as a solo artist, Wes Anderson has nearly 30 years as a touring and performing musician, building a reputation as a solo artist with collaborations with P-Nut (311), Jahred Gomes (Hed P.E.) and many more, spanning multiple genres and collaborators on each track, all of which start out with Wes and a guitar, and, through collaboration, take on a new life of their own.
“Heads” marked the first new Hard Rock track for Anderson since 2021’s “Out The Way”, which featured vocals from (hed) P.E. vocalist Jahred Gomes. In addition to Metal, Funk, and Punk-infused Rock bangers, Wes is also a producer and multi-instrumentalist cranking out recent and upcoming hip-hop collaborations with The Kaleidoscope Kid, Kosha Dillz, MC Bravado, ¡Mayday!, and the incomparable Madalen Duke.
With nearly 30,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and several independent single, EP, and LP releases charting on iTunes, national touring, major endorsements from companies like Dean Markley Strings and Paul Reed Smith, and a Maryland Breakout Artist of the Year award, it is clear Wes has the talent, drive, and vision to take his music to the masses.
After a decade plus hiatus, TAPROOT released their long-awaited album SCSSRS in 2023, and are performing at Louder than Life and Aftershock Festivals later in 2024.
After the successful predecessor “Dark Mother Rises”, the female fronted melodic metallers LANKESTER MERRIN from Lower Saxony announce their third album “Dark Mother’s Child”!

After an impressive festival summer, FIXATION is back with their new single “Tyrannical Miracle,” setting the standard for what we can expect from their upcoming EP. The band from Norway has quickly become a name to watch, and with their debut album “More Subtle than Death” and over 60 international concerts in 2023, they were able to kick off 2024 with a double nomination and the award for “Breakthrough of the Year” at the Norwegian Publishing Awards!
With “Tyrannical Miracle,” Fixation showcases an even rawer and more intense side of themselves. The track is a dynamic blend of powerful synths, heavy guitars, and strong vocal performances, spiced with elements of electronic music, stadium rock, and metalcore. Fixation explains: “It’s one of the most creative tracks on the EP, and the first time we’ve used blast beats. We didn’t want to set any limits on what Fixation could be, but just create something that was fun and sounded great.”
The band further shares that the song started as an idea from guitarist Tobias Østerdal and quickly fell into place after that. “The track is the result of us collaborating very closely from the beginning. The chorus came together very early on, and that’s when we realized we had something special,” says vocalist Jonas Hansen.
This summer, Fixation played at some of Europe’s most prestigious festivals, including Tuska in Finland, Summer Breeze Open Air and Full Force in Germany, and Masters of Rock in the Czech Republic. However, this is not the first time the band has conquered international stages – in 2023, they toured Europe with big names like Devin Townsend and Annisokay and performed at festivals like Download UK, Eurosonic in the Netherlands, and Rock Imperium in Spain.
Fixation has quickly made a name for themselves on the international scene and has received rave reviews from both the press and the audience. Among those who have taken notice of the band are BBC, Kerrang!, Metal Hammer, and Bring Me The Horizon, highlighting their growing influence.“We’re excited to see the audience go wild during the breakdown. We can’t wait to perform this live,” the band concludes.
