Finnish doom metal act GRAIN OF PAIN has unveiled a lyric video for the track “Can’t Be Fallen”, featured on the band’s latest album “The Moon Lights The Way”, officially released via Noble Demon on May 31.
Mastermind Timo Solonen on the song and its meaning: “Even if you get beaten up all the time and hit the ground, you can get up. Never give up. Persistence can be a good thing sometimes. This is a bit different tune but it’s good to break the pattern. Lars brought energy to the chorus. Simple lead melody had been hauntingme for ages and I just had to get it out.”
Led by Timo Solonen, GRAIN OF PAIN‘s musical style merges dark, emotional melodies with powerful, guttural vocals. The band’s lineup boasts a stellar cast of musicians, including Timo Solonen on vocals and guitars, Juho Räihä on guitars, Lars Eikind on bass and clean vocals, Juuso Raatikainen on drums, and Sini Pajunen contributing captivating vocals. Taka Eliel’s backing growls enrich the band’s dark sound.
GRAIN OF PAIN‘s sound is characterized by intense emotional depth, drawing inspiration from various influences to craft a unique blend of dark atmospheres and powerful melodies. The band’s dedication has been recognized, with Lars Eikind winning the prestigious Spellemannsprisen award in Norway, and Juho Räihä and Juuso Raatikainen receiving Finnish Grammy nominations alongside Swallow the Sun.

In 2010, CUT unleashed their fifth studio album, “Annihilation Road.” Prior to this release, the band made a move to New York to collaborate with sound engineer, musician, and producer Matt Verta-Ray of Speedball Baby/Madder Rose/Heavy Trash fame.
The relationship between the Bologna-based trio and Matt was born on the road, thanks to the shows that CUT played with Speedball Baby and Heavy Trash in Italy and continental Europe. Matt is a skilled guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, sound engineer, and producer, running the all-analog studio N.Y. Hed in New York’s Lower East Side. He has recorded artists such as Ronnie Spector, The Oblivians, Dirtbombs, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and Andre Williams. Matt’s partner at N.Y. Hed was Ivan Julian from legendary punk/new wave outfit Richard Hell and The Voidoids, who edited and mastered the album.
Mutual respect, friendship, and shared musical taste between CUT and Matt Verta-Ray led to the collaboration that created this album. It was an exciting experience for CUT, a true immersion into the environment that spawned a large share of the music that inspired them. The result was a powerful album whose songs still constitute the backbone of the band’s fiery live shows.
Subsequent to their 1st successful single of album no. 10 “Wenn Der Teufel Anruft” (Metalville Records – ou on October 18th), OHRENFEINDT now deliver single no. 2, a very special love song: “Rakete”, a four-to-the-floor stomper about to become a rock’n’roll anthem somewhere between AC/DC, Aerosmith, and ZZ Top, a more than special love song, a song to that rocket to your heart. Big emotion meets wild guitars: turn up your radio, put your leather jacket on, and bang your head: RAKETE!

The band was formed in 2019 from an idea of musicians who at the time were part of acts such as Black Rage, In-sight, Atlas Pain and Sojourner. After a debut show supporting Asphyx and some line-up changes, the band entered the studio to record their debut album “Front: Toward Enemy” in 2020. After its release in 2021, HUSQWARNAH kept themselves busy on the live front, sharing stages with acts such as Mortuary Drape, Baest, Discharge, High On Fire and Voivod. The latter show was recorded and then independently released under the title “Live At Bloom” in 2023. HUSQWARNAH‘s death metal is as genuine and convincing as it can possibly get, paying homage to certain traditional formulas dating back to the early nineties, with songs that are particularly compact in structure and dynamics, ideal for being performed live and thus reminiscent of bands such as Asphyx, Bolt Thrower and Benediction.
At some point in your life you just have to take account for your actions and face the music. PROPHETS OF ADDICTION mainman Lesli Sanders has taken that to heart. PROPHETS OF ADDICTION’s fourth album, Face the Music is set for a release on 25 October via BraveWords Records. The first single, Superhero, from the upcoming album will be released 27 September.
Kicking things off with the downright dirty “Flavor of the Danger,” the listener is immediately clued in to what they’re getting with Face the Music, an album loaded with catchy late 70s inspired glam punk n roll riffs, powerful and emotionally resonant vocals and a clever lyrical output. “Let’s Get High” sees the band slide slightly into a melodic goth route ala Sisters of Mercy. The song isn’t a drug reference, but a “recollection of the excitement that a new record would bring as a teenager and after the long wait finally able to hear it for the first time,” says Sanders. The band’s take on the Rod Stewart classic “Maggie May” is nothing short of punk magnificence, The band had the opportunity to play the track for drum legend Carmine Appice, who played with Stewart from 1976 – 1982. Appice was so impressed that he asked, “would you mind if I send this to Rod?” The album’s lead single “Superhero” comes complete with a hook that won’t leave your head for days. “Superhero is a song I have been sitting on for a few years and wasn’t going to record until the right musicians were put in place, realizing the potential. I finally found that group of musicians,” the frontman states.
Face the Music, PROPHETS OF ADDICTION’s debut for Bravewords Records was recorded between 2022 and 2023 in Seattle, WA and Las Vegas, NV and produced, mixed and mastered by Phil Soussan (bass player for Ozzy Osbourne, Billy idol and more). Drummer Wayne Stokely says of the album, “We wanted to make a classic 70’s style rock n’ roll album without losing our raw and punky vibe, but with a modern 2024 production. There’s not a lot of records out there like this one, so I think we achieved our goal. The songs speak for themselves,” while Sanders adds “this is the record I have been wanting to record for years. The feel is right, the musicianship is right, the songs are right and now the time is right for you all to give us your thoughts.”
Of the band’s signing with hotshot upstart label Bravewords, Sanders declares “We were looking for the right label and the search was extensive, the most important aspect to me was getting it out there for people to hear – otherwise, what’s the point, right?” while Stokely adds, “I’ve known Tim and Giles for years now. Plus, I’m already signed to the label with another act so it seemed like a natural fit.”

Théodore Rondeau, the creative initiator behind VESTIGE, embarked on a journey of forming the band during a turbulent phase in his life. Emerged as a creative vessel for a complicated emotional journey, the band transcends the boundaries of individual therapy into a collaborative force that hopefully resonates with the feelings that may be all too common for the human experience.
With a profound connection to their craft, VESTIGE pour their souls into their debut album, infusing it with a captivating blend of melancholy, desperation, and catharsis. The music serves not only as an expression of their turmoil, but as a conduit for listeners to navigate the complexities of their own emotions. Through this process, VESTIGE becomes a project with the potential to connect with people on a profound level, forging a collective experience through the universal language of music.
The formation of VESTIGE’s lineup reads like a musical destiny unfolding: Pierre-André Krauzer on the bass, Quentin Regnault on drums, and Théodore on vocals and guitar. They first crossed paths during their tenure in Naraka, a band that shared stages with icons like Cradle of Filth and Alcest. This initial connection laid the groundwork for the formation of the band. Not long after, the addition of Thomas Petit on the second guitar solidified the lineup, bringing a sense of completeness to the ensemble. The band’s sonic identity now established; VESTIGE was ready to share this experience with the world.
The signing with Season of Mist brings the band’s first milestone, allowing VESTIGE to share their journey in the form of their debut album, Janis. Poised for release in late 2024, the album is a culmination of their collective efforts and a statement of the band’s arrival in the heavy music scene. Weaving through atmospheric shoegaze textures, melodic landscapes and intense, tormented moments that reflects the emotional spectrum of the human experience, the band established a foothold into the genre of modern metal.
Beyond the studio, VESTIGE is gearing up for a series of live performance in 2024, setting the stage for an introspective musical experience that brings raw and authentic energy. A cathartic release that pulls in the listener into the emotional depths the band has to bring.
