Interview with AVENIE: “Were not holding back anymore, we’re unleashing our skills and raising the middle finger to caution!”

AVENIE is a Melodic Death metal band from Tampere, Finland. After doing some line-up changes, they are now working on their second album and we’re eager to hear how it’s going! We got a chance to interview Avenie’s guitarist Matti Auerkallio.

1.First things first. Tell us about your summer?

Well, as far as Avenie is concerned, we’ve been pretty calm on the surface. Underneath, we spent some time getting the new guys into shape so we wouldn’t completely embarrace ourselves in the Sauna Open Air afterparty gig we did. We also immediately dug into the new material, I see no point in learning all the old songs after changes like these within the band.

Interview with KYPCK – Sami Lopakka: Russian Melancolic And Hopeless Sound And Admosphare From Finland

Finnish doom metal band KYPCK (Kursk), released their second album on 9th of Feb. 2011. The band is known from their melancolic and hopeless sound and admosphare. Their lyrics have elemets from russian culture and history. Band forms from singer – E.Seppänen, Guitarist – S.S. Lopakka who we can remember from the lines of Sentensed, Bass player – J.T. Ylä-Rautio and a drummer – K.H.M. Hiilesmaa, who’s been producing HIM, Apocalyptica and Sentenced, to name a few. I’m honored to do an inteview with the Guitarist S.S. Lopakka.

1. Your new album Nizhe was released on 9th of February. You must be relieved. How long did it take for you guys to create this album?

Yes, relieved indeed. The songwriting itself didn’t take more time than usual, when the inspiration is there it all comes together somewhat quickly. In the studio we spent about 5 weeks this time, including the mix, and I think you can hear the difference in the sound. Hiili did a superb job once again. But the delay, which was almost a year between the mixing and the actual release of the album, was caused by an unclear situation with a multinational, so called major label we were negotiating with. We were waiting for their „final confirmation” for over half a year, still after the album was finished, finally got pissed off & fed up and looked for another solution. But here we are now, our second torpedo out of the tube!

Interview with Odium: “It’s Not Fake, This Is Real, This Is Pure.”

Odium is a brutal metal band from France that bows for no-one. This band formed on 2007 is new for me and I can’t seem to find that much information of them but us in Metal Shock Finland got the hunch and are hungry for more!

Nelli:    Let’s start this interview with a fairly basic question, could you please tell us a little bit of the band?

Band: Odium was born by a meeting of Sotää and Hellesylt on 2007. The goal of the project was to create music, able to retransmit their hate and disgust for the world we live in. Christo came to complete the crew as guitarist and Odium started to reach the road and released their first demo named “Shadows falling”. On 2009, Cristo left the band and Sotää started to search a new guitarist . « Universal Genocide » was released at this time with Sotää playing guitar, bass and vocals. Finally, after a whole modification of the line up, Ozrib took the bass and Sotää both vocals and guitar. Now, Odium is a solid entity, ready to spread the hatred all over this sick world.

Interview With Leeni-Maria Hovila – Kivimetsän Druidi: Never Make An Elf Angry…

Kivimetsän Druidi is a folk metal band from Kouvola (Finland). ‘Kivimetsän Druidi’ is Finnish for “druid of the stone forest”. Each band member has their own personal influences. After releasing numerous demos and EPs, Kivimetsän Druidi finally signed a record deal with Century Media in 2008. In April 2010 the band has released their 2nd album ”Betrayal, Justice, revenge”. Kivimetsän Druidi are: Leeni-Maria Hovila (Female vocals), Joni Koskinen (Male vocals, lead guitar), Antti Koskinen (keyboards), Antti Rinkinen (guitar), Simo Lehtonen (bass guitar), Atte Marttinen (drums).

The other day, Metal Shock Finland’s Nelli Perkkiö had a chat with Leeni-Maria Hovila.

Review: Kivimetsän Druidi – Betrayal, Justice, revenge

Two years after their debut album “Shadowheart” (2008) with Century Media, Finnish fantasy metal band, Kivimetsän Druidi has released their second album “Betrayal, Justice, revenge” on 26 of April 2010.

Kivimetsän Druidi recorded the album between September and December 2009 at MadMix studio, in their home town Kouvola, Finland. In between of releasing their previous album and the new one, the band has been playing several gigs in different countries, mostly outside Finland.

Album starts with an intro track “Lament For The Fallen”. This humble, melancholic track does a brilliant job by capturing listeners’ attention. Makes you really want to know what is the story the band wants to tell you. Song grows in good pace with a fairly simple, but well working riff. Intro flows nicely to the next song “Aesis Lilim”, that’s packed with energy. Fantacy metal with folk elements and a hint of thrash, works together like a rock.

Third song “Seawitch and the Sorcerer” draws my attention to lead singer Leeni Maria. She really stands out as a professional singer and has improved from the bands previous album. In this track her singing is spot on and co-operates with the male voices really well.

After the next song “The Visitor” album calms down and goes back to bands folk metal roots in songs “Manalan Vartija” and “Tuoppein’nostelulaulu” . At the end of “Tuoppein’nostelulaulu” there’s almost like a new Intro for albums seveth song “Chant Of The Winged One” that works really well. I find my self being more interested in this album than I was. Drums on this song drag most of my attention as they go from flowing, smooth and easy sounding to tight more technical playing.
