Paving the way for their their upcoming – and so explosive – hit-filled covers album 1994, the mighty Sponge release their new single and video, a fabulous take on Morrissey’s “The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get.”
1994 was the year in which Sponge themselves broke through, releasing their debut album Rotting Piñata, plus two massive hit singles,“Plowed” and “Molly (Sixteen Candles).”
But the year was remarkable for other reasons, too. 1991 might have gone into the history books as “the Year That Punk Broke.” But 1994 was the year in which alternative music conquered all, and 1994 celebrates some of the most significant singles of that incredible 12 months, a time capsule full of magnificent memories, lovingly recrafted in classic Sponge style.
These include Sponge’s uniquely inspired versions of iconic alt rock hits like Blur’s “Girls and Boys,” Sonic Youth’s “Bull In The Heather,” Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You,” Alice In Chains’ “No Excuses,” Oasis’s “Supersonic” and more! The full album will be released in all formats on October 18.
Originally heard on Morrissey’s first US Top 20 album Vauxhall and I, “The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get” is the ideal introduction to this remarkable album, with director Drew Forier’s darkly glamorous (if possibly NSFW) video layering the atmosphere even thicker.
As Sponge vocalist Vinnie Dombroski puts it, “The band considered many great songs for the album but the Morrissey song was a STAND OUT and perhaps not an obvious choice for Sponge. That’s what makes it even cooler. With the tempo double timed from the original at the suggestion of producer Tim Patalan, the new version sounds like something off of Sponge’s 1999 New Pop Sunday album”.
Watch out for several performance videos set to be released prior to street date to build buzz and anticipation for this killer album, and catch the band on the road as well:
SEPT 26 – Dubuque, IA – Q Casino SEPT 28 – Lapeer, MI – Thunder Dome SEPT 29 – Louisville, KY – Louder Than Life OCT 4 – Umatilla, OR – Rock The Locks Fest OCT 5 – Blue Lake, CA – Blue Lake Casino
Wanikiya Record is thrilled to announce the addition of Unfaithfull, one of Italy’s leading Industrial-Core metal bands, to its roster. This collaboration kicks off with the highly anticipated release of their new album, “Architextures”, on October 17, 2024.
The album, featuring 7 powerful tracks filled with dynamic soundscapes, marks yet another evolution in the band’s musical journey. Blending the crushing death metal of the ’90s with the cold and captivating atmosphere of post-industrial electronic music, “Architextures” offers an explosive fusion of styles ranging from industrial metal to metalcore, groove metal, djent, and death metal. The result is a visceral and immersive sonic experience, with no room for compromise.
Active since 2007, Unfaithfull have firmly established themselves in the metal scene with their distinctive style and fearless experimentation. They have already earned significant accolades, including the “Self Release of the Month” award from Rock Hard Italy for their third album, “AEON”, in 2020, and the “Best EP” award from European Metal Channel in 2015.
With “Architextures”, Unfaithfull aims to further cement their position on the global metal scene, offering innovative and raw sounds that break boundaries. Some of the band’s key members have played with Dark Lunacy, and the members include Drew (guitar, bass, drums, synth, and sound engineer) and Drake (vocals and lyricist).
Don’t miss the release of “Architextures”, available on all major digital platforms starting October 17, 2024, through Wanikiya Record

Today, Dutch singer-songwriter CHARLOTTE WESSELS embarks on a dark and heavy journey as she unveils the latest single from her upcoming solo album, The Obsession, out this Friday, September 20, 2024 via Napalm Records! The new track entitled “Ode To The West Wind“ features powerhouse vocals by Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy, as this collaborative masterpiece mixes Charlotte’s enchanting style with Alissa’s strong presence.
After chart-breaking success and ruling stages worldwide with DELAIN, Wessels takes her solo career to the next level with her first traditional full-length, full-band solo album. Having already gained a devoted following with her previous solo offerings, The Obsession is sure to impress fans and critics alike. The multifaceted record marks an exciting and touching listening experience and, together with its honest storytelling, it acts as Wessels’ most mature solo offering so far.
CHARLOTTE WESSELS on “Ode To The West Wind”: “I’m thrilled to present the fifth single from The Obsession – and my fifth collaboration with the incomparable Alissa White-Gluz. Many of our songs together are inspired by or based on classic poetry, and ‘Ode to the West Wind’, drawn from Percy Shelley’s poem of the same name, is the latest addition to this thematic journey. Shelley’s poem reflects his admiration for the untamable force of nature and his thoughts on his own legacy. For the music video, we explored humanity’s impact on the natural world (spoiler: it’s not pretty) by reimagining iconic artworks like Caspar David Friedrich’s Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog and Raphael’s cherubs from the Sistine Madonna, only this time suffused with pollution, wings made of trash, and covered in toxic waste.
I’m incredibly excited about how this song has evolved through my collaboration with the band and Alissa, I can’t wait to unleash this wall of sound at our upcoming shows, and of course I can’t wait for you to experience this song in the full context of The Obsession – out in just a few days!”
While still writing and producing the first incarnations of her songs in her Six Feet Under basement home studio and sharing them with patrons, now CHARLOTTE WESSELS is taking the songs from her new album The Obsession to the next level with a band of her fellow ex-DELAIN cohorts Timo Somers (guitars, additional arrangements), Otto Schimmelpenninck van der Oije (bass) and Joey Marin de Boer (drums) as well as Sophia Vernikov (piano/hammond), contributing to the new heavier sound. The album also features arrangements by Vikram Shankar (Silent Skies, Pain of Salvation), cello by Elianne Anemaat, was mixed by Guido Aalbers (Muse, Coldplay, The Gathering) and mastered by Andy VanDette (Porcupine Tree, VOLA, Dream Theater).
CHARLOTTE WESSELS about the new album: “On the one hand, this album tells a very personal story – through its unintended theme of fear, obsessive thoughts and the escapes from them – and at the same time it represents the joy of finding the song’s true forms with everyone involved in the making of this record. That’s why I chose The Obsession as a title. It refers to my personal challenges with OCD that inspired many of the songs – but I’ve also started referring to the band as The Obsession – because there were moments in the studio with them that truly reminded me of why I’m obsessed with making music in the first place.”
With thousands of monthly listeners on Spotify and a loyal fan base on Patreon, Charlotte Wessels has already made a mark with her earlier solo endeavors, Tales From Six Feet Under (2021) and Tales From Six Feet Under Vol II(2022). Now, she is taking her career to the next level with The Obsession. These compilations showcased her ability to blend various musical styles and deeply personal lyrics, earning her widespread acclaim. The Obsession is expected to build on this foundation, offering fans an even more immersive and powerful musical experience.
Songs like “The Exorcism”, “The Crying Room” and“Ode To The West Wind” (feat. Alissa White-Gluz/Arch Enemy) lead into darker spheres, whilst a track like “Dopamine” (feat. Simone Simons/Epica) shows a rather optimistic approach. It deals with SSRI-induced numbness, or “Praise” – which sings the gospel of needing external validation in order to feel anything. The reimagining of fan-favorite “Soft Revolution” won’t leave a dry eye in the room, while “Soulstice” and “Serpentine” present an unprecedented dark sensuality. Each song itself functions like an exorcism, an attempt to cast out a little of the fear it deals with.
CHARLOTTE WESSELS about the guests: “I’m extremely grateful and proud to add Simone Simons and Alissa White-Gluz to the line-up of this album. They are creative powerhouses that I have so much love and respect for. Whenever we get to work together is an absolute treat and they really elevated the songs with their performances.”

As the Creed Summer of ’99 tour continues to play to sold out audiences across North America and anticipation grows towards the release of The End Will Show Us How, world-renowned guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Mark Tremonti is back with another song from his solo band, TREMONTI and their upcoming sixth studio album. “The Mother, The Earth and I” is a personal favorite of Mark’s and the song sets the tone for what fans can expect from the rest of the album. The song talks about the connection that all people have to the planet Earth regardless of personal differences. The song is now available via all digital service providers. The visually captivating music video depicts the message of the song with cinematic visuals created by director J.T. Ibanez (Sevendust, Hawthorne Heights, Loveless).
Mark Tremonti explains about the message of the song: “Throughout mankind, everyone has fought over things like power, religion, and their beliefs. One side believes it’s right and everyone else is wrong. No matter what you believe in though, we all belong to the earth. You can always fall back on its beauty.”
With a musical catalog that includes 18 previously released full length albums from his work with Creed, Alter Bridge and various solo endeavors, the new album entitled The End Will Show Us How is scheduled for global release on January 10, 2025 via longtime partner, Napalm Records. Mark Tremonti is back with a collection of 12 original compositions that continues his musical evolution while showcasing his ability to write memorable songs – something he has done for nearly three decades. Mark is backed in TREMONTI by Eric Friedman (guitars), Tanner Keegan (bass) and Ryan Bennett (drums).
Tremonti’s musicianship and songwriting is on full display on each song on The End Will Show Us How. Tracks like the opener “The Mother, The Earth and I,” the thought provoking “It’s Not Over” and the epic closer “All The Wicked Things” show that Mark continues to create compositions that continue to engage audiences comprised of both old and new fans alike. “Nails” is a musical idea that Mark has had for years and finally found the inspiration to complete. “Tomorrow We Will Fail” is an inspirational piece that talks about not putting off until tomorrow something you can conquer today. “Now That I’ve Made It” is a message for anyone who has ever had anyone doubt them and try to hold them back from following their dreams. The debut single “Just Too Much” is currently in the Top 40 at Active Rock radio and moving up the charts with a bullet. An official music video for the single, directed by J.T. Ibanez (Sevendust), can be seen HERE.

About TREMONTI: After three decades, 18 full-length albums, and thousands of shows, Mark Tremonti continues to relentlessly push himself as a guitarist, a vocalist, and a songwriter, above all. This unstoppable drive has underscored his catalog earmarked by a GRAMMY® Award, cumulative streams in the billions, and total sales of 60 million units worldwide across his inexhaustible output with Creed, Alter Bridge, and solo band TREMONTI. Distinguished as Guitar World’s “Guitarist of the Decade,” selected as a flagship PRS endorsee, and celebrated on the covers of numerous publications worldwide, he approaches the guitar with an insatiable curiosity and innate need to create. At the same time, he constantly stretches his voice, reaching new heights with each subsequent project.
His voice, writing, and playing have supercharged Tremonti as a force in its own right. The band has delivered a string of celebrated releases, including All I Was [2012], Cauterize[2015], Dust [2016], A Dying Machine [2019] accompanied by an acclaimed novel of the same name co-written by Mark with John Shirley, and Marching In Time [2021]. Earning acclaim, KERRANG! hailed the latter as “another worthy chapter in its creator’s well-populated book,” and American Songwriter praised how “Marching In Time is structured around denser melodies and reflective epistles prodding around chunkier riffs.” Loudwire applauded the title track as “hypnotically epic,” and Guitar World readers voted “Now and Forever” as “The Best Riff of 2021.” Now, he levels up all around on his 19th overall LP and sixth TREMONTI full-length, The End Will Show Us How[Napalm Records].
With muscular grooves, evocative solos, heart-pumping riffs, and seismic melodic vocals, The End Will Show Us How is a testament to Tremonti’s legacy of ceaseless creativity and a triumph for him.
To coincide with National Voter Registration Day, Constitution Day, and Citizenship Day, R.E.M. has today released We Are Hope Despite The Times, a digital compilation of songs aimed at encouraging their listeners to stay informed, engaged, and vote during this critical election season. The playlist brings together tracks from the band’s catalog that resonate with themes of activism and social responsibility. Fans can listen on their preferred music platform here.
The compilation title, We Are Hope Despite The Times, is drawn from the lyric, “We are young despite the years / We are concern, we are hope despite the times” from the band’s song “These Days” (from R.E.M.’s 1986 studio album, Lifes Rich Pageant). The collection features 18 politically provoking songs including “Welcome to the Occupation,”“Swan Swan H,” “Fall on Me,” “World Leader Pretend,” and “Its the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine).
Throughout their career, R.E.M. has been a vocal advocate for civic engagement, using their platform to promote voter participation and social responsibility. In the early 1990s, they were one of the first bands to partner with Rock the Vote, playing a significant role in increasing youth voter turnout for the 1992 presidential election. Beyond Rock the Vote, R.E.M. has supported voter rights and democracy globally, performing at benefit concerts like the Vote for Change Tour and addressing political causes through their music, from war and environmental justice to human rights. Their commitment to these issues was also evident at the 1991 MTV VMAs, when the band used their acceptance speech for Best Video (“Losing My Religion”) to draw attention to causes like gun control, choice rights, voting rights, and alternative energy sources—issues that remain relevant today.
With We Are Hope Despite The Times, the band continues to encourage participation in the democratic process, urging fans to register to vote, make their voices heard, and play an active role in shaping the future. Fans can get more information on deadlines, register to vote, or update their registration by visiting vote.gov or headcount.org.
