ABOUT BYWATER CALL Bywater Call, is a powerhouse seven-piece Southern soul, roots rock band from Toronto, Canada. The band is completed by Meghan Parnell (vocals), Dave Barnes (guitar), Bruce McCarthy on drums, Mike Meusel on Bass, newest member, John Kervin on Keys, Stephen Dyte on trumpet and Julian Nalli on tenor sax.
Bywater is currently UK Blues Award nominated for International Blues Artist of the year. They have toured extensively in Europe where shows have been praised by Dutch, German and UK media, with references to Meghan as one of the best female voices in blues and roots today.
In August 2023, the band participated in Joe Bonamassa’s third Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea Mediterranean Cruise alongside headliners Blackberry Smoke and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram and were invited to perform at the All-Star Jam on the mainstage with Bonamassa himself. Guitarist Dave Barnes was also asked to join legendary blues artist Jimmy Vivino (Conan O’Brien’s Basic Cable Band) on stage.
Bywater Call have commanded festival stages in Canada and around the world, often referred to as the “find of the fest”. In May of 2023, they opened for Canadian award-winning band Whitehorse at the inaugural Smokestack Music Festival in Hamilton, Ontario. In July, Meghan joined renowned pedal-steel guitarist Robert Randolph on stage at his request, at the Briggs Farm Festival in Nescopeck, PA.
On October 24, 2023, Bywater performed a live stream performance for the famed German TV show and festival Rockpalast.
In 2023 alone, the band played a total of 96 shows in 10 countries, 89 Cities, 19 US States and three Canadian provinces. This is not including a month-long duo tour in Europe and the UK where Meghan and Dave opened for Southern California rockers Robert Jon & The Wreck, who have recently partnered with Joe Bonamassa’s Journeyman Records.
The band’s music is an exploration of life’s highs and lows. From intimate ballads that lay bare the complexities of human emotion to electrifying anthems that demand to be played at full volume, their catalogue is a journey through the human experience, incorporating influences from the likes of The Band, The Wood Brothers, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Otis Redding, Little Feat, Sly and the Family Stone, among others.
The Metal Voice recently spoke to W.A.S.P. frontman Blackie Lawless spoke about the bands upcoming North American tour, celebrating the bands 40th anniversary of their debut album.
W.A.S.P. for the first time in 40 years, will play the entire album, start to finish, on their North American tour, dubbed “Album ONE Alive”, this fall. Support on the trek will come from DEATH ANGEL and UNTO OTHERS.
When asked if he will be sitting down (as he did at Sweden Rock Festival) on the upcoming tour as he is recovering from back surgery
“I told the people at Sweden Rock I’m on probation. The doctors told me you can do the show but we don’t want you running any marathons. We want to make sure that this this thing heals completely and totally and you don’t have any setbacks. So that was the compromise that we had to make to do it. But I’m fully expecting that they’ll give me the green light anytime now. I see the doctors again this week and I’ll know more then.”
When asked about the upcoming tour celebrating the release of the debut album “The date August 17th 1984 was significant cuz that was the day that first album was released so we have not done the album in its entirety since that original tour. People had asked for it before and quite honestly you know a lot of times when you’re the person that creates something you don’t ever really see it like other people will see it because you’re on the inside of that bubble. When I tested this idea on a half dozen people that I trust, different promoters around the country, the reaction was not just positive. I mean basically the word I kept hearing over and over was holy- [ __ ]. It wasn’t just positive it was almost one of those visceral reactions. I thought huh maybe we got something here. The artists a lot of times can be naive to that is we’re on the inside and we just don’t see it like someone else would. I had a friend of mine who’s a promoter that I trust a lot and he was telling me you know that this needs to be done or when you do it that they need to be done in chronological order the way they are the running order is on the album. And I argued him up and down on that. I go well listen that means you know we need to start with I want to be somebody (song) we’ve never done that before., you’re throwing a monkey wrench into my whole plan here. And he says listen he goes if Zeppelin got back together and they did Zeppelin 4 do you want to hear that album in it’s proper running order? So I sit there and I say, yeah. I came to the conclusion if you’re going to do it in its entirety you need to do it in its proper running order.”
When asked the possibility of bringing former guitarist Randy Piper and Chris Holmes on stage as special guests since it is the Album ONE tour ‘If the climate were right you would be correct but that climate is not right. There’s water under the bridge that I could not see that ever happening. But allow me to say this what I’m attempting to do here with this show is create an environment not dissimilar to what we did in the beginning. I want to take you back to that moment (early touring years of W.A.S.P.) because most of the audience that are at these shows never lived through it. I don’t want to just have you listen to to an older record. I want to take you back to where that time and space was and for the two hours that we’re in there I want to turn that clock back to make you think you’re actually living through it and with what we’re doing.”
When asked if they will perform any other W.A.S.P. songs on this tour along with the debut album and where does Animal (F like a beast) fit in? “There’ll be a part one (Debut album performance) and a part two. So there’ll be an intermission in between about five -six minutes and then we’ll come back and we’ll do the second part which will be like our greatest hits type of presentation. Now Animal was never part of that debut record. I would say that any of that stuff that could potentially be done if it’s going to be played would be played in the second half but it’s not going to be part of the original album because it was never part of the original album. ‘

Southern California’s NAILS have revealed details today of their long-awaited, 4th full-length album, Every Bridge Burning. Their first record in 8 years will be released on August 30th with Nuclear Blast Records and features 10 tracks of pure, relentless aggression that can only be described as the sound of NAILS.
The tumultuous new album was produced by Kurt Ballou at God City Studio and features aptly diabolic artwork by Jef Whitehead.
While founding vocalist/guitarist Todd Jones has long been recognized as the driving creative force behind NAILS, it has also been announced the band has reemerged with new lineup that includes drummer Carlos Cruz (Warbringer), bassist Andrew Solis (Despise You, Apparition), and guitarist Shelby Lermo (Ulthar).
Today, NAILS gives fans a taste of what’s to come with the hostile new single ‘Imposing Will.’
“‘Imposing Will’ is special to the record in that I knew we wanted it to be the opener,” explains Jones. “We wanted it to have the effect of an urgency; an immediacy in the music itself. When you push play, you get smacked in the face.”

Y’all hear that? The rumble in the distance ain’t your drunk uncle on his third pass at the chili cook-off; it’s the almighty, riff-crushing, eardrum-busting caravan of renegades known as WEEDEATER. And guess what, Europe? They’re stormin’ your castles with a tour chock-full of Southern-fried metal madness that’s heavier than a double-loaded barbecue platter after Mardi Gras.
Catch them on the following dates, presented by Tone Deaf Touring: 12 July: Erfurt, DE @ Stoned From the Underground 13 July: Lille, FR @ La Bulle Cafe 14 July: London, UK @ Underworld 17 July: Helsinki, FI @ Kuudes Linja 19 July: Praia de Quiaios, PT @ Woodrock Festival 21 July: Manchester, UK @ Rebellion 22 July: Dublin, IE @ Grand Social 24 July: Wiesbaden, DE @ Schlachthof 25 July: Berlin, DE @ Neue Zukunft 26 July: Cottbus, BE @ Bluemoon Festival
Brace yourselves for a night filled with the kind of head-bangin’, foot-stompin’, soul-shakin’ debauchery that only WEEDEATER can deliver. Them syrupy slow riffs will resonate in your bones, the canyon-deep bass will rumble your guts, and hard-hittin’ drumming will slap the sobriety right outta your system.
WEEDEATER‘s fifth full-length installment merges true Southern rock and metal with their unique blend of raw humor, old religion, and tributes to weed and whiskey. Goliathan not only showcased WEEDEATER‘s distinctively syrupy slow riffs, buoyed by canyon-deep bass, but also encapsulates the band’s full-on swagger and shuffle like never before. The album is a landmark in their adventurous journey through music, embodying the crossroads of their musical and thematic elements at their absolute peak.
Y’all best brace yourselves for a double whammy of tunes—you’ll get a healthy dose of the swampy, thunderous tracks from Goliathan and some bona fide WEEDEATER classics that’ll shake your very soul. And hey, if you truly can’t wait to get your live fix, you can always haul yourself over to the Season of Mist Webshop to grab your self a copy.
Those infamous sludge outlaws WEEDEATER finally return with their long-awaited fifth full-length Goliathan. Their new album marks the crossroads where true Southern rock and metal meet raw humour, old religion, as well as weed and whiskey.
Goliathan embodies the band’s trademark shuffle and swagger at their fullest. Syrupy slow riffs are buoyed by canyon-deep bass and some of the hardest-hitting drumming since Keith Moon. Full-on bruisers such as “Cain Enabler”, “Claw of the Sloth”, and the aptly-named “Bully” demonstrate that Goliathan is delivering a vintage WEEDEATER and the soon-to-be gold standard of Southern sludge metal.
At its founding, the band rose like a doobie phoenix out of the ashes of BUZZOV•EN. When the cult sludge act called it a day, bass player Dave “Dixie” Collins teamed up with guitarist Dave “Shep” Shepherd and founded WEEDEATER in the harbor town of Wilmington about the year 1998. Their crushing and massive first full-length ‘…and Justice for Y’all’ (2001) created an immediate buzz, while critics were struggling to put a tag on their sound. Nearly everybody agreed that stoner rock, doom, sludge and some crusty elements were part of the mix, which the band simply calls “weed metal”.
The debut was produced by renowned engineer Billy Anderson (EYEHATEGOD, NEUROSIS) as well as sophomore album ‘Sixteen Tons’ (2002). WEEDEATER went out to perform live with CORROSION OF CONFORMITY and ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY among others. After some detours of Dixie Dave, who played shortly with BONGZILLA and SOURVEIN, third album ‘God Luck and Good Speed’ hit the world in 2007 and shifted the band’s focus slightly towards the stoner side.
The latest full-length ‘Jason… the Dragon’ got delayed when vocalist Dixie Dave lost a toe due to an incident with his favourite shotgun. When the sludge driven album finally came out in 2011, shows in the US and Europe cemented the band’s reputation as a fierce live entity.
After signing to Season of Mist, WEEDEATER reissued their full back-catalogue on their new label. Yet the Bible Belt state of North Carolina, USA remains a fertile ground for hemp and stoner rock. Goliathan makes the South smoke again. Lean back and let this monster record blow your mind!
