Following the release of their debut album ‘Ingen tid å miste’ (‘No time to waste’) in the summer of 2023, the Norwegian folk-rock band MÍO have garnered attention both at home and abroad for their distinctive sound and electrifying live performances. On January 12th, they will release their own take on the well-known Nordic drinking song ‘Det er meg det samme hvor jeg havner når jeg dør’ (‘It’s All the Same to Me Where I End Up When I Die’) in a punk package unlike anything you’ve heard before.
Over the past year, MÍO has garnered significant positive attention for bringing something new to the Norwegian music scene – both as an unforgettable live band and for their innovative genre fusion. When they debuted with their first album in the summer of 2023, their music was described as “restless folk-rock from and for a chaotic world, with virtuoso details and an approach to the rawness of the musical template that breaks all boundaries” by Dagsavisen’s music critic Mode Steinkjer.
The Oslo-based band has strong connections to the punk scene, rooted in the alternative underground. After extensive concert activity (including Midgardsblot, Telemarkfestivalen, Oslo Pride, among others), they have convinced audiences nationwide with compelling, energetic performances. MÍO combines folk, rock, and punk in a unique way. Adding fuzz to the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle, dynamic arrangements, and a lead vocalist with an enormous vocal range and a captivating storytelling ability, the folk-rock group has marked themselves as one of Norway’s most exciting up-and-coming bands.
On January 12th, they kickstart the new year by releasing new music – their rendition of an old Nordic drinking song ‘Det er meg det samme hvor jeg havner når jeg dør’. In MÍO’s interpretation, the banjo and fiddle truly shines. The accompaniment is solid, taking the song to a darker and heavier place than ever before. Here, the audience is invited to both dance and mosh. Vocalist Dionisia gets to showcase an even harder side in this punk song. Her anger is palpable – a primal scream that blasts through the speakers, hitting the listener like a hard punch in the face.
This is the first of several singles to come from MÍO, who are set to release more new music in 2024. The band embarks on a new tour across Norway in the spring of 2024, visiting all the major cities.
EXOCRINE have been pumping out rapid-fire tech-death since 2015. But the French metal mercenaries truly unleash the full scope of their unrelenting arsenal on the third single off Legend.
In ancient literature, “Eidolon” appear as ghostly doppelgängers. Exocrine go hunting for these demons during the bloody and bullet-filled video for their new single. Strapped with precision blast beats, the band rattle off laser-guided riffs and a bass that grooves with flattening force of a tank.
But this song isn’t just balls-to-the-wall adrenaline. On the heels of Jordy Besse’s commanding bark, the rhythm section spreads out into doomy, dread-soaked ambience.
“Brace yourselves for the sonic onslaught of Exocrine’s latest masterpiece – the music video for our track ‘Eidolon’,” says lead guitarist Sylvain Octor Perez. “Proudly blending melodic intricacies with brutal force, this song is a testament to the band’s unique fusion of melody and brutality.
“It’s a sneak peek into our upcoming album”, Perez continues, “a perfect marriage of technical prowess and breakneck speed. Exocrine is unleashing a sonic storm that will leave you craving more. Stay tuned for the imminent release of our album, a true embodiment of technical excellence and speed. Get ready to be blown away!”

Born from the depths of Bordeaux, France, EXOCRINE is a technical death metal juggernaut, a force that has redefined the very essence of the genre. Founded by the guitar-virtuoso Sylvain Octor-Perez, alongside the formidable talents of Nicolas La Rosa and Jordy Besse, this trio embarked on their relentless journey in 2013, marking the inception of a musical saga that would leave an indelible mark on the world of extreme music.
Exocrine’s debut album, ‘Unreal Existence,’ unleashed in 2015, was nothing short of a revelation. It showcased the band’s audacious creativity, instantly distinguishing them within the technical death metal scene. With labyrinthine compositions, ferocious riffs, and relentless drumming, Exocrine’s music delved into uncharted territories of sonic complexity.
In the years that followed, Exocrine solidified their signature sound, with albums such as ‘Ascension’ in 2017 and ‘Molten Giant’ in 2018, upon the latter release, Théo Gendron joined as a new member – forming the current-standing quartet of musicians. These releases cemented their reputation as pioneers of the genre, pushing the boundaries of what technical death metal could achieve. The band’s compositions are like sonic mazes, constantly evolving, keeping listeners captivated at every twist and turn.
Their 2022 release, ‘The Hybrid Suns,’ was yet another testament to their musical prowess. It demonstrated their unyielding commitment to pushing the envelope and exploring new realms of technical complexity.
Now, as the anticipation reaches a fever pitch, Exocrine is poised to release their next full-length opus, ‘Legend.’ This forthcoming masterpiece promises to be an epic chapter in their already storied career, destined to secure their place as legends within the hallowed halls of technical death metal.
Exocrine are architects of sonic transcendence, explorers of the uncharted, and pioneers of the unimaginable. With each release, they redefine the limits of technical death metal, and ‘Legend’ is poised to be their most audacious and groundbreaking endeavor yet, a true testament to their status as legends in the making.

Following their much acclaimed 2019 debut album, Lunar Falls – an album that not only stunned listeners and international press, but also rock and metal empire Napalm Records – Australian dark folk/blackgaze project SULDUSK will herald the new year with the release of their sophomore studio offering, Anthesis, out March 1, 2024! In celebration of today’s announcement, the band has revealed the album’s captivating title track and its accompanying music video.
While SULDUSK started as a one-woman project founded by the highly talented Emily Highfield, for Anthesis, she recruited incredibly talented musicians to help elevate the vision of their acoustic-based music to the level of an intense, powerful and heavy record. Anthesis continues where SULDUSK left off with their transfixing debut, yet proves musically more complex. The album will take you into a gloomy, magical world where the Melbourne-based project combines a high variety of dark and extreme sounds within its very own sonic universe.
“We are very excited to finally release ‘Anthesis’, which is the title track and first single off the upcoming album. Lunar Falls was a one woman project, but the new album is a band venture. This has enabled SULDUSK to delve even deeper musically, lyrically and as a live experience. Many thanks to the loyal fans for being ever so patient, and to the great team at Napalm Records.
Much love, Emily.”
On Anthesis, SULDUSK shines with dark folk, blackgaze, post-rock, prog, doom and even black metal elements – flowing together to create one very unique synthesis of sound. Emily’s voice is a strong highlight, impressing with softness and fragility at times, and turning over to demonic screams in the very next moment! For the first time in SULDUSK’s young history, there are also male vocal harmonies contributed by Shane Mulholland. Anthesis was produced and mixed by Troy Mccosker, and was mastered by Thomas “Plec” Johansson (Soilwork, Opeth, Katatonia). The album also features guest appearances of Raphael Weinroth-Browne (Leprous) and Rachelle Harvey on cello.
With their second album, SULDUSK are more than ready to embark on another journey into the depths of primeval forests, where emotions are hidden under the thickets to reveal what’s not meant to be seen. The album is a stunning and enthralling masterpiece – highly recommended for fans of Myrkur, Oathbreaker and Chelsea Wolfe – and one that unconditionally needs to be seen, felt and heard!
Italian death metallers KAIVS are starting 2024 with a bang as they announce their signing to Time To Kill Records for the release of their debut album “After the Flesh”.
Bursting from the void in 2022, Rome’s KAIVS released their debut demo, “Horrend”, in early 2023, plunging headlong into pure and total death metal. Keeping the same iron-fisted formula but finessing it further, the band is now ready to unleash their gnarliest strike yet with their first full-length album, which proudly upholds the banner of classic death metal as ushered in by early Entombed, Carnage and Dismember.
Pitch-black death metal, done as abrasively as a band possibly can do it, with the brutal atmosphere we come to expect from this sort of acts.
Watch for more details on the new album release and more news on other upcoming KAIVS activities to be posted shortly.
Kickstarting another era, UK alternative disruptors YONAKA, comprised of Theresa Jarvis [vocals], Alex Crosby [bass], and George Werbrouck-Edwards [guitar], return with a chaotically catchy new single entitled “PREDATOR” via LAVA/Republic Records. “PREDATOR” soundtracks a new cinematic video for the video game VALORANT, developed by Riot Games. Fans can listen to “PREDATOR” HERE and watch the official lyric video HERE.
Additionally, Apple Music touted it as the cover of New Music Daily this week.
About the song, Theresa said, “It’s a vicious, fierce, and aggressive song that makes you wanna move like you’re possessed and scream at the same time. Lyrically it’s about standing up tall and fighting back. This is ‘PREDATOR’”.
Once again, YONAKA incinerates all expectations. Tense off-kilter drums set an uneasy tempo as guitars pierce through the haze. Meanwhile, Theresa’s manic delivery instantly transfixes on a menacingly catchy refrain as she confesses, “I’m wired. I’m hot. I started. Can’t stop. I come out on top. I’m the PREDATOR.” The accompanying visual adopts a “PREDATOR”-style first-person, filtered perspective on a compilation of explosive live footage.
The band just supported Barns Courtney on a North American tour. Earlier this year, they ignited the Welcome To My House EP featuring singles “PANIC”, “By The Time You’re Reading This”, and “Give Me My Halo.” The project has already amassed millions of streams in addition to attracting widespread acclaim. Kerrang! praised, “The seven-track EP doesn’t conform to one genre, with YONAKA dipping into wonderfully crafted pop hooks and gritty rock oomph. Basically: it’s an EP to quench any palette.” and Atwood Magazine praised how “the Brighton band are able to convey what’s hidden within and being forced to the surface; it bares innards with no holds barred.” The Honey Pop christened them “a breakthrough band to keep your eye on.”

ABOUT YONAKA Sound bends to the whim of emotion. For YONAKA, music morphs in tandem with moods. Distortion teems with tension in moments of heavy catharsis, only to come back down in an exhale of electronic reprieve. As such, the UK trio —Theresa Jarvis [vocals], Alex Crosby [bass], and George Werbrouck-Edwards [guitar]— fuse pop, punk, and hip-hop into a hypnotic alternative rock hybrid. The group burrow deep inside themes of mental health, empowerment and the here and now with clear intention and expansive vision. After amassing over 150 million streams and earning widespread acclaim, YONAKA kickstart the next chapter with the release of their Welcome To My HouseEP out now via LAVA/Republic Records.
The EP features singles “PANIC”, “By The Time You’re Reading This” and “Give Me My Halo.” Theresa explains the EP’s theme., “each song represents a memory or emotion inside me. The experiences I have gone through have all spent time inside my house and consumed me. With the EP being called Welcome To My House, visually I want listeners to be able to open up a door, come into my world and see what each song meant to me at that specific time in my life.”
“When you listen to us, I hope you feel empowered, heard, and like you’re not alone,” Theresa states. “Hearing other people’s stories has helped me heal and grow so much and I’d like to be that light for other people.”

Platinum-selling, post-industrial/alternative rock pioneers, Filter have released their much-anticipated new album, ‘The Algorithm’. The album, their first in seven years, is a tight conceptual statement heralding career-best songwriting from mastermind Richard Patrick and giving the classic Filter sound a modern sonic edge.
The variety of writing on ‘The Algorithm’ attests to this being the freshest batch of songs that Patrick has dropped as one long-playing statement under the Filter moniker. This can be attributed to Patrick’s long list of collaborators – Zack Munowitz, Brian Liesegang, Sam Tinnesz, Mark Jackson, Ian Scott and Seth Mosely – with different writing partnerships contributing to an overall more colourful and creative patchwork, all unified under the vision of Patrick.
Richard Patrick, the creative mastermind behind Filter, has spent over 30 years pushing the boundaries of musical expression. His tenure as Nine Inch Nails‘ touring guitarist and involvement in the band’s iconic music videos cemented his place in rock history. Patrick left NIN in 1993 to form Filter. Their explosive debut album, Short Bus, achieved platinum status, propelled by the breakout single “Hey Man Nice Shot.” The success continued with their follow-up release, ‘Title Of Record’, also going platinum thanks to the crossover hit “Take A Picture.” Despite struggles with addiction and a stint in rehab, Patrick’s determination led to the formation of the supergroup, Army Of Anyone, in 2006 alongside Dean and Robert DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots and Ray Luzier of Korn, before refocusing on Filter’s output of later lauded albums, “Anthems For The Damned” (2008), “The Trouble With Angels” (2010), “The Sun Comes Out Tonight” (2013), and “Crazy Eyes” (2016). Craft Recordings and Rhino Records have been tending to the Filter legacy, recently releasing deluxe remastered editions of touchstone albums, ‘Title Of Record’ and ‘The Amalgamut.’ Now, after 20 years of sobriety and a seven-year break from his main artistic vehicle, Patrick unleashes ‘The Algorithm,’ promising a sonic revolution for fans worldwide. The fight is on. Richard Patrick has got your back: “Revolution’s on its way / Never surrender never surrender.”
