Heavy rock act RAVENSTINE is celebrating the release of their sophomore studio album, titled 2024!Available as CD Digipak, Ltd. Vinyl LP and Digital formats, the album is out now on Massacre Records at https://lnk.to/ravenstine2024
In support of record release day, the band has just shared a music video for their latest single “Fly Eagle Fly”. Guitarist and vocalist Martin Sosna comments:
“”Fly Eagle Fly” was the first song that was musically created for “2024”. John played the song to Hanno and Martin in the rehearsal room and it was obvious that it is a radio hit single. We are talking about a hit single as it was written in the famous 80’s and is hardly composed today. Easy to listen to and with a good hook line.
Lyrically, it’s about the old eagle, who shares his wisdom with a young eagle, telling him that he should not fly too high, because otherwise he will burn his wings.”
Hailing from Croatia, Germany and Ireland, RAVENSTINE was formed during the pandemic; their self-titled debut was released earlier this year. With 2024, RAVENSTINEstep it up and present themselves even more musically mature and cohesive than they did on their much-acclaimed, first full-length album. Lyrically, RAVENSTINE charge on as they began and call up various topics, some of a darker nature such as depression, or the prospect of one’s eventual demise. RAVENSTINE‘s colour-and sound-palette is broad.
2024 was recorded and mixed by band members Hanno Kerstan and John A.B.C. Smith, with a mastering by Dan Baune at Noise Foundry Productions. The stunning cover artwork was created by Frank Fiedler of Greenfeed Digital Ar.

With the release date of MADDER MORTEM “Old Eyes, New Heart”, fast approaching, Dark Essence Records have today revealed a new track from the album. Titled “Unity”, it is, according to the band:
A song about not lying to oneself, facing reality head-on and with honesty. Musically, “Unity” blends Muse-ish excess with Eastern rhythmic and melodic influences and a sing-along chorus, all wrapped in a very Madder Mortem mix of heaviness and atmosphere.
Set for release on the 26th January, “Old Eyes, New Heart” is the eighth full-length album from MADDER MORTEM, a band that has never sought to fit into any particular category, but has preferred rather to draw upon styles such as Prog and Metal, Rock and Extreme, much to the delight of their many fans.
With “Old Eyes, New Heart”, MADDER MORTEM’s lineup of Agnete M. Kirkevaag on vocals, BP M. Kirkevaag on guitar & vocals, Anders Langberg on guitars, Tormod L. Moseng on bass and Mads Solås on drums have created a work that follows many unexpected directions ranging from post-metal heaviness to soft Americana grooves and everything in between
Recorded and produced by BP M. Kirkevaag, the album is an exploration of hope, disappointment, and the ambivalence between them. It is, essentially, music that comes from old hearts and deep roots, with new eyes open to the unlimited possibilities of 12 notes. But, as always, MADDER MORTEM’s intention is to write a good, honest song. And with “Old Eyes, New Heart” they have succeeded admirably.
But it is also an album whose creation has not been without turmoil, and with it also came the heartbreak that was felt at the death of Jakob Kirkevaag, the much-loved father of band members Agnete and BP, and a man whose unfailing support has been so important to MADDER MORTEM from its very inception almost 30 years ago.
“Old Eyes, New Heart”, is, in fact, dedicated to Jakob, an artist in his own right, who sadly did not live long-enough to see or hear the finished work. However, his contribution to the band lives on, because, with the help of MADDER MORTEM’s long-time collaborator, the artist and video producer Costin Chioreanu, two of Jakob’s original paintings were adapted to form the cover art for “Old Eyes, New Heart”.
“Old Eyes, New Heart”, will be available in CD, Digital, and Limited Edition LP formats in White Vinyl (limited to 250 copies) and Blue Vinyl (limited to 250 copies), and can now be pre-ordered from:
Tracklisting on “Old Eyes, New Heart” is as follows:
Coming from the Dark
On Guard
Master Tongue
The Head that Wears the Crown
Cold Hard Rain
Unity
Towers
Here and Now
Things I’ll Never Do
Long Road
A release party for will be held at the Rockefeller / John Dee / Sentrum Scene in Oslo, Norway on the 3rd February, and fans will also be able to see MADDER MORTEM perform at this year’s Inferno Metal Festival in Oslo on Saturday 30th March.

Indietronic Rock act BROMSEN proudly presents their latest single, “Someone.” This captivating track is the 5th single taken from the upcoming album “Brothers in Mind”, scheduled for release on February 16, 2024.
Drawing inspiration from renowned songwriter Luka Bloom’s journey of self-discovery and independence, “Someone” reflects on the choice between conforming to societal expectations and embracing an authentic, adventurous life. The song’s uplifting message encourages listeners to live honestly and boldly, celebrating the essence of individuality.
BROMSEN’s “Someone” embodies the pursuit of self-realization, much like Luka Bloom’s evolution from Barry Moore to a distinguished artist in his own right. It echoes the thrill of life’s adventures and champions the courage to be true to oneself.
“America, the land of freedom and evolution, still embodies the spirit of unyielding liberty. Our visual portrayal of Richard adorned as the Statue of Liberty’s half-serious, half-parodic reflection aims to capture this essence”, states the band, offering a whimsical yet profound commentary on their creative expression.
The sonic landscape crafted by BROMSEN fuses the best elements of rock, hard rock, prog, and 80s music, forging a distinctive sonic identity that captivates the senses and transcends musical boundaries.
Bromsen, formed in Berlin, Germany, consists of Richard and Karlo Bromsen, who have known each other for more than 20 years. In the mid-2000s, they performed together with their previous band, “The Pampelmuse,” at numerous indie rock clubs in Berlin. However, the band disbanded in 2006, just before what was expected to be their breakthrough. Many years passed before Karlo and Richard decided it was time to reignite their passion for music and pursue their dreams once again.
Bromsen has made a triumphant return to the music scene, showcasing their unique blend of synth wave elements and guitars. Their distinctive sound combines a punchy wall of sound with raw and soaring vocals that compel listeners to groove along and sing along. Their first four singles have received critical acclaim from the indie press, and they have garnered airplay on indie radio stations across North America, the UK, France, Brazil, and other regions.

Multi-platinum hard rock powerhouse FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH today announced the digital deluxe edition of AFTERLIFE, their critically acclaimed ninth studio album. Set for digital release on February 9 via Better Noise Music, the deluxe version will include the original 12 tracks recorded with the band’s longtime collaborator, producer Kevin Churko (Ozzy Osbourne) in addition to four bonus tracks: three acoustic versions of the album’s songs “The End”, “Judgement Day,” and “Thanks For Asking” plus a brand new song, “This Is The Way” featuring the late rapper DMX. An official music video for This Is The Way (feat. DMX) will premiere on February 9, 2024 to coincide with the release of the digital deluxe version of AFTERLIFE.
Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Zoltan Bathory says about This Is The Way (feat. DMX): “Music is meant to be shared, and it starts at the top with us, the artists. We have always embraced the mixing of genres, whether it be the remake of LL Cool J’s“Mama Said Knock You Out” featuring Tech N9ne as a guest or our collaboration with blues warrior Kenny Wayne Shepherd, country star Brantley Gilbert, and Brian May, the legendary guitarist of Queen, on the song “Blue on Black.” The idea of collaborating with DMX had been in discussion for years, and it was a long and winding road to turn this particular item on our wish list into reality. He was a lyrical warrior, a true original who spoke his mind incorruptibly. We have always viewed DMX as “the metalhead of hip-hop” because of his aggressive, raw, and untamed style. He growled and snarled, aiming to rattle some cages – an attitude we share, as Five Finger Death Punch has always been drawn to the fearless and the real. It made all the sense in the world, but today this is more than just a song; it’s a salute to a legend, a way to honor DMX’s memory.”
Upon announcement of the digital deluxe version ofAFTERLIFE today, Five Finger Death Punch has premiered an advance listen to the previously unreleased acoustic version of “Judgement Day” which can be streamed below. The band previously partnered with Covenant House in November 2023 and released an official video for “Judgement Day” during National Runaway Prevention Month to help raise awareness about the Youth Homelessness Crisis. Finnish metal band Gothony released their long-awaited self-titled debut album on January 12th 2024 via Inverse Records. The band is founded already back in 1993 so this time there is the truth of the saying ‘Good things come to those who wait’.
The album contains the following drama metal songs :
HOLOGRAM is slower and maybe even moves somewhat in the pop world, but contains lots of melody. The song starts and ends with the seagulls of Helsinki market square. What is the meaning of seagulls?: is the past also present in the present, i.e. part of causality chains continuum or is this all just an illusion, maybe we live in a hologram…
PATIENT 2442 is a masterpiece of drama metal composed by Mika Uusitalo. When perfect drama and metal combine, the result is this. Beautiful melancholic and melodic riffs that create a soundscape of sorrow supported by drums that push the momentum forward. Vocals reflect the eternal sruggle between the light and the Dark. Guest vocalist Kata Samula‘s beautiful and powerful voice crowns the song. A journey into a mind that has lost its integrity…
ANTS is mainly composed by M. Toivonen, but Mika Uusitalo has also added his vision to it. The song is on the rougher side of Gothony’s production and is full of drama in every aspect. Although individual people – especially warlike dictators – sometimes feel that they are part of a great divine plan, on a cosmic scale we are just ants on top of each other.
IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON is the latest creation of drama metal. When the three heroes (M.Toivonen, Mika Uusitalo and Väiski Syväoja) put their heads together for the composition, you can hear a return to the atmosphere of the 90s and the rustling of wings from metal classics. The song is crowned by Wuohi’s lyrics about the search for meaning and the disappointment when the search does not yield results… A drama metal classic has been born…
MY PAIN is the first song composed after the reunion. It is composed around the riff of the song Unknown world of my Dreams, which is on the 1995 demo. Mika Uusitalo is mainly responsible for the composition, but there is couple drama riffs from Väiski Syväoja. It was an honor to have Jasmin Anglén (Ratbreed, Möckingbird) as a guest vocalist for the song. She if anyone sheds new light on this riff from the 1995 demo. It’s pointless to look for light in Wuohi lyrics, they tell a tale about the pain that overwhelms a person, leaving behind only agony and anguish.
CRYSTAL DREAM APOPHIS has been re-recorded in its almost original form from the 1997 “Hidden thoughts” demo. This drama metal classic was created by M.Toivonen, both in terms of composition and lyrics, at the age of 17 in 1997. The song was updated to a slightly more modern 2023 version, but its basic structure and riffs are allmost the same.
Quoting Jouko Piho, “I believe that it is about something mentioned in Revelations chapter 8, verses 8-11, about something plunging into the sea, which is as big as a mountain, and about a big star falling from the sky and burning like a torch called Wormwood.”
DISARM THE GODS started with Väiski Syväoja’s bass riff, around which Mika Uusitalo created a chorus and a melancholic frame. In the song, you can even sense Finnish schlager / instrumental rock : that’s why the working name was Sorsakoski.
Wuohi lyrics are not related to the Finnish schlager, but deal with how religion is weaponized to achieve one’s own goals.
RAPACITY Took quite a while until it found its way into a finished drama metal product. M. Toivonen, Mika Uusitalo and Miika Peräkangas are responsible for the composition of the song. The melodic and harsh riffs of the song reflect images of climate change and the destructive chaos caused by greed.
