DANIELE BRUSASCHETTO is back to bewitch your senses with his latest masterpiece, the “Alla Luna” music video.
“Alla Luna” is a lyrical ode to the moon, and it’s a track taken from his recent album “Bruise A Shadow,” available via Wormholedeath.
“Alla Luna” is a romantic song dedicated to the Moon. We, tiny little dots of flesh and blood, have always been enchanted and seduced by your parading every night in a different dress”.
With over thirty years of influencing the obscure scene in Turin, Italy, Daniele Brusaschetto continues his exploration of the multifaceted city with his distinct sonic signature. The new album extends the themes of the former Flying Stag project, delving even deeper into the fiery lineage of Voivod, Godflesh, and early Mastodon. Comprising tracks composed over the past five years, the album embraces themes of existentialism, melancholy, daily apocalypses, nonsense, delirium, and irony. This sonic journey incorporates the essence of new/no wave, with sudden melodies emerging like an emotional industry breaking through the guitar-heavy soundscape.
The Download Festival in England has a long-standing reputation for featuring legendary bands over the years, including acts like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Rammstein, and Black Sabbath to name a few. With over 110,000 attendees annually, the festival stands as the largest rock and metal festival in the United Kingdom.
November 7th, 9 PM, UK Time the first artist announcements for 2024 came, and shows an impressive lineup featuring names such as Queens of the Stone Age, Fall Out Boy, Sum 41, Pantera and Avenged Sevenfold. Among the massive names there’s a remarkable addition – 14-year-old Norwegian Leo Davadi Sundli, known by his stage name, STORM who shares his excitement:
“The fact that I’m actually going to perform at Download Festival is incredibly surreal for me. I’ve always dreamed of just being at this festival to see my favorite bands, and now I’m going to perform there myself. It’s mind-blowing, and I’m incredibly excited. We’re going to work so hard in the coming months to make this performance the best we’ve ever done! This is so big that I’ve barely had time to imagine it could happen!”
This won’t be STORM’s first time on a big stage, as he already made appearances at the German metal festival, Summer Breeze Open Air, in 2022 and Norway’s largest festival, Tons of Rock, in 2023. If that wasn’t enough, he recently completed a tour across Norway with Gåte after two concerts at the Norwegian show case festival By:larm. It was precisely at By:larm that Promoter Kamran Haq from the Download Festival discovered STORM:
“I was blown away seeing STORM at By:larm; I knew right away that we needed to book him to play Download Festival. We can’t wait to have him in the UK next year.”
STORM has undeniably had an impressive and remarkable start to his career and with that he has gained over 16,000 followers on TikTok already. With legendary festivals and new music on the horizon, it’s safe to say this is just the beginning for this young rising star.
Jimmy Kay and Alan Dixon of The Metal Voice recently spoke to Blackie Lawless of W.A.S.P. in a multi part series interview.
In part 3 Blackie discusses his religious convictions and songs, friendship with Ex-Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley and the use of backing tracks live.
Do you struggle with your religious convictions and the songs of your past “No, that’s all part of the growth period. Everybody does that. Anybody that really comes to Faith, it’s just all part of the growth process. It gives you contrast and I don’t mean to go into a Biblical analogy here but you’re literally going from the dark to the light but that creates that contrast. And from a writing perspective it really is a kind of a cool thing because it gives you a different way of looking at things. It enables me to get into more in-depth ideas. As a songwriter how many times and how long can you write songs about your girlfriend’s red high heel shoes before it starts to get a little mundane. It’s nice to have a fresh perspective. “
When asked about his connection with Ace Frehley of Kiss in his early years “We were just kids, I met him right around the time the band got started. It was just one of those things, more of a meeting of the minds. And you develop a friendship because they’re kindred spirits. So it was really no more than that. And we’ve been able to maintain that friendship for many many years.”
Then asked if they in the same gang together “No, let’s put it this way. I can remember him and I collecting Coke bottles to cash in for deposits and going and buying .25 cent beers at happy hours. So that gives you an idea how far it goes back.”
When asked if he is getting tired people asking him about W.A.S.P. using backing tracks live No. The conclusion that I came to was this. Up until about five years ago we did everything. It was literally a four-piece band. What you heard is what you got. And I came to the conclusion that when we did the anniversary tour for the Crimson Idol, we then brought in all that orchestration and I stood in the middle of the room and I listened to that in rehearsal for the first time and it was like an out-of- body experience. I mean it was unbelievable. And I remember thinking I’ve never heard this sound like this other than the record and I thought this is what I want to do from now on. I want this. I want it to sound exactly like the record. If you listen to a record like ‘Live at Leeds’ The Who. That’s a rock band doing a three-piece musical version of Tommy or some of the other earlier songs. It’s great for what it is but it doesn’t sound like Tommy. What they do now with all the pieces that they take out, those performances sound like the record. So you have to make a decision as an artist what do you want that performance to sound like? Now as a singer, I take a lot of pride in what I do. When you’ve been given a gift like I’ve been given most singers I know want to show that thing off and I’m no different. So yeah, that’s me singing out there but as far as any other Orchestra tracks or backing vocal tracks, I’m sorry there’s just not enough of us on stage to make it sound like that record it’s impossible. So again, the artist has to make the decision of what they want to sound like when they go out. And from that first time, like I said I, stood in the middle of the room and I listened to that orchestration, it blew me away and I thought this is what I’m doing from here on out.”
When asked about the meaning of half speed on the new W.A.S.P. The 7 Savage Box set “Well when they do half speed Masters that’s what we use to make the Press copies from in the factory. So in other words it is the closest thing to the original recording you’re ever going to hear. It’s the final product that we make that goes from the multitrack down to what’s called a half inch master and it’s a pristine copy.”
W.A.S.P. announce ‘The 7 Savage: 1984-1992’ deluxe 8LP boxset from their ‘Capitol Years’, with studio album half-speed mastering, LP of bonus tracks, 60 page book, posters and numbered certificate. The 7 Savage: 1984-1992 will be released Friday 27th October 2023 on Madfish and is strictly limited to 2000 copies worldwide.
Compiled with the full cooperation of Blackie Lawless, the box set also includes a 60-page book with exclusive and rare pictures from legendary metal photographers (including Ross Halfin, Tony Mottram, David Plastik and Paul Natkin), along with extensive liner notes from Amit Sharma (Kerrang!, Planet Rock). Austin, Texas based melodic death metal band-to-watch HINAYANA will release their massive sophomore full-length album, Shatter And Fall, this Friday, November 10, 2023 via Napalm Records.
Following their stunning recent singles “Reverse The Code” and “Triptych Visions”, HINAYANA have released their third new single,“A Tide Unturning”, featuring guest vocal contributions from Tuomas Saukkonen of WOLFHEART. The track shines as one of the most brutalizing yet pensive metal ballads of 2023, as flowing melodies and deep resonating guitars surround the crushing voices of Saukkonen and frontman Casey Hurd.
In 2018, HINAYANA first ensnared the masses with their self-released debut, Order Divine, and later defied the pandemic with their subsequent 2020 release, the Death Of The Cosmic EP. Produced by frontman Casey Hurd and Kevin Butler with mastering by Dan Swanö at Unisound, upcoming Shatter And Fall serves as a darker, more solemn work in comparison to their previous releases, yet superior without question in songwriting, technicality and cohesiveness. Shatter And Fall also features guest contributions from melodic death metal purveyors and labelmates Tuomas Saukkonen of WOLFHEART and Vincent Jackson Jones of AETHER REALM.
Setting them apart from contemporaries like Insomnium, Amorphis and Swallow the Sun, Shatter And Fall blends modern, accessible elements with equal parts melody and menace, emerging as a fresh entry in this year’s most head-turning metal offerings.
Frontman Casey Hurd says about the album: “Shatter And Fall is about Karma, one’s own fate, consequences, grief about our own actions, depression, loss of faith, yin and yang, light and dark, and our own unchanging nature as humans. It’s darker, heavier, and more diverse than our previous releases. We’re evolving and expanding on our sound to include more catchy and anthemic elements in addition to the darker, heavier material. This new album is a significant milestone for HINAYANA.”
Introductory track “Slowly Light Collides” opens the heavy gates of Shatter And Fall without hesitation, setting the stage for its impending intensity with a potent mixture of headbang-inducing heaviness and hair-raising melodies and harmonies. Second track “Mind Is A Shadow”, featuring guest vocals from Vincent Jackson Jones of fellow American melodic death metal frontrunners AETHER REALM, hits equally hard with a gripping, chunky verse riff and searing chorus. Frontman Casey Hurd’s deep growls juxtapose effortlessly with Jones’s skyscraper screams before a seizing solo from Erik Shtaygrud marks the track’s apex. Anthems like “How Many Dreams”, “The Answer” and enthralling groove machine “Reverse The Code” – the latter boasting one of the album’s most flourishing closer passages – march further into the icy depths, proving Shatter And Fall as a multifaceted melodeath record.
Powerful “Spirit And Matter” and somber yet essential, spine-tingling “Triptych Visions” feature some of the album’s most melancholic and introspective moments, traversing expansive peaks and valleys of deep metallic intensity and some of the album’s most delicate, acoustic-driven moments. The implementation of diverse styles, showcased by the varied instrumentation and intensity of songs like touching interlude “From Our Darkest Moments”, versus massive, crushing sonic saga “Lost To Flame”, poise the band for undeniable recognition. All-consuming single “A Tide Unturning”, featuring guest vocal contributions from Tuomas Saukkonen of Finnish melodic death icons WOLFHEART, shines as the most desolate summit of Shatter And Fall, serving as one of the most brutalizing yet pensive ballads of 2023. The album ends on the grimmest note of all with blackened closer “Taken”, a re-recorded, renewed look back at a track originally released on the band’s 2014 demo Endless – marking an apt finish to a contemplative, emotional album tangling with themes of fate, grief and inevitable consequence.
Shatter And Fall track listing: 1. Slowly Light Collides 2. Mind Is A Shadow (feat. Vincent Jackson Jones) 3. How Many Dreams 4. Spirit And Matter 5. From Our Darkest Moments 6. Reverse The Code 7. Lost To Flame 8. The Answer 9. Triptych Visions 10. A Tide Unturning (feat. Tuomas Saukkonen) 11. Taken
