Legendary Psych-Rockers GONG celebrate the release of their long awaited new album Unending Ascending with ‘My Guitar Is A Spaceship’ and what can only be described as the essence of Gong in visual form.
‘My Guitar Is A Spaceship’ was the first to be written for the new album as Kavus Torabi explains “The song came into being in the spring of 2022 and we actually debuted it on the Glade Stage at Glastonbury Festival that summer. It was the first song we wrote for the new album. More than anything we’ve done together, it seemed to pop out fully formed. That morning none of it existed and then an hour later all of it did.” He continues: “I don’t think we were even trying to write a tune at that point! What a feeling, we sort of couldn’t believe we came up with it. I said “Man, can you imagine debuting this song at Glastonbury festival?”. Sure enough, two days later we received a message asking us if we’d like to headline the Glade Stage that year. At this point the existence of magic is not even up for debate. The tune is just one propulsive, cycling riff that seems to blast us and the audience upward, hence the lyrics, from which we took the title of the album. Once we’d written this, we knew the rest of the album would be great, it kind of defined the direction we would take as we wrote the remaining seven songs. I honestly can’t conceive of a Gong gig, moving forward, where we don’t play it.”
About Gong:
The universe of Gong began in 1969 when Daevid Allen was inspired by a profound psychedelic vision. A founder member of Soft Machine, Allen incorporated his spiritual and metaphysical leanings into an evolving collective. More a mythology than a band in the conventional sense, Gong established itself as one of the most unique, innovative and experimental rock groups of the seventies, through an exploratory mix of rock, jazz and psychedelia with elements of mysticism and surrealism, unafraid to deliver its messages directly, obliquely or whimsically. The current incarnation, who were put together by Daevid after his swansong album with Gong, ‘I See You’, honour his intention that Gong do not die with him, urging the band to “carry it on into new unknown heights and depths far beyond anything I could ever imagine myself”.
The collective of Kavus Torabi, Dave Sturt, Fabio Golfetti, Ian East and Cheb Nettles is the most stable in Gong‘s illustrious history, having written, recorded and toured together for eight years since Allen‘s passing. A dynamic, powerful and explosive live band, their music draws from the credo of the original Gong while remaining committed to pushing the composition, performances and message into new realms, paying no mind to nostalgia. Gong in 2023 continue the ethics, attitude and lifestyle that was always woven into the fabric of the band.
Unending Ascending tracklisting:
1 Tiny Galaxies 2 My Guitar is a Spaceship 3 Ship Of Ishtar 4 O Arcturus 5 All Clocks Reset 6 Choose Your Goddess 7 Lunar Invocation 8 Asleep Do We Lay

The new live album, Die In Fire – Live In Hell, by ruthless Swedish black metal collective WATAIN is out today through Nuclear Blast Records.
After 25 years of madness and mayhem that manifested in seven studio albums, WATAIN‘s intense and much talked-about live rituals remain in a league of their own. Experience the raw power and fiery precision captured perfectly on this live recording from a sold out show that took place in October 2022 in Stockholm, and features fan favourites from albums such as Casus Luciferi, Lawless Darkness, The Wild Hunt, Trident Wolf Eclipse and of course the band’s latest offering, The Agony And Ecstasy of Watain, as well as the BATHORY cover ‘The Return Of Darkness And Evil’. The audio was recorded by Jamie Elton and mastered by Tore Stjerna at Necromorbus Studio.
With all artwork created by vocalist and front man Erik Danielsson, Die in Fire – Live in Hell is not only a sonic but also a visual reflection of WATAIN’s touring cycle for The Agony & Ecstasy of Watain, and beyond that a symbol of gratitude for their loyal followers worldwide! Die in Fire – Live in Hell is a very personal release dedicated to all those who have joined WATAIN on their path of lawless black metal darkness during the past 25 years.
Erik Danielsson (vocals) commented: ”With the videos for the live album we have attempted to convey at least a fraction of the primal psychedelic malevolence that possess us when we perform. The majority of the footage is from the same concert in Stockholm at which the album was recorded. It was then slaughtered and remolded by the skilled and manic artists credited at the end of the video. Turn off your mind, shut out the modern world and dissappear into these analogue nightmare visions of darkness and ecstasy.”
Coinciding with the release, WATAIN will play two very special anniversary shows at UKK in their hometown Uppsala on Friday, November 3rd and Saturday, November 4th. The first night was sold out within minutes, so a second one was added and very few tickets are still available here: https://secure.tickster.com/sv/8ttcd34a5687cc9/selectproductgroup
The wait is over! New York death metal legends SUFFOCATION unleash their ninth full-length album Hymns From The Apocrypha via Nuclear Blast.
The band offers fans the third track ‘Delusions of Mortality’ which combines progressive melodies and Ricky Myer’s monstrous vocals. Check out the 3D lyric video created by Tamara of Aimed & Framed.
SUFFOCATION’s Ricky Myers comments, “‘Delusions of Mortality’ is the third single off our new album HYMNS FROM THE APOCRYPHA. The lyrical content pertains to these dimensional beings granting us ancient scriptures scribed of our true origin, purpose, and the reason why humanity was created. Revealing knowledge that is too much for man to comprehend but at the same time, it allows mankind to remove the veil and see the truth. This existence is nothing but a delusion.”
SUFFOCATION took about a month and a half to record Hymns from the Apocrypha. They holed up at Hobbs and Boyer’s InLine Studio in Long Island. The duo engineered and co-produced with Christian Donaldson (BENEATH THE MASSACRE, INGESTED), who was also re-enlisted to mix and master, with Dominic Grimard (CRYPTOPSY, SHADOW OF INTENT) assisting. With stunning cover art by Greek illustrator Giannis Nakos of Remedy Art Design (VOMITORY, THE CROWN), Hymns from the Apocrypha is characteristically SUFFOCATION. It’s uncompromisingly brutal, artistically gutsy, and aurally heavy. Clearly, SUFFOCATION, as they head into their 35th Anniversary, are at the peak of their potential. Death metal or die!
In addition, SUFFOCATION announced their extensive ‘Hymns From The Apocrypha European Tour 2024’ with SANGUISUGABOGG, ENTERPRISE EARTH, and ORGANECTOMY. The 31-date trek kicks off on January 24th in Dortmund and will make stops in Barcelona, Vienna, and Copenhagen before concluding in Antwerp on February 25th.
Terrance Hobbs states, “We’re beyond excited to see you all again for the ‘Hymns From The Apocrypha European Tour 2024’. We have a STACKED lineup for this one featuring the awesome SANGUISUSIBOGG, our friends ENTERPRISE EARTH, and the crushing ORGANECTOMY!! We’re coming to mash you into the dirt and drop some serious American Death Metal for your ears – hope to see all you death metal slam-infested freaks in the pit!”
