Metal titans UNEARTH have left their undeniable mark on heavy metal history through their relentless determination to deliver indisputable classics with every album. Now, 25 years into their career, the Boston bruisers’ legacy has never been more evident than on their most recent release, The Wretched, The Ruinous, which can be purchased HERE.
“The Wretched; The Ruinous is about the eight billion people on this planet,” describes vocalist Trevor Phipps. “We’ve created a man-made mass extinction event and have been too slow to correct our faults. Extreme weather, drought, famine, disease, erosion of land, culture wars, civil wars, wars for natural resources, and the displacement of billions of people, is all a current reality. This isn’t a future problem; it is a now problem and I take this record to talk about it.”
InsideOutMusic is delighted to announce that it has signed BIG BIG TRAIN to a multi-album deal for new studio releases. The band are currently working on a new studio album, expected to be released in spring 2024, and have recently been recording in Trieste, Italy, where lead vocalist Alberto Bravin is based. Big Big Train bassist/founder Gregory Spawton comments: “We have ambitious plans for Big Big Train and are very pleased to have signed this deal with InsideOut.
Having run our own record label, English Electric Recordings, for a lengthy period, it’s clear that the music industry has changed enormously in recent years and we believe that we are best positioned to grow BBT further by becoming an InsideOut band. Over the last decade we had received offers from various labels. When we considered the different options, signing up with the premier label for progressive music was the logical choice. We’re very excited about this new era for the band and working with InsideOut/Sony.”
IMPURE WILHELMINA are now releasing the first new track of their upcoming EP “Dead Decades”, which is set for worldwide release on October 6th, 2023 via Season of Mist. The record features three covers and two previously unreleased tracks taken from the recording session for their latest album “Antidote”. ‘La Javanaise’ comes in the form of an artistic music video which can now be viewed via the official Season of Mist YouTube channel HERE.
The band comments: “As soon as we thought about doing covers, this song came to mind. Serge Gainsbourg, one of the major figures of twentieth-century French music, has been around us for a very long time, even if his musical universe is far removed from our own. La Javanaise is one of his greatest (and least subversive) classics, published in 1963. This heavy cover of a song written before metal even existed contrasts with the light-hearted romanticism of the lyrics. It fits perfectly with the spirit of Impure Wilhelmina. For the video, we used archive footage of Paris in the 1960s to match the atmosphere. The whole thing was beautifully edited by Guilherme Henriques and the result is stunning!“
“Dead Decades” is now available for pre-order in various formats HERE.

For 25 years, Impure Wilhelmina has been shaping a singular music on the borders of rock and metal. The Geneva quartet has never been afraid to reinvent itself and to push back the stylistic barriers, without ever losing its strong identity. Intensity, melody, power and melancholy are the key words that guide the band’s discography, developing record after record a subtle blend of metal, post-hardcore, new wave and indie rock sounds.
Impure Wilhelmina has experienced many line-up changes over the years around Michael Schindl, singer-guitarist, main composer and lyricist. Founded in 1996, the group quickly built a reputation in the local, then Swiss and European independent scenes. The band has released a 7″, an EP, a split and seven full-length albums (see discography).
Impure Wilhelmina has regularly collaborated with sound engineers and producers Serge Morattel (I Can’t Believe I Was Born In July – 2001, L’Amour, La Mort, L’Enfance Perdue – 2004, Prayers And Arsons – 2008) and Raphaël Bovey (Black Honey – 2014, Radiation – 2017). These five albums illustrate the constant musical evolution of the band, which from a very dark and metal base gradually incorporates more rock elements. The clear vocals occupy an increasingly important place in the compositions, reinforcing the intensity and melodic depth.
In 2015, thanks to the great response to Black Honey, Impure Wilhelmina signed with the reference metal label Season of Mist, which published Radiation two years later in 2017. Skillfully navigating between melodies and dissonances, always at the service of raw emotion, this sixth album was unanimously acclaimed by the press and the public, opening the doors to wider recognition.
In 2019, the band received great reward by being one of the four recipients of the grants for contemporary music awarded by the City of Geneva. This support has enabled Impure Wilhelmina to start working on a new album with confidence and with the will to develop their sound and get out of their comfort zone. The band put a lot of efforts in the elaboration and production of its new songs, notably by calling on Yvan Bing, producer and sound engineer, to accompany the four musicians throughout the creation process. This successful collaboration began in the summer of 2019 and continued for over a year, giving rise to Impure Wilhelmina’s seventh album, Antidote. Released in may 2021, this album is a testament to the creativity and versatility of the band, which never ceases to explore new horizons without ever getting lost.
After two European tours in 2022 (with Crippled Black Phoenix and MØL, then Shores of Null), Impure Wilhelmina focused in 2023 on the vinyl reissue of their second album “I can’t believe I was born in July”, for its 20th anniversary, and the release of a new EP entitled “Dead Decades”, which features three covers and two previously unreleased tracks.

Finnish Helsinki-based progressive melodic rockers DARKNESS IS MY CANVAS are set to release their new EP ‘White Noise’ later in 2023 via Inverse Records. The third single ‘Inverted’ from the upcoming EP is released today.
Musically, Inverted is DIMC’s tribute to the progressive rock of the ’70s, topped with elements from the EMO bands of the 2010s. Melody-wise, this song is one of our most versatile ones, and the audience just can’t get enough of it during our live performances.
The lyrics are about insomnia and what lack of sleep does to a person. We’ve always been interested in making songs in different ways and trying different approaches. With Inverted, the audience can hear a marriage between Jethro Tull and My Chemical Romance. The guitar solo is epic, of course, and during the solo, we even step onto Jazz’s toes. We’ve always thought that creatively “nothing is too much” for us, as we want to do this from our perspective and desire.”
Darkness Is My Canvas (DIMC) was founded in Helsinki in 2017. The band plays melodic rock combined with progressive elements, stylistically influenced by bands such as Muse, Queen, Pink Floyd, Leprous, and on occasion also Porcupine Tree and My Chemical Romance. Their catchy melodies have many musical hooks, and the band likes to throw curve balls at the audience by changing time and style mid-song – and they do this completely intentionally. The imaginative sound of DIMC wells up from the melody-rich guitar playing of Panu and the voice of Pete, who, some say, sounds like the young David Bowie.
All the songs of DIMC come from the mind and pen of Pete and Panu, who are also the “founding fathers” of the band. They also play all the other instruments in the studio beside the drums, which are trusted to some of the top drummers in Finland. The mastering is done by none other than Grammy Award winner Nicolas Fournier (LA) who’s had his hands on many recordings by many of the band’s idols (Muse, Linkin Park, Adam Lambert, etc.).
DIMC was founded on what was left from the previous band of multi-instrumentalist Panu and lead singer/guitarist Pete. It was called May:Day, and it represented some sort of an amalgamation of Finnish progressive rock of the 70s and more modern Finnish rock music. Should someone want to listen to their album “I”, they will find it by digging through the Internet, as it has not been officially released. DIMC needed to distinguish themselves from the previous band as they changed their language from Finnish to English and their style became more nuanced.
To date, DIMC has released one EP called “Monsters” and one single called “The Game”. Also couple of singles ‘Fade Into The White Noise’ & Drown is released from the upcoming White Noise EP. Their songs have been listened quite nicely from streaming services such as Spotify, in which the counter reached 160 000 this July.
Stockholm, Sweden’s XORSIST are today premiering their new single, Coterie of the Depraved, via Decibel. Coterie of the Depraved is the second track to be taken from the death metal group’s forthcoming sophomore album, At the Somber Steps to Serenity, which is due for release via Prosthetic Records on October 6.
Speaking on the premiere, XORSIST comments: “Offering another kind of intensity compared to our first single, Blessed by the Divine, Coterie of the Depraved had a slightly different approach. Through vivid imagery, metaphorical lyricism and emotional depth, it draws listeners into a world of introspection. The consistent rhythm combined with mesmerizing rawness create a musical tapestry that lingers in the mind. With its uncompromising exploration of the battle between conformity and personal truth, it works as a compelling continuation to the profound musical odyssey that awaits within At the Somber Steps To Serenity“
Following their self-released debut album Deadly Possession in 2022, XORSIST caught the attention of the Prosthetic Records with their old school approach to and affinity for Sweden’s death metal legacy and history. Founded by Gustav Ryderfelt (vocals and guitar) before cementing their line-up with both Birk Castenmalm (vocals and bass) and Alphonse Bouquelon (drums), XORSIST’s core sound is one rooted in deep reverence for the genre’s roots as much as it is a spirited progression of the raw and uncompromising Stockholm sound.
Seeking to continue their working relationship with the legendary Sunlight Studios (Dismember, At The Gates, Entombed, Grave and more), XORSIST once again opted to retain Tomas Skogsberg on co-production duties with Iñaki Marconi (Soen, Sepultura, Carcass). XORSIST’s proclivity for musical tradition is not mere homage so much as it is a graceful carrying of the genre’s torch. Having built up a glowing reputation in the Swedish underground by fans new and old, At the Somber Steps to Serenity sees the young band ensure the old school Swedish death metal torch continues to burn brighter than before for the fabled city in which they reside.
At the Somber Steps to Serenity tracklist: 1. A Life in Vain 2. Carve It Out 3. Blessed By The Divine 4. Imitation 5. Coterie of the Depraved 6. Banished to Obscurity 7. Distorted Shapes 8. Grace 9. Darkened Wings 10. At the Somber Steps to Serenity
