Witness the power of Ameliorate through the official music video for “Pain!”:
AMELIORATE is the brainchild of Bulgarian musician Borislav Zahariev, who founded the project in October 2022. With a rich history in the Bulgarian metal scene, Zahariev has shared stages with various bands until 2018. Following an unsuccessful stint in a band, Zahariev decided to embark on his solo journey, crafting Ameliorate with the vision of inspiring others through the power of music. The project swiftly gained momentum, resulting in the release of the “Demons” EP in February 2023, featuring five of the seven songs he recorded in a remarkable three-month timespan. Now, armed with a full-length album, “Master, Master!” due to be unveiled on August 25th, 2023, Ameliorate seeks to conquer the rock stages and captivate the hearts of metal enthusiasts worldwide.

Stockholm, Sweden’s XORSIST have announced their signing to Prosthetic Records, accompanying the signing announcement XORSIST has also shared plans to release their second album, At the Somber Steps to Serenity, on October 6. At the Somber Steps to Serenity’s lead single, Blessed By The Divine, is available to stream on all streaming platforms now.
Speaking on the signing and album announcement, XORSIST comments: “A new chapter begins. We are thrilled to announce the imminent release of our second full length album, At the Somber Steps to Serenity, under the renowned banner of Prosthetic Records. We are very excited to be joining forces with them, and we cannot wait to show you what we have been working on.”
On Blessed By The Divine‘s release, the group adds: “Having our second album officially announced, nothing represents our new sound and musical direction more than this first single. Featuring dual vocals performed by both Gustav and Birk, accompanied by our new drummer Alphonse, this track brings a new twist to the XORSIST discography.”
Following their self-released debut album Deadly Possession in 2022, XORSIST caught the attention of the Prosthetic Records with their old school approach to and affinity for Sweden’s death metal legacy and history. Founded by Gustav Ryderfelt (vocals and guitar) before cementing their line-up with both Birk Castenmalm (vocals and bass) and Alphonse Bouquelon (drums), XORSIST’s core sound is one rooted in deep reverence for the genre’s roots as much as it is a spirited progression of the raw and uncompromising Stockholm sound.
Seeking to continue their working relationship with the legendary Sunlight Studios (Dismember, At The Gates, Entombed, Grave and more), XORSIST once again opted to retain Tomas Skogsberg on co-production duties with Iñaki Marconi (Soen, Sepultura, Carcass). XORSIST’s proclivity for musical tradition is not mere homage so much as it is a graceful carrying of the genre’s torch. Having built up a glowing reputation in the Swedish underground by fans new and old, At the Somber Steps to Serenity sees the young band ensure the old school Swedish death metal torch continues to burn brighter than before for the fabled city in which they reside.
At the Somber Steps to Serenity tracklist: 1. A Life in Vain 2. Carve It Out 3. Blessed By The Divine 4. Imitation 5. Coterie of the Depraved 6. Banished to Obscurity 7. Distorted Shapes 8. Grace 9. Darkened Wings 10. At the Somber Steps to Serenity
”Drums Of War” may very well be the heaviest and darkest song of the new BLINDSTONE album, “Scars To Remember”. It is obvious what the new single from the Danish blues rock power trio is about, and why it was written. Martin wrote the music for the song, right around the time the war in Ukraine broke out, and the lyrics were written, in collaboration with Peter Svensson (Gauntlet Rule, Assassin’s Blade) shortly after.
“It is a song about how ordinary people may experience the threat of war against their country, and the fears and insecurities that present themselves, when the war becomes reality”, Martin says.
Apart from Blindstone themselves, the song also features Xenius Jepsen Andersen, Martin’s youngest son, on additional drums.
Today, Metal Shock Finland has a pleasure to premiere the ”Drums Of War” lyric video for Finland, enjoy it below.
Blindstone is proud to announce the new album ”Scars To Remember”. After being the best-kept secret within the heavy side of blues rock, as part of the “closed” blues scene for two decades, the band is now moving to Mighty Music and finally getting the recognition they deserve.
”Scars To Remember” is the tenth album from the Danish-based blues power trio, which has its stylistic roots in the late ’60s and ’70s, with inspiration from bands/artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Robin Trower, Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and others.
Formed more than two decades ago and having played countless shows in those years, Blindstone hit it hard in the US, due to their sound, and released most of their albums on the American label Grooveyard Records. Despite the long run, the band saw a turning point in their career when, in 2020, they were hired as the backing band for the blues legend Walter Trout, for a series of successful concerts around Denmark. This experience was a factor in inspiring the band to seek a slightly more direct and basic stylistic approach on their new album. The blues influence is particularly obvious in songs such as ”Down For The Count”, ”Waste Your Time” and ”World Weary Blues”.
Blindstone has always worn its influences on its sleeves, and ”Scars To Remember” does indeed contain obvious tips of the hat to influences such as Jimi Hendrix, Robin Trower, Trout, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Gales, Jeff Healey, and others.
As always with Blindstone, Andersen’s guitar work is a focal point, as is the tight ensemble playing of the band – for example, the instrumental ”The Fields Of Bethel” comes to mind – but the band’s lyrical universe has reached new levels of seriousness and depth in the band’s new collaboration with Swedish lyricist Peter Svensson, who contributed lyrics to a large part of the album. The major concerns of recent years, with a global pandemic and war in Europe, have led the band’s lyrics in a more serious, soul-searching direction, as illustrated by songs like ”A Scar To Remember”, ”Drums Of War” and ”Drifting Away”. In other words, there are no stripper poles, hot-rodded cars, or silver dollar coins to be found in the lyrics, this time around.
”Scars To Remember” is a strong entry in Blindstone’s extensive discography, and should appeal to fans of the band’s previous releases, the aforementioned artists, and fans of heavy, blues-based rock in general.
“Scars To Remember” will be released on CD and digital formats via Mighty Music on August 11th, 2023.
BLACK STONE CHERRY bring another taster of their eighth studio album, ‘Screamin’ At The Sky’ with the release of the album’s title track and an accompanying lyric video.
‘Screamin’ At The Sky’ is set for release on Friday 29th September via Mascot Records. The opus will be available on white solid vinyl, a limited-edition deluxe vinyl boxset, CD and digital formats and is available to pre-order here.
BSC frontman/guitarist Chris Robertson explains the new album’s opening song as follows:
“Much like most BSC songs, the music was written first and it set the tempo. We envisioned standing around a bonfire and just letting go of everything, throwing your problems into the cosmos and letting them be what they are. It starts the album off exactly how we wanted, right off the bat, in your face.”
The Kentucky-based band, featuring Chris Robertson (lead vox/guitar), Ben Wells (guitar/bkg vox), drummer John-Fred Young (drums/bkg vox) and ‘new’ bassist, Steve Jewell Jr. (ex-Otis) are also returning to the UK to celebrate the album release by meeting and signing for their loyal Cherryheads at eight special in-store appearances, as well as playing a string of ‘already sold-out’ intimate shows at small capacity venues around the country.
BLACK STONE CHERRY tell us:
“UK, we just can’t stay away from you for long!! We are beyond thrilled to return this September to celebrate the release of our brand new album, ‘Screamin’ At The Sky’ with you and play some super badass intimate shows. We love the opportunity to step on to any stage, and these shows will certainly be ones to remember. Upclose. Personal. Old school. We absolutely cannot freakin’ wait!”
In recent months, the boys have dropped two other tracks from ‘Screamin’ At The Sky.’ Check out the video for ‘Nervous’here and ‘Out of Pocket’here.
‘Screamin’ At The Sky’ features all-new material written collaboratively while on tour, but when it came time to record, BSC decided to try something it’s always dreamed of doing: tracking an album at The Plaza Theater in Glasgow, Kentucky – a legendary 1020-seat venue built in 1934 that boasts meticulous acoustics. “Every time we played the Plaza we wondered what it would sound like to record drums there. We finally decided to put all our eggs in one basket,” Chris says. In June of 2022, the band rented the whole place, brought in all its recording equipment and its trusty engineer, Jordan Westfall. They set up the basement as the control room and the stage as the live drum room. Time between recording sessions and incredible room ambience have resulted in a career high watermark for BSC.

BLACK STONE CHERRY’s last album, ‘The Human Condition’, released in October 2020 was their sixth consecutive No. 1 debut on the UK Rock Albums chart. The album’s lead single, ‘Again’ was the band’s biggest single in over 10 years in America, peaking at #15, and their highest charting record ever in Canada, landing in the Top 15. The album racked-up 50 million streams worldwide. Over the years, BSC has both headlined and rocked 12,000-cap arena shows and shared the stage with a wide range of superstars, including Alter Bridge, Def Leppard, Gov’t Mule, Nickelback, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bad Company, Mötorhead, Halestorm, Stone Temple Pilots, The Darkness, and ZZ Top. In 2018, BSC performed in front of 100,000 people at the Download Festival as main support to Guns N’ Roses and in 2021, the band played the venerated Royal Albert Hall, immortalized on 2022’s live DVD ‘Live From The Royal Albert Hall…Y’All’.
FEUERSCHWANZ have released the flaming hot single “SGFRD Dragonslayer” off of their upcoming album, Fegefeuer! While gearing up to unleash their new record on July 21, 2023, FEUERSCHWANZ have played an almost sold-out tour this spring, secured several premium slots at massive summer festivals (including co-headlining at Rock Harz today!), and continue to gain millions upon millions of streams and video views. There is no doubt that this band is at the top of the German metal scene.
On “SGFRD Dragonslayer”, lyrical references to the legendary Siegfried Dragonslayer combine with heavy riffing and Nordic mythology. The blazing official music video flawlessly supports the storyline of the track and is executed in true FEUERSCHWANZ style.
FEUERSCHWANZ on the new single: “The Siegfried saga is an ancient Nordic myth that has moved and inspired people through the centuries. Man against monster, David against Goliath, a theme where fantasy and reality meet again and again. We let the dragon loose on you – Wagner was yesterday, Metal is today!“
After charting at #1 on the Official German Album Charts with their latest studio album, Memento Mori, FEUERSCHWANZ will release its successor, Fegefeuer, on July 21.
Formed in 2004, the band has gradually shifted from their roots in comedic medieval folk into a much more serious direction. With the switch to Napalm Records ahead of the release of Das Elfte Gebot (2020), FEUERSCHWANZ set their sights entirely on metal – soon becoming one of the most relevant German bands in the genre today. The band’s enormously successful previous album of original music, Memento Mori (2021), even stormed the official German charts, peaking at #1. On Fegefeuer, FEUERSCHWANZ spice up their medieval inspired folk metal with true heavy metal influences!
Fegefeuer kicks off with outstanding opening track “SGFRD Dragonslayer”. Successor “Bastard von Asgard” features beautiful vocals by Eluveitie’s Fabienne Erni. The catchy viking party anthem “Berzerkermode” calls for the listener to join the celebration and “party like a viking”, while the first three tracks, as well as heavy “Highlander”, are best proof of the band’s evolution from comedy rock to metal. Other tracks like the intense title track “Fegefeuer”, Lord of the Rings battlechant “Uruk-Hai” and “Die Horde” will be long-time fan favorites.
Fegefeuer stays lyrically true to trademark topics, exploring long forgotten legends and heroic battles, and shows off the band’s extraordinary musical skills. The album will be available in various formats, with some containing the live bonus album Live in Wacken 2022, which includes a recording of their co-headline show from the holy fields. With their new release, FEUERSCHWANZ clearly confirm their outstanding position!

Aleister Crowley’s Abbey of Thelema was located in Sicily, Italy, and functioned as ground zero for many of the occultist’s most complex and groundbreaking hedonistic pursuits. Here, Crowley codified his ritual practices and took his concept of “Magick” to new, unforeseen levels. He rebranded the temple as “Collegium ad Spiritum Sanctum,” translating to “A college towards the Holy Spirit.” But the Abbey of Thelema was not without its controversy: A young disciple died in 1922 after contracting typhoid fever from the drinking water. And a year later, Crowley was evicted by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini’s regime, yet the mystery and intrigue behind the Abbey of Thelema remain.
It was only appropriate, then, that Jesse Heikkinen, a veteran of the Finnish music scene and a solo artist under the Iterum Nata banner, branded his newest musical pursuit as The Abbey. Drawing lyrical inspiration from esoteric organizations, their beliefs and his own practices, Heikkinen and co-lead vocalist Natalie Koskinen (Shape of Despair) weaved ritualistic tales from the darkest corners of themselves to pair with music that is a provocative, alluring kaleidoscope of dark, heavy rock. The result is the mystical Word of Sin, The Abbey’s nine-song debut long-player.
The Abbey tale began when Heikkinen generated the sudden urge to try his hand at singing in a doom metal band after laying down guest vocals for fellow countrymen Fuzzifer. His idea was to form a doom metal band with “big vocals” — a project for fun’s sake that would thrive off writing from the heart and improvisation. Those plans involved former Sentenced and The Man-Eating Tree drummer Vesa Ranta — the first name that came to Heikkinen’s mind for the project.
Ranta, now a professional photographer and filmmaker, provided the steady backbone behind Sentenced’s groundbreaking career that was brought to its conclusion in 2005. According to Heikkinen, Ranta plays “like a battalion of marching giants,” a not-so-subtle nod to the drummer’s mastery of the quarter-note. Ranta quickly took to Heikkinen’s early demos and suggested they add a female singer. Enter Koskinen. Koskinen knew Ranta from a video shoot where she was serving as a makeup artist. Reluctant to try a new band considering her Shape of Despair and career obligations, Koskinen listened to Heikkinen’s first demo and decided to give the project a go. Janne Markus (guitar, also of The Man-Eating Tree) and Henri Arvola (bass) were soon tapped to complete the band’s lineup.
Word of Sin was recorded between April and November 2021 in several locations across Finland. Drums, bass and Markus’s guitars were tracked at Kratio Studio in Oulu by Kyösti Rautio. Rautio also served as co-producer and mixed the album, becoming the unofficial sixth member of The Abbey. Heikkinen, who recorded most of his vocals and guitars in his stepdaughter’s room, surrounded by My Little Ponies, Disney figurines and a pile of esoteric literature, is careful to point out that The Abbey fails to drop into any neat, little subgenre.
“The album was made purely for self-expressive reasons,” he says. “My music is the channel where I can be as true and authentic as possible. It is also a somewhat safe way to explore and express the dark side of myself and the collective consciousness. Word of Sin may seem like a tremendously dark piece as a rock album, but it’s pretty lightweight for a doom metal album! The material proved so strong that it was obvious that it wasn’t going to be another side project. I think using the means of improvisation made the music sound more like its creator instead of it being forced to be this or that — and that seemed to work really well for us!”
Regardless of where Word of Sin falls between the vast channels of doom and heavy rock, the vocal interplay between Heikkinen and Koskinen is undeniable. Each has songs where they take the lead, but their harmonies and trade-offs carry songs like “Rat King” and “Desert Temple” to the fore, creating a restless, captivating atmosphere resembling vintage rock from the 1970s. And, for his first go at singing lead in a band, Heikkinen proves to be quite the capable vocalist, carrying a smooth, almost airy delivery on “Crystallion” and “Widow’s Will.”
“I didn’t think of it that much — my vocals all came naturally,” he says. “I still think I’m more of a guitarist than a vocalist, really. During the writing and recording, I listened to King Crimson’s Red quite a lot, so I’m sure I got some influences from John Wetton’s singing on that album. The vocal harmonies were heavily inspired by bands like E.L.O, Queen and Yes.”
Heikkinen and Koskinen didn’t know each other before the formation of The Abbey. Heikkinen met Koskinen for the first time when she tracked vocals at his home studio, but their partnership generated immediate results. “Nowadays, I usually record my vocals at home, but in this case, as I had yet to meet Jesse in person, I wanted to record my parts at his place,” says Koskinen. “It’s very important to see what kind of energy is between the musicians I’m going to work with in the long run. It turns out that we are a perfect match musically. Later on, I traveled to Oulu to meet the rest of the guys [Janne and Henri] and I must say that we had a very strong bond from the beginning. Sometimes things just happen even when you don’t plan them.”
“The right lines for each were found really easily,” adds Heikkinen. “There already were dozens of vocal tracks in some of my demos, but every time Natalie found her place in the song, she added something new into it.”
The creative process behind Word of Sin proved so fruitful that the members of The Abbey are already thinking about a follow-up. It’s a testament to the material’s inherent strength and the immediate bond between all five musicians.
“The Abbey will most definitely be an active and serious project for me – I do hope it will turn out fun as well,” wraps Heikkinen. And closes Koskinen: “I do have a feeling this band will make a long trip together.”
