Los Angeles’ acclaimed avant-garde metal band MELTED BODIES recently announced plans to release their second of EP, The Inevitable Fork Vol. 2, on June 30th, and today have revealed the record’s second single, “State of Mind,” a mind-altering, industrialized track that ventures into new darkwave territories.
Commenting on the song, the band says:
“A fever dream state of mind trapped inside a black liquid half dome and floating aimlessly in an ocean of yellow white long hairs. This song is a combination of visuals and mind hallucinations I’ve experienced while deep in thought attempting to figure out where I was headed during a time of turbulent transition. We are all lost at certain times throughout our lives and somehow often unannounced the path we once saw in front of ourselves just simply disappears.“
“State Of Mind” was mixed by Uniform guitarist Ben Greenberg and mastered by Rob Dennler (Built To Spill) and is accompanied by a music video that can be viewed here:
It’s 2015 and Andy Hamm has albums sitting above his vinyl record player – Cannibal Corpse’s “The Bleeding” and Talking Heads’ “More Songs about Buildings and Food.” For the greater part of the past decade, he had been touring the world as a founding member of the indie band LOCAL NATIVES, but had been dismissed from the band he had helped build for creative differences. Depressed and burned out, he was struggling to even consider making new music. However, those two albums on his wall, two records that epitomized his taste from an early age, were a template for a new project that could re-ground him in the reason why he ever wanted to create music in the first place. So, he started writing.
A few months later, Andy met Scott McDonald at a screening of the Japanese cult film “Why Don’t you Play in Hell?” It didn’t take long for the two to realize their shared love of horror and anime extends to music as well. With Scott’s early background playing drums in Portland’s early 2000’s outfit UPON BEAUTY RESTS, the two decided to meet up and see whether Andy’s new project might have some traction. After a few practices, it was clear that it was time to fill out the band, starting with bassist Houda Zakeri. Houda had been part of the LA punk scene for years playing with HOLY HYDRAULICS, but had put a pause on playing music due to a cancer diagnosis. Once in remission, her first priority was playing live again, and like Scott, the exciting convergence of so many different tastes and ideas made Andy’s new project feel different.
The final piece came by way of Andy and Scott’s mutual friend Ben Majoy, who initially booked the three piece to open a DIY party in downtown Los Angeles. Ben, who also goes by the moniker ‘Diamondstein,’ is an electronic musician and host of NTS Radio’s long-running experimental and industrial program “Night Shift.” Andy and Ben had initially connected through hallway conversations at their day jobs over their shared, almost encyclopedic knowledge of metal and its many factions. So when the trio decided to find a fourth member to fill out the many electronic details on these initial demoes, Ben became the obvious choice. And with this, MELTED BODIES was formed.
Over the course of the next few years, the foursome developed a reputation around Los Angeles for their chaotic, energetic, and unpredictable liveshows. Their initial reputation for strange satirical outfits, and difficult-to-pindown intensity led to as many mismatched billings as it did sold out shows, playing support for the likes of mainstays like Red Fang, Kikagaku Moyo, Horse the Band, Machine Girl and others. A Southern California cult following emerged, just as 2020 shutdown the world – an ironically perfect time for MELTED BODIES to finally release their breakthrough debut album “Enjoy Yourself.”
This album, self-recorded in the depraved Inglewood practice space where MELTED BODIES rehearsed, became a breakthrough for the band, introducing their fresh and contradictory sound to a global audience of like minded multi-hyphenate metalheads. Critically acclaimed for its fresh ideas while still retaining a respectable metal literacy, “Enjoy Yourself” was labeled “the Most 2020 album we could have hoped for” by journalists, largely due to its themes of consumerism, arrogance, police cannibalism, political ambivalence, and isolationism. It eventually became one of Bandcamp’s most popular metal albums for the year, and a frequent part of many year end lists, including a #1 from MetalSucks.
Now, firmly established as a referential and wholly unique part of the metal music landscape, MELTED BODIES is on the cusp of their second record, “The Inevitable Fork.” This album, comprised of three unique EPs, takes much of the physical energy and harsh honest lyrics from “Enjoy Yourself,” and expands it with a more internalized lyrical approach and new musical ideas. While “Enjoy Yourself” was about a battle with society, these new songs are about the all too common battle of survival vs. joy. “The Inevitable Fork” represents the decisions and paths we are forced to pick at certain points in our life: our skewed approach to work and life, pitting the necessity to conform and stay afloat against the pursuit of one’s passions and a real feeling of purpose. “The Inevitable Fork” is the next chapter for MELTED BODIES, but for a band designed around reflecting our idea of metal, music conventions, and America’s idea of itself back on us with glaring intensity, this is just the beginning of their story.
Metal Blade Records has just released an expanded edition of Yesterday and Today Live from hard rock legends Y&T.
Yesterday and Today Live features 15 songs and more than 84 minutes of live Y&T recorded in 1990, with never-before-seen photos and two bonus tracks, ‘Earthshaker” and “Rescue Me.” “Earthshaker” was originally on the first Yesterday and Today (self-titled) album in 1976, and “Earthshaker” was also the title of Y&T‘s 1981 third studio album; “Rescue Me” appears on the “Earthshaker” album. Both bonus tracks appear on all versions / variants of Yesterday and Today Live and are available at: metalblade.com/yandt
The iconic songs on Yesterday and Today Live (initially released in 1991) were written by the classic lineup of Dave Meniketti, drummer Leonard Haze, bassist Phil Kennemore, and guitarist Joseph Alves.
Singer/songwriter and guitarist Dave Meniketti says of the album: “Very happy to have this vinyl re-release of Yesterday and Today Live come together. This was recorded at a time when the band had decided to disband–however temporary that was–and these tracks were taken from what we considered were to be the last shows Y&T would perform. Because of our state of mind at the time, songs like “Hard Times” were especially poignant. Even though the changing music industry had us in turmoil, the band was at the top of our game and these tracks give a good window into that time of our lives. I believe this is truly one of our finest Y&T live recordings.“
Yesterday and Today Live (Expanded Edition) Tracklisting: 01. Mean Streak 02. Hurricane 03. Don’t Stop Runnin’ 04. Struck Down 05. Winds of Change 06. Black Tiger 07. Midnight in Tokyo 08. Beautiful Dreamer 09. Hard Times 10. I’ll Cry 11. I Believe in You 12. Squeeze 13. Forever 14. Earth Shaker (Bonus Track) 15. Rescue Me (Bonus Track)
Current Bio: Before Mötley Crüe, before RATT, even before Metallica, Y&T was slogging away in sweaty rock clubs around America. When the band formed in the early 1970s, little did they know they would set the standard for hard rock bands that trailed. Many of the biggest acts of the ’80s became popular opening for headliners Y&T-and cut their teeth on the band, as evidenced by the Y&T mentions in tell-all books by acts such as Metallica and Mötley Crüe.
Born in Oakland, California, Y&T is one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s own innovators of the hard rock sound. Whether performing to a festival crowd of fifty-thousand or in an intimate nightclub, Y&T‘s high-energy set and passionate performances still captivate legions of fans around the globe, proving Y&T‘s music timeless.
Originally formed as Yesterday and Today, the initial powerhouse quartet-featuring Dave Meniketti (lead guitar/lead vocals), Phil Kennemore (bass), Leonard Haze (drums), and Joey Alves (rhythm guitar)-tore through the ’70s and ’80s with their own brand of hard rock. After two ’70s albums on London Records, they shortened their name to Y&T and released eight albums on A&M in the ’80s. Two more albums with Geffen Records marked an era of change with Jimmy DeGrasso (Alice Cooper, Suicidal Tendencies, Megadeth) on drums and Stef Burns (Alice Cooper,Berlin, Huey Lewis) on guitar.
With a discography of 18 albums, three greatest hits collections, plus a boxed set, Y&T has sold over four million albums since their 1974 inception. The band’s most recent single I’m Coming Home has climbed to roughly 1.5 million views on YouTube. Y&T received extensive airplay with hits such as Forever, Rescue Me, Mean Streak, Don’t Stop Runnin’, and Summertime Girls-which played in heavy rotation on MTV. Y&T songs have been featured in a multitude of movies and television shows, including Real Genius, Out of Bounds, Baywatch, and Hunter. After five top 100 albums, songs that tipped into the 40s, two Bammie Awards, and many international television appearances, Y&T‘s hits are still played on VH1 Classic and classic rock radio stations worldwide.
With the passing of Kennemore, Haze, and Alves, it’s Meniketti who carries on the legacy that is Y&T. Y&T continues to tour the world, featuring the dynamic original frontman Dave Meniketti (lead guitar/lead vocals), John Nymann (guitar/vocals), Aaron Leigh (bass/vocals), and Mike Vanderhule (drums/vocals), playing songs that span the band’s five-decade career and including all the hits and fan favorites. Prepare to have your face melted.
Following their latest, much-acclaimed offering, Reforged – Ironbound (released in 2022 via AFM Records), Hamburg-based power metal act Iron Savior has announced the release of a brand new studio album! Firestar will be out on October 6, 2023 through AFM, the pre-sale has just started at THIS LOCATION!
To shorten your wait until the full-length release, today, Iron Savior have unleashed their blistering album title track! It’s immediatly evident, “Firestar” is irresistible and with its incredible 176 bpm definitely one of the fastest songs in Iron Savior’s history to date. Says singer and guitarist Piet Sielck: “With the power of the debut, the energy of Condition Red and a massive old-school-meets-modern-soundscapes production, Firestar is a massive track that won’t leave your players for a long time. We promise!”
Watch the official lyric video for “Firestar”, now premiering here:
The band’s upcoming album will feature a wide range of influences from hard rock to pop, all calibrated to heavy metal standards thanks to those typical Iron Savior virtues. But sometimes pure coincidence or seemingly inconspicuous little details can turn a very good album into an outstanding release. In the case of Firestar, it has come as a real surprise even for Sielck that the new songs surpass the material of the impressive 2020-album Skycrest. In fact, the cornerstones of the current offering were already set and pointed to a successful production within the tried and tested framework, when all of a sudden everything turned out rather differently: “Just before the recordings were finalised, I was inspired by the muse, totally of the blue. I wrote two more songs out of nowhere and changed a third one on the spur of the moment. And suddenly, ‘Firestar’ turned into an even better record,” says Sielck happily, admitting that this unexpected creative surge “triggered great emotions” in him.
Iron Savior have again come up with an exceptional studio album in Firestar, enhanced by Felipe Machado Franco’s impressive cover artwork presenting the Iron Savior spaceship that has been around since 2011. The cherry on the cake is the powerful production courtesy of Hamburg’s Powerhouse Studio, including intelligently positioned keyboard parts and the anthemic background choirs, supported by Sielck’s 17-year-old daughter Frida and her boyfriend. Without any doubt, Firestar promises to be a bonfire in many respects!

Southern Californian melodic death shredders EXMORTUS have released the third single, ‘Beyond The Grave,’ from their massively anticipated 6th studio album, Necrophony, that’s due August 25th from Nuclear Blast Records. The face-melting new track is a sonic fist-to-the-face, replete with thrashing guitar riffs, blistering solos and monstrous vocals that attest to why the band remains one of the fiercest bands in underground metal.

Commenting on the single, guitarist/vocalist Conan says: “We’re excited to show off yet another intense song from the new album with awesome visuals by Wayne Joyner. Heavily inspired by the Evil Dead movies, this piece interprets the madness of possession with fast rhythms and licks on each instrument. We’re sure to have fun performing this one on tours to come.”
EXMORTUS recently headlined the Hyperspace Metal Festival in Vancouver and completed a West Coast tour with Paladin and Graveshadow. Additional live performances to be announced soon.

“Nothing But the Blues” became a fan favourite and a live-show staple before it was officially released. The live and stripped version was taken from their radio and record store promotion tour of the US. The song is taken from their latest album ‘Voices,’ released in March via Mascot Records.
Self-produced by the band and recorded almost entirely over just two days with engineer Mark Needham (Taj Mahal, The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Walk the Moon, Fleetwood Mac), ‘Voices’ stands as The Cold Stares’ most mature, eclectic collection yet, balancing gritty muscle and tender emotion in equal measure. The band released multiple videos from the album in The Joy, Nothing But The Blues, Throw That Stone and Got No Right (live).
“We approached ‘Voices’ as each song being an idea for a film,” Tapp explains. “I think they still work well together but provide the listener a little bit more of a journey through the course of the album than we’ve provided in the past.”
This week, their song “One Way Outta Here” – from the album ‘Head Bent’ – was the featured track on episode 3 of the final FX season of Mayans and tunes from their albums turned up everywhere, from ESPN and TNT to the hit video game Cyberpunk 2077.
Live is where the band truly thrive, and they’ve flexed that muscle on the road with the Rival Sons, Larkin Poe, Reignwolf, Spoon, Grand Funk Railroad, and Thievery Corp, among others. Chris Tapp (vocals, guitar), Brian Mullins (drums) and Bryce Klueh (bass) have a stage presence of electrifying authenticity. It is not one to be missed.
Their new album ‘Voices’ is out now via Mascot Records
