Atmospheric black metal act GYRDLEAH is gearing up for the release of it’s upcoming album “Spellbinder”, which will be coming out on April 21st via Black Lion Records. After the releases of the first two singles “VVitch” and the album’s title track “Spellbinder”, Gyrdleah offers today another intense glimpse into the soon to be released album with the lyric video for “Speak of the Devil”!
Gyrdleah comments: “Join me in ‘Speak Of The Devil’, and you shall have passage through fire. This dark art demonstration calls you into question“.
Conceptualized by sole member ‘Flagrum’ from Birmingham, England, Gyrdleah has been festering away in the darkness awaiting to emerge from the abyss of obscurity since the first EP, “Passage Into The Night” released in 2017. Navigating through the recent years of death and plague Gyrdleah‘s path has led to the upcoming debut full-length album “Spellbinder”. A journey of self-revelation, undying will, an homage to nature, and a celebration of the dark arts.
Recorded at Foel Studio by Chris Fielding of Conan (responsible for recording bands such as Winterfylleth, Electric Wizard, Primordial, Conan, Dyscarnate, Cerebral Bore, Latitudes, Witchsorrow, Mourning Beloveth, The Wounded Kings plus many more), Gyrdleah has managed to create its own unique sound that shows the true grandeur of its musical capabilities. Many will be left in shock and awe once they have heard this superb blackened metal album.

OATH OF CRANES – the new band from ex-Celtic Frost drummer Franco Sesa and ex-Celtic Frost guitarist Erol Ünala – turn doom metal on its head.
The band has released their new single ‘Puja’, taken from forthcoming debut album The Unsung Mantras, to be released 21st April via Klang Machine Records.
Franco Sesa combines his passion for eastern traditional music — particularly the mantra chants of Tibetan monks — with his love for hard rock to create a genuinely innovative wall of sound.
Starting off with the calm, yet uncanny ring of a meditation gong before hitting the listener in the face with Sesa’s hard-hitting drums, ‘Puja’ is a goosebump-inducing demonstration of the incredible energy created by combining walls of distorted guitars with bagpipe-evoking Tibetan horns, guttural chants, and the despairing voice of vocalist Fabrizio Merico.
It is the third and final single to be released from The Unsung Mantras.
Sesa comments: “Celebrate the negation of hope. The act of hope should only be performed for a limited time. If the other person is not receptive, for whatever reason, the exercise should be discontinued. Inability is innocence. You should then put your energy to better use. Otherwise, there is a danger of hostility on the part of the one you hope for, with the aim of incomprehension through inability. Not necessarily out of malice. Let it go and move on. Invest in yourself. As the Mantra says: From the unreal lead me to the real. From the darkness lead me to the light. From death lead me to immortality.”
The songs on The Unsung Mantras are dark and disturbing, yet beautiful and healing: traditional instruments and sounds from Asian heritage and cultures with shamanic roots, including singing bowls, horns and Tibetan monks’ chants, support the powerful and innovative metal celebrated on the album. The result vividly underscores the album’s Daoism-inspired concept and the band’s broader cultural influences, such as the choice of Sanskrit for song titles, imagery inspired by the Sadhu tradition, and the tribute to the uplifting virtues described by the iconography of Hindu deities. The Oath Of the Cranes is a promise: good death follows a good life.
Tracklisting:
1: Jivara (The Great Fever) 2: Rudra (The Superior Proposal) 3: Yama (Sacrifice of Introspection) 4: Krodhana – Noone Will Ever Miss You 5: Ahamkara (Who’s That Ugly Face in the Mirror) 6: Puja – Celebrate the Negation of Hope 7: Tamas (Obfuscation of the Third Eye) 8: Maya Pt 1 – To Cultivate Your Illusions 9: Maya Pt 2 – To Cultivate Your Disillusions 10: Akasha – Everything Holy is Profane 11: Kali (The Infinite Cycle of Transformation) 12: Sannyasi Mantra (Elegy of the Enlightened)
The record was produced by Oath Of Cranes, engineered at Switzerland’s New Sound Studio by Tommy Vetterli (Coroner, Eluveitie, Cellar Darling & more), and mastered at Sweden’s Fascination Street Studios by Tony Lindgren (Sepultura, Kreator, Witchcraft & more).
Oath Of Cranes are: Franco Sesa (ex-Celtic Frost): Drums, songwriting, lyrics and concept Erol Ünala (ex-Celtic Frost and Apollyon Sun): Guitar, sampling and drones Chris Tragianidis: Rhythm and lead guitar, bass and keyboards Fabrizio Merico: Lead vocals, video production and graphics Amedeo Mauriello (ex-In Love Your Mother): Bass

The five-track collection captures all of the drama, ecstasy, lust, madness, and love at the heart of the band’s cathartic and cinematic rock ‘n’ roll. On their debut Comedy EP lead singer Luka Bazulka said: “Like most theatrical comedies, beneath the banter and witty one liners, lies a lesson so dark and aggressively human – it needs laughter to lift itself up. After many years in the making, we’re happy to give you COMEDY.”
He continued speaking on the lead song “Riot” and described it as: “Say what you want and say what you love! Stay vigilant so as to not get carried away with the night – unless of course, like us, that’s what you’re into. After all, life is a Riot!”
The band set the stage for the EP with “The Place To Be,” “Big City Thing,”and most recently, “Alive.” Inciting feverish critical applause, Hits Daily Double went so far as to predict, “If anyone’s going to revive the glory days of Queen-style rock, our money’s on The Scarlet Opera,” while LA On Lock promised, “This is a band to invest in early so you can tell all your friends you heard them before the world caught on.” Check out the full EP tracklist below.

The Scarlet Opera: Inspired by the Scarlet Lettering of the misunderstood and misrepresented – the music, the shows, the glamour are all devoted to the outcasts – to the sexually liberated – to those who don’t come from wealth – to those who are divine.
About The Scarlet Opera: Fusing the grandeur of the theatre with the raw energy of rock and roll, The Scarlet Opera – a five piece band hailing from Los Angeles – offers an escape into the throes of love, lust, glamour, and passion. Formed as ‘Perta’ in 2016 and reborn in 2022, The Scarlet Opera is led by lyricist and frontman Luka Bazulka, whose authentic narrative and vocal prowess are matched only by the musical talents of band members Colin Kenrick [keyboard], Daniel Zuker [bass], Justin Siegal [drums], and Chance Taylor [guitar]. The band’s origins are tied to one fateful night when Colin, upon witnessing Luka perform an inspiring solo vocal set, enlisted long time friends and seasoned musicians Daniel, Chance, and Justin to provide a new dimension to what was already brimming with potential. Word of packed venues and a captivating live show soon drew the attention of SB Projects and Republic Records, who turned to hit songwriter and producer David Stewart [BTS, Jonas Brothers] to collaborate, inspire, and further ignite an already growing fire. With the recent release of their singles “The Place To Be,” “Big City Thing,” and “Alive,” The Scarlet Opera is poised to make their mark with their debut EP Comedy, out now.
Perris Records announces the CD release of ANGELS IN VEIN “Long Time Coming” on April 7th. This CD will give any fan of L.A. Guns, Beautiful Creatures & Cherry St. their fix of classic rock with a mainstream element. This album will be a top seller in 2023 along with other Perris artist Babylon A.D. & Roxx Gang. Angels In Vein is a classic rock band with mainstream elements seamlessly woven into both its musical tapestry and cutting edge production, making its unique sound immediately identifiable yet virtually timeless. AIV was formed in 2015 when founding members Chris VanDahl (Cherry Street, Pack Of Wolves, L.A Guns) and Todd (Taz) Anthony (Cherry Street, Spinning Chain, The Union Underground) renewed their collaborative efforts with the intention of writing a rock album for the ages. As the process progressed and the musical direction began to define itself, bassist Adam Kury, (Pack Of Wolves, Legs Diamond, Candlebox) and drummer Troy Patrick Farrell (White Lion, Gilby Clark, Enuff Z’ Nuff, Tantric) were recruited into the fold to contribute to and further refine the bands sound and identity. The end result and AIVs freshman offering Is truly the culmination of a band who’s independent and collective efforts and abilities have generated an album that while many questioned if it would ever see the light of day, was definitely worth the wait. This is, Angels In Vein “Long Time Coming”.
Chris VanDahl from Angels In Vein, “With the engineering duties being handled by Todd (Taz) Anthony himself and mastering turned over to Anthony Focx (Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith) it seemed all that was left was to find the perfect home for this album. Enter Perris Records. Perris started out as an underdog that’s been successfully championing new and classic hard rock music and artists for over 30 years. The end product and AIVs freshman offering is a blistering example of what a great rock band should be. This is Angels In Vein and this albums “A Long Time Coming”.”

New Jersey sludge and noise band SUNROT have today released their new single, Trepanation, via all streaming platforms. Alongside the single the release, SUNROT have also shared an accompanying video for the track. Trepanation is the third song to be taken from the quintet’s forthcoming sophomore album, The Unfailing Rope, which is set for release via Prosthetic Records on April 7.
Speaking on Trepanation‘s release, SUNROT comments: “Trepanation is an older song that came together quickly and compulsively and the lyrics kind of reflect that burning anxious need to get it out and get it out quickly.
“Trepanation is an old medical procedure where they would drill a hole into a persons skull to relieve pressure in the head. As a group of people we have all dealt with varying degrees of mental health struggles and the song is using that procedure as a metaphor for the release of that kind of mental pressure. That frantic need for release. It’s definitely one of the more personal songs on the record and we hope it can help someone feel seen who is also in the middle of a crisis. Hope y’all enjoy it. Rot in the sun.”
At times The Unfailing Rope seemed to be a cursed project; recorded no less than three times before hitting the jackpot with its final iteration, completing the record was a hard-fought battle. Vocalist Lex Santiago was hospitalised between the first and second recordings, suffering from a psychotic episode. Although it may have seemed like an albatross around their necks, The Unfailing Rope eventually provided salvation and catharsis for SUNROT in ways they had never anticipated.
Reflecting on the difficulties they overcame collectively to reach a point where the album was fit for release, the band are resolute in finding joy in the debris of the experience. Whilst the musical output is gritty, venomous and far beyond heavy, it is healing, acceptance and forgiveness that is at the heart of what drives SUNROT forward as a band. Coupled with a DIY ethos that connects them firmly to their roots, SUNROT are determined to be a force for good, despite the pain and darkness embedded in their music.
The third and final recording was captured by Scot Moriarty at Backroom Studios in Rockaway, New Jersey, and later mastered by Magnus Lindberg of Cult of Luna. The trial and error of earlier sessions led to a more precise execution of their vision, a more confident approach and a ultimately more live and organic sounding record than they’d originally anticipated. Their take on sludge is adrenalised by the addition of samples, noise and experimentalism. With guest musicians including Bryan Funck, Emily McWilliams, and Blake Harrison (Pig Destroyer) adding embellishments to the core SUNROT sound, the final result is electrifying.
SUNROT is very much a product of its environment; The Unfailing Rope an anthology of the lived experiences of authors. From the micro to the macro, personal to political, every scar, every tale is etched into the fabric of The Unfailing Rope with unflinching detail. SUNROT keen to stress that for all of the trauma, loss and catharsis, joy is only just below the surface.
The Unfailing Rope tracklist: 1. Descent 2. Trepanation 3. Gutter 4. The One You Feed 5. The Cull 6. Patricide 7. Tower of Silence 8. Love
SUNROT is: Christopher Eustaquio (he/him) – guitar Rob Gonzalez (he/him) – guitar Lex Santiago (he/they) – vocals & noise Alex Dobrowolski (they/them) – drums Ross Bradley (he/him) – bass
