Avantgarde black metal / experimental metal label Brucia Records has announced its imminent closure.
Founded in 2019, the label has spent the past six years releasing groundbreaking albums from extreme and experimental artists worldwide, including LaColpa, Mouth Wound, Void, Hegemone, Krvvla, The Sun and The Mirror, and many more.
Brucia Records‘ statement:
“We enjoyed every moment of this journey and are incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished over the years. We’ve had the privilege of working with amazing artists and forging great friendships along the way, but the time has come to say farewell. As a final thank you to everyone who has supported us, we may still release one last special surprise before we close for good.”
All storefronts will be discontinued by the end of February, and Brucia Records is now holding a massive clearance sale on Bandcamp and its official webstore—but only for one week!
Though now revered as the most vile band in death metal, before Ungentle Exhumation, CRYPTOPSY were still just a whisper among the Canadian underground.
Now, three decades later, as the legendary band prepare to release the follow-up to their JUNO Award winning last album, Season of Mist is reissuing their first demo.
“Ungentle Exhumation was the first release in the band’s transition from Necrosis to Cryptopsy”, says drummer Flo Mounier. “It’s more death-metal type music. The songs have more blasts, more chunky grooves, and were recorded on good old analog, in one room, with all the musicians together!”
Season of Mist is reissuing Ungentle Exhumation on April 11, 2025.
After settling on a new name and several lineup changes, Cryptopsy recorded their first demo as a five-piece in 1993. While the band would go on to re-record most of these songs for their blasphemous full-length debut, Ungentle Exhumation already bore their unmistakable mark on death metal. “Gravaged: A Cryptopsy” is split open by the hair-raising screech and brutal barks of Lord Worm, while Flo Mounier flogs closer “Mutant Christ” with unhinged technical precision.

Even the most legendary heroes have their downfall. Back at the end of the 2000s, the underground had left Cryptopsy for dead thanks to an album that’s best left unspoken. But when the recent JUNO Award winners returned from critic-imposed exile in 2011, they reclaimed their crown as the most vile band in death metal with their self-titled album.
“The self-titled album brought Cryptopsy back to its true intention, which is pushing brutal death metal to the utmost extremes”, says drummer and founding member Flo Mounier. “It marks the beginning of our resurgence”.
The songs needed time to cook, but once guitarist John Levesseur and Flo Mounier started jamming, they rediscovered the right balance between jazzy experimentation and brutal technical proficiency on Cryptopsy. “Ominous” still reigns as the only song in their 36 year history with a downtuned guitar, while future set list staple “Two-Pound Torch” introduced their patented, squirming fishhook riff.
Though it pulled them back from the brink, Cryptopsy’s self-titled album was only the beginning. The Canadians continued their brutal resurgence on the double during the mid-2010s with two neck-snapping EPs.
The Book of Suffering was always meant as a companion piece. Cryptopsy framed Tome I around the concept of those phobophiles among us who inflict suffering (including a twisted-but-true tale of a Greyhound bus trip gone horribly awry). Meanwhile, Tome II shifts perspective to those who’ve escaped their tormentors. “Sire of Sin“ – a ripping escape from a notorious religious cult – quickly turned into a staple in the band’s ever-mutating setlist.
“The band is once again at the forefront of creative brutality“,Angry Metal Guy rejoiced.
Now, for the first time, fans can own both EPs on one combined LP when Season of Mist reissues The Book of Suffering this Friday, December 13.
This summer, Cryptopsy are bringing relentless carnage all over Europe alongside Decapitated, Warbringer and Carnation.
“Europe, get ready!”, Cryptopsy says. “With over 30 dates across the continent, this tour promises relentless energy, crushing riffs and unforgettable nights”

Cinematic rockers Earthside and Mascot Label Group have announced plans to release a new recording titled “frozen heart ~ burning world” in front of the band’s first headline tour of North America. That run begins at Boston’s Middle East on February 21 and will play its final show on March 8 at Brooklyn’s Meadows. They’ll perform songs off their latest album alongside their debut A DREAM IN STATIC. Tickets are available here.
The band shares, “We’re beyond thrilled to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Let The Truth Speak by heading out on our first-ever North American headline tour. This tour is a milestone for us, and we can’t wait to connect with all of you—both new and familiar faces—who have been a part of this journey. Expect an immersive and epic live experience that brings songs from Let The Truth Speak, A Dream In Static, and even some heart-wrenching new material to the stage. And stay tuned; this is just the beginning, with more dates on the horizon!”
The recording “frozen heart ~ burning world,” is the lone “bonus track” from Earthside’s writing sessions that delivered Let The Truth Speak. The band reflects, “Not for any lack of quality—if anything, it may even be among our individual favorites from the full batch of material. We really wanted a ‘Closest I’ve Come’ – vibe track on LTTS, but nothing we were generating like that was gripping us—at least until Frank’s entrancing, icy intro came out of the ether one day in practice, and the rest of the song just poured from it. Unfortunately, the track just came together too late in the writing process for us to feel ready to record it with the others—and on a record that didn’t have much room for another odyssey track. But in celebration of Earthside’s long-awaited headline tour, we wanted to give the song the proper recording it deserved.”
The group notes that ‘frozen heart’ is uniquely—just Earthside. “There are literally no other performers on the song outside of our four members. In our love of collaboration and working with guest musicians, we perhaps underestimated the value of what we as a core unit bring to the table. As such, this song represents the heart of Earthside’s sound—the atmosphere, the emotions, and the storytelling that are most essential to who we are as artists. The title of the song is self-explanatory, but it sums up a lot of what we’ve felt and seen around us in the years of working on, and since releasing, Let The Truth Speak.”
They continue, “When we lose our empathy and our present concern for anything beyond our individual well-being, the result is always the same—everything around us burns. The somberness of the music and its title was inspired in large part by the fear of impending loss in the face of present climate change—and the callousness of those most well-positioned to do something about it.
When we titled and planned the recording and release of ‘frozen heart ~ burning world,’ of course, we had no idea of the devastation that would come to Southern California in the weeks leading up to sharing this piece of music. We are thinking of all of you whose lives have been upended and we hope that the themes that inspired this piece resonate in a way that’s affirming and healing amidst such upheaval. We hope ultimately that we as humans will be moved to come together and do everything we can to make these fires a rarity, and not more the norm.”
Now a decade removed from their critically show-stopping entrance – A Dream in Static [2015] – the idealistic artists in Earthside found themselves in a different world entirely … or, perhaps, a world more honest and unhinged than they and many others had bargained for. “This album almost destroyed our lives and friendships,” keyboardist and co-orchestrator Frank Sacramone confides. “It’s insanity, but it is beautiful.”
“A Dream In Static was more of an *I* album,” reflects guitarist and orchestrator Jamie van Dyck. “Each of us in our own way was engaging topics of self-actualization and the fear of never quite becoming. Let The Truth Speak, however, turns its focus to the *We*. Within months of releasing ADIS, the global landscape had changed to where issues of far more consequence than our own individual dreams coming true were tugging at us. We became far more consumed with the trajectory of humanity as a whole than our own legacies therein.”
Earthside are Jamie van Dyck [Guitars, backing vocals, programming, keyboards], Ben Shanbrom [drums, backing vocals], Frank Sacramone [Keyboards, synthesizers, programming, percussion, guitar] and Ryan Griffin [Bass, backing vocals].

The mesmerizing world of instrumental dungeon synth and folk music expands as Teeth Of The Fae announces its signing with Wormholedeath for the upcoming album Beneath Pointed Hat, set to be released on March 28, 2025. This marks a significant step for the visionary solo project founded by Jamie Prentice.
“I am overjoyed to announce that Teeth Of The Fae has signed with Wormholedeath to work together for the distribution and promotion of my latest album, Beneath Pointed Hat,” said Teeth Of The Fae. “Thank you so much to everyone at WormHoleDeath for this opportunity, I am very grateful!”
Beneath Pointed Hat is a wordless serenade from the gnomes, those elusive creatures who, if one is fortunate, may be glimpsed beneath the cover of a mushroom or in the bushes behind a parish church. The album is divided into two Abodes: Abode I presents the closest expression to the old-school dungeon synth, evoking a dark, dank, and mysterious atmosphere inspired by the powerful works of Mortiis, Depressive Silence, and Secret Stairways. Abode II builds upon this foundation, incorporating a lighter new-age influence reminiscent of artists like Enya. Throughout the album, listeners will also discover sprinkles of neofolk, delivering glad tidings from all ethereal beings!
Enter the magical and bizarre world of Teeth Of The Fae , check out the teaser here:
Teeth Of The Fae began its journey in January 2024, with Jamie Prentice crafting the solo project’s distinctive sound. The debut album, I Can Feel This Land Breathe, dropped in March 2024, offering raw dungeon synth and dark ambient influences drawn from Faerie Lore and the landscapes of England. Subsequent releases like Comforted By Sorrow and A Heart Full of Swords explored Catholic imagery, while Our Ways Are the Old Ways blended dungeon synth and neofolk.
In July 2024, The Unseen Beckons marked a shift toward raw, folky black metal with vocals, inspired by Finnish melodic tremolo and Catholicism. This shift paved the way for Beneath Pointed Hat, which masterfully blends dungeon synth, neofolk, and whimsical sounds, incorporating influences from Mortiis, Enya, and Ulver. Teeth Of The Fae continues to push boundaries, creating an enchanting and otherworldly listening experience. Set for release via Wormholedeath, the album marks a new chapter, as Teeth Of The Fae is ready to enchant a broader audience and take listeners deeper into its mystical soundscapes.
