Atlanta, GA progressive blackened metal band TÓMARÚM has today announced their upcoming sophomore album, Beyond Obsidian Euphoria, set for release on April 4 via Prosthetic Records. Alongside the album announcement, the band are currently premiering the lead single, Shed This Erroneous Skin, via Decibel. Where debut album, Ash in Realms of Stone Icons, served as a prologue in the band’s continuing narrative thread, Beyond Obsidian Euphoria marks the beginning proper of TÓMARÚM’s story.
Speaking on the premiere, Kyle Walburn (guitars, vocals, programming) comments: “We are elated to unveil Beyond Obsidian Euphoria, the second chapter in the continuously unfolding story that is TÓMARÚM. This record is a 70-minute conceptual journey of fiery passion and triumph, an ascent to uncharted peaks in our endless search for purpose, solace, and healing. Beyond Obsidian Euphoria, life begins anew. Standing strong as stone, yet forever aware of the ash from which it was molded…”
“What better way to introduce Beyond Obsidian Euphoria than with my favorite TÓMARÚM song to date? Shed This Erroneous Skin is huge, uplifting, and anthemic: an exaltation of self, a promise of unwavering authenticity after a lifetime of hiding. Here I address a lifelong struggle with my identity as a gay man, after having grown up in the southern United States around a ton of homophobia. The acceptance and embrace of my true self was a massive turning point in the search for inner peace that shaped this record, and while the lyrics have a specific meaning to me I have written them generally enough that the listener may derive their own meaning.”
Three years on from their acclaimed debut album, Ash In Realms of Stone Icons, Beyond Obsidian Euphoria finds TÓMARÚM reaching out from the depths of depression and despair for transcendence and triumph on the other side of woe. Chronicling the narrator’s quest throughout nine songs, Beyond Obsidian Euphoria’s metaphorical title for the act of self-destruction also alludes to the pursuit of living a life beyond tragedy and defeat, with fantasy-inspired tales of Herculean strength and vulnerability at the forefront of Beyond Obsidian Euphoria’s odyssey.
Having solidified and expanded their line-up from a two-piece, with founding members Kyle Walburn and Brandon Iacovella at the helm, into a quintet in 2022, recent years have seen the band cohesively transition into a collaborative unit both on stage and in their songwriting process. Tours alongside Inferi, Dessiderium, and Cyborg Octopus, respectively, as well as separate stints with labelmates Dawn of Ouroboros and Volcandra, saw the Atlanta band develop a reverence among fans across the US and Canada for their work ethic and creative idiosyncrasies.
Keen to continue ever forward from their promising beginnings, Beyond Obsidian Euphoria was written and self-produced by TÓMARÚM throughout 2023 and 2024, and mixed and mastered by V. Santura (Triptykon, ex-Dark Fortress). On their second full-length offering, the band focused their efforts on crafting a fully self-contained statement of incandescent ambition, raw emotion and a focus on the complexities of the healing process from psychological difficulties.
TÓMARÚM’s light and shade dynamic is best exemplified on lead single Shed This Erroneous Skin, as Walburn, Iacovella and Matthew Longerbeam (guitar, vocals) weave intricate and gossamer, delicate guitar and vocal lines against a mercurial rhythm section of bassist Michael Sanders and drummer Chris Stropoli’s blast beats and lockstep flow, as blackened death metal passages weave seamlessly between progressive melodies and vocal harmonics. Elsewhere, Iacovella lends his voice to spoken word narration, tying together the nucleus of TÓMARÚM’s sonic palette on Shallow Ecstasy and Halcyon Memory: Dreamscapes Across the Blue, which explore bittersweet themes of somber existence and nostalgia as a double-edged sword, as well as the toweringly ambitious and defiant album peak The Final Pursuit of Light.
Beyond Obsidian Euphoria’s visual element is captivatingly tied together by Ukranian / Italian artist Mariya Popyk (aka Crnobogart), with the oil painting bringing a flair of fantasy and psychedelia to TÓMARÚM’s latest chapter. Graphic design and custom calligraphy were also provided by Woodcvtter Illustration.
Beyond Obsidian Euphoria tracklist: 1. In Search of the Triumph Beyond (Obsidian Overture…) 2. Introspection III 3. Shallow Ecstasy 4. Shed This Erroneous Skin 5. Blood Mirage 6. Halcyon Memory: Dreamscapes Across the Blue 7. Silver, Ashen Tears 8. The Final Pursuit of Light 9. Becoming the Stone Icon (Obsidian Reprise)

The legendary French death-grinders PUTRID OFFAL return with their long-awaited new album, “Obliterated Life”, set for release on 11th April 2025 via Time To Kill Records. Prepare for an onslaught of sonic butchery!
The first single “Sanguis In Oris” is now streaming HERE.
Following their critically acclaimed 2020 album “Sicknesses Obsessions”, which delved into the origins of pathology and the story of Vesalius, PUTRID OFFAL now take their visceral storytelling to the brutal world of 18th-century war medicine. “Obliterated Life” explores the grim reality of battlefield surgery through the lens of Dominique-Jean Larrey (1766–1842), a pioneering military surgeon who revolutionised battlefield medicine. Amidst the carnage of war, Larrey worked relentlessly on the frontlines, amputating limbs, extracting bullets, and suturing bowels in an environment drenched in blood and the stench of septic flesh. This harrowing narrative sets the stage for a merciless auditory experience.
Tracklist:
1 – The Sweet Fragrance 2 – Boning Hall 3 – Life Consumed 4 – Meat Stall 5 – Entrails Emancipation 6 – Privilege Of Pain 7 – Darkness Awaits 8 – Sanguis In Oris 9 – Mass Murder 10 – Agony Prevails 11 – Messy Flesh 12 – Ribcage Blues 13 – The Black Veil
Extirpated from the crepitating bowels of the surging death/grind scene of the early nineties, France’s PUTRID OFFAL became a cult act with their first platter of splatter, released in 1991 by Wimp Records (LP) and Adipocere Records (CD). However, the band gradually dissolved in formaldehyde by the middle of the decade.
But that is not dead which sleeps, and the beast came alive again 25 years later, delivering a renewed vision of their art with the release of their proper debut album, “Mature Necropsy”, in 2015. This was followed by countless European tours and appearances at festivals, including their iconic 2017 performance at the world-famous Hellfest, captured live for a bonus DVD accompanying their second full-length, “Sicknesses Obsessions” (2020). Another trail of devastation across Europe soon followed.
PUTRID OFFAL deliver old-school death grind deeply inspired by the early works of Carcass (“Reek of Putrefaction”, “Symphonies of Sickness”, “Necroticism”) and the initial death metal phase of Napalm Death (“Harmony Corruption”, “Utopia Banished”). With these ingredients, the band has crafted a solid and unmistakable foundation for their sound.
With “Obliterated Life”, PUTRID OFFAL add their own distinct touch, shaped by over three decades of studio work and artistic evolution. This new album represents the pinnacle of their career: a sonic butchery, powerful, filthy and brutal. Everything is in place to wound, crush and leave a lasting impact.
Progressive death metal progenitors RIVERS OF NIHIL will release their eponymous fifth full-length on May 30th via Metal Blade Records.
Sixteen years and five albums into the Pennsylvania band’s career, RIVERS OF NIHIL is upping the ante with Rivers Of Nihil. Traditionally, a self-titled record can signal a return to basics and/or a fresh beginning, and in ten powerful songs, it’s clear that both those factors are in play. Founding bassist Adam Biggs became the band’s new lead vocalist/bassist in 2023; the same year marked the appearance of additional guitarist Andy Thomas (ex-Black Crown Initiate), whose vocals also play prominently on Rivers Of Nihil. Producers Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland at Atrium Audio captured the new dynamics across more than fifty minutes of music.
“I feel like these songs are the perfect blend of all our albums, with all the fat cut away,” says founding guitarist Brody Uttley. “There are more technical songs that call back to The Conscious Seed Of Light and Monarchy sound, but with a more mature understanding of how to pace a song. There’s a fair bit of the Where Owls Know My Name and The Work-type experimental stuff, but with a more refreshed perspective on those styles for the current era of the band.”
On June 15th, 2023, the band released a new single, “The Sub-Orbital Blues,” the first track with Biggs handling lead vocals following the 2022 departure of singer Jake Dieffenbach. It was also the first track to feature Thomas. A second single, “Hellbirds,” dropped on October 19th of that year. On April 29th, 2024, the band released the cut “Criminals” and an accompanying music video. Both “Criminals” and “The Sub-Orbital Blues” appear on Rivers Of Nihil.
The new album’s first single of 2025, “House Of Light,” is a track that “encapsulates the nature of what it is that we do perfectly while offering a different perspective on the sound with the new lineup,” explains founding member/guitarist Brody Uttley, who also plays piano and does the programming in the band. “Everything that our fans have come to love about our sound is demonstrated in this song with the new addition of Andy singing and Biggs on main vocals. It has the riffs, it has the big chorus, it has the prog, it has the solos, it has the sax. Just a real classic example of what we do as a band in 2025.”

Rivers Of Nihil also showcases additional musicians, including Patrick Corona on alto saxophone, Stephan Lopez on banjo, McFarland on cello, and a slate of other guest vocalists. Despite the fresh approach on Rivers Of Nihil however, the album fits neatly into the band’s discography. With Where Owls Know My Name (2018), RIVERS OF NIHIL transcended all labels applied to them, and with its 2021 follow-up, The Work, they forged further into new territory with Metal Injection calling the latter album “the group’s most cohesive, ambitious, meditative, and varied effort, with greater uses of philosophical significance and transcendental respites.”
Rivers Of Nihil Track Listing: 01. The Sub-Orbital Blues 02. Dustman 03. Criminals 04. Despair Church 05. Water & Time 06. House of Light 07. Evidence 08. American Death 09. The Logical End 10. Rivers of Nihil
Later this month, RIVERS OF NIHIL will kick off their Aggressive Progressive EU/UK headlining tour with support from Cynic, Beyond Creation and labelmates, Dååth. In May, the band will return to North American stages for another month-long headliner with support provided by Holy Fawn, Inter Arma, and Glacial Tomb. After a somehow quiet first single, TROLD picks pace with their second advance song and video from the upcoming album “I Skovens Rige”.
“Med Høtyv Og Fakkel” takes place in the usual Trold background: the forest. The market square is buzzing with life on the edge of the forest. A happy boy runs innocently through the crowd, but a hooded troll lurks in the background. The song picks up speed as the troll takes the boy under his arm and his legs on his neck up the hill. The market square stinks of trolls and the hunt is now on for the troll with hay thief and torch.
Join the premiering here:
Welcome, people and friends, to the Kingdom of the Forest. Trold are finally back, with the sequel to their debut album, titled “I Skovens Rige”. Since “Der Var Engang…” the Danish trolls have been brewing their next adventure in the caves, which is now about to begin. This time they have trudged even further into the deep forest and have written a collection of stories that all centers around the theme of the forest.
All songs in “I Skovens Rige” center in one way or another on the forest, and the listener is taken on adventures of many kinds. The atmosphere is intense and it goes from a furious hunt to a mournful farewell and on to folk celebration and singing together. The focus is on melodies and energy, while the folk aspect continues to compliment Trold’s melodic folk metal. True to tradition, it is full of surprises in the form of guest performances from Esse (ex-HateSphere) on death vocals, Lars Thiesgaard (a famous Danish actor) on characteristic speak and Laura Emilie Beck (ex-Huldre, Ællevild) on violin, among others.
On “I Skovens Rige”, Trold shows their strongest side and cements a solid place on the Danish and international metal scene.
Join Trold in the second chapter of their exciting adventure…
“I Skovens Rige” will be released on gatefold LP (green vinyl limited to 500), digipack CD (including 28-page booklet) and digital on March 14th, 2025 via Mighty Music.
The passing of REAGAN YOUTH guitarist Paul Cripple last September sent shockwaves through the long-running anarcho-punk band’s massive fan base. Not only because he was the last remaining member of the original band, but also because Reagan Youth had just completed work on a new album, a long planned remembrance of Paul’s fellow founder, and high school friend Dave Insurgent.
Partly-titled to complete the trilogy established by the original band’s two albums, Volume I and II, Reagan Youth’s final album, Life and Times Revisited, Volume III, is a conceptual work based on Insurgent’s short life, as Cripple’s widow and Reagan Youth vocalist Madame St. Beatrice explains.
“Paul was frustrated with the idea that the band had become well known for having a tragic ending connected to Dave. So his intent was to pay homage to Dave so that he could, perhaps, divert attention away from what he thought was a glamorization of tragedy.
“It was important to Paul that he put out a body of work that could have more people, for once, look at other aspects of Reagan Youth and at the band as a whole and especially Dave’s short lived life, instead of just focusing on his ending. And I’m proud to be part of an album that Paul so desperately wanted to release and was so very passionate about.”
“Hapless Misfits,” the first single from the album, is an introduction to Dave’s so-called punk rock lifestyle. It’s a song about him rebelling against his upbringings, discovering who his chosen family is, and the starting point of his beliefs in anarchism.
Madame St. Beatrice continues, “The album chronicles Dave’s journey of self-actualization, the awakening of his anarchist sensibilities, and his attempt at redemption.”
Destined to be recognized as a punk rock classic – at the same time as withstanding comparisons to such classic concept albums as the Who’s Tommy, the Pretty Things’ SF Sorrow and Pink Floyd’s The Wall – Life and Times Revisited, Volume III is released in all formats on February 28.
