LUDOVICO TECHNIQUE have released their newest music video “Live As Myself”, off of the album “Haunted People”. Directed by the bands singer Ben V., the visuals of this intensely cinematic work bring a new dimension to Gothic Alternative/Metal unlike anything seen before.
“When directing and filming the music video, my goal was to embody the intensity of the lyrical meaning in a visual language that all could experience”
Breaking 1,000,000 streams on Spotify with a recent single of their dark brand of gothic industrial metal, Ben V., along with his band Ludovico Technique, bring a thoughtful depth and complexity to the genre. Presenting the very embodiment of Gothic culture in its purest form and their new album reflects that.
From New York City, the band originally drew inspiration from goth industrial acts such as Skinny Puppy and The Sisters of Mercy, yet now, Ludovico Technique have added glimpses of Type O Negative, Rammstein, and Rob Zombie to their unique take on gothic music.
Guitarist Jesse J. Heikkinen (The Abbey, Iterum Nata) and vocalist King Aleijster de Satan (King Satan, Saturnian Mist) have teamed up for a mind-bending progressive black metal project, HENGET. The emerging Finnish band is now sharing a guitar play-through for the recent single, “I Am Them,” which can be found at THIS LOCATION.
HENGET guitarist Jesse J. Heikkinen comments, “Sauna, the holiest man-made temple. The place where Finns used to enter and exit life. Nowadays, it can also mark a place where instructional videos, such as this, are made. Prepare your kantele, let the spirit of Löyly embrace you and be ready to shred like a 21st century Väinämöinen!”
Drawing inspiration from the world of occult and the ways of ancient Shamanism, ‘Beyond North Star’ depicts a violent hallucinatory journey to the depths of the mind and beyond with a psychedelic outlook.
The original music video for “I Am Them” can be found HERE.
HENGET will be debuting its first full-length, ‘Beyond North Star,’ on May 18, 2023 via Season of Mist!
Pre-orders are now available HERE. The album can be pre-saved on various digital platforms HERE.

The creation process has always been a very fascinating riddle isn’t it? After all, there’s no strict formula. Some spent weeks, months or even years meticulously working on every tiny detail over and over again until it feels perfect while others just have to let it all out, no matter how it all comes out, it just has to. And no, no matter how hard you try, you can’t force it. You just can’t. You need to have that vision, that unstoppable yearning to turn your dreams into reality.
King Aleijster de Satan has long stopped asking himself all those questions. Although he’s only thirty-four years old, the Tampere based Finn is a bullet-proof veteran of the black metal scene: he used to run and sign bands for Saturnal Records. He also ran the Blackvox studio from 2013 to 2020 where he recorded multiple bands. Purely on the musical front, besides being the long-time standing frontman of Saturnian Mist he also because various experiences, in Arvet among others. But with the industrial rumblings of King Satan, he’s learnt to expand his mind and look over all those useless fences to see what lied beyond. In the end, it’s all about being free both as an individual and as an artist, to go where your instincts and muse take you, no matter what.
And nothing encapsulates more this quest for freedom than HENGET. As a matter of fact, it lies at the very center of it as most of the music AND lyrics were on purpose improvised on the spot. Ever tried to capture lightning in a bottle? King Aleijster de Satan and his comrade Jesse Heikkinen just did with HENGET first album, Beyond North Star, Heikkinen having proved to be quite a versatile artist since dabbling with ‘progressive esoteric folk’ with Iterum Nata, the equally ‘out there’ Hexvessel or The Abbey.
“When I got in the studio to do the vocals, I only had various notes, sometimes hastily written on a small piece of paper and more or less some kind of loose structures to go with it. Most of them I gathered in between 2016 and 2019 after, let’s say experimenting quite a bit. I admit natural psychedelics and other shamanic methods influenced me a lot to reach another level of consciousness, besides my long interest towards the occult and mysticism. Those weren’t meant to get lost into but instead to be used as mere tools to help me opening new doors in my brain, a bit like a shaman would do when engaged in a ritual to reach a trance like of state. That’s also why I booked a two weeks session just for the vocals: I needed that amount of space to really dive in my subconscious. Overall, that was one of most intense recording experience I ever had but I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone because the toll you have to pay once it’s done is pretty heavy.”
Originally, the pair planned to unite in Saturnian Mist but then, Jesse “had to move to another city and it made things too complicated. But we still wanted to work together as he is probably the best songwriter I know. And since I had this idea for this other thing where I knew I wanted to push the limits and go over the edge in terms of songwriting, I needed somebody of his calibre.” “Indeed, Aleijster approached during summer 2021” confirms the multi-instrumentist. “He had a quite clear vision of what kind of concept he wanted to do lyrically speaking for a long time. It did coincide with my own desire to express something personal yet aggressively, an urge I hadn’t felt in a long time. Based on his background, we agreed this should happen within some kind of black metal frame but without still paying attention to much conventions or rules. I was given free rein to do whatever I felt like and I quickly realized I wanted it to be quite intuitive while making sure the music would be as crazy as possible, like some typhoon swallowing everything in its path… So using mostly vintage instrumentation, I recorded most of the music by myself in my own studio, pushing the button ‘rec’ and then totally letting myself go, following Aleijster ‘automatic writing’ method and ending up with some pretty interesting result.”
There’s something strangely seductive about the eight tracks included on Beyond North Star, as if the listeners were invited to enter some alternative and colourful place, dangerous and scary yet always otherworldly. Some may argue that all along you will most likely cross there the ghosts of Dødheimsgård, Arcturus or King Crimson. But Aleijster remains pretty reluctant to label it but “if we really need to, I guess it’s avant-garde black metal.” After hesitating with Henkivallat (‘spiritual realms’), which they ended up using as a songtitle instead, the name HENGET was chosen because of its double meaning as it can be translated both as ‘life’ but also ‘spirits’, “a perfect name for an occult band”. Beyond North Star is a “loose” concept album, like one long journey, even if the songs are not exactly tied up together. Something the 70’s prog rock loving Jesse is quite happy with while its title is a reference to that actual spiritual journey the listeners are about to undertake. One they will never forget.
Three ambitious music videos in total have been shot already to promote the album and HENGET has gathered a full line-up in order to start playing live. Saturnian Mist drummer Ville Rissanen was the first one to be asked, soon followed by Lasse Launimaa, a teenage years friend of Jesse who also plays in cult symphonic black metal band Thyrane on keyboards.

Tokyo’s death metal trailblazer DEFILED will be releasing a brand new album, ‘The Highest Level,’ on April 28, 2023 via Season of Mist! The band is now sharing a the music video for the brand new song, “Red World,” which can be found HERE.
DEFILED comments, “The small, claustrophobic room in this video may remind you of Room 101 in the movie ‘1984.’ If so, you are right. Haven’t you ever felt that since Covid, the world has become more and more surveillance oriented and peer pressure driven? We made this song to capture the update in the world. However, it is not a specific condemnation of any particular country or group. We deliberately try to construct a perspective that is abstract and metaphorical. The themes we deal with are heavy and dark, and they are filled with our own irony. But we hope the world will become a better place. We hope you enjoy the video.”
‘The Highest Level’ can be pre-ordered HERE and pre-saved on streaming services HERE.
Moreover, 2023 marks a seminal year for DEFILED as it celebrates three decades since the release of their first demo and twenty years since the Japanese death dealers formed a union with Season of Mist!
The band will be celebrating this release with a headlining tour of Japan starting from April 28 until it concludes on May 10. Then, then band will join HATE and VADER for three Japanese dates in June. The full itinerary can be found below!

THE GUESS WHO is a legendary Canadian band who enjoyed chart-topping hits in the late 60s and early 70s with an impressive catalogue of songs including “American Woman,” “These Eyes,” and “No Time.” During the course of its career, the band has released 11 studio albums, all of which charted in Canada and the United States. The Guess Who is best known internationally for its 1970 album, American Woman, which hit number one in Canada and number nine in the United States, with five other albums also hitting the top ten in Canada. All in all, the Guess Who boasts 14 top-40 singles in the United States and more than 30 in Canada.
The band released its first single The King on February 10 and it immediately landed on multiple Spotify playlists racking up over 50,000 streams, making it the highest new release in the band’s history. The band is now gearing up to release its latest creation, Plein D’Amour. Band members Derek Sharp, Michael Staertow, Leonard Shaw, Michael Devin, and founding member, Garry Peterson have crafted a collection of songs that raises the bar and continues to take it up a notch both musically and sonically. Derek Sharp, songwriter and lead vocalist had this to say about the latest single, “The title track/grand finale, Plein D’Amour, is a simple message. Black, White, Blue, Red, Up, Down, All Around may be part of the great illusion, but we are all one. Being genuine and full of love transmutes fear and anger into clarity and joy! It is the ultimate answer to everything…and it costs nothing.”
The album Plein D’Amour will be released on June 30 through the Guess Who’s new partnership with Deko Entertainment. Vinyl details will be revealed shortly. Artwork for the release is provided by world renowned graphic designer Ioannis (Deep Purple, Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, etc.) with limited prints to be autographed by both the Guess Who and Ioannis. The album Plein D’Amour was recorded at Villa Sound in Singhampton, Ontario, Canada, with Adam Fair, featuring other stand out tracks such as “Headline” and “Across the Line”.
The Guess Who is currently on tour in North America. Stay tuned for more details coming soon–and be sure to catch the Guess Who when it gets to a city near you!

Jimmy Kay of Canada’s The Metal Voice recently interviewed accomplished musician and Sex Pistols Bassist Glen Matlock.
In the chat Matlock talks about his new solo album ‘Consequences Coming’; his thoughts on the mini series Pistols; his relationship with Johnny Rotten and if the Sex Pistols would ever entertain the idea of releasing another studio album .or tour.
Glen Matlock ‘Consequences Coming’ will be released April 27, 2023 via Cooking Vinyl.
When asked about the new album’s political themes “I’m pretty pleased with the new album. It’s kind of politically pertinent, I’m referring mainly to UK politics but not only. We’re talking about Brexit, we’re talking about how in Europe more particularly in Britain there has been a real lurch to the right and people are losing their rights, rights to do this and that and the other. Before Brexit we can just get on a fairy, get on a plane, get on the EuroStar, which is fantastic with your guitar under your arm and go down, do a gig, do a session, bump into someone and stay there as long as you like. But you can’t do that anymore. It has been wrenched away from us, for no real reason that anyone can see apart from protecting a whole bunch of politicians and fund managers and offshore banking businesses in the Cayman islands. They lied to us and hoodwinked a whole bunch of working class people into thinking it’s the right thing to do, it’s crazy. All kinds of obstacles they put up. Not only that, they’ve used that as a way to enable the right wing in Britain to kind of tread over everybody but we’ve got one of the most corrupt governments we’ve ever had and they think they’re better than everybody else and they’re not there to serve the nation. I haven’t been that politically involved but all we can really do is vote but now if there’s a March I’ll go on it and in fact I went on one which would be just prior to Brexit. So some of the songs I’ve written kind of had that in the back of my mind.”
When talking about Johnny Rotten’s politics “Johnny Rotten he’s on the other side (more right wing views) but I don’t know if he is. I think he just says what he says just to get in the paper. I doubt his sincerity about all that but by whether he voted for Trump or the Tories in England and if you don’t mean it I think that’s pretty poor.”
When asked about the musical direction of his new solo album “I was born in the 50s, first records I’ve ever put on in my room, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis and stuff like that. Then in the early 60s we had Pirate Radio in England where bands like The Kinks and The Who and the Yardbirds and the early Stones and the Small Faces came through and that was very impressionable for me. We also had a great TV show called ‘Ready Steady Go’ where all of those bands would play Live. Plus the early Motown stuff . That’s my kind of yardstick for writing three and a half minute pop rock songs. All those people and the songs I’ve mentioned that were hits they won’t bring down the government songs but there was some kind of small consequence about all of them. There were worthwhile things to be singing about. And that’s what I allude to when I write a song, it’s a good blueprint . There’s a track on the album called speaking in tongues which again is like all these politicians talk so much nonsense they might as well be speaking in tongues. But musically it could be something from Goat Head Soup or Exile on Main Street you know it’s got that kind of Groove to it. But my version of it. I don’t want to sound exactly like somebody else. I’m going to try and put something newer forward in my own car you know within the Realms and the parameters of what I do.”
When asked why the Sex Pistols never made a second studio album “Because we were young, impetuous and full of beer and argued with each other too much. The problem with the Pistols was not everybody said what they thought to somebody else or not to the band guys themselves and we never spoke enough really. I think a few more kinds of real hum banging conversations could have cleared the decks a bit more and we would have made a second album. We all had it in us to write a second album.”
When asked if a second album was even discussed after the first Sex Pistols reunion “When we reformed in 1996 we spoke about it. Steve and Paul were up for it but John wasn’t, so there you go. I think he was kind of frightened that all our stuff is up on a pedestal and if we did something that didn’t come up to scratch then it would kind of chip away at the pedestal. But I say that was sort of a challenge and we could have written some stuff and if it didn’t make it (wasn’t good enough) we don’t put it out.”
When asked about how he felt about the mini series Pistols and if it was true to the real story “I’m very disappointed. I’m not disappointed it came out and I thought it was important that it went ahead because it was based on Steve’s (Jones) story who started the band. and his take on things.”
When asked about his portrayal in the mini series Pistols “I did not like my portrayal in the movie, in particular about leaving the band. I left the band, I was not sacked. That whole episode where Steve sacked me it’s just bollocks. The bathroom scene never happened (where he got fired). I left the band. I had a whole big meeting with Malcom about it and Steve and Paul. And Paul said can’t you just pretend to like John, not really, no. I write all these tunes and why can’t he (Johnny Rotten) back me up a bit. I just think it should have been more truthful.”
When asked about the authenticity of the relationship between Steve Jones and Chrissy Hynde and how it was portrayed in the movie ‘Pistols’ “Chrissy, she’s my neighbor in London, she said I only slept with him once.”
When asked if he had any input into the making of the series “At the beginning I had some meetings with the production team and I thought it all been ironed out but then I was ignored. So I’m not happy I feel shafted.”
When asked if he would reunite with the band again “I do not want to stand on stage next to somebody with a MAGA hat on, it’s not good, it’s not a good look. There is something about the fella (Johnny Rotten ) that I didn’t trust and I think it’s taking a long time for me to realize what that was all about and in the past few years I’ve realized what that was all about.. I always say Never Say, Never Again but I would say no Maga hats.”
Consequences Coming is a plethora of material inspired from when Glen started to listen to music to today, written to stand the test of time. It’s well-known Glen likes the Faces and a bit of Bob Dylan, and it’s all incorporated in there somewhere. What changes is the lyric. In the words of Lennon, Glen’s writing for the kids that have grown up with him. He’s come a long way from The Sex Pistols and records with an easy and melodic maturity born from being happily sober during decades of rock n roll.
The youngest Sex Pistol at only 16 he joined the band and co- wrote most of the iconic album ‘Never Mind The Bollocks’, including the hits ‘Pretty Vacant’, ‘Anarchy In The Uk’ & ‘God Save The Queen’. In true punk fashion he left amidst controversy and spitting feuds, but we’d expect nothing less from the band who spawned the punk movement.
Glen has played, performed and written with many greats including Blondie, Iggy Pop, Ronnie Wood, The Dammed, Primal Scream, Mick Jones, Midge Ure, Gary Kemp, Wendy James and contemporaries from the punk scene Rusty Egan, Mike Peters, Tom Robinson & Kirk Brandon. He often records and performs with long- time friends and recording comrades Earl Slick & Slim Jim Phantom (Stray Cats) and will be touring with Blondie throughout 2023, for whom he has also recorded bass on their new album.
Glen is a well- travelled, worldly wise musician. There’s a whole range of human experience and emotion that many artists strive for, that Glen always manges to attain.

Award-winning blues rock duo WHEN RIVERS MEET have announced the release of their third album Aces Are High out later this summer and available to pre-order now here. The exciting news of the new album precedes their April and May UK Headline Tour which starts April 28th. Tickets for the UK tour are available from www.whenriversmeet.co.uk/tour.
WRM will also perform on Joe Bonamassa’sKeeping The Blues Alive Mediterranean III Cruise which departs Athens on August 17th. Cabins are available from www.bluesaliveatseaeurope.com. The cruise also features Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram and Blackberry Smoke, Joe Bonamassa, and many more.
Regarding the forthcoming album the duo say, “As our music is progressing, we’re finding our sound even more. When we went in the studio this time, we’ve never been so sure on what we wanted to create—we had a really clear vision and have stuck to it.
“Before we held back on being too rocky, but this time we allowed ourselves to create what we wanted to hear, without restricting ourselves. We also allowed ourselves to express the different colours to our music with tracks like ‘Golden’ and ‘By Your Side’, so this album has more extremes. We still call upon our influences from all the years but remain true to ourselves to create music we love.”
The pair lay their first hand from the new record with the scorching lead single ‘Play My Game’, a groove-laden, driving blues track with rich riffs and searing vocals. It’s a bold statement of intent with a badass video to boot, capturing a poker game gone south leading to a high-speed car chase and daring aeroplane escape. Watch the music video HERE.
Since their formation in 2019, the husband-and-wife duo Grace Bond (vocals, mandolin, violin) and Aaron Bond (vocals, guitar) have been quick to prove themselves one of the most exciting names in British blues rock. Blending Americana, folk, blues, and rock in a distinctly unique manner, they have been showered with many awards and accolades.
Their forthcoming album Aces Are High follows two critically acclaimed records: We Fly Free (2020), which reached No.1 in the iTunes Blues Album Chart, and Saving Grace (2021), which charted at No.2 in the UK Official Jazz & Blues Albums Chart, No.5 UK Official Album Downloads Chart, and No.6 UK Official Independent Albums Chart. These were based purely on chart reporting digital sales and didn’t include physical sales.
When Rivers Meet were the first band to win four awards at the UK Blues Awards 2021 and another three awards in 2022, including Blues Band Of The Year on both occasions. In 2021 When Rivers Meet were voted Best New Band at Planet Rock’s The Rocks Awards, and in 2022 won Planet Rock’s Blues Power Award and Album Of The Year Award with Saving Grace.
Aces Are High finds the duo returning with a more powerful sound than ever before. Aaron’s gnarled riffs hit harder alongside his deep vocal tones, while Grace’s vocals range wider with tantalising bite as they effortlessly climb scales like her striking slide mandolin which accompanies the likes of ‘Trail To Avalon’.
The immediacy of the new record is showcased from the off with the hard-hitting opener ‘Infected’, while no punches are pulled on the kick-out-time anthem ‘5 Minutes Until Midnight’. Nevertheless, its contrasting sides find delicate moments such as the reflective acoustic song ‘Golden’ and the shimmering Americana of ‘By Your Side’.
When Rivers Meet developed a powerful live reputation and with their first headline tour last year, which they played to capacity crowds across the country. They will be hitting the road again throughout April and May 2023 on a UK headline tour, with special guest Arielle, and includes a date at London’s Lafayette on May 6th. Ahead of this they will be touring the UK with REEF while in the summer When Rivers Meet have also been announced to play a number of festivals.
