Following up on their hugely popular, first ever US tour last October in support of their magnificent studio album BODY MACHINE, dark wave wizards PRIEST are back with a brand-new single that befits both their sound and image. “PERSONAL JESUS” ranks as one of the most popular songs by British godfathers of electro DEPECHE MODE from that group’s best-selling massively influential 1990 VIOLATOR album. The song not only became a wildly popular radio hit upon its release, it has endured through the years with cover versions by everyone from Johnny Cash to Marilyn Manson.
On this new version, PRIEST vocalist MERCURY sinks his teeth into the song’s monotoned lyrics while the band converts the song’s signature twangy guitar riff into a deliciously distorted keyboard line that amps up the ominous sex appeal. The band declares that “PERSONAL JESUS” is “one of those timeless tracks that seem to always have been there. When we got the chance to cover a Depeche Mode song we got a bit sweaty – how should you even approach it? We took away the guitar, most iconic part of the song and replaced it with a Moog synthesizer! It resulted in a more gritty, hard hitting version. This is a homage to the band I think have influenced us the most.”
PRIEST’s cover is the first song to be released from the forthcoming Depeche Mode tribute album, All I Ever Wanted – A Tribute To Depeche Mode, which will feature tracks even more incredible covers by LEBANON HANOVER, SKOLD, XIU XIU, THE KVB and more! For The Metal Voice, Neil Turbin spoke to Twisted Sister bassist Mark ‘the animal’ Mendoza at The Metal Hall of Fame, which happened on Jan 26, 2023 at The Canyon Club in Agoura Hills.
When asked about this reunion of Twisted Sister Mark Mendoza said, “No we got inducted to the Heavy Metal Hall of Fame and we made an appearance here and played three songs.” Mendoza asked about the bands hiatus he said,” When was the hiatus? We got back together again of course we played New York Steel in 2001 for 9 11. In 2003 the offers were so good that we got back together. We didn’t tour so much but we did one offs, the big festivals all around the world and we did it for uh what about 14 years 15 years. And uh everybody decided they want to do other things and so we never broke up we just stopped playing.”

AVERLANCHE have released their new single “Little Lotus”, along with a Hollywood-style music video. The single is taken from their upcoming second album “Arctic Atlas” and is available on all streaming platforms. Other singles that have been released from the upcoming album are “In The Theater of Fire” and “Killing Floor” with music video.
Little Lotus tells a tale about corrupted beauty and combines the freezing north wind with an atmospheric verse, brought to life by Otto Haalahti‘s beautiful guitar playing. Creating the song and filming the music video were experiences that happened exactly at the right time for the band.
“The idea for Little Lotus came from the guitar melody in the song’s verse. Originally I composed the melody on my keyboard, but later on I changed it to be played by the guitar. Little Lotus was easy to shape into its final form and everyone in our band agreed that we just have to shoot a music video for it. It is fun to play and I can’t wait to play it live at our concert at On The Rocks in Helsinki!” – Antti Kopra, keyboards
The band has been recording the new album within the last year and it was carefully put together, taking every detail into consideration. The album “Arctic Atlas” will be released in spring 2023, digitally as well as physically.

“Working with Averlanche has been interesting and almost felt like time travelling. We have been working on the album for about a year, from demo sessions unto arrangement and production. We started building the album from the many new songs Antti Kopra brought to the table. Little Lotus was the first song that stuck out to us, since it isn’t the typical sound one would expect from Averlanche. The main melody is annoyingly catchy.
