Shortly before the release of the third part of the Melmoth trilogy, AARA unexpectedly unveil two unorthodox and extraordinaire tracks of melodic Black Metal. The post-Black Metal vibe as well as the calmer, almost Shoegazing moments and the distinct production grant the songs a melancholic and ethereal mood. “Phthonos“, thus, evokes a spectacular play between light and darkness.
The digital 2-track-EP is officially released via Debemur Morti Productions and can be listened to in full on the label’s YouTube channel and via Bandcamp.
The Swiss band worked together with an external sound engineer for the first time, namely well-known German producer Markus Stock (EMPYRIUM, ALCEST). Accordingly, “Phthonos” represents a musical experiment and a new approach to AARA‘s Art. Composer and guitarist Berg narrates:
“It was an interesting experience to attempt at creating music outside of the Triade series. We were mainly interested in finding out how AARA‘s sound would work with a different production, and I think it would definitely be an option. If we will work further with that kind of sound remains to be seen. Compositionally, however, we are certainly going in a different direction than what you can hear on “Phthonos” after the completion of the Melmoth series. The whole next concept album is already written, and it is quite different to the Triade albums, the “Phthonos” EP as well as the two previous long players. But maybe we will stick to that ‘more organic’ sound. We will see!“
More on AARA
Switzerland’s AARA was founded in 2018 by vocalist Fluss and multi-instrumentalist Berg to create art highly influenced by atmospheric Black Metal. Sporting an epic, classical feel, their sweeping compositions aim to take the listener through the darkest alleys of human existence.
Soon after releasing their debut record “So fallen alle Tempel” in early 2019, AARA joined forces with Debemur Morti Productions, releasing their mosaic EP “Anthropozän” that same year.
Barely a year after their debut, AARA unveiled a new full-length record in April of 2020. A conceptual look into Europe’s Age of Enlightenment, “En Ergô Einai” sees AARA take their accomplished sound to new heights of mature artistic expression. Opened with a haunting acoustic intro courtesy of Vindsval (BLUT AUS NORD), “En Ergô Einai” is a triumph of fluid melodic euphoria and classical elegance, setting an even higher watermark in a bright, young discography. The third album and beginning of a trilogy, namely “Triade I: Eos“, was released in March 2021. In this epic and dramatic new work of art, AARA are interpreting the Gothic novel “Melmoth The Wanderer” (1820) of Irish writer Charles Robert Maturin.
Venturing forth into the next chapters of Maturin‘s work, AARA crafted the second part of their trilogy, “Triade II: Hemera“. The six tracks of brutally melodic, top-tier Black Metal will be released on May 13th, 2022. Recordings for the third and final album of the Melmoth trilogy have already begun.

Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke to guitarist Chris Impellitteri about Impellitteri’s new three album Anthology ‘Wake of the Beast’ via Global Rock Records.
Chris also gave an update on the band’s new up and coming studio album and discussed the band’s Christian labeling that has been going on for years.
When asked about the new three album anthology Impellitteri ‘Wake of the Beast’ on Global Rock Records “Global Rock Records is re-releasing (distributing) our back catalog so this is kind of exciting for us. It’s been a long time coming, basically we got the legal rights back to our masters and we always pledged that once we did that we would release the back catalog in all the countries that we never distributed our product before. Hence that was really how we initiated this. This is music that was never really accessible to many countries globally and so and it’s interesting because I think maybe the success we’ve had in places like Japan some places in Continental Europe have kind of spilled over into other countries and there seemed to be this interest that was generated on the band. Unfortunately a lot of kids or the people that embrace our music we’re kind of forced to pay these outrageous export or import prices. So really the whole idea behind this release is to get the music to them at a very reasonable price with the exception of the albums ‘Venom’ and ‘The Nature of the Beast’ which were still signed to we’re still signed to Frontiers for Europe and North America and JBC Victor entertainment for Japan or rather all of Asia. So we got the Masters back, at least legally and then we kind of put a plan together to figure out what are the songs that our fans over the years have kind of embraced, the songs that struck a chord or resonated with them. So ultimately we spent probably about a month or two just kind of digging into our discography trying to figure out what kind of music we want to share with the world that has never heard. So we really sat down and discussed the fan favorites we even would go on to things like YouTube and we’d read the comments. It was pretty easy once you do that, you kind of get a sense of what people like or don’t like. “
When asked if Impellitteri is a Christian Band as labeled by so many over the years “We’re not a Christian band we’ve never been. For me personally, I’m a Christian right. Rob Rock is a Christian. So I believe very much in Jesus Christ, that’s who I am personally. So if someone loves Beelzebub so be it. But the band as far as getting labeled (Christian) I’m thinking dude where’d that come from I mean it never started that way, I mean listen to Impellitteri the Black E.P.? In the late 80s when we first came out, we were so burnt out on every other band which was was like sex, drugs rock and roll. Okay great, we get it, we believe we lived a life of decadence, we were part of the Sunset Strip, we were part of that crowd. We did it right. But musically we just didn’t want to be like all the other bands at that time. It’s like okay great you slept with her last night and the next girl, whatever it’s like okay who cares you know we wanted stuff to be more intriguing. So Rob (Rock) he took a lot of the content that you hear lyrically and the music that we do and he extracted right from the Bible. And look, you go into areas like Armageddon, that kind of stuff, it’s you know more like the end of the world kind of stuff . I mean dude what gets scarier than that? To me it is cooler, it’s really cool. Believe me, lyrically he’ll (Rob Rock) do stuff from Book of Revelations big time, maybe even like from Psalms, you know Psalms. At the end of the day I love it because it makes the lyric have almost like a theatrical content, there’s in-depth meaning. Also Rob is cunning he writes in a way that you could interpret it outside of the biblical, you could apply it to everyday life. You look at some of the black metal bands and especially more of the Satanic bands and I’m always laughing, you want to go up against us? Remember we’re gonna win, good always wins over evil dude.”
When asked about an update on the new Impellitteri album they are working on “We’re in the middle of our new record, we owe Frontiers and JVC Victor another record and we started recording probably halfway through the pandemic. I should say, we started writing and recording and we probably have about another three or four months to go. So the plan is we’re going to probably release the new record I would assume probably middle of 2023 or maybe towards Summer. We got three or four songs that are finished recording but we still have about another 12 songs to go and it’s written, the music’s written now but now it’s actually performing it and we’re always the type band that we don’t we don’t try to do this where hey let’s just all send files, we really try to go in the rehearsal studios rehearse so we can we can play this stuff live and then we go into the studio. A lot of times we try to track as much as possible live and then we’ll go in we’ll add the layers and all the big you know overdubs and orchestration whatever we feel is missing right to capture that power, So that’s kind of our process. After the new album is done we’re gonna go play everywhere that will have us so that’s going to be unique for us. We’ve always done Japan, we’ve done some of the major festivals in Europe a couple years ago. We did some secret kind of live rehearsal shows. We did it in New Jersey, Connecticut, New York City, we had a blast it was so much fun. “
When asked about musical direction on the new album “I think our records mature over the years because look to this day at my age and doing this so long. I still love playing guitar. I play like six to eight ten hours a day sometimes because I love it. So every day I play I explore the instrument I realize oh my God this is really cool and I learned something new theoretically. And I’m able to somehow mature as a musician by implementing whatever I learn each day so every time we do a record it always sounds like Impellitteri and I always will because it’s Rob’s voice it’s my guitar playing Etc. I think the music and the composing part of it always matures and we get a little better right each time at least I hope we do. So on this one we’re definitely bringing in more orchestration. It’s still going to have a lot of the fast double bass stuff, there’s a lot of really cool technical stuff, a lot of the screaming vocals, big three-part harmonies because again Queen. We love that stuff, at least the heavier part of Queen. As we get older we always tend to push ourselves to get a little bit more aggressive and a little faster. I listen to so much music, a lot of bands, even guys that are friends that I know in bands. I mean I love bands like Arch Enemy and so I let that stuff kind of spill over and influence me a little bit. I like Avenged Sevenfold. I love Slipknot, so I love a lot of the new bands but then also I’ll go back and listen to an old Deep Purple album like Machine Head , which I love. Then of course I listen to a lot of Vivaldi like the Four Seasons, the violin concerto’s all that fun stuff and so all of this is like it’s affecting me. I’m a sponge. So all of the stuff I’ve been listening to and I’m sure somehow it’s going to spill out into this new record although it still sounds like Impellitteri. “

Australian metallers LORD have posted online their full show pro-shot video performance at ProgPower USA 2016.
LORD shared: “Friends! Due to a number of factors which ultimately made little sense for the band, we have made the decision to remove our show for LORD – Live at ProgPower USA XVII from Vimeo where it was being hosted exclusively. We’ll spare you the details but long story short, it was not viable to continue hosting on the platform and unfortunately there were no alternatives that we wished to use.
So what now? Well, later this month we’ll be uploading the entire show onto YouTube to be accessible for free, indefinitely. It’s been a few years since release and we know that there are a lot of people who have still not seen the full show. If you’re not already subscribed to our channel, follow the link below. Every sub helps!”
The band added: “We’re excited to be launching it on our YouTube channel and have everyone get the opportunity to watch it. While this is great news for many, there will be a number of you who have previously purchased the show on Vimeo and we want to make sure that we acknowledge this.
For those who have previously bought the show, send us a DM to show us your purchase, and we’ll hook you up with a AUD$20 voucher for anything available on the store. It’s our way of saying thank you and acknowledging the impact of the decision that we have made.
Finally! Before we wrap things up we have a VERY limited number of CDs left from this release. If you don’t own the CD yet (remember, its one of the releases on the Bingo card!) then you can pick up either an autographed or non-autographed CD from our store. Only 500 of these were printed and contain 3 bonus tracks.
If you want to get an unsigned copy, use the code PPUSA and get 15% off that particular version. Reach out if you have any questions and we look forward to sharing LORD – Live at ProgPower USA XVII on YouTube later this month. Thanks for your support as always and being part of our inner circle.
Critically acclaimed post-metallers EARTHRISE have revealed their final single, “The New Man,” ahead of next week’s release of the band’s long-awaited sophomore album, “Until We Rest Beneath the Winter Way,” due out October 14th. The “epic, crushing new single” was first revealed at MetalInjection.net, and is now available for streaming on all services.
“Until We Rest Beneath the Winter Way“ frames vignettes into the life and times of Laika, the first animal sent into Earth’s orbit. Each track on ‘UWRBTWW’ represents a slice in history, as she endured it. The album culminates with the launch of Sputnik II, the second major event in humanity’s reach to the heavens, symbolized by a lifeless canine body orbiting the Earth for months on end — a somber meditation on humanity’s innumerable self-inflicted tragedies, as if stuck in orbit, forever.
“Our third single, The New Man, is the first track on the album and sets the political lens through which Laika’s story is viewed. After the successful launch of Sputnik I in October 1957 signified the dawning of the Space Age, Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev gave a surprise announcement that Sputnik II would launch in November as a further demonstration of Soviet prowess. By establishing space superiority, Soviet leaders aimed to show that communism would allow The New Man to emerge – idealized citizens made possible by an overabundance of Soviet resources and scientific development.
This idea of The New Man was propaganda. It soon became clear that advancements in the Space Race were not made solely in the name of scientific progress, but to exhibit capability of nuclear payload delivery. Soviet leaders intended to prove the USSR’S military dominance to the world and would not let anything stand in their way – least of all an insignificant stray dog.
The New Man standing as a harbinger of nuclear catastrophe is the foundation upon which Until We Rest Beneath the Winter Way is built.” – EARTHRISE

About EARTHRISE: Described by MetalSucks as “heavy-as-elephant-balls post-NeurIsis-y metal with dreamy, atmospheric guitars and sickly, downtuned doom riffs,” Earthrise was founded in 2010 by bassist Andy Rutledge, drummer Jimmy Neumann and guitarist Mike Britson (Former Worlds) who released their acclaimed debut, “Eras Lost,” in 2012. With the recent additions of Jim Schloemer on synth and Sam Halvorson on vocals, the band has emerged from a 10 year hiatus to release their cosmic followup “Until We Rest Beneath the Winter Way” – a 71-minute proggy, crushingly heavy, space rock meets post metal behemoth.
