German Folk and Medieval Rock frontrunners SUBWAY TO SALLY will release their long awaited and highly anticipated 14th studio album Himmelfahrt[EN: Ascension] in March 2023, before heading out on a big headline tour in Germany in April 2023.
The new album marks a turning point, by leaving the dystopian lyrics of predecessor HEY! (2019) behind. Himmelfahrt marks an end and a new beginning at the same time. After the oppressive years, which were characterized by narrowness and stagnation, the new songs are about departure and journey, about reaching out to others to lead them from the deepest depths into the light.
Musically, the Germans deliver the perfect mixture of popular hits and great melodies, showing SUBWAY TO SALLY on top of their game. You can feel their thirty years of stage and studio experience in every note, and their irrepressible hunger for the stage and their audience. Fans can witness one of the best live bands of the genre on their extensive headline tour in April 2023. Stay tuned for more info on the new album!

September 30, 2022 (Los Angeles, Calif.) – Intense new track titled “Fight Alone,” from alternative metal band, Motive Black (AFM Records) drops today. Produced by Grammy-winner Nick Rowe (Bloodsimple, Vampire Weekend), the track showcases the vocal prowess of frontwoman Elana Justin, and features Ray Luzier (Korn) on drums and Nick Rowe on guitar, bass and co-songwriting credits.
“This song is about losing yourself in passion,”Elana Justin says. “Attraction is a powerful thing, it can be amazing, but also vicious. It can engulf you, and cloud your mind, but also awaken you in ways you never thought possible. Everything feels dangerous and so alive.” She adds: “This song was super intense to create. It’s dark, vivid, and emotional. I felt really raw and almost animalistic when I was writing it. When Ray came in and added drums it brought everything to a new level that I believe only he is capable of tapping into.”
Ray Luzier says “Elana’s a very powerful, emotional singer. Her aggressive yet dynamic lyrics are refreshing to hear. I think this record is gonna turn a lot of heads. We really need great, fresh-sounding, new music like Motive Black, now more than ever!!”
The track will be on the upcoming album titled Auburn. Justin says ” Auburn is named for my sister who unfortunately passed away. She had beautiful auburn hair. Losing her forced me to reexamine my life and make significant changes. I went through a huge transitional period which included both ugly and beautiful experiences. The album is a wild ride through that journey of anger, mania, deep love, and self discovery.”
“Fight Alone” was produced at the legendary NRG Studios in North Hollywood, Calif. by Grammy-winning Nick Rowe (Vampire Weekend, Lamb Of God, Madonna, Snoop Dogg) and mixed by Josh Wilbur (Lamb of God, Korn, Papa Roach). Motive Black will appeal to fans of Evanescence, Delain, Follow The Cypher, The Pretty Reckless, Halestorm, New Years Day, In This Moment, Shinedown.
Indiana blues-rock outfit THE COLD STARES have announced ‘Voices,’ their new full-length album, out March 10th via Mascot Records. Recorded almost entirely over the course of just two days with producer/engineer/mixer Mark Needham (Taj Mahal, The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Walk the Moon, Fleetwood Mac), the album stands as the band’s most mature, eclectic collection yet, balancing gritty muscle and tender emotion in equal measure. To celebrate the announcement, the band has unveiled an official music video for the album’s lead single “The Joy,” which draws from Pink Floyd as it revels in the happiness that comes with finding your true soulmate.
“This song takes a step outside of our normal catalog and tackles the topic of finding happiness after heartache,” guitarist/vocalist Chris Tapp explains. “I think it will connect with those people that have overcome trials, and those who have survived toxic relationships and finally found happiness.”
For the past ten years, The Cold Stares have toured the world relentlessly as a duo, blowing away audiences across the US and Europe with a fierce, blistering live show that belied their bare bones, guitar-and-drums setup. Now, the band is embracing a whole new kind of chemistry as they launch their next chapter, adding a third member and channeling the classic power trio sound they grew up on with their explosive new album. “The chains were off when we made this record,” says Tapp. “Suddenly, all the parameters that had dictated what we could and couldn’t do just disappeared and we were free to create whatever sound we wanted.”
That sense of total artistic liberation lies at the heart of Voices, which pushes The Cold Stares’ signature mix of blues, southern, and hard rock to bold new heights. It would have been easy for Tapp and drummer Brian Mullins to simply crank the volume here, but instead they make the most of bassist Bryce Klueh’s arrival by getting more nuanced and adventurous in their approach, chasing a raw, unvarnished sound that manages to feel both vintage and modern all at once. Add it all up and you’ve got a gutsy, cinematic record that’s as honest as it is exhilarating, a high-octane dose of unadulterated rock and roll that tips its cap to everything from Cream to Led Zeppelin as it reckons with love and loss, sin and redemption, hope and regret.
“A lot of these tunes deal with really personal things that have been on my mind for a while,” says Tapp. “I just had to live enough life and get enough experience under my belt to know how to talk about them, to know how to feel comfortable opening up those veins and sharing whatever came out.”
Characters fueled by similarly desperate longings—for hope, for purpose, for comfort—turn up throughout the record. The haunting “The Ghost” channels the redemptive fervor of a Sunday morning tent revival, while the epic anthem “Nothing But The Blues” wrestles with hard times in a down-and-out town.
“Nothing But The Blues is kind of a continuation of the theme of our song ‘Hard Times,’” adds tapp. “I was thinking about what it takes to play ‘authentic blues,’ which traditionally meant suffering through the horrors of the old south. In my mind, there are so many things that can definitely set you down in the blues in the current world we live in.”
Launched in 2012, The Cold Stares got their start when longtime friends Tapp and Mullins agreed to team up for a fill-in gig that caught them both by surprise. With a sound far bigger than any duo should rightfully have been able to create, the pair of Kentucky natives began turning heads almost immediately, releasing a series of acclaimed albums that landed them on the road with the likes of Larkin Poe, Rival Sons, Reignwolf, Spoon, Grand Funk Railroad, and Thievery Corp, among others. American Songwriter praised the group’s “hard-won commitment, honesty, and intensity,” while No Depression hailed their sound as a “roots rocking firestorm,” and tunes from their albums turned up everywhere from ESPN and TNT to the hit video game Cyberpunk 2077.
After wrapping up touring for 2021’s ‘Heavy Shoes’ (their fifth studio album and debut release for Mascot Records), Tapp and Mullins returned to their adopted hometown of Evansville, Indiana, with a decision to make. The band’s sound had been growing increasingly elaborate in the studio, but unless they wanted to start playing along to pre-recorded backing tracks onstage, they were reaching a point where they wouldn’t be able to faithfully replicate their tunes anymore as a duo.
“We’d been a two-piece for a decade, so it wasn’t something we took lightly,” says Tapp. “But we’d also known Bryce for a long time and knew he’d fit right in.”

Rising Finnish metal act CHRONOFORM released a new single, Into the Abyss, on October 5th 2022. The digital release can be listened to in all streaming services. Into the Abyss marks the band’s first release since the 2020 full-length album, Myoni.
Here’s a few words from the guys: “Into the Abyss is our first single after the release of Myoni, and at the same time the first release in two years. In these two years our sound has matured even further, and we’d like to think of the new single as a comeback of some sorts. The melancholic but energetic song showcases the best songwriting by us so far. Crushing blast beats accompanied with a massive chorus immediately wow the listener, and new levels appear with each listening.”

Swedish Death Metallers DEFLESHED have set October 28th as release date for their new full-length “Grind Over Matter“! For a preview of the album, a new lyric video (created by Angus Norder) for the single ‘Bent Out Of Shape’ can be viewed below.
Comments Gustaf Jorde: “‘Bent out of Shape’ is the opening track of our new album! A ball busting song about rebelling the ideas of uniformity, accompanied by the footage of Angus Norder (Witchery/Necrocraft). Rejoice with the noise!“
Afterwards make sure to head over to metalblade.com/defleshed where you can watch the video (directed by Magnus Ewald) for the title track and first single ‘Grind Over Matter’!
“Grind Over Matter” was tracked at Rorysound Studios, Uppsala, Sweden, with Lawrence Mackrory, with two weeks devoted to drums, another two for guitar and bass and two three-day sessions for vocals. “It was pretty straightforward, the hardest part was to not get carried away by impulsive ideas too much, but stay put to the original plan,” says Jorde.

From the mid-90s to 2005, Sweden’s Defleshed churned out a hot blend of thrash, death metal and grindcore, marking themselves as one of the most vital bands in all three of those genres. Having run out of inspiration and wanting to try other things they called it a day the same year they released their fifth album “Reclaim The Beat“, and ever since fans have hollered for their reunion. In 2021 they got what they were asking for when the band’s core lineup – guitarist Lars Löfven, drummer Matte Modin and bassist/vocalist Gustaf Jorde – got back together. They released the “Fleshless And Wild” single the same year and are now looking forward to releasing “Grind Over Matter” on October 28th!
