Heaven and Hell Records delivers the pomp in September with limited remastered CD reissues of MERE MORTALS‘ debut 1986 album ‘Omnia In Numeris Sita Sunt’ and the 1987 follow-up ‘Immortalized’.
MERE MORTALS‘ origins would begin as an enigmatic progressive hard rock band on the Upstate New York club circuit named LUFTWAFFE. While performing the band’s final show, band leader and main songwriter Robert Acquaviva decided to take the band in a new, more adult-oriented rock direction, focusing on keyboard-driven songs with catchy hooks and harmonies. Keeping with the same line-up of guitarist Bob Francis Acquaviva, bassist Paul St. James, drummer Tony Stone and vocalist David Paul Slife, the band would change their name to MERE MORTALS.
MERE MORTALS would waste no time heading into the studio to begin laying down tracks. One of the first songs recorded would be a cover of the infamous Benny Mardones hit ‘Into The Night’. As the writing continued, the addition of keyboardist Vince Cavo into the band would increase the caliber of their material.
MERE MORTALS would record 14-tracks, only 10 of which would be used for their debut album ‘Omnia In Numeris Sita Sunt’. Included would be the single ‘Laura’. Both ‘Laura’ and ‘Into the Night’ would receive much regional airplay that helped to create a buzz for the band.
Quickly taking advantage of the hype, MERE MORTALS return to the studio three months after the release to record their follow-up ‘Immortalized’ released in 1987. The album consisted of nine new songs that the band had already been performing live. As with the debut, the band would receive much praise and radio play regional as well as television spots. The band would play several opening spots for national touring acts such as Patti Smyth, Benny Mardones, Taylor Dane and others in support of the release. Within that same year, after a member’s departure and some attempts to shift around members, MERE MORTALS would end up playing their last show as the band and ended as the following year began.
For the first time on CD, both of these 80s pomp rock/AOR obscurities will be remastered and reissued. Both releases will include; extended booklets with photos, complete lyrics, write-ups by Bob Acquaviva and never-before-released bonus tracks.

Finnish heavy hardcore band SARS have released a new single HATE WILL GROW. The song will be included in their upcoming debut EP and is the group’s first release without their former co-vocalist Keijo Niinimaa.
The song was inspired by the absurdity of US gun legislation, with the theme visualized in the new music video created with Pyry Salminen from production company Stone Films.
October 7, 2022 will see Canadian melodic metal act, BOREALIS, return with their fifth studio album, entitled “Illusions”, on AFM Records. With their critically acclaimed debut in 2008, BOREALIS took the heavy music scene by storm, and seen them opening for several metal greats such as Epica, Sonata Artica, Saxon or Kamelot to name just a few.
Now, four years since 2018’s “The Offering”, Illusions arguably marks the bands most complete album to date while adding more orchestral elements and darker themes. The album not only introduces composer and multi-instrumentalist Vikram Shankar (Silent Skies, Redemption, Lux Terminus), who was brought in to compose all of the orchestra and synth elements, but the record is also a continuation of the story from “The Offering”, taking place years later through the eyes of the children and how the traumatic events they experienced has shaped their lives.
Following the previously-released, first single, “Pray For Water”, BOREALIS have just shared a second album sneak peak, with a colossal music video for new track “Ashes Turn To Rain”!
“It’s only taken us 15 years, but we’re finally releasing our first official music video for our next single off of ‘Illusions’ called Ashes Turn To Rain,” says guitarist Ken Fobert. “Being our first video, we wanted to do something a little special for it. It’s not only a band-performance video for Ashes Turn To Rain, with the help of our director, Jeremy Tredenick (JReelVisuals), we also incorporated a storyline and visuals to accompany the self-titled opening track for the album. The video features Scandinavian film composer and vocalist, Christine Hals, who not only contributed her unique primal scream vocals but a stunning mountaintop performance as well. Ya! It’s pretty epic and we can’t wait for everyone to see it!”
“We are so excited to release this new record, considering how long it’s been and what the world has been through over the last 2 years!“ Marinelli said recently. “With the extra time we had with this one, we feel like these are some of the best songs we’ve ever written. Some of the songs were written way back in 2019 so we’ve had time to really perfect them.”
“Illusions” was produced by BOREALIS, engineered and mixed by the band‘s drummer, Sean Dowell, and was mastered by Thomas “Plec “ Johansson. Slated for a release on October 7th, the album pre-sale is available at THIS LOCATION!

Italian doom metal group (EchO) has released the second single from their upcoming album “Witnesses”, which will be out November 25 on Black Lion Records. “Wanderer” comes along with a brand new music video and features Don Zaros of the mighty Evoken on keys.
Vocalist Fabio Urietti comments: “Like many others, I suffered loneliness in the last two years, but here’s a different matter. As we have not been able to process what was taking place in our lives, we were not given any possibilities to be able to start again. The individual, in a rudderless world, fells even more alone. No space for weakness, no space for recovery. To lead exclusively by rage and inner forces, each one of us has done his journey.“
“Witnesses” was mixed by Francesco Genduso and mastered by Greg Chandler. Guest appearances by Heike Langhans (ex Draconian), Francesco Bassi,Alexander Högbom and Don Zaros (Evoken). The stunning artwork was done by Adam Robert Martin. “Witnesses” is available for pre-order HERE
