Dark neo-folk collective VÉVAKI will be releasing its sophomore full-length, ‘Fórnspeki,’ on October 28, 2022 via Season of Mist, making it the band’s debut to the label! The nordic folk newcomers are now releasing a brand new single, “Gestaþáttr,” which can be heard at THIS LOCATION.
Originally a solo project by singer and multi-instrumentalist Will Hunter, VÉVAKI is a folk band which draws from Nordic heathenism and animistic traditions. Myth, ritual and a connection with the natural world inform VÉVAKI’s music, which is both contemporary in sound and wide-ranging in instrumentation.
VÉVAKI comment on the song: “‘Gestaþáttr’ is the first part of the poem ‘Hávamál’ (the sayings of Hár) which covers how to be a good guest and a good host, as well as containing many other mysterious verses of gnomic wisdom. Since this song is based in Eddic poetry, we decided to do a lyric video so you could see the old Icelandic and English translations side by side.”
The record is now available for pre-ordering in the Season of Mist store HERE and can be pre-saved across streaming services HERE.
Swedish Heavy Metallers TRIAL (Swe) have set September 2nd as release date for their new full-length ‘Feed The Fire‘! For a preview of the album, a new video (directed by Christoffer Tönnäng) for the single ‘In The Highest’ can be viewed below:
You can still watch the video for the first single “Sulphery” at: metalblade.com/trial – where ‘Feed The Fire‘ can also be pre-ordered in various formats.
Twin guitars, romping rhythms, towering vocals and distinctive melodies – heavy metal is alive and well in the hands of Trial (Swe). Returning five years after 2017’s ‘Motherless‘ with new vocalist Arthur W. Andersson on board, the quintet is hungry, and it shows in the tracks that comprise the mighty ‘Feed The Fire‘, perhaps the most urgent record in their repertoire. “Hearing Arthur’s voice made me want to write more up-tempo songs,” explains lead guitarist Alexander Ellström. “That desire didn’t occur to me prior to him joining. We owe him a lot in shaping the new record after his voice. The result is a fast-paced, ferocious yet melodic album, and is about giving everything for something you hold dear, and letting it ruin you. This is visualized through a canticle of a goddess. For me, the goddess is very specific, I know who the goddess is, and what she means for me. Are you willing to find your equivalent and let it engulf you? I will happily feed the fire knowing what I get in return.“
Recorded at Welfare Sounds in Gothenburg, with Per Stålberg, Kalle Lilja and Olle Björk as engineers and producers, the band were in the studio every day for almost two weeks, and they approached recording differently than before. “On this album we focused more on playing with feel rather than perfection. In the past, we could spend too much time on parts that ultimately didn’t end up better than the first takes we did. This time around we all felt much more relaxed about the situation, knowing what was needed of us to perform.” The band also recruited none other than Tomas “Tompa” Lindberg from At The Gates to do some vocals on the song “Snare Of The Fowler”.
‘Feed the Fire‘ track listing: 01. Tria Prima 02. Sulphery 03. Thrice Great Path 04. In the Highest 05. Snare of the Fowler 06. Feed the Fire 07. The Faustus Hood 08. Quadrivium 09. The Crystal Sea
CD Bonus Tracks: 10. Sisters of the Moon 11. Die Young
Heavy horror punk icon WEDNESDAY 13 has slithered his way to the top of the horrendous heights of rock, punk and metal with his electrifying solo music and as frontman of renowned horror punk supergroup Murderdolls, amassing a colossal cult-following along the way. On October 7, 2022, the undisputed harbinger of metal horror returns, following up on 2019’s acclaimed Necrophaze (#2 US Heatseekers) with Horrifier – a brand new slathering of 11 terrifyingly grim and groovy anthems to get blood pumping and brains melting!
Showcasing a blend of styles plucked from the band’s 20-year career, Horrifier weaves an underlying sonic thread reminiscent of WEDNESDAY 13’s roots – a raucous blend of ballistic metal and macabre heavy rock that’ll have new and diehard fans alike ascending from the depths. As always, various tracks on the album are inspired by classic horror flicks, this time circling cult-favorite slasher John Carpenter’sHalloween and the iconic Christine supernatural thrillers.
Today, get a first listen to Horrifier with the album’s first single, “You’re so Hideous”, out now and accompanied by an Exorcist inspired official music video! The track stuns with danceable 90s sonic flavor, a sing-a-long chorus and an unforgettable lead riff that is sure to be heard at venues this fall!
WEDNESDAY 13 says about “You’re so Hideous”: “’You’re so Hideous’ is such a catchy track and it’s one of the very first ones I wrote for the album. Lyrically, it’s a modern day Medusa story… Beware the stare into her eyes. The music video was of course inspired by the Exorcist film and was a lot of fun recreating that.”
WEDNESDAY 13’s ninth full-length album kicks off with eerie introductory track “Severed” before careening into one of the band’s heaviest songs ever recorded, the massive, slow and low “Insides Out”, accented by hair-raising guitar leads and slithering vocals. The aggressive, industrial-edged “Exhume and Devour” and warning sing-a-long single “You’re so Hideous” pick up the pace with danceable 90s sonic vigor, while surefire hit “Good Day to Be a Bad Guy” aces the pure horror punk spirit of Murderdolls as a downright blissful tongue-in-cheek earworm that’ll seep into the listener’s head on repeat. John Carpenter’sHalloweeninspired anthem “Return to Haddonfield” convinces with marching gang vocals and a searing metallic guitar solo before the pace picks up again on fast-riffing, mosh-ready title track “Horrifier”. Southern-fried metal tinged “Hell Is Coming” is one of the album’s best displays of stylistic versatility, accented by an impressively commanding vocal performance while pumping out a thrash-worthy breakdown and blues rock solo. “Halfway to the Grave” sees the band echoing 80s flavor accented by memorable leads and imploring lyrics before leading into the charging Christine themed album standout “Christine: Fury in the Night”, featuring pounding drums, an unforgettable hook and a transfixing guitar lead that quite literally drives. Horrifier closes with its most heartfelt track, “The Other Side” – a personal ode WEDNESDAY 13 penned about the sudden loss of his mother, as well as former Murderdolls bandmate Joey Jordison – but that also shines as a vital anthem made further pertinent after recent years of intense worldwide loss and reflection.
Horrifier wasproduced and recorded by WEDNESDAY 13 with mixing and mastering by Brent Clawson, and features stunning album artwork by Jonny Bush. A dynamic journey into the 20-year career-spanning sound of WEDNESDAY 13, Horrifier revitalizes with something for every listener to latch onto – boasting intensely fun horror punk energy with gruesome metallic attitude!
WEDNESDAY 13 offers about Horrifier: “The last three releases have seen the band explore new ground with heavier songs, drums, and vocals. Coming out of the Covid crisis, I promised I would not release a sad, depressing record. I wanted to make a fun, horror themed rock record that would be reminiscent of the first few WEDNESDAY 13 records. The new album is a fun, fast-paced, thriller!”
Horrifier track listing: 1. Severed 2. Insides Out 3. Exhume and Devour 4. You’re so Hideous 5. Good Day to Be a Bad Guy 6. Return to Haddonfield 7. Horrifier 8. Hell Is Coming 9. Halfway to the Grave 10. Christine: Fury in the Night 11. The Other Side

ROYAL HUNT is mixing their new studio album “Dystopia. Part 2”, set to be released on October 26th via King Records (Japan/SE Asia) and on October 28th via Northpoint Productions (EU/N & S America). The second and final part of the concept will again feature guest performers: Mats Leven (TSO, Skyblood, Vandenberg), Mark Boals (Y.J. Malmsteen, Ring of Fire, Royal Hunt), Henrik Brockman (Royal Hunt, Evil Masquerade, N´Tribe), Kenny Lubcke (Narita, Zoser Mez) and Alexandra Andersen (Royal Hunt, JSP). “Dystopia – Part 2” will be released in following formats: regular CD, various Deluxe editions/bundles and a gatefold, heavy vinyl double LP (availability date pending).
MESSAGE FROM THE BAND:
“Hey all.
Good news from the NorthPoint dungeon: “Dystopia – Part 2” is at the mixing stage.
So far it sounds quite a bit edgier than its predecessor, but fear not – it´s still very much Royal Hunt.
The word´s out that this album will contain 9 tracks with running time just under an hour, mastering session has already been booked and we all simply can´t wait to let you hear the result – should be epic.
So wish us luck and – Cheers!
André, RH”
ROYAL HUNT keep expanding their trademark sound. As the story which inspired the project – Ray Bradbury´s classic novel “Fahrenheit 451” – gets more intense towards the end, the music turns into more dynamic, heavier direction. Once again the guest singers add even more dramatic contrasts to an already cinematic yet solidly rocking soundscape.
Simply a “must have” for any symfo/prog/power fan out there!
Band adds, “Thinking back to the release date of the “Part 1” back in 2020 makes you realize what a crazy time we all went through just during the last two years: who could have imagined that our “Dystopia” – project would reflect the harsh reality in such detail? And the madness is still ongoing. In any case, “Dystopia – Part 2” is even more relevant today than ever: we followed the general concept yet filled it up with images of current events in order to make it resonate with every person, everybody living through 2020 to 2022 and watching insanity to unfold in real time”.
ROYAL HUNT run a crowdfunding campaign for “Dystopia – Part 2” – one gets access to bonus videos, listening parties and early access to the album – by pre-ordering the deluxe edition of the album or any bundle at royalhunt.com
“DYSTOPIA – PART 1” was released on December 16th, 2020 via King Records (Japan/SE Asia) and on January 15th via NorthPoint Productions (Europe/N & S America). “Dystopia – Part 1” is available on ALL digital platforms (as MP3, FLAC), and as a regular CD (jewel case), various deluxe editions / bundles and a double heavy vinyl LP.
