Maryland death metal trio YATRA are today premiering their new single, Reign of Terror, and its accompanying lyric video via Distorted Sound. Reign of Terror is the third single to be taken from the group’s upcoming fourth album, Born into Chaos, which is set for release via Prosthetic Records on June 10. Alongside the premiere, YATRA are set to head out on the Born into Chaos North American headlining tour – with more info on the May and June dates below.
Speaking on the premiere, Dana Helmuth (guitar / vocals) comments: “Reign Of Terror is about the inquisition, old and new. The witch hunt, metaphorically. The dark ages and the torture. The division it caused and how it relates to the current division and accusation in the forms of mental slavery and mind control . Free speech and thought, personal freedoms, as well as spiritual and cultural practices are rapidly now being censored and misinterpreted intentionally.
“More and more books are being banned or censored, discussion about controversial subjects leads to extreme false accusations. Abortion rights are being challenged, races are being separated again, as well as spiritual and cultural beliefs vilified . Historically these types of evil control have always been born and waged during, and after, great plagues and famines and wars.”
Written during the pandemic, Born into Chaos combines the uncertainty of the times and the desire to push forward at all costs. The group often jammed, while Helmuth constantly wrote, always looking to up his game. Riffs were hammered out via voice recorder and exchanged with drummer Lafferty and bassist Geisbert to keep the collaboration between members alive and productive. All eight songs were birthed frenzied and combative. Clearly, YATRA weren’t ready to capitulate or sacrifice re-discovered instinct.
Born into Chaos was recorded by YATRA, engineered by Noel Mueller (Foehammer, Myopic) at Tiny Castle Recording in Towson, Maryland. Mueller also handled the mix. The band then onboarded Brad Boatright (Sleep, Monolord) at Audiosiege in Portland, Oregon, to master. The team’s primary goal was to give YATRA heft, grit, and power on new songs like Born into Chaos, Terrorizer and Tormentation. Truly, from the first to the last spin, there’s no escape from YATRA’s feral charge on Born into Chaos.
Like their 2020 full length, All is Lost, YATRA’s Born into Chaos will come adorned in a Paolo Girardi (Power Trip, Black Breath) while also revealing a revamped logo by renowned artist Mark Riddick (Nunslaughter, Revel in Flesh). Draped in straightforward yet probing lyrics and supported by a killer horror-inspired video for Terminate by the Sword, Born into Chaos exposes the bone of YATRA’s complete transformation. The group’s new album will see them chart new courses for North America and Europe in 2022 and 2023.

Norwegian nihilists BLACK VOID have unleashed their new record “Antithesis” – a bold debut filled with nihilistic aggression and desperation – it is furious and unrepentant in attitude. It builds on the philosophical works of Friedrich Nietzsche while leaning on punk rock and black metal. Nihilistic, filthy, violent and raw.
Together with the album release, they also present their new single ‘Void’. Check it out here:
Lars Are Nedland comments: “There’s an existential void that humanity is constantly trying to fill. The idea that life has no inherent value seems to be a bitter pill for us to swallow. Nietzsche wrote about the consequences of the lack of meaning, knowledge and morality, and ‘Antithesis’ can be seen as a soundtrack to his unmasking of the motives that underlie traditional Western religion, morality, and philosophy. Enjoy the ensuing chaos.”
Hard rock band WHITE VOID’s debut record “Anti” (also on Nuclear Blast) was one of last year’s most colourful and surprising releases, hailed by a collective metal press as an absolute whirlwind of occult rock and melodic new wave. But vocalist and band frontman Lars Are Nedland – also a long-time member of BORKNAGAR and SOLEFALD – clearly needed a contrast to all the colour and flamboyance, and thus BLACK VOID forced itself into being. Not a band for waiting, the debut album “Antithesis” was recorded almost immediately – a grimy contrast to WHITE VOID’s colourful and melodic outlet.
BLACK VOID is a punk laden, black metal infused band spearheaded by Lars Are Nedland, and completed by drummer Tobias Solbakk (IHSAHN, WHITE VOID, IN VAIN) and guitarist Jostein Thomassen (BORKNAGAR, PROFANE BURIAL).
In many ways BLACK VOID is the flipside of WHITE VOID: A full-on rejection of the philosophy of Albert Camus and an endorsement of Friedrich Nietzsche, a full-on rejection of a soft, melodic approach to music and a full-on rejection of a playful, tongue-in-cheek attitude. With that as a backdrop, “Antithesis” becomes an album that pays respect to fifty years of punk and forty years of black metal – a musical equivalent of a punk with a Mohawk fighting a dude in corpse paint.
Add to that guest vocal appearances by black metal royalties Sakis Tolis of ROTTING CHRIST and Hoest of TAAKE, “Antithesis” appears as a statement of sorts: A nihilistic musical outburst flipping off morality and hailing aggression while at the same time forcing your foot to tap to its relentless drive.
Diabolical death metal squadron BELPHEGOR have released an atmospheric video for their brand new single, “Virtus Asinaria – Prayer,” which is the second single from their upcoming twelfth full-length “The Devils”, due out on June 24th via NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS. “Virtus Asinaria – Prayer” is a change of pace with its more sustained yet inherently sinister approach, slowly luring you in with entrancing melodies and ceremonial chants that indicate impending doom. The video for the song was partially shot at the scenic and infamous Neudegg Alm in Abtenau, Austria, and it can be watched below.
HELMUTH states: „Our new video for the track “VIRTUS ASINARIA – PRAYER” pairs BELPHEGOR´s bizarre live procession with an intimate ritual of sulphur, passion & blood. For he shall rise, heretic goat of flesh & lust! It stands for what BELPHEGOR has always stood: liberty and the everlasting spiritual & bodily manisfestation of carnal sin upon this rotten world!” In Musick, Helmuth
With “The Devils”, long-running diabolical black death metal titans BELPHEGOR unleash their twelfth studio album upon the masses, which proves to be one of the strongest and most elaborate records in the group’s career. Mixed & mastered at renowned Fascination Street Studios by Jens Bogren (Kreator, Dimmu Borgir, At The Gates), “The Devils” sounds absolutely crushing and dynamic, sonically pushing the immense variety of the eight tracks to new heights.
Blending German, Latin and English lyrics, lead single “Totentanz – Dance Macabre” is as ferocious as it gets with its insane barrage of blast beats, spiteful lyrics, and sinister guitar melodies. “Glorifizierung des Teufels” (‘Glorification of the Devil’) and “Virtus Asinaria –Prayer” offer epic, mid-paced grandeur, chanted vocals and choirs adding new shades of black to their stylistic palette. The title-track or “Damnation – Höllensturz” prove to be more complex pieces, shifting moods and tempos with ease and expanding BELPHEGOR’s blasphemous onslaught with fascinating twists and turns. Rounded off by impressive artwork created by Seth Siro Anton, “The Devils” marks the band’s fourth collaboration with one of metal’s most prolific designers. Ultimately, “The Devils” is an album that musically builds upon BELPHEGOR’s trademark sound, in essence a combination of traditional death and black metal, deeply rooted in the 90’s, yet boasts with intricate compositions and detailed arrangements underlining their outstanding position within the international extreme metal circuit. Known as tirelessly touring band, BELPHEGOR presented a few of the new songs during an European tour with I Am Morbid, before currently hitting South America with KRISIUN, and an intense festival season including Wacken Open Air, Bloodstock, Sweden Rock Motocultor, Mexican Metal Fest and many more.
DECAPITATED are proud to release their 8th studio album “Cancer Culture”. Its the most versatile album the band has released so far, surprising fans with elements they have never used before, such as guest appearances on vocals. Again, Jarek Szubrycht (Carnival is Forever) has written amazing lyrics about the disproportion between the dreams, ambitions, and aspirations of humanity. The leading engineer of the album was Tomasz Zed Zalewski (Anticult), David Castillo was responsible for mixing the album, and Ted Jensen for the final touch for mastering.
The amazing cover artwork comes from Fabio Timpanaro, an Italian artist whose art perfectly describes what the band wanted to tell through visual art.
Vogg states following on the release of the album: “Cancer Culture is out today!!! We’ve been waiting for this special moment for a very long time. It seems like ages, five years since our latest release “Anticult”, sixteen months of working on the “Cancer Culture” album and waiting almost a year to be able to share it with you finally. You can expect to hear various tracks, outstanding production, fantastic artwork, and of course, as always, something you have not likely to hear on the Decapitated album before. To celebrate this day, we decided to release a video for “Iconoclast”. For this occasion, we returned to the studio where all had started, where we recorded drums for the album, to feel an incredible energy and cool vibes again, while making the video. As you probably know, we have an exceptional guest, the metal legend and friend of ours, one and only Robb Flynn. His part of the track became one of my favorite parts of this album. It’s a huge honor to have Robb in this project, and I hope you will dig a song. It’s a different song, not blasting madness as most of the songs on this record but still powerful, fast, and crushing. We are giving you today the “Cancer Culture”. Decapitated is back, strong and alive! From pain to strength! Enjoy!~ Vogg”
And to celebrate the release, they have yet another surprise for their fans in store. Robb Flynn from mighty MACHINE HEAD contributes a hauntingly beautiful vocal to the track “Iconoclast”.
Flynn comments on the collaboration as follows: “When Vogg asked me to sing on this Decapitated track, I was honored to jam with pioneers and such insane musicians. When he sent the track I was blown away at this incredible melodic section in the middle. When he told me the song was called Iconoclast, I knew exactly what needed to be said. An Iconoclast is “a destroyer of images used in religious worship”. This song had to address the hateful, growing fascist Evangelical movement growing around the world. The cruel men who wish to hide their cruelty under a cloak of faith and zealotry.”
