As the music world continues to mourn the loss of Foo Fighters drummer and joyous soul who touched millions of lives, Taylor Hawkins, we are reminded that the sounds and experiences created by Hawkins and his fellow bandmates continue to live on and inspire new generations of music fans the world over. Today, Chicago’s own SOiL release a kinetic cover version of “Monkey Wrench,” the song that was, for many, their first introduction to the bleach blonde hurricane of arms and drumsticks that was Hawkins, who made his debut as the Foo’s skinman in the incredibly popular video for the song.
SOiL’s version of the track maintains the extreme high energy level of the song and offers a sneak preview of the band’s next full-length album. “So it’s time to let the cat out of the bag” SOiL states. “We completed an 11-song covers album in September of 2021 and have been delayed in releasing it due to vinyl manufacturing shortages. In that time we have experienced the tragic loss of Taylor Hawkins. On our upcoming album, we had proudly covered the Foo Fighters’ classic song ‘Monkey Wrench,’ which was an inspiration to us early on in our career. We had the pleasure to meet Taylor on several occasions and he was the most down to earth and genuine person one could imagine. He was such a fun person to be around. The world didn’t just lose one of its best drummers, it lost one of its great human beings as well. We’d like to release our version of ‘Monkey Wrench’ early to pay tribute to Taylor and the Foo Fighters. We hope it adds a little light in this dark time.”
SOiL drummer TJ Taylor added: “Taylor’s energy, talent, and unmistakable presence behind the drum kit was second to none. Nobody hit those skins harder but with such finesse. He had a smile that could be seen from the back of the stadium. You can see his pure joy and infectious enthusiasm behind the drum kit and microphone. He was the backbone and the heart of one of the greatest bands of this century. My heart goes out to his family and band. I hope they will find comfort during this difficult time. This is our tribute to Taylor, and to the Foo Fighters. RIP Taylor.”
BLACK STONE CHERRY and Mascot Records / Mascot Label Group present the official music video for “Ringin’ In My Head,” from the band’s most recent album THE HUMAN CONDITION. The album is a massive global success with over 43.5 million cumulative streams, with Ringin’ In My Head now approaching 3 million. The official video was directed by Tom J. Flynn and Mike Watts (Vudu Studios) and can be screened below.
The clip was filmed on the Young family farm in Edmonton, KY. The location might be familiar to some viewers via the session for the Magic Mountain packaging and publicity portraits captured on the land, and most notably the Kentucky Headhunters’ video for “Walk Softly On This Heart Of Mine” which was filmed partially in the same barn forty years ago. Chris Robertson shares, “In 2020, when The World seemed to be falling apart, an older song we had started a few years earlier struck a nerve with us. Lyrically it seemed too close to the times not to try and make the song something special. The result is guaranteed to give you a Ringin’ in your head.”
On August 27, 2021, Black Stone Cherry and Mascot Records released an expanded edition of the band’s seventh studio album The Human Condition digitally. Amongst the new recordings was a cover of Tracy Chapman’s classic “Give Me One Reason.” The official music video can be screened here: https://youtu.be/kcOhH9CbPRc. At the time, the band shared, “Tracy Chapman’s voice and songs are absolutely timeless. We have always been fans of her music, especially ‘Give Me One Reason’. Chris has always sounded so great singing this song, so we decided to record a quick version in the studio.”
The album was completed mere days before the COVID-19 lockdown was imposed and as events progressed, it became apparent that the album the Kentucky band were completing featured lyrics that were eerily prescient. At the time of the album announcement, drummer John Fred Young offered, “There was a real urgency and fear of the unknown during those sessions – it was a scary time. Every song on this album tells a story of the experiences we all go through – our happiness, our struggles, and how we have to adapt.”

April 4th, Melodic death quintet HAGALAS from Jyväskylä Finland, released their second EP. Thematically the EP follows the already published single Destination: Genocide, being very topical regarding the current world situation. War, refugeedom and the struggle of humanity are mirror images of the songs to be published. The release contains four songs, including the month ago published Destination: Genocide, which recieved great overall ratings and media feedback.
New lyric video ‘As a Unit’ is also released and it’s available here:
The band comments: “As A Unit, the title track, paints a picture of war and brotherhood. Focusing on how a single combatant cannot make a difference. How you fight and die as a unit. The song also makes note of the scars you receive in war. And they are for life. An official lyrics video has also been released for the title track.
The EP also contains the songs Rampant and Animal Farm, from which the former sends a message to the oppressor not to get used to unconditional power. Revolution and reprisal for freedom are inevitable. Animal Farms message is that you are living your life as a faceless slave, your worth measured in taxes paid per critical questions asked. Embracing the invisible shackles. Thanking your tyrant with a wide smile and tightening the blindfold as you step over the edge. Desination: Genocide describes the consequences of people sitting on their hands, while society spirals to dystopic totalitarianism. Picturing life is good, while standing on an invisible conveyor belt, eyes shut, trusting autocrats to decide what is best for all.”
With the publishing of the EP Hagalas goes on a live tour.
18.4. Lappeenranta, Musta Wappu, Kellari 18.5. Helsinki, Bar Loose 19.5. Jyväskylä, Ilokivi 20.5. Kuopio, Ottopoika 21.5. Tampere, Varjobaari
The live shows are carried out with Shadecrown (FIN), Veriteras (Seattle, USA), Soulglass(FIN) and Warfarer (FIN).
As A Unit EP was recorded in the Fall of 2021 in an old cottage at the shore of Lake Päijänne with Samuli Raappana from Tuuliajo in charge of recording and mixing. The EP was mastered in Sweden by Tony Lindgren from Fascination Street Studios. The songs themselves are composed and arranged by Hagalas.
Our method for songwriting is to gather up to the musical man-cave and start playing. Due to these test-sessions and countless hours of input, the band is in peak performance and ready to bring in the show, which you can measure yourself by coming to the live concerts this spring!

With the motto “go big or stay home” CRASHDÏET formed in Stockholm, Sweden, back in the year 2000 and brought in the new millennium with full-throttle speed and excess.
CRASHDÏET released their critically acclaimed debut album Rest in Sleaze in 2005, giving them a spring of success in their home country of Sweden and abroad.
Shortly after, their frontman Dave Lepard was found dead at his home, the result of a tragic suicide in January 2006.
With a career littered with abuse, tragic deaths and line-up changes, it nearly ended the band more than once, but they’ve become known for picking up the pieces and returning to the scene of the crime…every time.
The surviving band members and new blood have carried the glam-metal sleaze-rock torch ever since, touring the world and releasing many acclaimed studio albums.
