LOVELAND is Lie Land’s first EP, born in 2021 hand in hand with the birth of the band itself. An EP that has a very clear goal, to tell the love in all its nuances, along its most hostile and dark paths, facing the complications of the journey and the emotions that they involve, a journey in search of a clear truth. The disc contains 5 tracks, of which the first three, already released as singles with official video, form the debut triptych of the band ”Shades of love”. Completing the project are the two previously unreleased tracks ”He’s Coming” and ”Strangers”.
The band has different backgrounds, and this favors the release of an innovative and refined sound, ranging from classic rock to more modern influences. Experimenting with new musical margins, using synths and putting in the right passion, the band has managed to create this musical work, thanks also to the help and artistic production of maestro Gabriele Bellini, who has taken the project under his wing, together with his own label Qua Rock Records. A project that immerses you in the various emotions of love, from tragedy to euphoria, this is how the band wants to capture its listeners. Are you ready for the first big trip to Loveland? Happy listening!
Berlin-based sludge and post-metal heavy weights SHOVEL have announced new details about their upcoming, first-full-length album. The band’s self-titled debut will drop on May 27, 2022 via Italy’s powerhouse label Argonauta Records!
Ever since their first gig, SHOVEL created an immediate connection with the vibrant scene of Berlin, Germany, and following their colossal demo in 2019, they managed to establish themselves within the heavy music underground. The four-piece connects the immediacy of an intense riffage, existential screams and the elusiveness of otherworldly sounds and atmospheres. Emerging from the mud of sludge, doom and post-metal, their music travels through the openness and freedom of psychedelic textures to end up crawling in black metal claustrophobia and despair with an unconventional and distinct sound. Listen to the previously-released, first single and album opening track “VII-Havoc”:
“A couple of years ago, we started playing together; we were not even sure we were forming a band,” guitarist and vocalist Kostis Benning reveals. “Our sincere experimentation and dedication formed these songs- and these songs formed Shovel. Our debut album is for us a diary of feelings, thoughts and ideas during the years that passed. And all of these were so intense, that we collaborated with people whose vision and experience gave us the chance to form these ideas into the album you are about to listen to. Thanks to all the people that helped us, you that are listening to us and, of course, to Argonauta Records for making this all happen!”
SHOVEL‘s upcoming album was recorded live on tape at Big Snuff Studio, Berlin, by producer and engineer Richard Behrens (Kadavar, Samsara Blues Experiment, Elder). The album was mastered in The Atomic Garden Studio (California, USA) by Grammy nominated producer Jack Shirley (Amenra, Deafheaven, Oathbreaker). The artwork and layout was designed by étions formidables.
Slated for a digital release on May 27th via Argonauta Records with physical editions to follow, the pre-sale will be available soon THIS LOCATION!
Iran’s HETEROCHROME have a new album “From the Ashes” coming out this spring and the second single to entice listeners is the heavy “Badbadak (The Flight)”. Somber and driving in both topic and music, the single revisits the 2020 tragedy of flight 752. The band explains further:
“January of 2020 marked the tragedy of the Iranian Government shooting down the Ukrainian passenger airplane killing many of our loved ones including one of Mida’s old schoolmates. In the grief following that loss, Mida drew from an old school song called Badbadak (The Kite) and wrote this song. The music video represents the same suffering.”
The visually striking video was created by Mani Zonoozi who made it in a small aquarium with underwater equipment in the USA. It also features shots from Mida and Arash recorded in Canada and Finland.
The single and video for “Badbadak (The Flight)” can be heard below.
This is not the only song on the album to deal with dark subject matters, as a whole, it is a much deeper dive into the personal experiences of the band members than their debut. They hope that the fans appreciate the new path they are taking, and connect with the songs on the same personal level as them. Written as a concept album, each track forms a small part of a bigger picture, and while each serving is a unique story on its own the album has been tailored to be enjoyed as a whole.
Heterochrome started out with a melodic and emotional progressive sound, however over time they started to experiment with the alternative, electronic, and nu-metal genres as well, trying to find a balance to perfectly capture the essence of their sound between those styles and traditional Persian music. They are recommended listening for fans of Porcupine Tree, Gojira, and Draconian.
“From The Ashes” will be released on May 13, 2022.
