Together with Mikko Heikkilä of Kaunis Kuolematon as vocalist, the two once again invite you to a dark journey through the spheres of melodic doom.
To celebrate “Flames of Perdition” finally being available worldwide, DAWN OF SOLACE have released a brand new lyric video for the album’s title track.
Tuomas Saukkonen comments: “The title track is definitely the most beautiful song on the album carrying the bleakest message. Lullaby to the world in the cradle of ashes“.

Five years on from the release of their sophomore album, Lunar, WITHOUT WAVES have today announced their return and their eagerly awaited third album – titled Comedian. The album brings together ten expansive tracks, charting the emotion-heavy few years that the Chicago-based band have experienced together. Alongside the album announcement, WITHOUT WAVES have shared the lead single and gloriously fun accompanying music video, Good Grief.
Comedian will be released via Prosthetic Records on March 18 and is available to pre-order here.
Speaking on the single release, the band comments:
“Good Grief is a loose socio-political commentary on the endless stream of information we are all subjected to; the toxic soapbox journalism, the hyperbolic punditry and sensationalism…all for what? Someone in power can tweet something and it can shift global markets, cause geo-political uproar, which ultimately affects normal people at a micro level. Take the old adage made famous by Stan Lee: “With great power comes great responsibility.” It seems as though many in power can’t or won’t grasp this simple pearl of wisdom, and we’re all worse off for it.”
Having been a band for over a decade, and grown together – personally and creatively – for over half of their lives, the members of WITHOUT WAVES have an unspoken bond, a synergy that unites them and drives them forward. Despite the at-times difficult topics covered on the album, the band acknowledge that there is often humour to be found in human tragedy; comedy can soften hard truths which makes them easier to reckon with and process – hence the album title. Comedian is essentially an analogy for using art to disarm what troubles you.
Embracing the multiplicity of ways to interpret the label ‘progressive’, WITHOUT WAVES have created an album that would nestle comfortably in the record collections of fans of both The Dillinger Escape Plan and Devin Townsend, Gojira and Porcupine Tree. Their dynamic, experimental take on heaviness is evocative, thought-provoking and unconventional. Comedian was self-produced alongside Rollin Weary, who also mixed the record, before it was mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege in Portland, OR.
For a band that has always been sonically heavy, WITHOUT WAVES have added an additional layer of intensity with Comedian, that adds emotional weight to what was already a crushing proposition.
Comedian tracklist: 1. Good Grief 2. Animal Kingdom 3. .algorithm 4. Set & Setting 5. Sleep Deep 6. Do What Scares You 7. Sleight in Shadows 8. Day 15 9. Worlds Apart 10. Seven
Rising rock instrumentalist MK (Mike Kremastoules) unveils news of his latest video & single release ‘Run’. The late 2021 debut ‘Butterfly’ provided an insight into MK’s emotive & soaring guitar work – now this contrasting single shines a spotlight on MK’s capability to crank things up and enter the retro hard rock arena.
‘Run’ powers along with its driving stadium rock grooves – providing the back drop for MK’s melodic hook lines and themes and for his solo outbreaks to take more adventurous twists that turns. Sonically tipping it’s hat to heavyweights such as Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Slash and Gary Moore, this new instalment from MKis taken from his forthcoming album ‘Calling’. A collection of instrumental tracks exploring his adoration for guitar playing whilst projecting a fusion of styles from a wide musical spectrum. As a stalwart of the British music scene (formerly earning his stripes as lead guitarist with 80’s outfit Ded Ringer), MK’s music oozes maturity in sounds, techniques and compositional qualities.
Having taken his first steps into a solo career in 2021 – the Leeds (UK) guitarist entered the world with the soulfully melodic and ballad-like ‘Butterfly’. After debuting on the No1 playlist spot at Banks Radio Australia, the track (with its genre blurring qualities of progressive rock, blues and AOR), quickly captured support from radio stations and specialist media around the globe, including the likes of UK’s Total Rock & Hard Rock Hell Radio and many in the US. MK now strides forward with his energetic new track ‘Run‘ – embarking on a relentless crusade to reach a wider audience of rock music lovers. News of his full debut album and UK live shows will be landing very soon.
One for head bangers and air guitarists alike – Run is officially released on digital platforms on Monday 28th Feb 2022 via Kycher.
SHARK ISLAND was once the house band at the world-famous Gazzaris on the Sunset Strip. Signed to Epic Records in 1989 the band released their debut album “Law of the Order”, and also saw the tracks ‘Dangerous’ and ‘Father Time’ featured in the movie Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, as well as the song ‘My City’ from the movie Point Break. Lead Singer Richard Black would go on to be part of the short-lived supergroup Contraband which also featured Michael Schenker (Scorpions, UFO), and members of L.A. Guns, Ratt, and Vixen. They released one album in 1991 before disbanding.
“S’cool Bus” is where it all started, with tracks produced by Rick Derringer and capturing the band during the heyday of the Sunset Strip. This hidden gem is remastered and repackaged along with bonus tracks ‘Bang A Gong (Live)’ and ‘I’m Electric (Original Studio Recording)’. Both are taken from the same time period and make for a great addition to the original recordings for this “Deluxe Edition”. About this release, “What a powerful souvenir of a bygone era on the sunset strip, and a real gem for those who wish they were there. It will never happen again.”, Richard Black (the eye witness).
Limited edition “S’cool Bus” bundles are available for pre-order that include the classic Shark Island poster signed by Richard Black! You can also order the band’s latest album ‘Bloodline 2.020’ and other cool merch at the store.
The Lycans are howling out loud today with release of Finnish metallers AMOTH‘s new album “The Hour of The Wolf” via Rockshots Records.
The band’s roots are strongly founded on 80’s heavy metal, but branch out in different directions with elements from progressive rock, thrash, and even jazz brought to the table. “The Hour Of The Wolf” is the band’s third studio album to follow to their previous recordings “Revenge” (2016), “Crossing Over” (2011), “Wounded Faith (EP) (2008).
This third full-length features Pekka Montin of Ensiferum once again as the lead vocalist and for the first time, there are also keyboards on an Amoth recording. Fans can expect insane vocals and virtuoso-like playing from all members of the band. The nine songs are very diverse, taking sudden twists and turns into unexplored territory. Amoth even offers up two Steve Vai / Joe Satriani-style instrumentals on this new full-length with tracks “Wind Serenade Part I” and “Wind Serenade Part II”.
“This is by far our best album yet! Superior performances from all of the musicians. Much better production and songwriting. It’s not a fast-food album. Some of the songs are quite complex so it takes probably more than one listen to really get into!” comments Amoth guitarist and main songwriter Tomi Ihanamäki.
Today, in celebration of the album’s release, Amoth is sharing their latest music video for the record’s opening track “Alice”.
“The verse riff of this song was shown to me by Alice Cooper in my dream! I woke up and immediately wrote the riff down. That’s where the name of this song comes from, so thanks Alice! There are two main characters in this song: a stripper and her pimp. The lyrics are almost like a dialogue between those two. Very catchy and ”easy to get into” song with strong and memorable melodies. I knew this song needed an 80’s style chorus so that’s what it has.” adds guitarist Tomi Ihanamäki.
Track Listing: 1. Alice (4:46) 2. The Man Who Watches The World Burn (6:57) 3. Wounded Faith (4:31) 4. Wind Serenade Part I (2:02) 5. Wind Serenade Part II (5:20) 6. We Own The Night (5:34) 7. It Ain’t Over Yet (3:27) 8. Traces In The Snow (6:26) 9. The Hour of The Wolf (7:27) Album Length: 46:34
STEVE VAI and Favored Nations / Mascot Label Group have released his new studio album titled Inviolate. The LP will follow on March 18. The album’s mesmeric opener, “Teeth of the Hydra,” is a sinuous, Latin-fusion-tinged composition that Vai wrote and recorded with a one-of-a-kind custom guitar he coined the Hydra. Built in conjunction with the designers at Hoshino and based on a “steampunk motif” idea of Vai’s, the Hydra is a beast of an instrument – a one-bodied, two-headstock-ed, three-neck-ed creature that encompasses, among other things: 7 and 12-string guitars; a 4-string ¾ scale length bass; 13 sympathetic harp strings; half-fretless necks; single-coil, humbucking, piezo, MIDI and sustainer pickups; floating and hardtail tremolo bridges; phase splitters; and much, much more. Director Garson Yu and his team at yU+co were brought on to capture a deep look in to this magnificent creation which can be screened here: https://youtu.be/1ehGGTS83m0.
Vai shares, “It’s an incredibly-built machine. I told the guys at Hoshino, ‘Anything that you think is conventional, don’t do that.’ This was an opportunity to exercise brutal creativity. And they went beyond.” As did Vai in his performance. Throughout the track he employs the Hydra’s full range of tone and timbres to craft a guitar part that sounds, in its expansiveness and expressiveness, positively alive. “The interesting thing about the song and the guitar is that it all came at the same time,” Vai says. “It was one of those ‘inviolate’ inspirations – boom! I knew that I needed to create something with the Hydra that sounded like a real piece of music. It couldn’t be just a novelty. Because if you knew what my hands were doing, and how I’m using my left hand to create phrasings that work when I can’t pick a note because my right hand is off somewhere else…my god. But the finished piece had to stand on its own. It couldn’t sound like I was just trying to juggle stuff.”
Inviolate presents his most focused, streamlined and perhaps invigorating music in years. “It’s very ‘Vai,’ whatever that means,” he says, and then laughs. “Someone else might be better than me at explaining what that is. But it’s just very honest music. Because a lot of my records, they’re long and there’s a lot of concepts and playing around with stories. This one has none of that. This is nine pretty dense all-instrumental compositions that I wanted to capture and record so I could get out there and play them live for people.”
“An inviolate inspiration is one that comes to you completely pure,” Vai explains. “It appears almost in its completeness, and there’s a recognition of it as being right for you – perfectly right for you. There’s no excuses in it. There’s no fantasy in it. There’s just a recognition of ‘yes.’ And then you capture that in a way that’s authentic to your unique creativity. Hopefully, that’s what I’ve done with this record.”
