Kings of Thrash, the acclaimed union of Megadeth alumni David Ellefson (bass) and Jeff Young (guitar), plus Chaz Leon (vocals, guitar) and Dead Groove/BulletBoys drummer Fred Aching, with special guest (and fellow ex-Megadeth-er) Chris Poland, return to the fray with a stunning new single, and a dramatic shift in attitude, too.
The band, after all, is most renowned as the sonic spark that detonated one of the recent past’s most incendiary live albums, the mighty The Mega Years reinvention of Megadeth’s first and three studio LPs, Killing Is My Business…And Business Is Good(1985) andSo Far, So Good…So What? (1988), plus highlights from the intervening Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying! (1986). The albums, in other words, upon which the entire thrash metal genre was built and defined in the first place.
As guitarist Young put it at the outset of the continent-devouring Mega Years tour, “The mission here is to bring a connection of goodwill through the music, with a collaboration of musicians and friends in our community. Our thrash tribe casts a wide net to give people hope in a time when they’re looking for something positive and uplifting. What better way than to do that than through the music which has become the soundtrack to our lives.”
Released today, the new single “Lockdown,” however, sees the Kings of Thrash step out of the shadow of their old band, while both maintaining, and even amplifying all the qualities that made those albums so wildly influential.
A brand new Kings of Thrash original, “‘Lockdown’ has it all,” confirms guitarist Poland. “Great riffs. A super catchy chorus. And a rhythm section that is locked up tight”! And I’m honored to have been invited to be a part of it.
“Lockdown” is what Young describes as “a cool mix of 80s thrash and punk vibes, plus four guitar solos (!!!) We had a lot of fun bringing this song to life!”
“’Lockdown’ captures the true spirit of old school thrash metal,” says bassist Ellefson, “with a lyric that can be seen as timely in this chaotic world we now live in.”
A stunning new video, directed and edited by drummer Aching and his Dead Groove bandmate Holly West, made it’s debut today on Metal Injection, capturing the band both live in the studio and, appropriately, behind bars.
There’s more Kings of Thrash on the way, too, as they celebrate the 30th anniversary of Megadeth’s Youthanasiaand other thrash classics. Their Thrashin’ SoCal mini tour ignites at the Whisky on September 4, before Thrashin’ The East begins in Frenchtown NJ on October 17. And, concludes Young, “We can’t wait to hear everybody singing the ‘Lockdown’ chorus with us live!”
On the heels of his soulful lead single “Bye Bye Blues,” celebrated blues singer and guitarist Larry McCray returns today with “Bright Side,” the second release from his upcoming album Heartbreak City, due out June 13 via KTBA Records, the label founded by Joe Bonamassa. The mid-tempo burner—written by Josh Smith, Michael “Harvey” Price, and Steve Shepherd—was originally penned for the late, great Bobby “Blue” Bland, but sat unreleased for decades until producer Josh Smith brought it to McCray, knowing he was the one to bring it to life.
With deep-in-the-pocket grooves, sly lyrical turns, and an irresistible call-and-response chorus, “Bright Side” leans into McCray’s ability to deliver grit with charm and swagger. His weathered vocals ride a classic blues progression that’s equal parts tough and joyful, while his signature guitar tone cuts through like a livewire. “Bright Side” shows McCray doing what he does best—delivering emotional truth with musical fire.
Produced by Grammy-nominated duo Bonamassa and Smith, Heartbreak City is a bold, unfiltered collection that finds McCray at the height of his powers. The ten-track album fuses raw blues with vintage soul, Southern grit, and a hard-won sense of joy, featuring standout contributions from Reese Wynans, Kirk Fletcher, and background vocalists Jade Macrae and Dannielle De Andrea, as well as guest guitar work from Bonamassa himself. The album was recorded at Sunset Sound in Hollywood and mixed by Alan Hertz.
The project was first introduced with the lead single “Bye Bye Blues,” a finger-snapping throwback co-written with long-time collaborator Charlie Walmsley that paid homage to the soul icons of McCray’s youth—Johnnie Taylor, Bobby “Blue” Bland, and Little Milton among them.
Across Heartbreak City, McCray leans into themes of reflection, resilience, and redemption, drawing from decades of lived experience on and off the stage. His voice—gravelly, weathered, and full of soul—carries the weight of hard-earned wisdom, while his guitar work remains as fiery and fluid as ever. With gospel-tinged harmonies, taut grooves, and a band that matches him punch for punch, Heartbreak City reclaims the blues, reframing it through the lens of someone who’s survived it, played it, and lived it for more than four decades.
The album follows McCray’s 2022 comeback Blues Without You, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Blues Chart and was named the #1 Blues Album of the Year by Blues Rock Review. The record marked a triumphant return after a seven-year hiatus and helped relaunch McCray onto festival stages and year-end best-of lists. In 2024, he was inducted into the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame, further cementing his place among the greats.
Born in Smackover, Arkansas, and raised in Saginaw, Michigan, McCray developed a guitar style that blends the electric fire of Hendrix with the soul of B.B. King and the Southern swing of the Allman Brothers. He was the first artist signed to Virgin Records’ Point Blank imprint in the late ’80s and went on to release a series of genre-defining albums, including Ambition, Delta Hurricane, and Born to Play the Blues. Over his storied career, McCray has shared the stage with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Albert King, the Allman Brothers, Joe Walsh, Jonny Lang, and many more.
“Larry McCray is a legend,” shares Joe Bonamassa. “We have known that for 30 years. He is the last of the great blues shouters from the Rust Belt. In the spirit of BB King, Luther Allison, and Little Milton, Larry is among the greats. It’s now up to the world to rediscover him. He has been here all along.”

About Larry McCray Blues singer and guitarist Larry McCray was born in Magnolia, Arkansas, and raised in Saginaw, Michigan, where he developed a searing guitar style and emotive voice that would earn him comparisons to the genre’s greats. A pioneer of modern blues-rock, McCray helped shape the genre throughout the ’90s with albums on Virgin’s Point Blank label and through collaborations with legends like B.B. King, Albert King, and Buddy Guy. After years of grinding it out on the road and surviving personal struggles, McCray has emerged with a renewed sense of purpose—and a voice that’s deeper, richer, and more powerful than ever. With Heartbreak City, he cements his status as a timeless torchbearer of the blues.
Legendary rockers Faster Pussycat are shifting into high gear and revving things up with their brand new single ‘Motorbike,’ out now on Golden Robot Records. The adrenaline-fueled track is available to stream on all major streaming platforms.
In true Faster Pussycat fashion, ‘Motorbike’ captures the gritty, fast-lane energy that has made the band icons of the late-‘80s hard rock scene, delivering a roaring joy ride of sleaze, swagger and attitude. “Sex, rock and roll and motorcycles! The lyrics are tongue in cheek, you can take them how you want to…” raves Faster Pussycat founder and frontman Taime Downe of the single. “I started writing ‘Motorbike’ about a decade ago, then the pandemic happened and… I’m slow…” he trails with a laugh. “We actually recorded this a couple times before, I finally felt like we got it right.”
Fans will be thrilled to learn that a limited edition 7-inch of ‘Motorbike’ printed on “Pussycat Purple” vinyl is also available to buy now. For collectors, an even more limited number of 7-inches signed by Taime Downe are available exclusively at www.fasterpussycat.com.
As was the case with the band’s previous two single releases, the vinyl b-side is a cover that has Downe just as excited as his Faster original – a fuel-injected and grease-splattered take on the INXS classic ‘Don’t Change.’ “I’ve been a big fan of INXS for years – I even hung out with Michael Hutchence, Iggy Pop and Debbie Harry after an awards show, which was a night I’ll never forget,” waxes the frontman. “I’ve always wanted to do an INXS cover – they have so many great songs, but this is one of my favorites. We’ve been playing it on and off for years, and it’s obviously in the set when we play Australia. I’m psyched to finally get it recorded and out there with our own spin. It’s INXS meets the Sex Pistols, as only Faster Pussycat can.”
As Taime appropriately sings on ‘Motorbike’, “hold on tight and enjoy the ride!”

Faster Pussycat rose from the depths of the mid-‘80s Hollywood rock scene and took the Sunset Strip by storm with a sound that wasn’t glam and wasn’t punk, but blistered somewhere in between. With an attitude and swagger all its own, their self-titled debut featured the instant classics “Babylon,” “Bathroom Wall,” “Cathouse” and “Don’t Change that Song,” and its follow-up ‘Wake Me When It’s Over’ climbed even higher with the radio hit “House of Pain,” “Poison Ivy” and “Where There’s a Whip There’s a Way.”
Despite sales in excess of two million records worldwide, Faster Pussycat defied the mainstream mold and always followed their frontman’s underground sensibilities. The accolades are nice, but Taime considers his greatest accomplishment longevity. “The only number that really matters to me is the number 40. Four decades later, Faster Pussycat are still rocking, and it feels as fresh as it did in 1986.”
Look no further than new releases ‘Motorbike’ and ‘Don’t Change’ – Faster Pussycat are as virile and tenacious as ever.
Critically acclaimed guitarist and singer Orianthi will release her new studio album Some Kind of Feeling via Woodward Avenue Recordsdigitally on June 27, on CD on August15, and on vinyl on September 19.
Orianthi produced three songs from the new album including “First Time Blues,” “Ghost,” and “Bad For Each Other.” The remaining seven songs on the album, including the new single “Attention,” are produced by Kevin “The Caveman” Shirley (Beth Hart, Joe Bonamassa, Joanne Shaw Taylor).
Orianthi’s new single “Attention” is released Friday May 16th and is available on all streaming platforms HERE.
Though the lyrics of Orianthi’s latest fiery, kick-ass single “Attention,” exposes an annoying ex-lover’s habit of drunk texting to rile up her cooled passions, its title, on a deeper level makes us think about the kind of attention we’ve been paying to the singer/songwriter and virtuoso electric guitarist over the past 20 years. Seems nothing can ever be written about the multi-talented veteran artist without mentioning her collaborations with Alice Cooper, Dave Stewart and Richie Sambora, and the fact that Michael Jackson hired her for his London performances the year of his untimely death.
Equal “Attention” should also be paid to her success as an artist in her own right, starting with her Top 20 Billboard pop hit “According to You” and gold-selling Geffen album Believe, released in 2009. While playing with legends over the years, she’s continued to build her discography with numerous albums on different labels.
Her prolific streak of stylistically diverse singles in 2024 on Woodward Avenue – “First Time Blues” with Joe Bonamassa, “Ghost” and “Some Kind of Feeling” – launches a fresh, adventurous new phase of her solo career, an era of exciting creativity and powerhouse contemporary rock and roll.
Penned by Orianthi, Don Miggs and Gregory Hanson, “Attention” is a classic styled power rocker that marks her second track produced and mixed by the legendary Kevin “The Caveman” Shirley, whose surreally extensive resume includes Bonamassa, Journey, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Dream Theater and countless artists from his home country of South Africa and his later adopted home of Australia.
After an edgy, rhythmic electric guitar intro, Orianthi uses her silky, sultry vocal tone to bring us into a compelling scenario where she’s free from a complicated relationship and living life on her own terms now: “I ain’t at the Whisky/Waiting on you/Or staring at the ceiling/Sitting in a hotel room…” Then the groove, propelled by bassist Justin Andres and drummer Demian Arriaga, kicks up, and over more rhythmic, crunchy guitar energy, she tells her former significant other, “I’m sipping on tequila/With someone you knew/And you’re out on tour/Doing what you always do.” She doesn’t specify, but it feels like code for “screwing around like you did on me.”
As the track develops, Orianthi’s increasingly emotional vocals convey frustration and exasperation, then everything explodes on the killer hook where she really lets the guy have it: “You’re so predictable/You do it every time/Drunk checking on me/In the middle of the night/You know what you put me through/U just want attention.” She wraps the chorus with the mic drop line: “I’m done thinking about you,” which is followed by a cool melodic earworm of wordless background vocals.
After some clever wordplay in the second verse (“Ambien and alcohol/Swearing I’m the love of your life”) and another romp through the high-octane chorus (where he repeats “I’m done thinking about you” a few times for good measure, Orianthi gets to the magic that every fan waits for – her blazing solo action. It’s 30 seconds of wild abandon, pure hyperkinetic rock and roll bliss, an effortless fire with a blaze of high notes that allows her to say with her axe something deeper that even the biting lyrics can’t: I’m so over you! “Attention” is best appreciated via its dynamic performance video, which shows a few close ups of her intricate guitarisma. After another run through the hook, Orianthi repeats “I’m done thinking about you” over and over as her guitar wails behind her vocals for heavier emphasis.
With every new single, Orianthi reminds us that she’s at the top of her game in every way, finding fresh, vulnerable yet attitude-filled musical stories to tell, and allowing us to experience the guitar chops that have made her a modern-day rock hero.

Belgian goregrind lunatics BRUTAL SPHINCTER have dropped one final single before the release of their long-awaited new album “Sphinct-Earth Society”, out May 23rd, 2025 via Time To Kill Records.
Titled “Tony Hawk’s Pro Choice 2022”, the track is a chaotic satire laced with the band’s signature absurdity, grinding grooves and razor-sharp social commentary.
“The catalyst for this song was the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on Roe v. Wade, which effectively revoked the constitutional right to abortion. It appears that religious values are regaining significance in the Western world, increasingly turning away from Enlightenment principles. We drew inspiration for this song from a paper by Siân M Beynon-Jones, which incorporates various data collections capturing the voices of affected women. (Beynon-Jones SM. Untroubling abortion: A discourse analysis of women’s accounts. Fem Psychol. 2017 May;27(2):225-242.) We recognize that, as a five-member group of men, we can never truly understand what it feels like for a woman to have an abortion or the impact of an abortion or unwanted pregnancy on a woman. Nonetheless, we want to use our platform to raise awareness about the difficult circumstances faced by those affected. It is clear to us that all women must have the right to decide whether or not they want to carry a child. Legalize abortion for all women!”
With “Sphinct-Earth Society”, the band pushes the boundaries of the genre they inhabit. In other words, by incorporating numerous new influences, ranging from death metal to modern metal, they redefine what goregrind can be, all while maintaining that groovy signature sound that makes them so instantly recognizable.
For example, while the track “Beatdown Syndrome” integrates hardcore elements, the song “Name Three Songs” instrumentally pushes the limits of technicality. Meanwhile, a track like “Abolish Frontex” draws influences from death metal akin to Daath or Decapitated, and a juggernaut like “Unvaxxed Lives Matter” secures its place as a classic in BRUTAL SPHINCTER’s discography thanks to its unparalleled heaviness and ultra-groovy riffs.
Across the 10 tracks that make up this new opus, BRUTAL SPHINCTER tackles societal issues both dramatic (climate change, immigration, sexism, etc.) and conspiratorial (anti-vaxxers, flat-earthers, etc.). As usual, they use their particularly biting humor and embrace absurdity to approach these sensitive topics.
Moreover, the band’s two frontmen complement each other more than ever, delivering a particularly diverse vocal range. Whether you’re a fan of the pitched vocals typical of goregrind, the slimy inhales of slamming death metal, the caveman shouts of powerviolence, or the more traditional growls foundational to death metal, there’s something to enjoy in these 30 minutes of brutality.
With this new offering, BRUTAL SPHINCTER solidifies its position among the leaders of their genre and sets out to expand its reputation into scenes less niche than grindcore.
Tracklist:
1. The Prolapse Of Society 2. Tony Hawk Pro-Choice 2022 3. Crusta-Colada (Crack’n Kofola) 4. Unvaxxed Lives Matter 5. Beatdown Syndrome 6. Name Three Songs 7. Sphinct-Earth Society 8. The Juice Did It 9. Persona Non-Greta 10. Abolish Frontex
Offending everyone since April 1st, 2013, BRUTAL SPHINCTER have, over the years, established themselves as one of the leading acts in the current goregrind scene.
Bringing political themes into their music, they dub themselves “POOlitical” and, through offbeat and satirical humor, take a stand against all forms of extremism while championing freedom of speech.
Despite their extreme musical style, they are one of those rare acts that can seamlessly fit into any type of event or festival. They have proven this time and again, performing at some of the biggest metal gatherings in Europe, such as Hellfest, Summer Breeze Open Air, Alcatraz, Motocultor, Party San, Metaldays, and more, as well as at the most extreme metal events like Obscene Extreme, DeathFeast Open Air, Meh Suff, Kaltenbach Open Air and Netherlands Deathfest.
BEWARE! Party, dance, groove, and brutality are the elements they always bring with them to every show.
Musical duo ACIDGROUND, composed of Vins (Bound) and Fabrizio (Drago Balcano), announces the release of their powerful new single “Addictions”, available from June 13, 2025 via Wanikiya Record/Promotion. This marks a new chapter in their dark and visceral musical diary, blending Grunge, Stoner Rock, and Dark/Doom in the footsteps of giants such as Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Type O Negative, and Kyuss.
The track tackles the universal and multifaceted theme of addiction with brutal clarity and emotional sensitivity. But “Addictions” is not what it seems. It’s not just about drugs, alcohol, or gambling. The single dives deep into the hidden core of every addiction: the original trauma. A trauma capable of creating invisible yet profoundly real abysses—emotional dependency, obsession with control, self-sabotage, or even seemingly “healthy” forms like competitive sports. Anything born of imbalance, the song says, is a deep crack that feeds on our vulnerabilities.
ACIDGROUND, meaning “acidic ground,” symbolizes the adversity the human being walks through every day. Their music is a cathartic ritual, digging into pain to transform it into sound, resistance, and light. After the EP “Evil Blues”—whose cover depicted a hand emerging from the ground as a symbol of strength and rebirth—hands return again in “Addictions”, as visual protagonists of the human journey made of contact, struggle, and survival.
Bound, vocalist and songwriter, is the dark soul of the project. He has explored punk, metal, pop, and reggae, ultimately finding himself in grunge and stoner rock, where he now channels his deep, layered voice. Every ACIDGROUND composition bears his sonic signature, built over the years like a mosaic of experiences, choices, and scars.
Drago Balcano, multi-instrumentalist and visionary spirit, has traversed countless musical paths—from metal to reggae, singer-songwriter music to meditative sounds—ultimately crafting a unique language that unites spirituality and matter. After an accident that temporarily took away the use of his left hand, he turned suffering into creativity: composing with a tablet, writing music for documentaries, and performing worldwide with projects such as Palmood, El Viaje del Alma, Garibaldi, Hybridcode, and many others.
“Addictions” represents the meeting point between two opposing yet complementary souls. A song that doesn’t offer easy answers but raises deep questions. That doesn’t judge, but accompanies. That doesn’t scream, but digs deep.
The single will be available on all digital platforms starting June 13, 2025, released under the Wanikiya Record/Promotion label.
