YEAR OF NO LIGHT Announce New Album “Les Maîtres Fous” + Stream Title Track

French post-metal collective Year of No Light return with their highly unique, evocative live album Les Maîtres Fous, to be released 23rd May via the esteemed Pelagic Records.

Haunting, discordant and deeply unsettling, Les Maîtres Fous (‘The Mad Masters’) was written by the group in response to French filmmaker Jean Rouch’s controversial 1950’s docufiction of the same name.

Captured live in 2015, this arresting piece of music is now available to hear for the first time in a decade.

Pre-order Les Maîtres Fous here: https://orcd.co/yonl

To acknowledge the album announcement, the group have streamed an excerpt from the album. Listen here:

Commissioned by Musée Du Quai Branly in Paris for their 2012 ‘L’Invention Du Sauvage’ exhibition, Year of No Light approached the ritual practices of the Hauka movement as depicted in the original film and responded with their uniquely hypnotic heaviness.

Performed only twice, once at the exhibition on the 6th January, 2012 and again in Bordeaux on the 29th January, 2015 – this release is a live recording of the second and final performance of Les Maîtres Fous. Whilst Year of No Light have a long history of collaboration with forward-thinking filmmakers and visual artists, the sensitivity of this documentary’s problematic subject matter and the intensity of the band’s performance made this performance both a physically and emotionally demanding experience; something that can be keenly felt upon listening.

Tracklisting:

1 Part 1
2 Part 2

Founded in September 2001 by a collection of Bordeaux’s heavy scene stalwarts as an ongoing side project encompassing elements of sludge metal and shoegaze, Year of No Light released their debut album, Nord, in 2006 to critical acclaim. The subsequent years however saw a significant line-up change, with the band replacing their vocalist with a third guitarist to become a fully instrumental sextet, incorporating aspects of black metal, drone electronica and dark ambient into their already formidable sound.

2010’s four-track epic Ausserwelt and the 2013 follow-up Tocsin saw Year of No Light distilling their punishing sound even further; stalling the tempo to a glacial crawl and tuning guitars ever downwards to new uncharted depths. Consolamentum, the band’s first full-length release in nine years and their first with Pelagic Records, brought the outfit’s crushing double-drumming percussion to the fore – as a masterclass in dynamic control saw Year of No Light embrace the highest highs and the lowest lows of the intervening years.

Now approaching their 25th anniversary, Les Maître Fous is a pressing reminder that, despite the band’s long and ongoing journey, Year of No Light have never been afraid to experiment, to take risks, to square up to life’s ugliness and look it straight in the eye.

DOUBLE VISION Release First Single And Lyric Video for ‘Silence Is Louder’

US melodic rockers Double Vision are thrilled to debut their first single and accompanying lyric video, “Silence Is Louder”, out now via Frontiers Music Srl.

Stream “Silence Is Louder” HERE

Vocalist Chandler Mogel commented on the single: “Silence Is Louder” evokes late 70’s / early-era Foreigner with a fresh flair and approach for the modern melodic rock era.  The concept is a powerful one, because silence often leaves room for interpretation, reflection and sometimes even tension.  And in that space, emotions can grow louder than spoken language ever could. Ironically, we believe that conveyance of this concept through music is just what the doctor ordered – as people experience these concepts manifested in relationships, in protest or defiance, or also in communication.  All very important factors of life and for this day and age”.

Born as a Foreigner tribute band in the United States, Double Vision honed their craft performing to lively and sold-out crowds up and down the east coast and across the country, soon becoming a real live attraction.

With a lineup boasting some of New York City’s top professional rock musicians and well-known faces of the scene, including dynamic frontman and singer Chandler Mogel (Outloud, Jeff Waters’ Amerikan Kaos, Punky Meadows, etc.), super drummer Scott Duboys (ex-Warrior Soul) and bass player Scott Metaxas (ex-Prophet) as well as guitar virtuosos Chris Schwartz and Paul Baccash, and keyboard maestro Alex Lubin, Double Vision recently considered working on their own music, still owing a debt and strong influence to the Foreigner sound.

Double Vision now makes its foray into the world of original music. While they showed they are truly second to none at recreating the masterful songs Foreigner fans worldwide have come to love, Double Vision now enters the second phase of their career, primed and ready to establish a strong foothold in the melodic rock realm with a sound that truly recreates the magic of the 80’s rock vibe with a contemporary take.

Line Up:
Chandler Mogel – vocals
Scott Duboys – drums
Scott Metaxas – bass
Chris Schwartz and Paul Baccash – guitars
Alex Lubin – keyboards

JETHRO TULL Launch Video for ‘Over Jerusalem’ from Latest Album

Posted by tarjavirmakari on April 16, 2025
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: JETHRO TULL. Leave a comment

After two consecutive new Jethro Tull album releases in 2022 and 2023, a new studio record – ‘Curious Ruminant’ – was recently released in March to much acclaim. Consisting of nine new tracks varying in length from two and half minutes to almost seventeen minutes, this is an album of mostly full band music. Amongst the musicians featured are former keyboardist Andrew Giddings and drummer James Duncan, along with the current band members David Goodier, John O’Hara, Scott Hammond and, making his recording debut with the band, guitarist Jack Clark.

Today they are pleased to release a video for the track ‘Over Jerusalem’, a track they have recently started playing live on tour, animated by Studio Sparks in Portugal. Watch it now here:

Ian Anderson comments: “Having visited Jerusalem to perform in concert and in Israel generally many times since 1986 I, like much of the world, have felt growing distress at the political, social and cultural dilemmas facing all in the region. After the first visit or two, I decided to continue to perform there but to donate all proceeds to various local NGOs: mostly to those supporting co-education of Arabs, Jews and Christians and often with a musical bias.

The deep and complex history of Jerusalem – brilliantly chronicled in the book “Jerusalem: The Biography” by Simon Sebag Montifiore – would be best read by many taking the simplistic view and taking polarised sides. Montefiore refers to “Jerusalem Syndrome”, which pretty much sums up my own somewhat tortured views.

I continue to hold a deep reverence and concern for the future of one of the most important cities of all time and its pivotal place in the current world. I say in the final line of the song, “I’m not over Jerusalem.” Like a tragic love affair, it remains a memory which time cannot erase. Don’t get me started about Moscow or Kiev….”

Ian Anderson had been saying for months following the release of RökFlöte that he would embark on a new project in late 2023. He waited only a few weeks before the first notions began to solidify into some drafted words of intent and in May 2024, some unfinished music recorded earlier with John O’Hara, David Goodier and James Duncan became the starting point for the new songs as they took shape.

Writing the lyrics and melodies for all the newly written material came very quickly once he began in earnest during June and just seemed to slot right in to the musical feel and styles of the earlier recordings.

Anderson’s writing here is often on a more personal level of lyric content than we are used to hearing. Interspersed with his usual observational descriptions are the slightly more heart-on-sleeve moments of soul-baring – albeit not on the topics more often paraded by the usual I-me lyric merchants of pop and rock.

Some of the songs are developed from unfinished instrumental demos made some years ago although this does not result in a huge stylistic divide to jump out at the listener. Apart from the signature flute solos and melodies, accordion, mandolin, acoustic and tenor guitars feature on several tracks too, so the subtle backdrop of acoustic and folk rock serves to remind of the Tull heritage of the 70s.

The band consists of:
Ian Anderson – Flutes, vocals, acoustic guitar, tenor guitar, mandolin, odds and sods, bits and bobs
David Goodier – Bass guitar
John O’Hara – Piano, keyboards, accordion
Scott Hammond – Drums
Jack Clark – Electric guitar

The album also features:
James Duncan – Drums, cajón, percussion
Andrew Giddings – Piano, keyboards, accordion

“Newtonin Kanuuna” is the new single and video from Tampere, Finland-based space/psych rock trio Skyjoggers, the latest single from the band’s new LP “12021: Post-Electric Apocalypse”, nearing early May release on Supernatural Cat, the label formed by the Malleus Rock Art Collective and members of Ufomammut.

Fusing the exhilarating elements of space rock and psychedelic soundscapes, Skyjoggers‘ music captures the essence of cosmic exploration, characterized by hypnotic riffs and an experimental approach that pushes boundaries. With a focus on dynamic performances and rich instrumental textures, Skyjoggers invites listeners on a journey through uncharted musical territories.

On Skyjoggers’ “12021: Post-Electric Apocalypse”, the band focuses on themes such as death, loss, and despair. The writing of the album took place during the pandemic, forest fires in the Amazon, and wars around the planet; The band took inspiration from such themes trying to channel the hard topics into something beautiful shining a ray of hope and light into the world through music. The album showcases the heaviest side of Skyjoggers heard to this day, bringing elements of black and doom metal into the band’s unique mix of modern space rock.

“12021: Post-Electric Apocalypse” was recorded at Soundwell Studios, Espoo by Janne Hakanen who also took over mastering duties, with additional recordings by Johannes Latva in Soossila, Tampere, and was mixed by Niko Lehdontie. Malleus Rock Art Collective handled the artwork and design.

With the “Newtonin Kanuuna” single, the band writes, “Newton’s cannonball was a thought experiment Isaac Newton used to hypothesize that the force of gravity was universal, and it was the key force for planetary motion.”

Game Over has released a video for “Neck Breaking Dance”, third single taken from the new album “Face The End” to be released on April 25 by Scarlet Records. PRE-SAVE/PRE-ORDER

Being part of the same music scene means having fun together, sharing common passions and values, and enjoying a common ground where everyone is more than welcome. This mid-tempo thrash anthem packed with gang vocals celebrates that uniqueness with an ironic and playful attitude. It’s the perfect track to dive headfirst into a wild, unrelenting mosh pit!

“Face The End”:

A new chapter begins for Game Over and their never-ending lust for thrash metal blood: turning into a five-piece act with the entrance of Danny on vocals and Leo on bass, the band aims to take its sound to the next level both in the studio and live.

“Face The End” is an album with a dual soul: a warning about the Western world’s critical state and a call to face challenges that often mark new beginnings.

The Game Over sound has reached new heights with heavier riffs transitioning from blistering fast sections to crushing mid-tempos and catchy breakdowns. Aggressive vocals, anthemic gang choruses, and subtle synths parts create some eerie atmospheres inspired by ’70s and ’80s horror/slasher films, blending sheer intensity with haunting storytelling. This game is not over yet!

08.06 Lions Metal Fest (FR)

DAGDRØM Unleash Second Single ‘Tagtraum’ from Upcoming Debut Album

Würzburg, Germany, -based black metal act DAGDRØM has delivered another intense taste of their upcoming debut full-length record, entitled “Schauder”, which will be out on May 9. Following the release of the first single “Ascheregen”, the band follows up with the track “Tagtraum”.

Stream the single HERE

“If one song could sum up DAGDRØM musically and thematically, it would be ‘Tagtraum’. Dissonant but melodic, aggressive but dynamic with a lyrical focus on disturbing, cryptic and intangible dreams/daydreams as a critical insight into one’s own soul,” the band comments.

Tracklist:

  1. Intro
  2. Ascheregen
  3. Purpurne Stadt
  4. Tagtraum
  5. Alle Worte
  6. Atme
  7. Flüsse
  8. Freund
  9. Ära
  10. Kalte Fliesen

Following their 2022 debut EP, “Dagdrøm”, released via Rising Nemesis, which explored the atypical black metal subject of serial killer Edmund Kemper, the band began recording “Schauder” in the latter half of 2024.

DAGDRØM‘s musical influences extend beyond traditional black metal, incorporating elements of hard/deathcore, post-metal, grindcore, and death metal to create an innovative and difficult-to-categorize genre blend. The song material is notably intricate and technically demanding. “Schauder” explores life’s challenging periods, where internal struggles lead to psychological abysses. Themes include loss of reality, blurred lines between dreams and reality, anxiety/panic, relationship issues, the desire for healing, homicidal fantasies, and trauma. The album represents a thematic shift for the band.

“Schauder” features traditional black metal elements combined with diverse influences to create a consistent and high-quality sound. The songs are characterized by contrasting elements: fast blast beats, complex double bass patterns, technical riffs, atypical breakdowns, dynamic quiet passages, choral vocals, varied vocal techniques, and catchy song structures.

The album will be coming out on May 9, self-released by DAGDRØM, and was mixed and mastered by Nikita Kamprad (Der Weg einer Freiheit). “Schauder” is available for pre-order at THIS LOCATION

DAGDRØM are:
Sebastian – Guitar
Max – Vocals
Oli – Drums
Stefan – Bass
Julian – Guitar
