LEÆTHER STRIP Is Here to Teach You Some Discipline

Industrial pioneers Throbbing Gristle released just a handful of singles throughout their lifetime, and while not one of them escaped the lower reaches of the UK independent charts, nevertheless they all were staples of the UK club scene in the early 1980s.  And none so much as “Discipline,” recorded live in late 1980, and released on 12-inch single the following year.

Even among those people who found Throbbing Gristle’s music unlistenable, “Discipline” was as irresistible as it was inescapable, close to 10 minutes of electro-percussive chant that was both utterly divorced from anything else on the turntables at the time, and wholly representative of the direction in which dance music was headed.  Catch the band live, and it could sometimes stretch to 30 minutes

“Discipline” lived on, too.  Marc Almond and Friends recorded it for a giveaway flexidisc single with Flexipop magazine; and performed it live, as well. On at least one occasion, an extended version of “Discipline” devoured his entire live set.

“Dr Mabuse” hitmakers Propaganda recorded a version during early sessions for their 1985 A Secret Wish album; Boyd Rice’s NON alias covered it for a Throbbing Gristle tribute album.

It was elsewhere, however, that “Discipline” made its greatest impact, as it slipped into the playlist on the gay club circuit, and remained there for years to come – a tribute, of course, to TG founder Genesis P Orridge, but an acknowledgement, too, of the subversive sexuality that was the song’s deepest message.

Thus, when Leæther Strip mainman Claus Larsen was gathering favorites for the latest, ninth, volume in his Æppreciation series of covers, “Discipline” – released as a single today – was a total shoo-in.

Claus explains, “With this edition of my Æppreciation series, I wanted to pay tribute to some of my favorite LGBTQ+  and LGBTQ+ friendly artists and songs. They have all been a huge inspiration for me and shown me that there was a place for me to express myself with my own songs.”

Tracks originally recorded by Man 2 Man (“Male Stripper”), Peaches (“I U She”), Chris & Cosey (“Sin”),, Coil (“Heaven’s Blade”) and Boytronic (“Trigger Track”) illustrate the sheer depth of this collection, as Claus is swift to point out.

“The whole industrial/electronic genre has from the very beginning been represented by the Queer community in a big way, so I feel it time to wave the flag for these amazing artists.”

That his selection here delves deeper into period club culture than any of the preceding volumes only adds weight to its assertion – particularly in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the era most heavily represented on the album, the burgeoning industrial scene was one of the truly “safe spaces” around.

Clubs like The Church in Dallas, TX (subject of the Cleopatra DVD/bluray Dark Sanctuary: The Story Of The Church), Heaven in London, Snax in Berlin and the Limelight in New York remain legends for precisely that reason and, placing Appreciation IX on either the turntable or the CD deck is like walking into any of those clubs, or the myriad others that operated at the time, and knowing there was nothing to fear.

Releasing on July 24 on both CD and startling black/red splatter vinyl, Æppreciation IX is an exquisite addition to what long ago proved itself to be one of the most intriguing, and alluring, series of covers albums ever conceived; it is certain, too, to awaken fresh interest in its eight predecessors – an unbreakable bloc that shines an affectionate, yet wholly unique light upon some of the greatest music of the eighties and nineties.  All are available now from Cleopatra Records.

EIVØR Announces New Studio Album “Tungl” + Unveils Video Single ‘Drekafljóð / Dragon Maiden’

Transcendent Faroese artist Eivør has unveiled the next phase of her remarkable artistic journey. On October 16th this year, Eivør will release hernew studio album, Tungl, the Faroese word meaning ‘moon’.

Pre-order Tungl here: https://eivor.bfan.link/tungl

Eivør has offered a deeper glimpse into her newest musical vision with the release of new song Drekafljóð / Dragon Maiden accompanied by a breathtaking video filmed in Svínadalur, Iceland, by director Krassasig (Kristinn Arnar Sigurðsson). Watch here.

Eivør imparts about the song:

“I’m excited to share my new song, Drekafljóð / Dragon Maiden, with you.

The song is a tribute to the fierce, intuitive force that lives within us all. While my previous single, Healer, explored resilience, Dragon Maiden feels more like an awakening, a reminder of the power that has always been within you.

The song began as a poem that had been quietly living in the back of my mind for a long time. I wanted to capture that beautiful, liberating feeling of letting go of the need to control everything and opening yourself to whatever life may bring. I invited one of my favourite poetic minds, Marjun S. Kjelnæs, to finish the poem with me, and I’m so proud of what we created together.

I produced and recorded the song with my partner in crime, Tróndur Bogason, and my band. I wanted it to feel playful and danceable, while still carrying an undercurrent of melancholy. I love the contrast between movement and stillness, light and shadow, and I think this song lives somewhere between those worlds.

Dragon Maiden is about trusting your intuition, embracing uncertainty, and finding the courage to surrender to life’s unfolding. Sometimes the strongest thing we can do is stop trying to control everything and simply allow ourselves to be carried forward. I hope this song encourages people to reconnect with that part of themselves.”

Listen to Drekafljóð / Dragon Maiden here: https://eivor.bfan.link/drekafljod

Speaking about the remarkable video shoot for Drekafljóð / Dragon Maiden, Eivør has divulged:

“Filming the video for Drekafljóð / Dragon Maiden was such a special experience. We spent two days in the beautiful landscape of Svínadalur, Iceland, staying with our friends Mattias and Brynhildur, who generously opened both their home and woodland to us.

One of the central ideas for the video was a rotating platform that Kiddi designed and built especially for the shoot. I spent days rehearsing with my Icelandic sister and choreographer, Aðalheiður Halldórsdóttir, who somehow taught me to sing while spinning without falling over.

I loved performing the song on the rotating platform. It almost felt like travelling through time. It was physically demanding, but once I stopped trying to control it and surrendered to the movement, everything fell into place. That felt deeply connected to the meaning of the song itself.

The entire process was driven by creativity, determination and a willingness to try something that felt almost impossible. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who helped bring this vision to life, and I can’t wait for people to experience the finished film.”

Director Krassasig also expressed:

“I first met Eivør after her concert in Amsterdam last autumn. We spent the evening with her band and crew, had a lot of fun, and quickly realised we shared a similar creative energy. By the end of the night, we both knew we wanted to make something together.

When I first heard Drekafljóð, it immediately pulled me into a dreamlike world. I was fascinated by the contrast between its intimacy and its immense force, and I wanted the visuals to carry that same feeling. The concept came to me almost instantly: a large rotating platform in the middle of a forest, a simple but expressive spatial instrument that could transform movement and create strange, disorienting body dynamics. Rather than relying on visual effects, we wanted to create something tangible that Eivør could physically inhabit.

Bringing that idea to life became an engineering project in itself. The platform was built primarily from standard stage units, but with some important alterations to enable it to rotate. We first constructed it in my studio in Reykjavík, rehearsed there, then transported it into the forest piece by piece and assembled it on location before we could begin filming. Once Eivør stepped onto the platform, her presence and performative energy brought the mechanical structure to life, unleashing the song’s immense energy.”

For over two decades, Faroese artist Eivør has been regarded as one of the most bewitching and fearless voices to have emerged from the Nordic music scene. Ranging across rock, pop noir, jazz and folk to electronica over the course of 11 solo albums, various collaborations, live albums and soundtrack work including The Last Kingdom, God of War and God of War Ragnarök, her musical path has revealed both a restless, explorative spirit and a singer deeply connected to her Faroese roots, earning her the Nordic Council Music Prize along the way.

It’s testament to the singular yet universal nature of her music that her fanbase has grown to include metalheads and the Norse pagan folk scene – for whom her startling voice, hide drum and throat-chant incantation, Trøllabundin, has become an unofficial anthem – as well as the mainstream, all instinctively understanding that music coming from a place of true authenticity knows no boundaries.

If Eivør’s last album, Enn, marked the beginning of a darker, more atmospheric phase, her forthcoming release, Tungl – the Faroese word for ‘moon’ – and her first for the powerhouse German metal label Nuclear Blast, sees her reach further into elemental realms than ever before. Immersive, unmoored and steeped in a sense of time-stretched drama where familiar marker points give way as an inner compass emerges over its 10 searching tracks, it’s an album also in tune with a very contemporary need for navigation, self-belief and rejuvenation in the most uncertain of times.

As Eivør herself says:

“Tungl explores the ever-changing cycles of life – its songs move between moments of tenderness and heartache, love and loss, and the emotional tides that shape us. Like the moon that inspired its title, Tungl serves as a gentle guide through life’s darker passages, illuminating the beauty, resilience, and transformation found along the way.”

The new album features songs from last year’s Hold the Mash EP, including the singles “Make It,” “Novocaine,” “The Healer,” and “Glass Eyes Cryin’,” plus three new songs including “Nothin’ Left To Save,” “Ruby’s Reckoning,” plus an electrifying cover of the Black Crowes’ classic “My Morning Song.”

Husband-and-wife duo Megan Kane (lead vocals) and Dylan Turner (drums) lead Parker Barrow. The band name is a homage to Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow – the infamous American bank robbers during the early 1930’s Great Depression.

A random encounter in 2019 paired Kane with Turner, who was on the hunt for a new singer. Two weeks later they were on the road together, driven by one goal: making their musical dreams a reality. In 2023 Parker Barrow expanded with the full-time inclusion of guitarist and musical director Alex Bender.

Turner lays down a heavy groove while Kane’s electrifying, soulful vocals soar high over the top. Bender’s inventive riffs and fiery playing pull it all together, creating Parker Barrow’s signature sound. The band is rounded out by Will Tipton (guitar), Kyle Priber (bass guitar), and Eric Safka (keyboards).

Parker Barrow’s ‘vintage-shop rock’ sound contains elements of rock, southern rock, blues, and soul; but the band’s brand of music is unmistakably and distinctly their own.

You will find an impressive mix of influences both old and new threaded throughout the band’s sound, including the Rolling Stones, Blackberry Smoke, Allman Brothers Band, Aerosmith, Tedeschi Trucks, the Black Crowes, Whiskey Meyers, and Led Zeppelin.

Parker Barrow’s debut album Jukebox Gypsies was released in 2023 to glowing reviews from music press and fans around the world; with the single “Back to Birmingham” racking up 1.2 million YouTube views.

Parker Barrow has earned a reputation for their powerhouse live shows – blending hard-hitting blues, classic rock swagger, and Southern firepower. The band thrives on connecting with their fans and will continue bringing their message to the people across the US and Europe throughout 2026. Parker Barrow’s music channels the spirit and rebellion that defines true rock and roll – with no apologies.

SHORES OF NULL Announce Fifth Album “Homesick”, Out October 16th

Posted by tarjavirmakari on July 15, 2026
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: SHORES OF NULL. Leave a comment

Italian melodic death doom masters SHORES OF NULL return with their most ambitious and accomplished work to date. The band’s new album, “Homesick”, will be released on October 16, 2026 via Dusktone, marking another important milestone in the career of a group that has established itself as one of the most distinctive and respected names in the contemporary metal landscape.

The video of the first single “Bleed to Life” is now streaming HERE.

Following the acclaimed “The Loss Of Beauty”, SHORES OF NULL continue to expand their emotional and sonic universe with a record that combines their trademark melancholy with a renewed sense of identity and purpose. “Homesick” represents the band at their most mature, featuring ten songs where every composition carries its own unique character, supported by refined arrangements, streamlined structures and a wealth of subtle details waiting to reveal themselves over repeated listens.

The album features the best production in the history of SHORES OF NULL, giving the band’s music an unprecedented level of depth and impact. The clarity and power of the sound enhance the contrast at the core of their style: music that can be deeply melancholic and decadent, yet capable of delivering moments of energy, intensity and emotional elevation. “Homesick” is a testament to a band that has fully consolidated its position within the melodic death doom scene while continuing to evolve.

Frontman Davide Straccione comments: “Those who have followed Shores Of Null from the very beginning know that our influences touch many genres, but I think those who loved ‘The Loss Of Beauty’ won’t be disappointed. I think ‘Homesick’ brings something fresh to the band, without compromising our sound. So I truly hope it will be well received by those who already love Shores Of Null and by potentially new fans.”

Conceived as a complete listening experience rather than a simple collection of individual songs, “Homesick” moves through a wide range of emotional states: longing, loss, anger, vulnerability and the search for a place to belong. Each track offers its own identity and emotional weight, but the full picture only emerges when the album is experienced from beginning to end.

“I think ‘Homesick’ is meant to be experienced as a whole rather than as a collection of separate songs. It is a record that moves through different emotional states and explores feelings that are deeply personal but also universal,” explains Straccione. “We wanted it to feel immersive, with songs that can hit hard in the moment but also reveal more of themselves over repeated listens.”

The album’s lyrical themes revolve around nostalgia, absence and the many meanings attached to the concept of “home”. For Straccione, home is not simply a physical place, but something far more complex: a memory, a person, a wound, or even a version of ourselves that no longer exists.

“I’m fascinated by themes such as nostalgia, loss, belonging, and the ways in which the past continues to shape who we are. Sometimes inspiration simply comes from observing the world around me. Other times it starts with a question I can’t answer, and writing becomes a way to explore it. With ‘Homesick’, I found myself reflecting on the idea of ‘home’ as something much deeper than a place. Many of the lyrics revolve around that tension between longing and pain, between the desire to return and the fear of what might still be waiting for us there.”

The ten songs featured on “Homesick” were selected from a wider pool of ideas developed during the writing process. SHORES OF NULL allowed the material to evolve naturally, reshaping and reworking songs whenever necessary in order to create the strongest and most cohesive album possible. Producer Marco “Cinghio” Mastrobuono played a crucial role in pushing the band’s vision further, guiding the pre-production process and helping refine every detail.

“For both this album and our previous split, ‘Latitudes Of Sorrow’, we made a conscious decision to devote more time to pre-production with Marco ‘Cinghio’ Mastrobuono. Having someone involved who knows our sound so deeply gave us a valuable outside perspective and led to ideas, details and solutions we might not have reached on our own.”

Recorded at Bloom Recording Studios after an extensive pre-production phase, “Homesick” also features two special guest appearances: Natalie Koskinen of Shape Of Despair on “The Numbing Void”, and Shaun MacGowan of My Dying Bride, whose violin can be heard on “Dreaming Of A Scar” and “The Numbing Void”.

The vinyl edition will include a short intro created specifically for the format, designed to enhance the Side A / Side B listening experience without altering the essence of the album.

With “Homesick”, SHORES OF NULL deliver one of the strongest statements of their career: a deeply emotional, carefully crafted and immersive record that confirms their place among the leading forces of melodic death doom.

Closing a day that promises to be full of emotions will be Sandmen, the Metallica tribute band, ready to bring back the power and energy of the legendary American band through an engaging and high-impact performance.

The San Rock Festival continues its growth journey, becoming a reference point for the national rock scene and an important meeting opportunity for artists, audiences, and professionals in the music industry.

An event that proves how live music still represents an extraordinary tool for connection, culture, and the promotion of the territory.

The organization renews its invitation to all rock and metal fans to experience a day of great music in the wonderful setting of the Matese area, where passion, talent, and emotions will be the true protagonists.

The appointment is set for Saturday, August 8th, 2026, at Villa Luisa, San Gregorio Matese (CE).

The San Rock Festival is ready to write a new chapter in its history.
The stage is waiting for you.
