SPIRITS BURNING – Led by DON FALCONE & Feat. HAWKWIND Family Members – Release “Live At Kozfest”

SPIRITS BURNING is a music collective led by Don Falcone. The band celebrate space, prog, new music, and other genres, and have included input from family members of Blue Öyster Cult, Clearlight, Gong, Hawkwind, Van der Graaf Generator, and many other groups, as well as Porcupine Tree’s Steven Wilson and British science fiction and fantasy writer Michael Moorcock. Spirits Burning have released 20 albums, featuring almost 300 musicians.

In 2017, Spirits Burning performed live in England at Kozfest. The line-up: Hawkwind family members Richard Chadwick (drums, vocals), Bridget Wishart (vocals, EWI), and Steve Bemand (guitar, vocals), plus Don Falcone (keyboards, vocals), Kev Ellis (Kaoss Pad, vocals), Martin Plumley (guitar, vocals), and Colin Kafka (bass). This was a rare live show, as Spirits Burning have historically been a studio project. With musicians, located across the world from the U.S. to Europe to Russia to Japan, live shows had never been considered, making this a monumental release for the band.

As Falcone explains, “Our first live album! It captures our journey through the Spirits Burning catalog. Launching with a three-song suite with Bridget on lead and EWI and her Chumley Warner Bros partner Martin Plumley on acoustic guitar – the rest of the band providing a weaving space rock landscape. Then two rockers with me on lead vocals, followed by two driving instrumentals that showcase our rhythm section of Richard, Colin and Steve, along with some fiery guitar solos by Steve. Next is a song with Kev on lead vocals, then our cover of ‘Images,’ a song that Bridget, Richard, and Steve performed with Hawkwind on an early Nineties tour. The set concludes with two vocal songs with Kev and Bridget sharing the mic. The album includes two bonus studio tracks, songs that we performed three nights earlier in Bath, and which we didn’t have time for at Kozfest. The full story of our gig and the year leading up to it is covered in a book I’ve written – ‘One Of The Spirits Burning (A Musical Memoir)’ – coming from Stairway Press in 2025.”

This release captures the band in a unique setting and covering tracks from throughout the bands career. A must have for all Spirits Burning and fans of Prog Rock.

BEYOND THE GATES 2025 Reveals Final Lineup + Daily Schedules

Beyond the Gates Festival 2025 is now unveiling the final lineup for next summer, which is the festival’s most varied lineup to date as 18 of the bands have never performed at BTG before! The festival now welcomes Opeth, Paradise Lost, Candlemass, Taake, Tribulation, Lucifer, Hexvessel, Misþyrming, Attic, Helheim and Gehenna to the already-stacked lineup.

In addition to Taake doing a special 20 year set of ‘Doedskvad,’ this will be Gehenna‘s first show ever with the original line-up! They will be performing a set based on their newly re-released first three albums – ‘The First Spell,’ ‘Seen Through the Veils of Darkness (The Second Spell),’ and ‘Malice.’

The four-day extravaganza will once again take place in Bergen (NO) from July 30 – August 2, across several venues, including USF and the iconic Grieghallen, where many of Norway’s seminal black metal artists recorded their legacy records.

Festival booker Torgrim Øyre comments:

“So this is it, the full line-up for Beyond the Gates 2025 – Chapter XIII. What is more natural than announcing our thirteenth chapter on Friday the 13th?

“What can we say – we are immensely proud of what is without a doubt our most varied line-up to date. 18 of the announced bands have never played the festival before, which we think is a statement of good health for a niche festival operating for 13 years.

“The 2025 line-up boasts a wide selection of curated sets, including a first ever live appearance of the original Gehenna line-up. The reformed band will perform a set based on their newly re-released three first albums. These are jewels in the Norwegian Black Metal canon and their brilliance can not be overstated. Pure class.

“King Diamond will play his first solo concert in Bergen ever, and his first show in Norway in 19 years.

“Opeth has just released their barnstormer ‘The Last Will and Testament’ to great acclaim. The album sees the band return to some of their metal roots, while still keeping their timeless prog elements firmly in place. What an album and what a treat it will be to see the Swedish master in the legendary Grieghallen.

“Abbath Doom Occulta will close the festival by bringing his incredibly awesome ‘Return to the Raven Realms’ tour to Grieghallen, featuring songs from his period in Immortal exclusively. Mind you, the production is a sight to behold.”

Swedish alternative metallers DAYS OF JUPITER are proud to announce the release of their long-awaited fifth studio album, “The World Was Never Enough.” After teasing fans with three singles over the course of this year, the full record will finally see the light of day on February 7, 2025 via RPM. Pre-order/pre-save here: https://daysofjupiter.rpm.link/twwnePR

Made to spread the word of DOJ in new territories, the album consists of 10 excitingly varied tracks, and their brand new single ‘Desolation’ increases the anticipation even further. Lyrically referring to the album title, it showcases the melancholy driven side of the band in the form of an arousing yet emotive ballad, following the heavier soundscapes of opening track ‘Original Sin,’‘Machine,’ and ‘The Fix.’ The message of ‘Desolation’ was impeccably visualised by the group’s long-time partner Andreas Lundin at Litbox Productions.

“‘Desolation’ is a naked, raw and honest confession. ‘When is it enough, are we enough?’ It’s all about the struggle when darkness and anxiety challenge us to our utmost limits and about the question how our mind can transport us to another reality where we are forced to face and fight our thoughts and our beliefs about ourselves,” declares lyricist Robert Hilli.

On “The World Was Never Enough,” DAYS OF JUPITER‘s first album in almost seven years, pure energy blends with raw rock ‘n’ roll spirit, resulting in a soundtrack for rebels and outsiders. It was recorded at Sweden‘s Orange Monkey Studio, where the band look themselves for quite a while, directed by mixing/mastering engineer Peo Hedin and Robert Hilli, who also took care of photography duties for the new campaign, to record the follow-up to “Panoptical” [2018]. Brilliantly summarising the essence of the record, the band hired Zark Metal Artwork to design the “TWWNE” cover which layout was fine worked by Jenny Pettersson.

Spanish dark heavy metal four-piece DARK EMBRACE has unleashed their brand new studio offering, entitled “Land Of Witches”, that is out now on Massacre Records. Available as CD Digipak, Ltd. Vinyl LP and Digital formats, you can order your album copy at: https://lnk.to/landofwitches

In support of their record release, DARK EMBRACE have now shared a music video for the captivating track “The Dark Land”. As the band reveals, it’s “a song about our motherland Galicia and how beautiful it is, with her myths and legends, with her mountains and seas, with her cold and rain… which gives life to everything.”

“Land Of Witches” marks a bold and creative step forward in DARK EMBRACE‘s career. The album features the powerful magick of the black arts, evoked by the disturbed minds of Oscar Rilo, Mou Trashno, Markos Villar and Julio G. Valladares. Among the dark arts used for the album are demon invocations by different kinds of chants, high noises by creepy distortions, low frequences by dead heartbeats and Pagan rhythms from hellish beating skins. The implemented work on this album shows a more complex and stronger band and even oversize the dark essence of their own style on a more mature way.

The band’s fourth studio album was mixed and mastered by Chris Clancy at Audioworks Production, with a cover art by Gustavo Sazes. Order it now on: https://lnk.to/landofwitches

Track Listing:

  1. We, The Witches
