CAELESTIA Present ‘Chapter Of Protection / Martyrs MMXXII’ Music Video

“Chapter of Protection Against Those Who Attack The Circle (Martyrs MMXXII)” features lyrics steeped in ancient Sumerian language and culture, embodying a ritualistic incantation that serves as a prayer for protection against malevolent forces. It’s a journey into the dark heart of ancient rituals, woven into the very fabric of modern death metal.

The song is taken from CAELESTIA’s EP Infernalia, which is out now!

A little more than 10 years after its initial formation, and spanning two full albums and a 2-track single, the Athens based quartet decided to redirect its style from symphonic female-fronted dark metal to extreme metal, encompassing modern death metal standards with melodic black metal passages.

Having shared the stage with major metal acts like Katatonia, The Vision Bleak, ArchEnemy, Draconian, Insomnium, Tribulation and Carach Angren at domestic shows, the band embarked in shows abroad, by taking part in festivals in Belgium (MFVF) and Slovakia, but also in a European Tour (2019) with an all-Norwegian billing, consisting of Vulture Industries, Helheim and Madder Mortem.

Swedish Hard Rock / Heavy Metal band Blister Brigade is set to release their fourth studio album ‘A Rioting New Breed’ on April 25th 2025 via Inverse Records. The first single and music video ‘Paradise industrialized’ is released today.

The band comments:
“This is the first single of the new album. Bassist Anders Gustavsson wrote and presented the music. Everyone got really hooked on the straight-forward, up-tempo, and hard hitting main riff as well as the chugging verses.

The lyrics about the world disappearing in industrial smoke, just came flowing naturally. The albums intro ”Let Thy Wheel Grind” is included in the video-version of the song. The title ”Paradise Industrialized” just had a weird religious church-feeling to it and that’s why the intro came to be very hymn-like. Originally, the intro was ment to be a part of the song but we ended up splitting it up to two different tracks. It´s a very solid, classic Blister-song with some great hooks, heavy riffs and a melodic chorus. We
think it is the perfect first single because it represents the bands sound in a really good way.”

CRYPTOPSY to Reissue Self-Titled Album on January 31st

Even the most legendary heroes have their downfall. Back at the end of the 2000s, the underground had left Cryptopsy for dead thanks to an album that’s best left unspoken. But when the recent JUNO Award winners returned from critic-imposed exile in 2011, they reclaimed their crown as the most vile name in death metal with their self-titled album.

“The self-titled album brought Cryptopsy back to its true intention, which is pushing brutal death metal to the utmost extremes”, says drummer and founding member Flo Mounier. “It marks the beginning of our resurgence”.

Season of Mist is reissuing Cryptopsy’s self-titled album on January 31, 2025.

In order for Cryptopsy to reimpose their supremacy, first, they had to return to the source. Even though he hadn’t picked up a guitar in the seven years since his departure from the band, John Levasseur rejoined for the writing and recording of their self-titled album. The songs needed time to cook, but once Levesseur and Mounier started jamming, they rediscovered the right balance between jazzy experimentation and brutal technical proficiency. “Ominous” still reigns as the only song in their 36 year history with a downtuned guitar, while future set list staple “Two-Pound Torch” introduced their patented, squirming fishhook riff.

Though no longer a fresh face, Matt McGachy established himself as Cryptopsy’s vocalist on the band’s self-titled album. “I pushed myself to make my vocals more brutal”, McGachy remembers, “but this is when I started to come into my own as death metal lyricist”. Every album since has formed around a twisted concept, but Cryptopsy is their first proper concept album. Each song uncovers a sordid chapter in Canadian lore. Eerie cymbal crashes, probing leads and slimy grooves from incoming bassist Olivier Pinard  welcome the chilling UFO sightings on fan favorite “Shag Harbour’s Visitors”. Christian Donaldson guided them through the production process, but his guitar tears a distorted and bloody path through “Golden Square Mile”, which traces back to the mysterious Redpath Murders of 1901.

More than two decades into an already legendary career, Cryptopsy kicked off the band’s triumphant second act.

More praise for Cryptopsy
“This might even be their best since fucking None So Vile” – No Clean Singing

“Cryptopsy needed to once again prove that they could make some tech death that they as a group could be proud of and that statement rings through loud and clear” – Metal Injection

“…they are not only redefining Cryptopsy as a band, but also outlining origins and connecting back to their heritage; this is who they are.” – Last Rites

Tracklist:
1. Two-Pound Torch (5:04)
2. Shag Harbour’s Visitors (4:22)
3. Red-Skinned Scapegoat (5:57)
4. Damned Draft Dodgers (3:58)
5. Amputated Enigma (4:02)
6. The Golden Square Mile (3:13)
7. Ominous (3:47)
8. Cleansing the Hosts (4:36)

Though it pulled them back from the brink, Cryptopsy’s self-titled album was only the beginning. The Canadians continued their brutal resurgence on the double during the mid-2010s with two neck-snapping EPs.

The Book of Suffering was always meant as a companion piece. Cryptopsy framed Tome I around the concept of those phobophiles among us who inflict suffering (including a twisted-but-true tale of a Greyhound bus trip gone horribly awry). Meanwhile, Tome II shifts perspective to those who’ve escaped their tormentors. “Sire of Sin“ – a ripping escape from a notorious religious cult – quickly turned into a staple in the band’s ever-mutating setlist.

“The band is once again at the forefront of creative brutality“, Angry Metal Guy rejoiced.

Now, for the first time, fans can own both EPs on one combined LP when Season of Mist reissues The Book of Suffering this Friday, December 13.

SOULS OF STEEL Present ‘No Man´s Land’ Official Music Video

Heavy metal quartet SOULS OF STEEL is proud to present the official music video for No Man´s Land, a track taken from the band’s critically acclaimed album “Songs of Steel”, out via Wormholedeath.

“No Man’s Land” is a powerful metaphor for humanity’s internal and collective struggle against lies and the constraints imposed by society. It speaks of a world where people are trapped in a monotonous and deceptive existence, constantly judged while desperately seeking to break free from an invisible prison.

“We chose this track for the video because it captures our vision and essence—a combination of intense music and a narrative that invites reflection,” said the band.” The lyrics and music reflect our own experiences, frustrations, and hopes, resonating with anyone who feels stuck in a metaphorical “no man’s land.”

The creative process was intense and highly collaborative. From the very first idea, we aimed to create a track with both emotional and sonic impact. The song’s structure features dynamic shifts: starting slow and heavy, then bursting into speed and aggression, with melodic moments that offer contrast. This approach symbolizes chaos and hope within the struggle.

Founded in 2021 by Benjamin Lopez and Daniel Jiménez, Souls of Steel draws upon the foundational strength of metal while venturing into uncharted sonic territories. Inspired by the likes of Megadeth, Symphony X, and Metallica, the band has meticulously carved their niche, solidifying a lineup featuring Benjamin Lopez (bass, vocals), Daniel Jiménez (lead guitar), Oscar Trujillo (drums), and Sebastián Lorenzana (lead vocals). Their debut album, “Songs of Steel,” released in August 2024, potently declared their musical aspirations, showcasing their raw energy and unyielding spirit.

Live Report: ANTHRAX + KREATOR + TESTAMENT at Alcatraz, Milan – December 6th, 2024

Live report by Christian Tallone – Photos by Fabrizia Cameretti + Christian Tallone

Tonight is the Night!

Tonight marked an event eagerly anticipated for months—a truly historic evening. Three colossal bands in one night promised an unforgettable experience, and it delivered in full. The show had been sold out for two weeks already (as were many other dates on the tour), featuring two overseas giants, ANTHRAX and TESTAMENT, sharing the stage with the German legends KREATOR.

We left sunny Liguria early in the morning, hoping to avoid the usual highway mishaps and secure a parking spot—a wise decision, as it turned out. Arriving in front of ALCATRAZ at 2 PM, we were greeted by a queue that had already formed at 6 AM, even though doors were scheduled to open at 5:30 PM. Nearby was another line for an Anthrax meet-and-greet, where we spotted a few brave fans dressed more for photos with Joey Belladonna than for Milan’s chilly December air. Passion knows no bounds, of course.

Fortunately, we found refuge in a nearby bar, where a medium-sized beer and The Gathering playing over the speakers kept us warm and entertained until it was time to head back to the venue.

At exactly 5:30 PM, the doors opened. We greeted familiar faces, made our way to the photo pit, and settled in. By 6:30 PM, TESTAMENT kicked off what promised to be an evening of pure thrash metal bliss.

TESTAMENT:

The lights went out, and a familiar yet unexpected anthem blasted through the speakers—”(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)” by Beastie Boys. The party vibe quickly gave way to Testament’s thunderous opening with “D.N.R.” followed by the relentless “3 Days in Darkness”.

The San Francisco quintet, led by the immense Chuck Billy, was as solid as ever. Billy’s voice roared with the same power as in his prime, while Alex Skolnick and Eric Peterson’s guitars meshed seamlessly. Steve Di Giorgio’s bass was the band’s driving force, shaking even the foundations of the Duomo.

Newcomer Chris Dovas (of Seven Spires) had the unenviable task of stepping into the shoes of legends like Gene Hoglan and Dave Lombardo. But the young drummer proved more than capable, delivering precision, speed, and power that did justice to his predecessors.

The stage setup was grand, even for a venue of this size. Dovas’ drum kit was elevated, flanked by a dramatic backdrop of infernal scenes created by the talented Eliran Kantor, Testament’s longtime album cover artist.

With just an hour to perform, the band delivered a blistering 12-song set, including highlights like “Children of the Next Level”, “The Formation of Damnation”, “Return to Serenity” and “Low”—a personal favorite from the first Testament album I bought as a kid. The crowd erupted for “More Than Meets the Eye”, and the set ended with a bang as “Into the Pit” sent bodies flying above our heads.

Sixty minutes flew by in a storm of plectrums, smiles, and pure thrash energy. Testament’s performance left the audience primed and ready for Kreator.

KREATOR:

At 8 PM, after a quick stage change, it was time for KREATOR—a band I’d waited over 20 years to see live again. As the speakers played Iron Maiden’s “Run to the Hills” (a bittersweet prelude given the news of Nicko McBrain’s retirement announced later that evening), the intro “Sergio Corbucci Is Dead” led into the ferocious “Hate Über Alles”.

A black banner fell, revealing a jaw-dropping stage setup featuring three massive demons, impaled puppets, pyro effects, and dramatic lighting. The German thrash icons wasted no time, delivering an unrelenting set.

Jürgen Reil’s drumming was a relentless barrage, supported by Frédéric Leclercq’s commanding basslines. Mille Petrozza, ever the charismatic frontman, led the crowd in chanting “HATE ÜBER ALLES”, while Sami Yli-Sirniö executed his solos with surgical precision.

The night was a whirlwind of classics and newer anthems, including “Phantom Antichrist”, “Enemy of God” and “Hordes of Chaos”. Confetti rained down, circle pits spun endlessly, while 3 fans were carried away by Red Cross volunteers.

From “Betrayer” and “Satan Is Real” to the ferocious finale of “Violent Revolution” and “Pleasure to Kill”, Kreator delivered 17 blistering tracks that left the crowd in awe. Though I had hoped to hear “Voices of the Dead”, the setlist was nothing short of perfection.

As the recorded outro “Apocalypticon” played, I vowed never to let so many years pass before seeing Kreator live again.

ANTHRAX:

Unfortunately, due to time constraints, we had to leave before Anthrax took the stage. Their performance surely would have capped off an already spectacular evening.

As we drove home, a bittersweet feeling lingered—like the end of a beautiful vacation. But the night’s energy and memories kept us company, and Anthrax accompanied us on the stereo for the return trip. Now, we wait eagerly for the next concert.

What an amazing experience!
