Ukrainian MORTUI VULTUS Released Extremely Depressing Debut Album “Distant Echoes”

Mortui Vultus began their active journey in 2022 during the peak of the full-scale war. They quickly developed their unique style and started building a community of listeners who support them both in Ukraine and abroad.

Mortui Vultus’ music is a synthesis of post-black metal, blackgaze, screamo, post-rock, and post-metal.

“We don’t think within the boundaries of one or two genres. All the band members listen to very different music, which shapes our eclectic sound” – the musicians explain.

Ukrainian band released debut album titled “Distant Echoes” on January 24, 2025 on all major streaming platforms, except for Russian services.

The album’s lyrics are heavily influenced by the realities of life during and after the war. The band notes that life in such circumstances leaves no room for indifference, which has found its expression in their music. Now, the group aims to convey the feelings of pain and uncertainty experienced here, especially to listeners abroad.

“Distant Echoes” is a profound and complex work in terms of arrangements, characterized by its atmospheric and introspective nature. At the same time, the album is energetic, filled with an aggressive and dense vibe typical of post-black metal. In the lyrics, the band combines the pain of daily life, existential reflections, and an endless yet elusive hope.

“This album is a reflection of a person’s state of mind during the war. Each track feels like a fragment of an inner dialogue, where hope wrestles with despair, and rage hides within melancholy” – the band members comments.

The album cover features a film photograph by Alina Pleska, depicting the sea as a symbol of infinity and the unknown. This image, according to the musicians, best reflects the album’s theme and emotional depth.

Tracklist:

01. Mara
02. Outmoon
03. Klekit
04. Broken Bad
05. Susurration

The man behind Nobody, Tuomas Kauppinen comments the single:
“Hellfire is a Dostoyevskian journey into the minds of a secluded community that brainwashes its members into blind submission. Leah Martin-Brown – acclaimed international singer-songwriter and the most recent addition to the label’s roster – is excited to unveil her new single and official video “Shush”, out now via Frontiers Music Srl.

Originally released in 2024, “Shush” – produced by legendary hitmaker Robert John ‘Mutt’ Lange together with Swedish top producers Tony Nilsson and Tommy Denander – showcases Leah’s raw energy and her powerful vocals.

Listen to “Shush” HERE

Leah commented on the release: “When the single initially dropped in August, I knew that the video was going to be incredibly fun to work on. I wanted to surprise people – the lyrics for this song are so obviously telling a certain type of story and I thought it would be really fun and unexpected to take it to a funnier/darker route. So very excited to share this with the world!”

Born in Brisbane, Queensland, Leah Martin-Brown knew she was destined to become a musician, even before picking up her first guitar at age 11. By the time she was 16, Leah was writing, recording and performing her original music all over the Gold Coast and surrounding areas- regularly being booked for locally run festivals, youth events and the occasional nightclub with her newly named project “Lilly Rouge”.

Leah finished high school and was accepted into the “Bachelor of Popular Music” program at Griffith University which she graduated from in 2011. Afterwards, she moved down to Melbourne, Victoria, and began working on a Master of Music Education at Melbourne University.

September 2012 saw Leah return to her home state of Queensland to begin writing and recording with Brisbane based Producer, Stuart Stuart (The Veronica’s, Sheppard). The two co-wrote over 30 tracks, most of which were released on Lilly Rouge Records. This set Leah and her band up for two Australian National tours, support slots for Everclear, Presidents Of The United States and The Getaway Plan, and a set at 2013’s Big Day Out Festival.

This caught the eyes and ears of Los Angeles, CA, based A&R Company – A&R Worldwide. They invited Leah to California to work on some new music with Producer, Brian Howes (Airbourne, Skillet, Hinder, Nickelback) and showcase at music industry event Musexpo. It was at this point that Leah disbanded Lilly Rouge and created Evol Walks.

Leah spent the next 5 years extensively playing shows in her new home of Los Angeles, as well as touring through Australia, West Coast USA, and parts of Europe, releasing 2 EPs and several singles with the band.

In 2020, Leah relocated to Stockholm, Sweden, where, as well as writing and recording new music, she was given the opportunity to work and record an album with legendary Producer & Songwriter Robert John ‘Mutt’ Lange and acclaimed songwriters & producers Tony Nilsson and Tommy Denander. Tommy is also the guitarist on the whole album and mixed it.

In 2024, Leah Martin-Brown spends the bulk of her time in Los Angeles, but is consistently traveling the world writing, recording and playing wherever she can. She has shared the stage with Dream Theater, Flogging Molly, Nita Strauss, Glen Sobel, Johnny Depp and Joe Perry and many more.

Line Up:
Leah Martin-Brown – Vocals
Tommy Denander – Guitars
Tony Nilsson – Keyboards & Programming
Leah Martin-Brown & Robert John “Mutt” Lange – Backing Vocals

With 2017′s Savage Sinusoid, IGORRR more than proved to be a truly unique musical force and Spirituality And Distortion cements that well-earned reputation. Slamming together disparate musical styles ranging from death and black metal to breakcore, Balkan, baroque, and classical music in a manner that is as unconventional and unpredictable as it is thrilling, IGORRR are unlike any other act. Spirituality And Distortion displays just as broad a range of emotions as sounds. “Getting stuck in only one emotion is very boring to me; life is a wide range of emotions – sometimes you’re happy, sometimes you’re sad, angry, pissed off, nostalgic, or blown away,” states mastermind Gautier Serre. “Life is not only one color. These fourteen tracks are a journey through different states of mind I’ve been through.”
