EVERON Release Dramatic New Single ‘Guilty As Charged’

German progressive rockers Everon have revealed their dramatic new single “Guilty As Charged,” which is taken from ‘Shells,’ their first new album in 16 years! Shells’ will be released on 28 February via Music Theories Recordings. You can listen to “Guilty As Charged” HERE.

Talking about the new song Oliver Philipps says, “Lyrically the song is dealing with self-judgement/regrets, but even the lyrics mostly just come to mind, already while working on the music. There’s lines/phrases coming up naturally that just get stuck with a song, and in the end I just connect the dots, write it down and it’s finished. Not even I always know exactly what they’re about, some are very clear, others are more of a vibe/atmosphere that together with the music create the sphere I feel the song is supposed to have. It’s not an exact science. I am a rather rational person in normal life, but as a musician I rely 100% on intuition and inspiration. I don’t rationalize over it, because my experience is that I ruin it if I do.”

“The band never quit. It was a hiatus,” Philipps explains as he is sitting in his recording studio, talking about the new Everon Record. “Everon didn’t retire or anything, and we never even talked about it,” Philipps reasons. “I always wrote all the music and the lyrics. So that would mean if I didn’t do anything, we wouldn’t do anything. After ‘North’, it just didn’t happen.”

In December, the band announced their return after 16 years with their new song, “No Embrace.” “That made a good opening track because it is straight forward and accessible, it has a more positive energy than some of the other songs that are darker in tone or mood,” he adds about the first taster from the album.

‘Shells’, an album bristling with energy and verve, encapsulating everything that made Everon such a force to be reckoned with in the first place. With songs like the ebullient opener ‘No Embrace’ and the complex patterns of ‘Broken Angels’, the quirk of ‘Pinocchio’s Nose’ and the more heartfelt tones of ‘Monster’, or the epic 14-minute grandeur of closing track ‘Flesh’, Everon have rarely sounded so good. Defiantly old school packed full of progressive flourishes and Philipps’ innate sense of melody set the band apart from many of their peers all those years ago.

“I’ve been working as a producer with other artists through all the years,” explains Philipps, making it very clear those years away from Everon did indeed happen with his Space Lab Studio with Moschus, their drummer, working with artists such as Delain, Charlotte Wessels, progressive metallers Ad Infinitum and Wolverine, Italian progressive outfit THE ONEIRA, LEAH, Angel, and Imperia—the latter vocalists appear on the new album.

Trail of Tears, Imperia and Angel vocalist, Helena Iren Michaelsen, features on ‘Grace’, ‘Broken Angels’, ‘Guilty as Charged’, ‘Shells’ and ‘Children of The Earth’. “Helena happens to be one of my favourite singers and my favourite woman; she’s my wife. So it’s no surprise she appears on this album; it would have been weird if she didn’t,” he says.

Although a new Everon album is something to be celebrated, the road to ‘Shells’ has sadly been tainted by tragedy; during the recording, drummer Moschus died suddenly.

“It was completely out of the blue,” Philipps sighs. “He wasn’t sick or anything. He was just found dead. It was a cardiac arrest or one of these things. The reason I chose to finish the album at all was that he’d already recorded drums for eight of the songs. If it had happened half a year earlier, I wouldn’t have chosen to make an album. I’d been pondering over should I, shouldn’t I for quite some time.”

“Until We Meet Again” stands up as one of the most heart-on-sleeve songs on the album. The lyrics refer to the passing of Moschus. “This was the last song I wrote for this album, and while I was working on it, I got the news that our lifelong friend had died.”

Following Moschus’s passing, US drummer Jason Gianni entered the fray, guesting on the drum tracks that Moschus did not complete.

It’s been sixteen years and now we have ‘Shells’ – Twelve tracks of quality, highly melodic, progressively inclined rock for people to enjoy. It’s certainly good to have Everon back.

Following the explosive double singles ‘Sulfur’ and ‘Sombre 16’, ‘ Line In The Dust’ showcases the Marseille-based quintet’s signature blend of punishing riffs, melodic hooks, and deeply personal lyricism. Frontman Florent Salfati’s powerful vocals lead the charge in what is already being hailed as one of the band’s most emotionally resonant tracks to date.

Known for pushing boundaries and captivating over 900,000 monthly Spotify listeners, LANDMVRKS continue to carve their name into the global metalcore scene. With pre-orders for The Darkest Place I’ve Ever Been now live, fans can expect the album to be their most ambitious and impactful release yet.

LANDMVRKS‘ relentless drive, paired with their world touring success in 2024 and past hits like ‘Creature‘, ensures that A Line In The Dust is another bold step in solidifying their legacy as a force to be reckoned with in modern metalcore.

‘A Line In The Dust’ continues to develop the story of the creature, who, in a moment of self-awareness, realises who she truly is and that she is trapped in her own world. The addition of Mat Welsh emphasises the effect of duality and adds a universal dimension to this story.

DECLINE OF THE I Premiere New Single + Lyric Video ‘Éros N’

French troubled black metallers DECLINE OF THE I are premiering their new single “Éros N” in anticipation of “Wilhlem”; the band’s new studio album, set for release on February 14th via Agonia Records.

The song is accompanied by a lyric video, available here:

DECLINE OF THE I is a combination of multifaceted, post-black metal and exploratory lyrics, that dwell on topics of existential philosophy. Originating from France (Paris, Île-de-France), the band was created by AK, who descends from a rich portfolio of past and on-going acts (including Vorkreist, Merrimack, The Order Of Apollyon, Neo Inferno 262, Malhkebre and Diapsiquir). DECLINE OF THE I is his most personal endeavor yet. The band’s first three albums were inspired by the works of French surgeon and neurologist, Henri Laborit. “Wilhelm” pursues a different approach, based on the output of Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, and marks the second installment of a new trilogy, started by “Johannes” in 2021.

“Wilhelm” builds on the foundation of “Johannes” and adds a more framed dimension; a rigor, a backbone. “Ethics demand an internal code. Loops, repetitions, the relentless nature of a law, all run through its five tracks, spanning over 45 minutes,” comments AK. “It blends abrasive, avant-garde black metal with numerous samples, as well as elements of electro and industrial music. A constrained dive into the angst of ethics.”

The drums for the new album were recorded, mixed and mastered by Francis Caste at Studio Sainte Marthe in 2024. Other instruments were recorded ta the band’s personal studios. T.C. (Regarde Les Hommes Tomber) sang guest vocals on the song “L’Alliance Des Rats”, while Vestal (Merrimack) is the author of spoken words on “L’ Alliance Des Rats” and “The Renouncer”. The artwork was designed by Dehn Sora (Blut Aus Nord, Deathspell Omega). New band photos were shot by William Lacalmontie. The music video for the lead single “L’ Alliance Des Rats” was recorded by Laura-Lee Soleman.

LUNAR Confront Personal Struggles in ‘Fall Back Into Old Habits’ Lyric Video

Top 1st Row – Ryan Price – Bass, Alex Bosson – Drums * Middle 2nd Row – Connor McCray – Lead Guitar, Chandler Mogel – Clean Vocals * Bottom 3rd Row – Carlos Alvarez – Rhythm Guitar, Brian Lewis – Growl Vocals, Anthony Stahl – Keyboards

Sacramento, USA’s progressive metal visionaries LUNAR shares their new lyric video for “Fall Back Into Old Habits”, delivering a powerful exploration of personal patterns and emotional cycles. As the third preview of their upcoming concept album “Tempora Mutantur”, the track promises to be a visceral examination of human vulnerability, showcasing the band’s unique ability to transform personal struggles into universal musical experiences. Drummer Alex Bosson comments on the single:

“This is, I think, the longest, and maybe the “heaviest” song for Lunar thus far. Mostly features the growl vocals from Brian Lewis (although there is some of Chandler’s beautiful voice on here too). Lots of double basses, and multiple shreddy guitar solos (including one from Wildrun’s Wayne Ingram).”

Lyrically, “Fall Back Into Old Habits” deals with addiction, or anything we do that can give us temporary relief to help us get through rough moments, but ultimately have terrible long-term effects on ourselves. The 11-minute epic represents Lunar‘s commitment to creating music that is therapeutically honest and musically innovative.

“Fall Back Into Old Habits” continues Lunar’s tradition of creating progressive metal that challenges listeners to confront their inner landscapes. It is recommended for fans of Haken, Tool, and Porcupine Tree.

Watch and listen to the video for “Fall Back Into Old Habits” via its premiere on MetalAddicts HERE.

Founded by drummer Alex Bosson (Helion Prime, Planeswalker) and Ryan Erwin who passed away in 2018, LUNAR continues in his memory. This fourth full-length “Tempora Mutantur” follows 2023’s “The Illusionist” and features a fresh lineup with the addition of guitarists Carlos Alvarez and Connor McCray (Vis Mystica) along with keyboardist Anthony Stahl plus album guests Wayne Ingram (Wildrun), Joe Gullace (Thank You Scientist) and Sam Vallen (Caligula’s Horse).

A collaboration of musical minds, and with anything LUNAR does; “Tempora Mutantur” is an emotional thematic listening experience with ups and downs musically and lyrically dealing with the passing of time and the effects it has on us physically and mentally.

About Jack Starr:
Starr emerged on the rock and metal scene in 1981, forming, together with Joey Ayvazian, David DeFeis and Joe O’Rielly, the first incarnation of the heavy metal band Virgin Steele. The new band was selected in 1982 by Mike Varney of Shrapnel Records to appear on the label’s compilation album U.S. Metal Volume 2. After only two albums, Virgin Steele of 1981 and Guardians of the Flame of 1982, Starr left Virgin Steele in 1983.

In 1984, Starr started his solo recording career with the album Out of the Darkness, featuring former Riot vocalist Rhett Forrester, members of The Rods and former Rainbow drummer Gary Driscoll. It was released in Europe by Music for Nations and was picked as one of the best albums of the year by the music magazines Kerrang! and Metal Forces.

Starr changed the name of his band to Jack Starr’s Burning Starr and between 1984 and 1989 he produced albums, both solo and with the band. The music of those albums was classic American eighties heavy metal, a style between Poison and Metallica. In 1989 the band dissolved and Starr joined short-lived bands like Strider and Smoke Stack Lightning.

In the following years, Starr once again assembled a group of musicians for a new incarnation of Burning Starr, which performed at the Magic Circle Festival 2008 and released the album Defiance on Manowar’s label Magic Circle Music in 2009. In 2011 they released Land of the Dead with Limb Music. The albums includes ex-Manowar guest musicians Ross the Boss and David Shankle. The band played at the 2013 Keep It True festival and recorded a DVD.
