SERAINA TELLI: Release of Acoustic Album “Black “n” White Sessions” Postponed to December 6th

Unfortunately, the release of the new SERAINA TELLI album ‘Black’n’White Sessions’ has been postponed by three weeks to 6 December. The pre-release single ‘I’m Not Sorry’ (unplugged) feat. Clémentine Delauney will be released on 22 November.

With ‘Black ‘n’ White Sessions’, SERAINA TELLI is releasing a very special album on Metalville Records.

‘Black ‘n’ White Sessions’ shows where Seraina’s musical roots lie: she has reduced her music to the essentials and almost completely freed herself from electricity. She has always sung, written songs in her head and always has an acoustic guitar in the boot of her car for emergencies.

After her #1 album ‘Addicted To Colour’, the artist presents herself in a completely new light. It showcases Seraina’s talent and the captivating songs from her first two albums without any harsh and heavy-sounding instruments in the background.

The album was produced in early 2024 by Rico Horber and Seraina Telli herself. For the songs on the second CD of the double album, she was supported by a number of great musicians, such as Anna Murphy (ex-Eluveitie, Cellar Darling), rock legend Lee Aaron, Chris Boltendahl (Grave Digger), Clementine Delauney (Visions Of Atlantis) and many other well-known artists. Together they created captivating and emotional duet versions of the songs.

Seraina and Rico Horber had had the idea for the ‘Black ‘n’ White Sessions’ for some time, as they wanted to show the world the intimate and vulnerable side of the otherwise hard-rocking woman.

And from black to white, there is no lack of colour here. On the contrary, there is even more to discover between the shades.

“Maiden Japan” Cover w/ Ex Singer Paul Di’anno’s Severed Head Explained By Eddie Creator Derek Riggs

In celebration for Iron Maiden’s current tour, The Man on the Street Kenny Kessel for The Metal Voice caught up with Artist and Eddie Creator Derek Riggs in an exclusive One on One interview.

In the interview Riggs walks through all of his Maiden and non Maiden artwork and explains the age old questions about the alternate Maiden Japan cover with original singer Paul Diann’s head cut off.

Derek Riggs said,” They wanted to call it Maiden Japan cuz it’s a take from Deep Purple (Live Album) ‘Made in Japan’ so it was a pun. So they wanted a cover. The manager (Rob Smallwood) was off with the band somewhere in America and so he phones up and says, ‘I’ll let you get on with it.’ So I thought well the obvious thing was to put Eddie chopping off Paul Di’anno’s head. And so I did that. It’s not a bad portrait for two days work actually, considering all the other things I had to do. So I got it (artwork) down to the record company and then they got a call from the manager and the manager said destroy all of those cuz they printed 250,000 single covers he says. I don’t want to ever see one again. So they destroyed them and I painted a new cover.

And later on when the manager came back he said you know that cover that I had destroyed and I had you repaint the second. He (explained why) said that Paul Di’anno’s voice was giving him problems and he was doing one day in three one day in four you know sometimes one day a week singing. And Maiden just couldn’t deal with that and they couldn’t function under those conditions. So they had to find a new singer. They found Bruce Dickinson in the end but the manager said they’ve been auditioning new singers at this point and he was (Paul Dianno) getting wind of something going on he knew something was happening. And he if he’d (Paul Dianno) have seen that cover at that point we would have freaked out. They’d have been left without a singer for the rest of the tour, potentially. So they had all those destroyed I had to do a different cover and and that’s the story behind that.

DENIGRATE Release Final Single ‘Sesame and Lilies’ from Upcoming Fourth Album

Helsinki-based doom metal band Denigrate has released the final single from their upcoming fourth full length album titled To the Goddess Unknown to be released on November 29th 2024via Inverse Records. The title of the single Sesame and Lilies is a quotation from John Ruskin (1819-1900) and the song narrates and shakes in the spirit of Pre-Raphaelitism. The versatile soundscape that is both extremely heavy and fragile. Like a demolition ball with extremely thin glass surface or a sonata layered with death metal.

Denigrate’s singer Galzi tells about the song:

“Sesame and Lilies is a story of an artists suffering from the lack of spirituality. He blames everyone but himself of that situation. He blame his muse, quills, the ceiling, the walls, his premises. It’s a lament that is easy for all of us to identify with. But it’s always much harder to face your deficiencies and lift yourself up from that swamp. There is only the way up and the way down. Staying still isn’t an option. What is your choice?”

Listen to the single on music services (Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal etc.): https://push.fm/fl/denigrate-sesameandlilies

  • Composition: Seppo Nummela, Teemu Riekki & Timo Kallio
  • Lyrics: Timo Kallio

Since Denigrate was found back in ’96, the inevitable vibe of the band was to be dark, melancholy, tormented, observative.

The quantity of albums released is really not the thing in this band. From the first released album in 2003 to the latest 4th one in 2024 called “To The Goddess Unknown”, decades has changed and so has the band.

After no more than three albums released, after big-time local momentum with a finnish cover song, after mandatory hiatus, after some line-up changes, Denigrate 2024 introduces their absolutely greatest masterpiece to date and shows what only truely experienced bunch of members can achieve.

San Antonio-based alternative rock band Donella Drive has just released their latest single, “Simian Transmission”, alongside an animated video. “Simian Transmission” is available now on all streaming platforms, and the music video can be found on Donella Drive’s official YouTube channel.

Aidan Escalante describes the meaning behind “Simian Transmission”:

“The song ‘Simian Transmission’ is the first single from their upcoming full length album “AXON” set for a February 2025 release. ‘Simian Transmission’ delves into themes of mental chaos and societal disconnection. It portrays a sense of frantic expression and inner turmoil, with imagery of static and fragmented signals reflecting a struggle to find clarity. The repeated emphasis on ‘failure’ highlights feelings of defeat and hopelessness. The title suggests a primal form of communication that has been disrupted, symbolizing a loss of connection and isolation. Overall, the lyrics explore the search for meaning in a chaotic world.”

Andrew Salazar comments on the making of the video:

“Aidan discovered the artwork of James Quigley, aka Gunsho, through the hip hop group Malibu Ken, a project by Aesop Rock and Tobacco. Other artists Gunsho has done work for include the likes of Ozzy Osbourne and Andrew W.K. Intrigued by his unique style, Aidan reached out to Gunsho online, and they immediately hit it off. Gunsho then created the artwork for the video and collaborated with his friend Peter Karpick, a former creative director for Adult Swim and freelance designer who brought the images to life through animation. This collaboration resulted in a music video that we feel, perfectly complements the mood of the song.”

Combining elements of alternative metal, post hardcore, and progresssive rock, San Antonio outliers Donella Drive cannot be categorized by a singular label. Consisting of Aidan Escalante (lead vocals/guitar), Andrew Salazar (bass), Steven Rodriguez (Drums). Donella Drive has expanded upon the previous boundaries of their work since their inception in 2012.

Brothers Escalante and Salazar originally formed the band with the desire to create a sonically engaging music that pushed the rock medium in a new direction. In 2015, Donella Drive released their first album Anomalous, followed by Diy tours, opening for legendary acts such as Megadeth, Deftones, and Scorpions. The band has also toured and supported contemporary bands such as Dead Poet Society, The Callous Daoboys, Protest The Hero, Hail the Sun , He Is Legend, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, and more.

Noteworthy changes such as Escalante’s shift to lead vocals, amplified their sound and led them to create Bloomer in 2020.  Donella Drive remains tenacious in challenging themselves in their pursuit to elevate their music and diverge from commercial endeavors, which is evident in their EP release, Ozell, and the work on their first full length album “AXON” they are currently producing. Their single “Keep You Waiting” peaked at #24 on The Billboard Rock Indicator chart as well as peaking at #10 on The Foundations Chart. The band was also a finalist for The Battle For Wacken Festival and performed at The Viper Room in West Hollywood in 2022.

Donella Drive is:
Aidan Edward Escalante: Vocals/ Guitars
Andrew Salazar: Bass/ Vocals
Steven Edward Rodriguez: Drums
