Poison Blackout, the musical project led by multi-instrumentalist Federico Carbone from Bergamo, returns to the scene with a significant artistic shift: the release of “Forever,” the band’s first-ever single entirely in Italian. Available from October 18, 2024, this track serves as a preview of a series of singles that will be released in the coming months, leading up to a new album set for release in 2025.

“Forever”: A Powerful and Innovative Track
With “Forever,” Poison Blackout showcases their ability to evolve while maintaining their artistic identity. The song stands out with its bold and modern sound, blending the band’s alternative rock roots with elements of drop-tuned guitars and electronic samples. These features bring a fresh sonic edge, making the single an engaging mix of tradition and innovation. Despite the introduction of new sounds, the essence of Poison Blackout remains intact and recognizable, thanks to the stylistic signature of Federico Carbone, the sole permanent member of the project.

“Forever” represents not only a sonic transformation but also a significant step towards the use of the Italian language in their lyrics, opening a new creative phase for the band. This single marks the beginning of a journey that will bring listeners new musical emotions, while continuing to focus on deep themes and intense soundscapes.

Poison Blackout: A Constantly Evolving Project
Poison Blackout began as the solo project of Federico Carbone, a versatile and experimental artist who has carved out a significant space in the Italian music scene over the years. The band gained recognition with successful singles like “One Love,” premiered exclusively on Metal Hammer, and “Not Fair,” performed on the prestigious Ariston stage during the Sanremo Rock finals. Their first official album, Inner Shelters And Starry Skies, released in November 2021, propelled the band’s career, followed by a tour across major Italian cities. With their second EP, Blood n’ Sins (Jan. 2023), Poison Blackout have consolidated their success with a series of acclaimed live performances throughout Italy.

Following the release of “Fix Myself” in January 2024, their last track in English, Poison Blackout is now embarking on a new creative phase, embracing the Italian language with “Forever.” This single is just the beginning of a new musical journey that will culminate in 2025 with the release of a highly anticipated album, set to surprise and captivate new listeners.

Availability and Distribution
“Forever” will be available starting October 18, 2024, on all major digital streaming platforms, distributed by Wanikiya Record/Promotion. Stay connected with Poison Blackout for updates on upcoming singles and the forthcoming album.

Focus Superstar JAN AKKERMAN Joins MELANIE for Stunning 1988 Live Album

Cleopatra’s groundbreaking series of Melanie reissues and new releases continues with one of the most legendary, but also unexpected, collaborations in her long career.

In May 1988, Melanie was invited to open the annual Internationale Chansonweek in Leiden, Netherlands, and initially intended performing with a scratch band of local musicians.  At the next-to-last-minute, however, all concerned agreed that the band was not working out.

Enter, then, Jan Akkerman – widely regarded among the greatest guitarists the Netherlands had ever produced, and best-known for the years he spent with Focus, the long-running Dutch prog act whose worldwide hits included a string of groundbreaking albums and the still-sensational “Hocus Pocus.”

They rehearsed at a friend’s house for a couple of hours on the day before the show, before Akkerman introduced one of his own friends, Santana percussionist Santana, Raul Rekow, and that was the trio that took the Chansonweek stage for a dynamic set that ranged across both old Melanie favorites and material from her latest album, and still found room for Akkerman and Rekow to improvise a fabulous instrumental of their own.

“I knew [Jan’s] music,” Melanie said last year, recalling how her husband and producer Peter Schekeryk was a fan of Focus “back in the day.  I was, too, but it was Peter who would bring the albums home, and we’d sit there listening to these amazing musicians, making the most incredible music.

“And suddenly, there I was on stage with one of them, playing my songs! I kept thinking I ought to pinch myself, but I didn’t because it felt so good.”

Melanie In Focus is the first ever release of this performance, the CD and vinyl both alive with all the magic that fans of both Melanie and Akkerman have come to expect.  With sleeve art that captures the spirit of Focus’s own albums, it is a must-listen for everyone who has ever been touched by the two artists’ music, and confirmation of something else Melanie said last year.

She was recalling how  some of her favorite musical moments were those when she was able to surprise her fans. A song, a joke, a hairstyle… “I really enjoyed the looks on their faces, or the sound of their voices,” she explained.  “I’ve seen so many artists who just play their set or record their songs and you know exactly what you’re going to get from them. I never wanted people to say that about me.”

This, however, was the night when she surprised even herself.

WEITE Release First Single ‘Roter Traum’ from Upcoming Studio Album

WEITE, the prog-psych/krautrock band featuring Nicholas DiSalvo (Elder, Delving), Michael Risberg (Elder, delving), Ingwer Boysen (delving), Ben Lubin (Lawns) and Fabien deMenou (Perilymph), has released a first track taken from their forthcoming studio album “Oase”, to arrive on November 22, 2024 through Stickman Records! In support, Weite will be starting on tour in early 2025. Find all upcoming dates listed below!

“Oase” is the sophomore album from the Berlin-based collective, and the follow-up to the band’s 2023 debut LP “Assemblage”. Clocking in at almost an hour, “Oase” — German for “Oasis” — takes listeners on an intricate and textured journey that draws inspiration from the pioneering spirit of 70s psychedelic rock, blending influences from “Canterbury scene” prog, Krautrock, early electronica, post rock, and Americana. The new album showcases Weite‘s ability to merge the old with the new, creating an immersive, exploratory sound that moves from contemplative and pastoral to riffy and doomy without ever sacrificing melody. “Oase” is characterized by longer expansive, atmospheric compositions yet is undoubtedly more composed than the band’s debut, with more of a focus on songs, albeit in the broader sense of the word. With the focus on melody, texture and mood— although not necessarily always in that order — Weite create a sound that’s intricate and meditative, inviting the listener to embark on a journey through shifting soundscapes and evolving musical narratives.

Listen to the band’s first single, “Roter Traum”, out now on all streaming services at:

“Oase” track listing:

  1. Versteinert
  2. Time Will Paint Another Picture
  3. (einschlafphase)
  4. Roter Traum
  5. Woodbury Hollow
  6. Eigengrau
  7. The Slow Wave

Weite was formed in Berlin in winter 2022 by bassist Ingwer Boysen recruiting drummer Nick DiSalvo  and guitarists Michael Risberg and Ben Lubin. Initially intended as a one-off recording session, the four recognized an obvious musical chemistry and common ground and decided to turn the project into a proper band. Keyboardist Fabien deMenou joined in 2024.

“We’re really proud of this album and worked super hard to channel all our influences into it: everything from the 70s prog we all love, to krautrock, americana and ambient, among other stuff,” Ben Lubin recently said. “It’s definitely much stronger compositionally-speaking because of it, and we’re a much better band after gigging over the past year since the first LP came out.”

“Weite has come to embody a sort of collective spirit both within the band and within our little Berlin scene – musicians and friends, all in a seemingly rotating cast with each others’ bands, as guest musicians, tour help, etc.”, Nick DiSalvo adds. “Each member takes the strengths and experiences from their other projects and pours it into our music, which results in a pretty interesting mashup, especially the longer we play together. “Oase” is for me personally an homage to the little oases in life: the couch, the rehearsal space, and yes, even the Späti – a Berlin biotope, a small convenience store where you can sit and take a break from the daily stress and enjoy a drink, a smoke or a conversation.”

“Oase” will be available on 180gr. pink marbled 2LP, on CD and digitally on November 22, 2024 via Stickman Records. The album pre-sale will soon be available via https://www.stickman-records.com

Dusktone welcomes Germany’s ALTAR OV ASTERIA to the label’s roster, announcing their entrancing debut album, “Éna”, for November release.

The first single, “Kataklysm”, is now streaming at THIS LOCATION.

Established by two girls from the Dresden area, Satyra and Melpomene, both heavily involved in the rich local underground, ALTAR OV ASTERIA was envisioned and formed through its members’ shared influence of black metal. The goal of the band’s material, embodied in their “Éna” debut, is to balance visceral energy with enveloping atmosphere and dark melody, creating a sound both rooted in black metal tradition and expansive new avantgarde sounds.

“Imagine you would wake up in a world full of mysteries and realities woven into each other, like in a story book of the past centuries of Dante Alighieri or Homer. Two black-robed mysteries in gold-snake masks wake you up from the heavy dorm with blackened sirens crushing your ears, mesmerizing your mind to sense the allegories of humankind existence. You’ve got an invitation to a storybook of hellish Sodom, chapter by chapter illustrating thy and foreign dystopia”.

Dusktone will release “Éna” on CD and all digital platforms on November 25th 2024.

NEÀNDER Release Video for Second Single ‘Krater’ from Upcoming Album

Anticipation is building for the release of neànder‘s third studio album, “III”, set to be released on November 8, 2024 via Through Love Records. Today, the Berlin-based heavy instrumental outfit has unveiled the second pre-release single from their upcoming album, titled ‘Krater’, along with a music video directed and cut by Chariot Of The Black Moth.

Who says that a good chorus has to be sung? ‘Krater’, the new neànder single has such a catchy chorus that you won’t forget it it so quickly. It is played with: Guitars. Just like neànder makes the most elegant instrumental heavy guitar music ever. In ‘Krater’ you might think of Ennio Morricone at the beginning, the song has a Western feeling, contains traces of folk and then carries you away with monolithic riffs that take you on a cathartic power trip, all of this combined with majestic strings that were played and arranged by Judith Retzlik.

When it comes to the upcoming album “III” by neànder, you might have to imagine as if Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Prong, Mogwai, Black Sabbath, Ennio Morricone, Pink Floyd, Faith No More and Venom 2024 playing a session together. neànder always use the multitude of their influences in a song-oriented way.

“III” is a focused, tidy and therefore stringent album in the best sense of the word. “Reduction was more important than ever before,“ says Jan Korbach. “Where we would have played out a riff or passage endlessly in the past, this time we limited ourselves to the essentials.“

On “III”, everything is in motion, and with their upcoming full-length the Berlin band finally breaks the formal boundaries of instrumental alternative music. Set for release on November 8 via Through Love Records, the album is available for pre-order at THIS LOCATION
