Marjana Semkina has unveiled a video for her single ‘Anything But Sleep’ featuring Jim Grey  of  Caligula’s Horse, taken from her stunning new solo LP, Sirin, out now.

Purchase Sirin here: https://marjanasemkina.bandcamp.com/album/sirin

Marjana comments on working with Jim Grey: “I’m so thrilled with this collaboration – Jim has one of the most beautiful voices and hearing him on my song and singing with him was such a special experience.”

On the single and video, she continues: “The song in my true fashion is about a dead girl haunting her abusive former lover and gradually driving him insane (something I definitely will do when I die) and the music video was produced in collaboration with the wonderful Cinebuds in The Netherlands over a very stormy summer weekend. Jim‘s footage was kindly provided by the old friend Adrian Goleby.

“Overall I think it’s my favourite music video i’ve ever done and what a joy it is to be able to work with so many incredibly talented people.”

Marjana Semkina has also announced a one off show, performing songs from Sirin and more. This will be held at St Matthias Church, Stoke Newington, on 1st November 2024. The evening will be headlined by her band Iamthemorning, and her bandmate Gleb Kolyadin will also perform a set of his solo work.

Marjana‘s live band features Liam McLaughlin on guitar and bass, Lulu de la Rosa on keys and Evan Carson on drums and percussion.

Tickets are available here: https://wegottickets.com/event/631950

Sirin is a journey of dark stories and fairy tales, told with Marjana’s uniquely captivating voice, on a foundation of detailed musical arrangements. However there is a prevailing darkness and grief, inspired by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, with the first single about by the protests.

On the album Sirin, she continues: “Sirin is a mythical creature from ancient Slavic mythology, half-bird half-woman, she’s a harbinger of bad luck and death, and it’s believed that if you meet Sirin a big catastrophe will happen – except in case with the events surrounding this album it’s already happened. Sirin cries and mourns for humankind, and nothing can be more appropriate in this day and age. Sirin is one of very few creatures that can travel between worlds – a world of gods of light, a world of dark deities (in some versions an alternative to the underworld) and a world of mortals. This felt appropriate because the album is quite diverse in sound and some might think parts of it sound happy, but the subject matter is almost always quite morbid, which creates a contrast that I enjoy.

“I was never very political and I always tried to keep my art within the realms of lore, literature and imagination. But when events like the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine happen, it is impossible – and I’d even say, unforgivable – to stay silent and do nothing. Thankfully being based in the UK I feel rather safe speaking out against the current regime and I do have a platform that I can use to try and show the world that Russians disagree with the actions of the Russian government, and there are so many of us that only wish for this to be over. I’m just trying to show it in the most artistic way I can muster.”

Sirin track list:

01 We Are The Ocean
02 Lost But At Peace
03 Anything But Sleep (feat. Jim Grey)
04 Pygmalion
05 Angel Street
06 Gone
07 Death And The Maiden (feat. Mick Moss)
08 The Storm
09 Swan Song
10 This Silence This Dreaming

Now permanently based in the UK, Marjana has been an active campaigner against the Russian occupation in Ukraine and has raised thousands of pounds via her activities to support the victims of war. She will continue her work, including selling a number of a limited run of handwritten lyrics from Sirin, with the money going to Ukrainian charities. Acts punishable by 15 years imprisonment should she return home.

Marjana is joined by an array of world class musicians (detailed below), which includes two very special guest vocal performances from Jim Grey (Caligula’s Horse) and Mick Moss (Antimatter).

Known for her work as the vocalist of prog duo Iamthemorning, self-exiled Russian Marjana has forged a successful solo career with two critically acclaimed solo releases: her 2020 debut solo album Sleepwalking, and 2021 follow-up EP Disillusioned.

Marjana has previously collaborated with many incredible artists, including The Flower Kings, Jordan Rudess, Blackbriar, as well as Anna Murphy with their Maer project. Combined with her work in Iamthemorning, her experiences have enabled her to become one of the most unique and exciting solo artists in the progressive world today.

Adelaide’s rising metal/punk act, Lonely Empire, are set to make waves with the release of their debut single, ‘Like a Misfit,’ on October 4 via Golden Robot Records, now available across all streaming platforms.

‘Like a Misfit’
 is a raw, powerful blend of nu-metal and metalcore, inspired by the struggles of feeling like an outsider. With heavy riffs, relentless energy, and emotionally charged vocals, the song resonates with those who’ve ever felt like they don’t belong.

Lead singer, Lucas Magourilos, shares: “The track is based on my own experiences growing up – feeling misunderstood and like an outcast throughout my school years. It’s about realizing how, in life, you’re often pressured to follow the collective or face being ridiculed.”

Stream/buy here: https://orcd.co/like-a-misfit

The debut single showcases Lonely Empire’s unapologetic sound and their ability to fuse aggressive instrumentals with deeply personal, relatable themes. Fans of bands like Slipknot, Linkin Park, and Bring Me the Horizon will feel right at home in this adrenaline-fueled anthem.

‘Like a Misfit‘ marks the first taste of what’s to come from Lonely Empire as they carve out their place in the heavy music scene. With their intense live performances and a message that speaks directly to the outcasts, the band is poised to make a big impact. More exciting news from Lonely Empire is on the horizon as they gear up for their upcoming releases.

SEETHING AKIRA Release Fabulous New Single ‘Sunflower Shadows’

Hitting a slightly more mellow note than their usual fare, Seething Akira offer up the rather fabulous ‘Sunflower Shadows‘ as their latest single. The band state: “Sunflower Shadows, Seething Akira’s 3rd offering from their upcoming album “Cancel Estate” coming 25th October! This single shows a much more positive perspective from the sextet, whilst still displaying that signature level of aggression.”

Presave: https://earache.lnk.to/CancelEstate – Preorder: https://seethingakira.bigcartel.com/

Following on from the release of their critically acclaimed ‘Nozomi’, Seething Akira are gearing up for their new album ‘Cancel Estate, to be released on 25th October.
Seething Akira are a band built on the foundations of connection, sharing something special with a stranger and forming a bond that lasts a lifetime. Taking the most gloriously crushing parts of metalcore and joyfully triumphant elements of EDM and smashing them together with lashings of British grit, determination and cheek, they craft a uniquely vibrant experience. Delivering as many breakdowns that could cut diamonds as techno breaks that wouldn’t sound out of place in the clubs of Berlin, they strive to unite two worlds with more in common than many think.

Inspired by the swell of the pit as much as the heat of the dancefloor, movement is encouraged, but so is critical thought. Though the band’s music straddles the shoulders of the community proudly, it is when they are on stage together that it truly comes to life. They’ve shared their hopeful philosophy with everyone from Don Broco and Ingested to Skindred, Killswitch Engage and Sleep Token, as well as decimating stages at Download, Bloodstock and Victorious. And each performance they been a part of has been viewed as a blessing, a chance to change someone’s perspective with the euphoria they have forged. There is no barrier between the band and the crowd, they are one in these moments.

10/10 – Emerging Rock Bands: “Nozomi – New metal masterpiece!” Devolution Magazine – “In Nozomi they’ve created something very special. What these six guys from Portsmouth have just produced is a contender for album of the year.”

Bloodstock Main Stage 2023: MetalTalk – “With their adrenaline-fuelled approach, they tore the Bloodstock arena apart, and the masses responded in kind with pits and circles aplenty.”

Dark Arts Conspiracy: “They are a band that need to be seen to be believed, especially in the live environment, where they truly thrive, being in their element. It’s no surprise that they have already supported the likes of Skindred, Hacktivist and Don Broco.”

Seething Akira:
When did waking up with air in our lungs and blood in our veins stop being all we needed to know that life is wonderful?
At the end of everything, you won’t be thinking of the things you bought or the number of followers you had. You’ll be looking at the places you saw, the things you felt and the people you were with. That’s what this should all be about. It’s all this has ever been about. We just need a bit of reminding every now and then.

Seething Akira have made it their mission to be that reminder. That’s because they are a band built on the foundations of connection. Of sharing something special with a stranger and forming a bond that lasts a lifetime. It’s a sentiment that made them fall in love with heavy music in the first place, and since their inception in 2017, they have been striving to leave their mark on the genre in the same way their heroes have.

The future is more uncertain than it has ever been, but what we can control is the things that we stand for. As beautifully human as they are, they are wonderfully otherworldly; Seething Akira know who they are and what they believe now more than ever. Of what it means to make the most of our time and endeavour to make every moment one to remember. They want to be a flag in the ground for everybody else who feels the same.
So, are you coming along for the ride?

Upcoming shows:

1st Nov, The Night Before Rabidfest, Jericho Tavern, Oxford
3rd Nov, Takedown Festival Showcase, Guildhall, Portsmouth

SKAM have released their video for huge new single ‘Rising Fever’, taken from the new album ‘From The Depths’ set for release on 29th November.

Neal states:

“This song is about our journey in the Music Industry, and tells the story behind the new album. We decided not to compromise on our sound and what we are about as a band, and write songs that we truly believe in and love. The lyrics are about all of the so called ‘industry experts’ we have come across over the years who have told us to write songs a certain way, or look a certain way. We aren’t built that way, and never will be, so this is for them!”

Preorder ‘From The Depths’ here: https://skamuk.com/shop/

To date, the band have independently released 3 albums. ‘It’s Come to This’ (2011) and ‘Peacemaker’ (2014) were released to critical acclaim and the band established themselves as a live force to be reckoned with.

The songs were described as ‘gritty anthemic rockers’ by Classic Rock Magazine and the album received a number of 5 star reviews from the UK Music press. Lead single ‘Take it Or Leave it’ was voted as ‘track of the week’ by Classic Rock Magazine and has since been included on Earache Records ‘New Wave of Rock N Roll’ compilation vinyl. In 2021, broke into the Official UK Rock Charts with their ‘Intra’ EP hitting number 6. Part 2 ‘Venous’ went one better making it to number 5.

On 4th October, the band returned with new single ‘Rising Fever‘, taken from upcoming release ‘From The Depths’, their most eclectic and ambitious album yet. NEVER OBEY AGAIN Release New Single ‘Trust’

photo by Oleksandr Kmit

NEVER OBEY AGAIN have released “Trust”, third single taken from the eponymous new album to be released on October 18th by Scarlet Records.

“Trust” is a soul relieving track. Strong and emotional lyrics alongside with a powerful chorus make this track easy to be remembered and played loud whenever is needed to let it all out. Adulthood brings consciousness and awareness of who we are and what we are capable of. On the other hand, dealing with our limits and accepting them it’s a struggle for many of us. Many rely on faith, others on trust in themselves and live life at its fullest.

  • sophomore record for the up’n’coming Italian modern metal band with a strong digital fanbase;
  • powerful, catchy and poignant songs based on ‘authenticity’ as main artistic asset;
  • outstanding vocal performance by charismatic frontwoman Carol;
  • Never Obey Again is an exciting live band that successfully toured Holland and Belgium this spring and will be touring Holland, Belgium, Germany and Austria next year;
  • first edition will be released in a 4-panel digipack;
  • for fans of Evanescence, Halestorm, Linkin Park, Spiritbox, I Prevail, In This Moment;

“Trust” will be released in the following formats: digipack CD, digital

Artwork by Never Obey Again

Never Obey Again is a female fronted alternative unit that blends heavy sounds and modern electronic elements to create captivating, emotional sound scenarios. They did it effortlessly on the 2023 debut album “The End Of An Era”; they did it better and with an even stronger personal touch on their brand new record, where extraordinary singer Carol shines throughout the entire work.

On one hand, “Trust” has been conceived as ‘music for everyone’ regardless of gender or age as its lyrics and vocals could resonate with anyone; words and melodies that allow the listener to feel like home, protected and safe in sharing feelings.

On the other hand, it represents the band’s decision to go heavier and dress those lyrics with their own sound avoiding any compromise; it sounds deeper, rough and straight to the point. It sounds like Never Obey Again and nothing else.

“Trust” tracklist:
01 Animal By Choice
02 G.O.D. (Given Or Denied)
03 Never Feel, Never Fear
04 Give Me A Fuckin’ Break
05 Under My Skin, Before Your Eyes
06 Lost…
07 Control
08 I Wish
09 Conquer And Divide
10 Waterfall
11 Trust

Never Obey Again:
Carolina Bertelegni – vocals
Alessandro Tuvo – guitar
Alex Pedrotti – guitar
Cristiano Trappoli – bass
Marco Binda – drums

LIVLØS Release Third Album “The Crescent King” + Announce National Tour

After three preceding singles and music videos, Danish melodic death metal titans LIVLØS
release their epic third full length, the concept album ‘The Crescent King’ today alongside a video for the title track. With the new record, LIVLØS continues to deliver its punishing style of heavy grooves, melancholic melodies and progressive musicianship, while unfolding a cosmological fantasy-inspired narrative of ‘The Crescent King’ – a vivid symbol of humanity, its psyche and cyclus in the universe.

The band states on the album: “Our commitment to improvement extends beyond songwriting. With technical prowess, world-building, and storytelling, ‘The Crescent King’ embodies years of hard work. It tells the dystopian tale of humanity’s downfall in a distant aeon. Prepare for an unforgettable experience!”

Listen to LIVLØS’ new album ‘The Crescent King’ HERE

‘The Crescent King’ is produced by Jacob Bredahl (Lifesick, Eyes), mastered by Brad Boatright (Obituary, Suicide Silence, Gatecreeper, Nails) and carries artwork by Eliran Kantor (Testament, Bloodbath, Kreator, Hate Eternal). The album is released on vinyl, CD and digital formats, and the vinyl is available in three editions – 300 black copies, 100 transparent petrol copies and 100 marble yellow copies. Physical formats are available HERE and digital formats can be reached HERE.

Furthermore, LIVLØS has just announced a national tour that includes festival appearances in the fall alongside 2025 headliner shows in some of the biggest cities of Denmark. Support on the headliner dates comes from exciting newcomers Thus and 802. Tickets are available HERE.

  3. The Crescent King
  4. Maelstrom
  5. Usurpers
  6. Scourge of the Stars
  7. Harvest
  8. Solace
  9. Throne of Cosm
  10. Endless Majesty

Since the band’s inception in 2014, LIVLØS has proven themselves to be an ingenious force on the international death metal scene. Since the release of their deeply personal debut album “Into Beyond” (2018), which depicted a band in a time of heavy personal struggle, they have continued to grow – which is evident in both songwriting and technical prowess. Their second album “And Then There Were None” (2021), released by Napalm Records, immediately sounded darker and more ambitious, which resonated with fans and critics alike.

Following the second album’s release, LIVLØS toured extensively, including a big sold out Copenhagen headliner, a European tour with Konvent and Implore, and a national headliner tour alongside appearances at Inferno Festival, Tallinn Music Week and not least the band’s triumphant live peak in front of 14.000 people at Copenhell in 2023.

Now, LIVLØS can finally unveil their third full length album, the conceptual cosmo-narrative ‘The Crescent King’. While bearing LIVLØS’ trademarks of heavy, death metallic grooves, melancholic, grandiose melodies and progressive musicianship, the music on ‘The Crescent King’ compliments the ambitious concept as far as the prog elements now standing strong alongside traits of experimental dissonance to balance the band’s ear for majestic melodies.

As on the prior releases, on our very race, homo sapiens, is also the focus of LIVLØS’ scrutiny on ‘The Crescent King’. This time, the band wished to conceive a fictional, conceptual piece throwing its gaze on the more general dispositions of the human condition, its psyche and place in the cosmic cyclus of the universe.

Thus, ‘The Crescent King’ is a symbol of humankind in all its aspects, good and evil and in between. It is the tale of the king undertaking a journey through space and time, in which he discovers the secrets of himself and humankind. But it is also a story on how a good soul and its benevolent intentions can corrupt in the face of power, delusion and despair.

‘The Crescent King’ is out now on Noctum Productions.

LIVLØS are:
Niklas Lykke Frederiksen – vocals
Franz Aleksander Posch – guitar
Kenneth Søe Breinbjerg – guitar
Benjamin Andreassen – bass
Thomas Dannemand Jensen – drums
