After the release of their first energy packed debut single, “I’ll Give You Hell”, Finnish modern metal act ARCTIS is ready to unleash their second single taken from their upcoming self-titled debut album, out November 1, 2024 via Napalm Records. The new track is a cover of Swedish alternative rock band Lambretta’s hit single “Bimbo”, which has amassed over five million streams to date in its original form. ARCTIS are set to add to the song’s impressive reception with the release of their own rendition alongside a new official music video.

ARCTIS fuses nature and technology, inspired by Finland’s seasonal extremes, capturing the imagination of fans through storytelling that goes beyond the music itself. With their talent, the band will soon head out on a tour with Finnish metal masters Apocalyptica to present their self-titled debut album live on stage – cementing their status as a must-see act. Arctis was produced by Jimmy Westerlund (Sturm und Drang), mixed by Stefan Glaumann (Rammstein), and mastered by Svante Forsbäck (Rammstein).

Join ARCTIS on a thrilling adventure that combines elements of both nature and technology!

ARCTIS comment on their new single:
“We are thrilled to announce the release of our brand new single, a cover of the 2000s hit ‘Bimbo’ by Lambretta! This song was a standout track back in the day, and we felt it deserved to be brought back for a new audience to enjoy. By bringing in the intensity of our sound, we’ve reimagined this track, while keeping its original spirit alive. We can’t wait for everyone to hear our take on it and hope it brings the same excitement and nostalgia it gave us. Get ready for an epic journey — our version Bimbo is out now!”

ARCTIS is more than just a band—it’s an otherworldly experience, led by the enigmatic and powerful Ice Queen, Alva. Draped in her shining white battle suit, Alva’s ethereal presence transcends the stage, her voice weaving through realms both known and unknown, pulling her followers into a captivating journey. By her side stand the dark-clad warriors: Björn the Captain, whose unshakable command leads the band into uncharted sonic territories; Michael the Magician, a mysterious figure whose fingers conjure sounds that transport audiences across time and space; Mats the Rambler, the wild-hearted spirit who channels untamed energy into every note; and Mika the Sage, whose rhythmic pulse guides ARCTIS through the mystical realms they explore.

Together, these figures form a force unlike any other—a powerful and dynamic energy that blurs the lines between reality and fantasy. On stage, they do not simply perform, they create an experience—one that immerses fans in the ARCTIS universe, where music, story, and atmosphere collide, leaving a lasting imprint on all who witness their journey. ARCTIS is not just a sound; it is a feeling, a moment suspended in time, an escape into a world where legends come to life.

Drawing inspiration on northern themes as metaphors, Arctis explores mental struggles and the internal battles within modern chaos. The strong opener, “I’ll Give You Hell”, delves into the complexities of romance, highlighting the inevitable downfall that arises from a relationship, where honesty and commitment are lacking. With a 2000s pop-rock vibe, “Remedy” addresses drug addiction and the steep price one is willing to pay for it. The mystical “Tell Me Why” paints a starry landscape of anger and self-deception while the enchanting “Frozen Swan” showcases personal musical talent while exploring the concept of self-freedom. This smoothly transitions into the upbeat “Fire”, which explores the risks of drug consumption, before flowing seamlessly into “When The Lights Go Out” lyrically exploring nocturnal metaphors through vivid passages. Closing the album, “Theatre Of Tragedy” features powerful guitar riffs, underscoring the limitations of personal human struggle.

Whether through music, artwork, or storytelling, ARCTIS creates a multi-dimensional world that fans can immerse themselves in and explore, transcending genre boundaries and offering a truly unique experience. Prepare for an onslaught of powerful riffs, epic melodies, and the raw energy that has never been seen before!

ARCTIS about their debut album:
“The moment we’ve been dreaming of is finally here, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you all! It’s been a long road, filled with hard work, late nights, and an unbreakable passion for music, but we’re thrilled to announce that our first single is out, our debut album is on the way, and we’re hitting the road for our first tour!

Now, we’re ready to take on the world, bring our music to life on stage, and connect with each and every one of you. This is just the beginning, and we’re so happy to have you with us as we start this next chapter.

Get ready, because we’re coming in full force – and we can’t wait to see you on the road!”

Of course, fans can support Eivør by buying merchandise at any stop along her tour. But you don’t have to wait!  Her new line of ENN-themed apparel is now available to order online, here.

Eivør calls her Nordic home in the remote Faroe Islands a landscape of extremes. Sitting in the North Atlantic Ocean just above Scotland and southeast of Iceland, with a total population of about 50,000, the climate is “full of contrasts—very dark, heavy winters and bright summers.” Growing up in a small village there, of about 400 people, it’s those contrasts that have inspired Eivør’s music throughout her career.

Often considered to be one of the most prolific and unique Nordic artists of her generation, Eivør has released 11 studio albums to date, crossing musical genres and always pushing the envelope of the expected. Awarded with the Nordic Council Music Price in 2021, Eivør’s musical journey continues to fascinate and has seen her perform across the globe; from Europe’s biggest festival stages to providing the soundtrack to Netflix’s hit series The Last Kingdom and the video game God of War: Ragnarök.

Her new album ENN ties back to Eivør’s Nordic roots. Most of the lyrics, sung entirely in Faroese, were penned in collaboration with the Faroese poet Marjun Syderbø Kjelnæs. Eivør calls the lyrics to the title track especially “hardcore.” The song is about war—“the wars that are going on in the world especially lately, but that have always been going on,” Eivør says, “and how to find a glimpse of light in this overwhelming darkness.” The guttural penultimate track, “UPP ÚR ØSKUNI / RISE FROM THE ASHES,” is a thrilling outlier mixing growling beatboxing with visceral throat singing (it’s certainly Eivør’s most metal moment).

ENN stands out among Eivør’s discography as a bold new venture. Her debut for Season of Mist, the album leans heavier into dark electronics. Her new Prophet-5 synthesizer hardly made it out of the box before she keyed up “HUGSI BERT UM TEG/STILL JUST YOU”, a swooning bit of dream-pop that dances like the colors of the milky way.

On a grand scale, ENN follows a cosmic arc. The title track is a symphonic, war-torn space odyssey. But the album also dwells on more earthly concerns. Lead single “JARÐARTRÁ/DUST TO DUST” is told from the perspective of a wounded mother earth, who calls to us with a steadily thumping bassline that’s as dark and warm as our planet’s molten core. “Come lie down in my blue embrace”, Eivør sings, reaching into her operatic register, as if beckoning us toward the light.

On ENN, Eivør moves heaven and earth.

Swiss industrial prog-death metal trailblazers Lethal Technology are thrilled to present the video for their fierce new track, “Forbidden Flesh,” from their standout album Mechanical Era, available now via Wormholedeath.

“Forbidden Flesh,” the opening track of Mechanical Era, thrusts you into a dark, apocalyptic, and icy sonic landscape. The technology that once served humanity is on the verge of rebellion, poised to overthrow its creators and dominate them instead.

This track showcases the band’s ambition to break free from conventions with their distinctive fusion of death, industrial, and progressive metal. Lethal Technology isn’t afraid to push boundaries, as evident in Sofiane Thoulon’s hauntingly melodic vocals layered over death metal blast beats.

Welcome to the world of Lethal Technology—where the future meets the ferocity of sound.

Lethal Technology is a genre-bending behemoth, drawing inspiration from a diverse arsenal that includes Devin Townsend, Strapping Young Lad, Fear Factory, Dying Fetus, Dream Theater, video game soundtracks, and even a sprinkle of 80’s giants like Genesis. This unique blend results in a sound that defies categorization, a monstrous fusion of technical prowess and raw aggression.

AUTARKH Announce New Lineup Ahead of European Dates

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 26, 2024
Posted in: News. Tagged: AUTARKH. Leave a comment

Autarkh are locked in a state of constant evolution. After the dissolution of Dodecahedron, in 2019, frontman Michel Nienhuis assembled a new band of innovators for his blackened, electro-shocked  vision of the future on Autarkh’s debut Form in Motion. Just last year, the contemporary metal band pushed their cybernetic view on the digital age to even greater extremes.

“It is even safe to say that the Autarkh that exists on Emergent is not the same Autarkh that existed on Form in Motion”, No Clean Singing wrote about their latest album, “…right when you’re able to put a pin in why you’re enjoying a particular segment of Emergent, Autarkh problem themselves off in a completely different direction with joyous abandon”.

The circularity that courses through Autarkh has even sparked two separate alter egos. Autarkh III re-imagines their cutting-edge contemporary metal as ambient drones, while Autarkh Collective is a fully improvised collaboration that features a revolving lineup around Nienhuis.

While their third album is already in its earliest test phases, before the band embarks on their first tour supporting Emergent, today, Autarkh are introducing two new members.

For the very first time, Autarkh will now feature a live drummer. Nienhuis’ old band mate Jasper Barendregt has earned a reputation as both a brutal metal drummer and a refined groove master during his time in Dodecahedron, Ulsect and Our Oceans. Adding him to the lineup will not only inject heart-pounding fervor to the band’s rhythm section but frees electronic wizard Tijnn Verbruggen to focus entirely on his dazzling synthetic textures and razor-sharp percussive layers.

“I find the synergy between these musicians inspiring, especially how it evolves new and existing cooperations”, Barendregt says. “Teaming up with Autarkh has been a logical and intuitive step for me. I appreciate the mutual trust, respect and admiration between these individuals, who also align with my hybrid live drumming experiments. It’s rewarding to work on new music as well as re-imagining work of Autarkh’s precursor, Dodecahedron, which I was part of from inception to disbandment”.

Unfortunately, former bassist Desmond Kuijk has left to focus on other priorities, but Autarkh have found a talented replacement. Max Blok is the bassist for the heavy rock band Dead Eyed Creek and live guitarist for Autarkh label mates and progressive metal scientists Alkaloid. He’s also worked as a session musician for Ruins of Beverast and Dark Fortress. His supercharged low-end will bring even more heft to the band’s industrial-sized riffs.

“It’s a pleasure to be working with people that are not afraid to try something different and keep re-inventing themselves in the process”, says Blok. “I’m grateful to be joining this group of very skilled musicians and composers”.

Autarkh will debut their new lineup live next year when they play a string of shows in The Netherlands and Belgium with Farer and Alkahest.

AUTARKH is a group of music adventurers dedicated to pushing the boundaries of their artistic development. The contemporary metal outfit was founded in Tilburg (NL) by vocalist/guitarist Michel Nienhuis and can be seen as a development of the artistic vision of his previous band DODECAHEDRON. In 2019, Nienhuis teamed up with producer Joris Bonis (DODECAHEDRON, ULSECT), guitarist/producer David Luiten (INFERUM), bassist Desmond Kuijk (DEAR MOTHER) and electronics wizard Tijnn Verbruggen, musicians with backgrounds ranging from metal to techno.

The debut album Form In Motion (Season Of Mist, 2021) feels like an evolution from the two albums Nienhuis released with Dodecahedron. Musically, because of the radical approach the band takes with their rhythm section: IDM-style beats, glitch effects and percussion are perfectly balanced with crushing riffs and vocals that range from tormented screams to exciting harmonies. Lyrically, because the album is more about a personal experience of human nature and
the nature of the universe.

Autarkh continues its approach of inner exploration on its sophomore full-length album Emergent. It delivers increased versatility and contrast, and sees the band expand towards more uplifting and consonant territories. On Emergent, composers Nienhuis’s and Luiten’s statements capture the same capriciousness and unease of Form In Motion, this time leaving a more open, diverse and radiant imprint.

Circularity has become a key component of how these musicians handle their artistic content. An alternative three- piece band called AUTARKH III was founded in 2021 wherein Luiten, Verbruggen and Nienhuis reimagine their work in a different musical context. AUTARKH III focuses on ambient and drone atmospheres, improvised sound collages and heavier down-tempo arrangements while experimenting with inverted storylines and rearranged AUTARKH themes. When the opportunity arose in 2023 to participate in a 100% improvised collaboration with Drone Assembly and Kypski during Best Kept Secret festival, another corner of the Autarkh universe was unlocked and ultimately led to the establishment of a free improv group with a varying line-up known as AUTARKH COLLECTIVE. The debut of this collective will be released in 2024.

Form In Motion explored the boundaries of sonic extremes; Autarkh III’s Roadburn Redux 2021 showed subtlety, introversion and contrast; and Emergent sheds a brighter light on the inner self and exposes it to the world with intensity and conviction. The group shows diversity and nuance while preserving their intense and razor-sharp edge. With performances at Roadburn festival (NL) in 2021 and 2022, Dutch television show Muziekstad and Hellfest (FR) in 2022, 4 releases in 4 years and numerous press features praising their artistic endeavors, the group shows their vivid imagination and serious work ethic – and they are just getting started.

Autarkh are currently working on their third studio album with a new lineup featuring Jasper Barendregt (ex-DODECAHEDRON) on drums and Max Blok (ALKALOID, DEAD EYED CREEK) on bass.

Line-up:
Michel Nienhuis: vocals & guitars
David Luiten: vocals & guitars
Tijnn Verbruggen: synths & beats
Jasper Barendregt: drums
Max Blok: bass
