THULCANDRA’s rise to power ignited when the band unleashed their debut album, Fallen Angel’s Dominion, upon metaldom in 2010. The group, fronted by founding member and visionary, Steffen Kummerer (also of Obscura fame), have since tightened their hibernal grip on blackened death metal. The desolate melodic emanations in follow-up studio records Under a Frozen Sun (2011), Ascension Lost (2015), and the chart-topping, 2021 album, A Dying Wish, dedicated to late bassist Chris Kratzer, solidified THULCANDRA as a superior force, expertly thrusting the magic and mystery of mid-’90s melodic black-death metal into the modern era.

Their latest output, Hail The Abyss, proves yet again why THULCANDRA are atop death metal’s malefic vedette. As always, THULCANDRA‘s about a vibe – there’s always a unique “feel” that’s distinctly old-school, but without the tired trappings of it. Hail The Abyss showcases the band’s affinity for dark, aggressive and mellifluous metal while the entire album – same like their live appearance – rips and terrorizes with the intensity of hell!

THULCANDRA is:
Steffen Kummerer – Guitars & Vocals
Mariano Delastik – Guitars
Carsten Schorn – Bass
Alessandro Delastik – Drums

ÄERA Announce New Album “Phantast”, Release First Single ‘Fleisch und Knochen’

German atmospheric black metal act ÄERA has announced the release of the band’s sophomore album, entitled “Phantast”, which has been slated for release on October 4 via Vendetta Records. With the track “Fleisch und Knochen”, the band has unleashed the first single today.

Listen to the track here:

Over a meticulous two-year span, ÄERA‘s dedicated trio – Milan Sikorski, Simon Wiedenhöft, and Sven Strefel – poured their collective creativity into shaping the sonic landscape of their latest opus. Inspired by Christian Morgenstern’s mesmerizing work “In Phantas Schloss”, the band’s upcoming full-length album “Phantast” promises to take listeners on an extraordinary journey across both inner and outer realms, distorts perspectives and thus gives insights into a world outside of society constraints. “Phantast” creates a space full of possibilities and fantasy, but always with reference to reality to show contrasts and grievances.

Opting for a deliberately rawer musical approach, ÄERA embraced a grittier sound aesthetic for this release. An arrangement was also chosen in which the listener can more easily assign the individual instruments to the respective band member. Returning to Markus Stock’s prestigious Klangschmiede E studio for production underscores the band’s commitment to capturing their essence in its most authentic form.

Tracklist:

  1. Kosmos (8:54)
  2. Empor (9:28)
  3. Schattenkreuz (14:56)
  4. Fleisch und Knochen (8:19)

Fusing influences from classic 90s black metal with contemporary post, ambient, and atmospheric black metal, ÄERA‘s music is characterized by drawn-out compositions that are emotional, dynamic, and energetically charged. The band’s name, rooted in an ancient German dialect where ÄER symbolizes ‘earth’, reflects the essence of their lyrical explorations drawn from the works of literary luminaries such as Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Christian Morgenstern. ÄERA‘s thematic pursuits encompass humankind’s detachment from nature, existential inquiries, cosmic fascinations, social and religious criticism, and natural romanticism.

Featuring robust yet intricate riffing, expansive melodies, mid-tempo drumming, atmospheric interludes, progressive elements, and rich lyrical narratives, ÄERA distinguishes itself as a force to be reckoned within the realm of black metal.

“Phantast” by ÄERA will be out on October 4 via Vendetta Records.

ÄERA are:
Simon Wiedenhöft | guitar (rhythm right, lead), samples
Milan Sikorski | vocals, bass, acoustic guitars
Sven Strefel | guitar (rhythm left, lead)
Farin Hahn | drums

Krilloan have released a lyric video for “Hammer Of Wrath”, third single taken from the new album “Return Of The Heralds” to be released on September 20th by Scarlet Records.

In the 40th millennium grim future, there is only war: Krilloan are no foreigners to “Warhammer 40.000” and in particular not to the Legions of the Adeptus Astartes, having previously covered both the Blood Angels and Dark Angels legions. In “Hammer Of Wrath” the mighty Imperial Fists are covered by a song that proudly shows its heavy metal backbone – with justice and might! For the Emperor!

Epic and fierce battle hymns about Conan the Barbarian, Elric of Melniboné, “Warhammer 40.000” and those never-ending days spent in a world beyond our own: this is the conceptual foundation of the Swedish band led by guitarist Klas Holmgren, with a clear focus on a well-crafted and always well-balanced songwriting as well.

One thing is for certain: you will never be bored listening to a Krilloan album!

KILLSORROW Stream New Album “Wasteland Chronicles”, Announce Line-Up Change

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 14, 2024
Posted in: News. Tagged: KILLSORROW. Leave a comment

KILLSORROW was created in 2008 in Krakow by guitarist Michał Sokół. The band’s roster changed multiple times before finally stabilizing in 2015. Each member of the band is an experienced musician who has played hundreds of concerts and supported world-class bands.

Music for new studio album titled “Wasteland Chronicles” was recorded at Heinrich House Studio (Azarath, Behemoth, Masachist) and Studio Centrum. All was mixed and mastered by Fredrik Nordström at Fredman Studio (In Flames, Arch Enemy, Sabaton, Dimmu Borgir, Septicflesh) in Goteborg. Cover artwork was done by duo Zbigniew Józefczyk and Michał “Xaay” Loranc (Evangelist, Kamelot, Konkhra).

On the new album the band presents a new musical face, they play mixture melody and aggressive of Trivium and In Flames with catchy Iron Maiden riffs and progression of Evergrey and Kamelot. All of the songs with themes referring to the Mad Max or Fallout series tell various loosely related stories.

November 3, 2023 band released full album on physical format as CD which could be ordered at their official website http://killsorrow.com/ and Via Nocturna webstore. Digital version of the album was released September 6, 2024 (here).

“We wanted to record songs that would be a good foundation for Piotr’s vocals, which is why the album has a slightly different character than the previous ones. It is more lyrical. You will find both fast and slow songs there, we mainly wanted to maintain the atmosphere of a post-apocalyptic wasteland, which we apparently succeeded in” – says Michał, the leader of the band.

The band is unfortunately parting ways with its vocalist and the two upcoming live shows are the last ones where you will be able to hear him.

“Piotr decided to leave the band because he is absorbed by his private matters. We are parting ways amicably and we keep our fingers crossed for him that everything will work out the way he wants. At the same time, in connection with this, a certain guest will appear at the upcoming concerts, but I do not want to reveal more about it, it is a surprise” – continues Michał.

PHOBOIAN Release First Single + Lyric Video ‘The Plague’ from Upcoming Debut Album

Phoboian is a melodic death metal orchestra from Turku, Finland. The band’s music incorporates classical female vocals into heavy nordic melancholy. Phoboian was established in 2017 during an after party to a metal gig, and since has gathered six musicians to its ranks: singers Inka Laitinen and Eeva Korhonen, drummer Kristo Rautavuori, bassist Jonathan Åkerman, and guitarists Olli Kuure and Otso Turunen. After a long silence Phoboian is ready to release “The Plague”, the first single from its upcoming album.

Listen to the single on music services (Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal etc.): https://push.fm/fl/phoboian-plague

“The Plague” tells about the extinction of mankind as a result of a deadly pandemic. It brings together medieval religious imagery and a modern scientific dystopia. Despite the macabre theme the song strives for beauty, and isn’t as much a prophecy as a warning. -Otso Turunen

“One of my favorite tracks from the upcoming album is definitely ‘The Plague,’ which harmonies and rhythms create an atmosphere that’s great to rock out to. Together with the guys and Eeva, we’ve crafted a song that truly represents who we are, conveying relevant themes as well. Its energy and guitar riffs showcase our band’s sound at its best. Working together has been inspiring, and I believe listeners will also experience that energy. ‘The Plague’ is a part of our journey and a story we want to share.” -Inka Laitinen

  • Composed by Otso Turunen
  • Lyrics by Otso Turunen
  • Arrangement by Otso Turunen & Phoboian
