THE COLD STARES Deliver Heavy-Hitting Blue Collar Anthem Addressing Today’s Political Climate on ‘Looking for a Fight’

Modern blues-rock trio The Cold Stares have released their highly anticipated seventh album “The Southern” via Mascot Records. Delving deep into their Southern roots for the first time on record, the album embodies a true reflection of their heritage. “Being Southern, for me, is more than an accent,” shares singer-guitarist Chris Tapp. “It’s about family and tradition.” Coinciding with the album release, the band has dropped a lyric video for their powerful new single, “Looking For A Fight,” a gritty anthem that channels the frustrations of the working class. The song taps into the current climate of societal unrest, where it seems every word spoken becomes a point of contention.

“This one sonically speaks to the lyrics of the song, so we knew we wanted something that really rocked, and to have a back section of the song that shifted and spoke to the lyrics,” says Tapp. “In an age where it seems everyone is offended by everything, this song is about speaking your mind and not being suppressed by the world around you. If you can’t win, you might as well be yourself. The back section of the song is directed at the politicians and greedy in our society that prey upon the working class.”

In “Looking For A Fight,” Tapp sings about the struggles of the everyday man, with lyrics that hit home for anyone feeling the pressures of today’s divided world. “Living ain’t easy when you’re trying to tow the line, this old world wants to leave you behind,” Tapp declares. Featuring raw in-studio footage of The Cold Stares, the lyric video for the song captures the intensity of the recording process and the genuine passion the band poured into this song.

Known for their explosive live shows and southern-bred authenticity, The Cold Stares continue to push the boundaries of blues-rock on “The Southern.” The album embodies themes of resilience, redemption, and heritage, all while retaining the band’s signature blend of fuzzed-out guitars, Zep-style riffs, and Delta blues nods. Formed in 2012 by Chris Tapp (guitar/vocals) and Brian Mullins (drums), the trio expanded their sonic scope by adding bassist Bryce Klueh in 2022. The group has earned critical acclaim from Classic Rock Magazine, No Depression, and American Songwriter while amassing a dedicated following through their unique sound and storytelling.

“Our version of the South is different,” says Tapp. “When Brian and I were young, we would sit in with these old guys at the local lodge, at the time they were still playing the old hits by Bad Company, Robin Trower, and AC/DC mixed in with country and southern rock – artists like the Allman Brothers Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd. When I heard Free’s ‘All Right Now’ I thought they were from Georgia!”

“The Southern” has already been hailed as one of the band’s most personal works to date, with tracks like “Coming Home” and “Mortality Blues” drawing from Tapp’s own life experiences, including his survival from cancer. The album’s southern influence also pays homage to the band’s Western Kentucky roots, embracing the cultural and musical legacy that continues to shape them.

The Cold Stares have just finished a UK tour and on September 8th, the band will head back to the U.S. to kick off an extensive fall tour, starting with a performance at the Lancaster Roots and Blues Festival in Pennsylvania on September 28th. The U.S. leg will take them across the country, including stops in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia, before culminating in a special performance aboard the Legends of Rock Cruise in February 2025. **MANY EYES ONLY

Many Eyes began in the winter of 2022 when Keith Buckley (Ex-Every Time I Die, The Damned Things) connected with brothers Nick (Producer/ Owner of Dexter’s Lab Recording) and Charlie Bellmore (Corpsegrinder/ Toxic Holocaust) through their mutual friend, Jamey Jasta, frontman for metal legends Hatebreed. The Light Age was written and recorded over a few weeks in both Buffalo, NY, and Milford, CT, where the members reside.Taking cues from the Grunge Rock and Hardcore of the 1990s that was so influential to them growing up, the members of Many Eyes skillfully blend chaos with melody.

Many Eyes’ live performances, including their tour with post-hardcore icons THURSDAY, have demonstrated their ability to deliver high-energy shows with precision and emotion. With Craig Vittorio now on guitar and Sean Vallie on bass, alongside Nick Bellmore’s powerful drumming and Keith Buckley’s commanding vocals, the band remains focused on pushing forward and exploring new creative horizons.

As they embark on the next phase of their journey, Many Eyes remains committed to their core ethos—creating music that resonates deeply with listeners, blending raw power with melodic depth, and continually evolving as artists. The future looks bright as they continue to chart their path forward.

Finnish progressive metal act Pressure Points will release two new singles this autumn. The first one, ‘The Chase’, saw the light of day today, accompanied by a stunning music video directed by Teppo Ristola. This release is a continuation to their critically-acclaimed third album, The Island, which was released in March 2023 through Art Gates Records.

LISTEN to The Chase: https://push.fm/fl/pp-chase

  • Composed and lyrics by Veli-Matti Kyllönen
  • Artwork made by Juha Tretjakov and Teppo Ristola

The second single Shapeless will be released on 18 December 2024. At the same time, the group is concentrating on writing new material for their fourth album and continuing to play shows. A festival in the Czech Republic has already been booked for next summer.

Veli-Matti Kyllönen, the main composer and lyricist of the song, shares his insight:

“Chase is a bit of a departure from Pressure Points’ usual sound, and not just because it’s shorter than our usual length. It’s the first piece of music I wrote after wrapping up our last album, and the band loved it right away. Given our shared love of melodic death metal and epic melodies, that wasn’t a big surprise. I hope you enjoy it!”

Pressure Points is a melodic metal act founded in Heinola, Finland, in the summer of 2004. Its music has been described as exceptional in the field of melodic and progressive metal, blending many different styles with a strong sense of melody combined with innovative and dynamic constructions.

These metallers have shared the stages with such international acts as Katatonia, Samael, Omnium Gatherum, Insomnium and Fleshgod Apocalypse.

Notable tours:

  • Fleshgod Apocalypse + Omnium Gatherum tour, Baltic leg, in 2022,
  • Winter’s Gate Finnish tour with Insomnium and Swallow the Sun in 2016,
  • Those Whom The Gods Detest with Nile in North Europe in 2011 and
  • Keep of Kalessin Finnish tour in 2010.

Line-up:
Juha Tretjakov – Vocals
Veli-Matti Kyllönen – Keyboards & backing vocals

STRANGER VISION Unveil First Single + Video ‘Strive’ from Upcoming Album

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 8, 2024
Posted in: News. Tagged: STRANGER VISION. Leave a comment

STRANGER VISION, the Italian prog power metal band, is thrilled to announce the release of Strive, the first single from their highly anticipated new album FAUST Act I: Prelude To Darkness, set to drop on November 8th, 2024. Inspired by the timeless story of Faust, the album delves into the profound themes of human ambition, the pursuit of knowledge, and the eternal struggle between good and evil.

Strive is a powerful opening to this conceptual journey, capturing the intense dialogue between God and Mephistopheles about the human condition and the relentless quest for understanding that defines Faust’s character. With its intricate melodies and evocative lyrics, Strive sets the tone for an album that promises to explore the depths of human emotion and existential conflict.

The band shares: “Faust has always fascinated us as a work of literature. It’s a profound reflection on the duality of human nature, and with this album, we wanted to bring that story to life through our music. Strive is a key moment in the album, where the battle for Faust’s soul begins, and it reflects the struggle that is central to his journey. This song is particularly special because it encapsulates the essence of what we want to convey with Faust. The push and pull between light and darkness, the choices we make, and the consequences they bring — these are themes that resonate deeply with us, and we believe our listeners will feel that as well.”
