SURTALOG Release Brand New Song + Lyric Video ‘IV. Akt – Weltenbrand’

Flood, war, earthquake, fire, a long winter – this is not yesterday’s news, but a legend from the medieval Völuspá: Ragnarök, the end of the world in Norse mythology. An oft-sung theme in various metal genres – and yet the German band SURTALOG, founded in 2016, manages to elicit some frighteningly topical aspects from the ancient legend on their debut “Ragnarök – Schicksal der Götter, Tod der Menschen und Ende der Welten“ (Ragnarök – Fate of Gods, Death of Men and End of Worlds), both musically and lyrically.

Music is based of melodic, storming black metal in the style of WINDIR or EMPEROR, the band builds complex song structures that are sometimes reminiscent of DREAM THEATER or OPETH in their progressiveness. Fragile passages carried by acoustic guitars or epic choral interludes have also found their place on “Ragnarök” and thus contribute to reflecting the multifaceted nature of the subject matter. This makes “Ragnarök” not only an entertaining and multi-layered metal album. But after 75 minutes of playing time, the last fragile acoustic sounds leave listeners pensive, doubtful… but cautiously optimistic.

It´s a concept album about the end of the world in Norse Mythology. Of its ten songs, the prologue and the five acts are black metal songs, incorporating progressive and other influences. The other four songs are non-metal with acoustic guitars, choirs, female and spoken vocals, loosening up the album.

Music for album was recorded, mixed and mastered from 2022 to 2023 at Nightside Audio (Troll, Eis, Minas Morgul) by Florian Dammasch. Band logo and album cover artwork was done by Timon Kokott (Pantokrator, Horn (DE), Illdisposed)

Debut album “Ragnarök – Schicksal der Götter, Tod der Menschen und Ende der Welten” (eng. “Ragnarök – Fate of Gods, Death of Men and End of Worlds”) will out August 28, 2024. Pre-order is available at Bandcamp.

DOG EAT DOG Release Single for Title Track of Long Lost Studio Album “Walk With Me”

Posted by metalshockfinland on August 10, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: DOG EAT DOG. Leave a comment

As a foretaste of the re-release of the long-lost DOG EAT DOG studio album “Walk With Me” (out 20 September / Metalville Records), the title track will be available from today on all known streaming providers.

With the track “Walk With Me”, the band dives into darker water both lyrically and musically. John originally wrote the words over the Timberland beat for “Cry Me A River” but the band puts its unique spin on this title track. Brandon Finley’s excellent percussion adds a new dimension to the band’s groove. Dog Eat Dog drags the listener into the dark waters of alienation and loneliness while somehow inviting them to join them on the journey with a massive chorus led by a catchy saxophone.

Dog Eat Dog’s album “Walk With Me”, released by Nuclear Blast in 2006, is an impressive testament to the band’s creative power and musical versatility. Although it was only available for a short time, it has left a lasting impression and is one of the hidden gems of rock music.

Dog Eat Dog, known for their innovative blend of rock, punk and funk, experienced a period of intense creativity in the early 2000s. After several successful albums and tours, the band decided to create an album that would reflect their musical development and experiences of the last few years. Work began on “Walk With Me” and the band members spent countless hours in the studio perfecting their musical ideas.

In 2003 they found a new management company, Vibra, and came into contact with Claus Grabke. They worked with him on songs such as “M.I.L.F.”, “Hell Yeah”, “Cannonball” and “Undivided” for their new album. Marta Jandová from Die Happy sings guest vocals on the latter.

The album was recorded with a lot of passion and dedication. Each song on “Walk With Me” tells its own story and reflects the band’s personal and collective experiences. The powerful rhythms, catchy melodies and profound lyrics show Dog Eat Dog at the peak of their creativity.

“Walk With Me” is packed with energetic tracks that perfectly showcase the band’s unique blend of rock, punk and funk. Songs like “Undivided” and “Walk With Me” are bursting with dynamics and showcase the band’s musical diversity. Particularly noteworthy are the powerful guitar riffs and the lead singer’s distinctive voice, which give each song a special touch.
The production of the album is first class, with a clear and dynamic sound that perfectly captures the energy and passion of the band. The careful mixing and well thought-out song structure make “Walk With Me” a pleasure to listen to, both at high volume and in quiet moments.

Despite the high quality of the album, “Walk With Me” was only available for a short time. This was due to internal problems at Nuclear Blast and unexpected legal complications, which meant that the album had to be withdrawn from the market after a short time. These unfortunate circumstances meant that many fans were unable to purchase the album, making it a coveted collector’s item.

“Walk With Me” is an outstanding album that captures the creative essence of Dog Eat Dog at their best. The combination of catchy melodies, powerful rhythms and a fascinating origin story makes it an essential part of any music collection. Now fans finally have the chance to buy this masterpiece again as a CD digipack and Ltd. edition orange vinyl – and it’s also available digitally for the first time.

The line-up of the band on “Walk With Me” was John Connor (vocals), Dave Neabore (bass, vocals, guitar), Brandon Finley (drums) and Sean Kilkenny (guitar, vocals). The album was recorded at Claus Grabke Studios, Gütersloh, Germany and produced by Claus Grabke and Dog Eat Dog.

LIVLØS Unleash Second Single And Video ‘Endless Majesty’ from Upcoming Album

The triumphant ascendance of Danish death metal titans LIVLØS continues with the band’s epic third full length, the concept album ‘The Crescent King’ which is set for release on October 4th 2024. The album’s first single ‘Usurpers’ was released back in June alongside a captivating animated music video and today, LIVLØS shares the second single ‘Endless Majesty’ accompanied by a video shot at the band’s epic show at Copenhell in 2023.

Stream the single HERE

Watch the video for ‘Endless Majesty’ here:

With the new record, LIVLØS continues to deliver its punishing style of heavy grooves, melancholic melodies and progressive musicianship, while unfolding a cosmological fantasy-inspired narrative of ‘The Crescent King’ – a vivid symbol of humanity, its psyche and cyclus in the universe. The band comments on the new song ‘Endless Majesty:

“As the album’s closing track, “Endless Majesty” delivers riffs that will trample you. This brutal silver lining and melodic appeal had its virgin voyage at last year’s Copenhell festival. Please dive into one of our absolute favorites – Endless Majesty!”

‘The Crescent King’ will be released on vinyl, CD and digital formats, and the vinyl will be available in three editions – 300 black copies, 100 transparent petrol copies and 100 marble yellow copies. Physical pre-orders are now available HERE and digital formats can be pre-saved and pre-ordered HERE.

Also, in the coming months, LIVLØS has a run of Danish festivals with more shows to be announced in the near future.

LIVLØS LIVE 2024
24-25.08.24 – Ribe MetalFestival (DK)
06.-07.09.24 – Raise Your Horns, Rønne (DK)
12-14.09.24 – Copenhagen Metal Fest (DK)
25-26.10.24 – Odense Metal Fest (DK)
01-02.11.24 – Aalborg Metal Festival (DK)

Since the band’s inception in 2014, LIVLØS has proven themselves to be an ingenious force on the international death metal scene. Since the release of their deeply personal debut album “Into Beyond” (2018), which depicted a band in a time of heavy personal struggle, they have continued to grow – which is evident in both songwriting and technical prowess. Their second album “And Then There Were None” (2021), released by Napalm Records, immediately sounded darker and more ambitious, which resonated with fans and critics alike.

Following the second album’s release, LIVLØS toured extensively, including a big sold out Copenhagen headliner, a European tour with Konvent and Implore, and a national headliner tour alongside appearances at Inferno Festival, Tallinn Music Week and not least the band’s triumphant live peak in front of 14.000 people at Copenhell in 2023.

Now, LIVLØS can finally unveil their third full length album, the conceptual cosmo-narrative ‘The Crescent King’. While bearing LIVLØS’ trademarks of heavy, death metallic grooves, melancholic, grandiose melodies and progressive musicianship, the music on ‘The Crescent King’ compliments the ambitious concept as far as the prog elements now standing strong alongside traits of experimental dissonance to balance the band’s ear for majestic melodies.

As on the prior releases, on our very race, homo sapiens, is also the focus of LIVLØS’ scrutiny on ‘The Crescent King’. This time, the band wished to conceive a fictional, conceptual piece throwing its gaze on the more general dispositions of the human condition, its psyche and place in the cosmic cyclus of the universe.

Thus, ‘The Crescent King’ is a symbol of humankind in all its aspects, good and evil and in between. It is the tale of the king undertaking a journey through space and time, in which he discovers the secrets of himself and humankind. But it is also a story on how a good soul and its benevolent intentions can corrupt in the face of power, delusion and despair.

‘The Crescent King’ is produced by Jacob Bredahl (Lifesick, Eyes), mastered by Brad Boatright (Obituary, Suicide Silence, Gatecreeper, Nails) and carries artwork by Eliran Kantor (Testament, Bloodbath, Kreator, Hate Eternal). The album will be released on LP/CD/Digital on October 4th 2024 via Noctum Productions and will be followed by extensive touring throughout Scandinavia and Europe.

Tracklist reads as follows:

  1. Solstice
  2. Orbit Weaver
  3. The Crescent King
  4. Maelstrom
  5. Usurpers
  6. Scourge of the Stars
